Well, hi.

Happy Monday morning to you.

We had kind of a crazy week last week, sandwiched between two busy weekends.

So, I'm a little behind on life in general, which means I haven't got time to say much today.

Happily, this week should be much calmer, and after a wedding I'm playing this coming weekend, my life is looking delightfully unscheduled for the rest of the summer.

Which is very good news for the productivity items on my bucket list.

Like painting Joshua's room and bed.

(He told me the other day that he was feeling a little unhopeful about us getting to it this summer. ย  But I reminded him that at this point last summer, I hadn't painted a thing and still managed to paint my kitchen cabinets AND redo Lisey's bedroom. ย  So it can totally still happen. ย  ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

For some reason it seems like the first part of my summer is always a little nuts, and then my schedule slows down.

So, get ready! ย  Productive Kristen is about to kick into gear.

  1. I like your bucket list.I always like the idea of eating outside but we can't do it for now,we've been getting a lot of rain here and the mosquitoes are everywhere and the hammock looks so cool!

  2. Summers can be busy with all the weddings alone! We just went to one this weekend and need the week to recover. Although we love weddings it's sometimes a little painful to my frugalness seeing how much money is being spent on them these days. Some places say the average is now an all-time high of $30,000! Makes me want to be frugal even more. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. It doesn't surpise me that the first part of summer is busier. That's when things deferred from the school year happen: playing with friends instead of studying, early summer vacations/weddings/other events, and so on.

    1. Yes. It seems to take me until mid-summer to really buckle down and knock some things off of my to-do list!

  4. What an awesome picture that is! I bet you'll show him and get that room painted! We've been having a busy summer getting to know the new city we just moved to. Yesterday it was bagels and the park, with Mr. FP hauling the tots in the bike trailer, then in the afternoon, a little "soccer lesson" for the toddlers. (They had to kick the ball so that it hit his feet, and then he would pretend to be any animal they requested.)

  5. Is there an instruction book for getting into and out of a hammock without risking life and limb?? If there is, I need it!
If not you need to write one Kristen - you could save lives, limbs and make money!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. You said you are playing a wedding. Are you musician? I never read you mention that before. What is your instrument? As a fellow musician, I am curious.

      1. Oboe, saxophone... almost all of the band instruments. I made the non-frugal mistake of getting a degree in music. I should have realized that I didn't like children enough to spend all day teaching them. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love my own kids. But other people's kids, not so much.

        1. I was headed in the music degree direction until wrist/hand issues derailed me.

I did end up teaching privately for almost 20 years, though, and I still do teach all four of my own kids. I liked teaching individual lessons, but I don't think I'd have liked teaching in a group setting. It's a lot easier to get children to behave when you're with them one-on-one, you know? Even difficult children tend to behave when they are by themselves with a teacher.

  7. Is there anything Joshua can do proactively to assist in the painting of his room? Perhaps he has posters hung up or a collection of random things under his bed that could use some cleaning? If there is any minor patchwork to be done, I bet he could handle a little bit of spackle and sanding. It's also never too early to start taping off any edges that you don't want to get paint on and would be a perfect job to delegate.

    1. Oh yeah, he's going to help with the whole process. But I need to set aside time to work on it with him, because he's never done anything like this before.

  8. The beginning of my summer is always hectic - at least until VBS is over (which is this week for me). Hopefully things will slow down for all of us before the school year starts. Love the pic in the hammock!
