Mr. FG and I took the kids to pick out pumpkins at a produce stand this week.
And they’re all carved now.
For quite a few years, we’ve been using the tools that come in those pumpkin carving kits, and I tell you, if you haven’t tried those yet, you really should! The knives looks super flimsy, I know, but they work so well, (way better than paring knives, that’s for sure!) and they don’t break all that easily either.
You can buy the kits all over now…Ours from Target and Aldi, and I know other grocery stores carry them too.
(Also: you can probably pick up a kit for super cheap in a few days once everything goes on clearance after Halloween. That’s how we got several of our kits.)
I’m only going to show the girls’ pumpkins to you because Joshua is probably going to share his on his own blog and I don’t want to steal his thunder. 😉

For the past couple of years at Halloween, you've had a young couple over from church to help the kids carve pumpkins. Did you invite them over again? (I can't remember who they were..but I loved seeing them interact with the kiddos!).
I also love the shapes chosen this year. But I'm a tad biased toward owls :D They're my fav animal!

We love the little tools from the kits. We draw our own designs in pen and use the tools from the kits-that we got from yard sales. Sadly we had to say goodbye to a little saw last night as one of the little kids bumped into my 11yo and it snapped :(

Go find one on clearance and save it for next year! I always see them after Halloween at places like Target.

Those tools do last, we've been using our set for about 20 years now (we started when my eldest was born). Sometimes the thin knives break, but I think in all this time we've only bought 2 full sets (mostly so that everyone can work on their pumpkins at the same time, no waiting). We have 3 books of patterns, but we don't buy the books anymore because often you can print the designs off the internet.
