One of my favorite things to buy at Target

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.

I'm not a super regular Target shopper, mainly because it's a little bit out of my way, and because I like shopping at my handy-dandy little Aldi store for grocery items.

But Aldi doesn't carry much in the way of tea, and regular grocery store tea prices are often in the $3.50-$4.00 range unless I hit a sale.

Target, though?   It's got all of our favorite teas for less than $2.50/box.

So, whenever I do happen to pop into Target, I always buy a bunch of boxes to last us until our next Target run.

When I picked up this bent box of chai, my initial reaction was to select another instead.

But then I remembered that most shoppers would do the same thing, so I brought the bent box home with me.   I'd hate for it to sit on the shelf unsold, and heaven knows the tea bags inside are just fine even if the box is a little smushed.

P.S. This isn't sponsored by Target in any way, shape, or form. I just like buying tea at Target!

P.P.S. Joshua's got two more California pictures up.

  1. If you have a local Asian or Indian* grocery store, they have great prices and an insane selection of tea.

*Yes, I know India is in Asia but it's usually referred to as the Indian subcontinent and Asian groceries tend to be East and Southeast Asian centered.

    1. Hmm, I'll have to check into that. I've also heard that sometimes ethnic markets have really good prices on produce as well.

      1. We go to Asian market once a month (an hour drive from our house) and they have fresher produce than grocery stores. They have fresh fish, shrimps and live crabs too!

      2. They are. Sometimes you may need a little bit of help finding things though since there might not be English on everything. It can be a fun and educational "field trip" for the kids too.

  2. I love both tea and Target! I especially love their decaf chia tea. A little almond milk and it tastes like a yummy latte!

  3. That Sweet Coconut Thai sounds good! I don't get by Target very often, I'll have to look at their tea next time I go. I usually get my tea at Meijer, they have pretty good prices.

When you showed the bent box I thought you were going to say that you got a discount on it. 🙂

  4. We finally got an Aldi in Richmond this year, and I can't wait to try it! It is a little out of my way, but now that school is out I have the time to try it.

  5. I started buying my tea in bulk through Amazon this year. They have really good prices and it gets delivered straight to my house. Since I have Amazon Prime and pretty limited shopping in my town this works really well for me.

  6. Do you ever ask for a discount on bent boxes or cans? I very occasionally do this with clothing (unfinished seams that I can repair myself at home), but I'm too shy to do it with food. Just curious whether you guys think this is a good use of your time/frugality.

    1. I've not tried that at Target for food. I do successfully ask for a discount on some things though...I did it when I bought a dented clock at Kohl's, for example.

Success rate will vary by store. Aldi, for example, doesn't ever mark anything down, so you just know it has to be a principled purchased when you pick up a dented box.

        1. Ooh, really? Totally trying that next time! Although 10% off of their tea isn't much because the tea is so cheap already.

  7. We buy tea in bulk from Amazon usually. We all love PG Tips, which is a super duper strong British tea, but buying little boxes here is crazy expensive. Getting it on Amazon makes it less so!

  8. Did you manage to get out of Target with only buying the tea?? It's usually a very, um, non-frugal experience for us.

    1. I did stick to my list, but I had a few other things to buy too. Also: I had a Target gift card, so no money out of pocket. Yay!

  9. I discovered the "tea secret" some time ago. The other thing I find very economical there is toiletries like sunscreen, shampoo, and feminine hygiene products.

  10. You should try rooibos tea. It is very healthy and tastes great. You can drink it as you would normally drink your tea (milk and sugar) or you can put in a bit of honey and lemon. It is even safe for babies to drink if you give it to them with no milk or sugar. It doesn't damage their teeth and contains no caffeine. It is naturally a little sweet.
