Food Waste Friday-1.2

It's the first one of the year!
This picture includes two weeks' worth of waste, as I didn't ever get around to doing a food waste post last week, what with the holidays and all.
So, I have three things here...starting from the bottom, there's some old french toast egg mixture. I saved it with every intention of making more French Toast, but that never happened.
In the middle is one lonely meatball. There were quite a few more than that leftover, and we ate all but this one.
And finally on the top there is a bit of leftover tomato/mayonnaise sauce that I used on some beef sandwiches I made a while ago. I just couldn't really think of any other use for it, and so it sat in the fridge until it was too dry to use.
That's really not too bad for two weeks, especially when you consider how much food I used to waste in two weeks' time! Now that the holidays are over and I'm back on a more normal cooking/shopping routine, I hope to have some more zero waste weeks.
If you kept track of your food waste and blogged about it, link us up below. 🙂

Hi Kristen,
I too have been on a campaign to reduce my food waste to nothing, but lost track of some leftovers over the holidays. So, 1/2 of an avocado ($.80), two servings of cabbage soup (maybe .60) and most of a bag of spinach (1.69 or so) went into the compost at the end of December.
It seems that over time I am getting better at this, and I probably will never get to zero, but I'd like to get to the point where I just lose maybe 2 servings of soup in the month and reevaluate.
Happy New Year!
This is OT- but I love those containers you are using! I just got some for Christmas and I am so happy I'm not storing my leftovers in plastic any more! 🙂
Good job, Steve! Just so you know, I thought I'd never get to zero either, but amazingly enough, it's happened quite a bit lately.
Mrs. Money, I heart those containers so much too. I actually was going to do a post about them. I think they help to reduce waste because they're clear...so you can see what's inside of them.
I keep track of mine since I first found your blog, such a great idea! I post mine every Monday 🙂
Di! You should link to your post! Every Friday when I do my post, you can enter your name and the url of your Monday post into the Mister Linky box. This way people can go directly to your food waste photo.
I like the food waste post idea....I might have to do that, but I am afraid of how big my pile will be initially. ARGH!
The french toast dip can be used to make custard, quiche, ice cream,... Anything that uses milk + egg. I wonder if it could be frozen?
