I have some new jewelry!

And it came from Novica, a National Geographic company that sells handmade jewelry, paintings, women's clothes, men's scarves and other men's accessories straight from the artists all over the world. This cuts out some of the middle men, allowing artists to earn more money even while offering their items at lower prices than you'd find in a traditional store. It's a partnership that's beneficial for the artists and the consumers, and I love that Novica helps to support unique handmade art.
Novica also runs a micro-loan program where people like you and me can loan money to artists (who pay 0% interest on the loan). And when you're paid back, you get a 15% bonus on the amount you loaned if you spend it at Novica.
Novica sent me a gift certificate so that I could try out some of their products, and I headed straight for the jewelry, where I agonized over what to buy. There are so many gorgeous items available, it's awfully hard to choose.
I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to jewelry (I love simple lines), and the two items I finally settled on reflect that....I ordered this bracelet:
And these earrings.
They came straight from Novica's office in Thailand, packaged neatly in these gift boxes which are made from sustainably harvested bark in Thailand.
The products you can buy through Novica aren't going to be as inexpensive as what you could pay by shopping discount retailers, but on the other hand, the jewelry I have is well-made (I don't think my silver earrings will turn copper like the ones from Claire's) and by buying it, I'm supporting a small business instead of a massive corporation.
Ten to fifteen years ago, I probably wouldn't be as jazzed about this kind of jewelry, but I've gotten to a point where I'd rather spend a little more to own a few quality products instead of owning a bunch of not-so-well-made products that are less expensive.
Less is more, baby!
And if the well-made products support a good cause, that sweetens the deal all the more.
If you need to buy a gift for someone (especially if that someone values handmade items and loves to support artists), I think Novica would be a great resource. I'm quite inclined to do some Christmas shopping there for Lisey...she's got sensitive ears, and there are so many little earrings with sterling silver posts which would be perfect for her (she'd love these butterfly earrings).
Now, when Novica contacted me about their store, they offered to give me a $150 certificate to spend for myself.
But, since I wanted you to be able to try Novica out, I opted to split the $150 into two certificates...$75 for me and $75 for one of you!
So, I've got a $75 Novica code to give away to one of you, dear readers. All you've got to do is leave me a comment telling me what you'd like to buy from Novica (jewelry, a vase, a painting? Go check out all they've got to offer!).
I'll randomly choose a winner on Monday morning, August 15th, so don't delay...enter now!
disclosure: Novica gave me a $75 certificate to spend but I was not otherwise compensated in any way, shape, or form. All opinions are my own.
P.S.Novica also wanted me to tell you that they have a new home party division called Novica Live. Go check it out if you'd like to find a party or a consultant!

I would love to have one of the bracelets.
wow! they have some beautiful jewelery i would love to have!
I love these blue topaz studs:
http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=182113
Wow! Beautiful items, wonderful idea. I would buy gifts for my sisters. My youngest sister is recently engaged and there is a beautiful owl ring with "wise amethyst eyes" that she would love. My middle sister is a recent art school graduate and is about to move into a new apartment. She loves buffalo! There are pages of art and jewelry featuring buffalo, so I'm sure there is something perfect for her new place there. Thank you for sharing this company!
Thanks for the heads up on this. I think this will be great for jewelry for Christmas presents. My preteen daughter and her friends are at the perfect stage to wean off of Claire's and both are interested in helping those less fortunate. We'll probably talk about doing a microloan as a family. This is perfect!
They have some really pretty jewelry! I'm sure that's what I would go with! I'm off to browse some more! 🙂
your bracelet is stunning. i think i would head to the jewelry section as well.
Of course I went straight to the sale items on the website - even when I'm given a gift certificate I try to buy things on sale. More for my gift dollar 🙂
I don't wear much jewelry, but I would especially love to have some that can give back. I am also a fan of the organization Beads for Life, which sells beautiful handmade beaded jewelry that is made by women in Africa as a means of providing for their families. Beads for Life also cuts out the middleman and the money goes directly to to the creators of the jewelry. I would love to give back by buying either jewelry or other trinkets that would benefit others.
The earrings, definitely. This is not something I would ever buy for myself, but I really do like them. Beautiful!
I have been looking to buy a quality tea set, (cause we are trying to be frugal and healthy, by making own teas from herbs from garden) and having it made by hand would be even better. The one they have on their site, looks fabulous!
I love your new jewelry and Novica sounds like a wonderful company. I think I would buy some of the gorgeous ceramics that they have on their site. I specifically like the bowls with lids from Thailand.
They have so many items, I'm not sure how I would choose! The elephant teapots are pretty cute, though.
I LOVE the Jade Cross Necklace "Between Nations Cross"! It is beautiful! My sisters & Mother and I trade jewelry between each other twice a year and I know it would become one of our favorites in circulation! It has so many different colors that it could be worn all the time. Thank you for all your great posts!
100% Alpaca wool cardigan, 'Red Rose Bouquet'
I'm torn between one of the long beautiful skirts (I am pregnant with our second child and have been tasked to find clothing for a maternity shoot) and one of those amazing jewelry boxes. Even if I don't win I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a skirt and putting one of the jewelry boxes on my Christmas list! 🙂
Oh, I'm an earring girl! I'd be all over the jewelry! What a neat company and a neat giveaway.
I'd love to buy some of those small little earrings....it is hard to find nice small ones! How nice of you to split the gift certificate!
I went and searched for elephant, because I love elephant related stuff, and oh my goodness, this is where hubby will be buying my Christmas present 😀
I want the 'Elephant Stack' necklace and the 'Jumbo Love' one especially 🙂
They have some great jewelry, but I also saw a teapot I love.
Beautiful jewelry! I love the Infinite Lanna silver band ring, gorgeous
I would definitely go for the jewelry...it is all so beautiful. I love the bracelet and earrings that you picked.
Beautiful things and beautiful way to help others. Love the jewelry also.
KRISTEN!! I kid you not - Brian gave me those EXACT SAME earrings for my birthday, along with this necklace: http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/heart-shaped/sterling-silver-pendant-necklace-living-love/181439/ -- We ADORE Novica, for all of the reasons that you mentioned, as well as because the items are all so unique. I have a couple of tapestries hanging in our living room from Novica, too 🙂
If I have to pick something new (and I would LOVE this gift certificate), I would choose anything from the Gujarti tapestry page: http://wall-hangings.novica.com/gujarati-wall-hangings-india/
I love fair trade items, and I try to purchase them whenever possible. I think that fair trade, not free trade, is what is best for the American economy, foreign economies, local economies, and what God wants from all of us. I love supporting companies like Novica, Ten Thousand Villages, etc.
I really liked the skirts and sarongs, especially the one titled "Silk and cotton sarong, 'Summer Song'". I'm also a sucker for garnet pendants. 🙂
I fell in love with this elephant necklace:
http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/pendant/favorites/sterling-silver-pendant-necklace-elephant-journeys/181817/
I have two daughters that are like my shadows and this necklace reminds me of my two girls always following along behind. Ahh..heart!!!
I'd probably look into a nice shawl, I've been wanting to get some for wearing with sleeveless dresses instead of sweaters and to accessorize. What beautiful products they have!
Definitely jewelry! I'm not a huge wearer of jewelry, but I do love quality and simplicity.
Wow- absolutely gorgeous everything! But I am really in love with the Sterling silver link bracelet, 'Silver Sea'. That's what I would pick...but I am going to keep looking. I love the concept. I think I know where I am purchasing some Christmas presents!!
Wow! Definitely some earrings and some for a friend too. What a sweetie to share your gift!! Thanks!
I know my 16 year old daughter would be intrigued by the soda pop top bags. Maybe a small bag for Christmas would be nice for her.
I like the jewelry (especially earrings) as well, but there are some lovely shawls, too.
I love the elephant journey necklace! They have so many gorgeous items, though.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
I've been looking for some new and special drinking glasses for quite a while. There are so many beautiful hand-blown sets on here!!
Beautiful items! I would really have to give it some thought to decide between the Murano vases or the silver jewelry.
Drool. I'd pick one of those gorgeous shawls for winter here in cold Chicago.
Just the kind of jewelry I love - simple lines. And supporting local artisans. Yea! I try, when I can, to buy when I know that someone smaller benefits - even when it costs more. And for most of the people for whom I buy, it matters to them too. And I let them know from where it came.
Yea you for buying yourself something!
Jewelry. My one year old has been pretty hard on my necklaces!
I would buy one of the batik robes. I can feel very exotic after a relaxing bubble bath.
I love both your earrings and the bracelet! I really like silver and simple and classy. The jewelry section is where I would shop.
Hmm, I haven't checked out the website yet, but I do want you to know that you look fabulous today! So happy.
If I were to spend some money there, it would either to get a late graduation gift for my sister, (I counted her gift that I went to Cali from Texas to see her graduate) or save something as a Christmas gift for my mother. I don't really wear jewelery but I have some fabulous women in my life who do.
=D Have a great day!
I think my sister-in-law would love some of the jewelry for her birthday next month. So many beautiful things to choose from on their site!
I fell in love with the wooden abstract sculptures on their site, really beautiful!
I would also love some jewelry. Most of mine has turned that green/brown funky color and I'd like to get some new things for fall. Thanks so much!
They do have some beautiful jewelry, I am also loving the iron wall art. Thanks for alerting me to their website!
I am very taken by this artisian, http://www.novica.com/artistdetail/index.cfm?faid=3915 Her name is Sasithon Saisuk, she is from Thailand. I particularly like her pieces that made from coconut shells. Her handbags are too cool!
Thanks for sharing FG!
Also check out the handbag category, there are bags made from pop tabs!!!
I would love to try some of their jewelry, although there are musical members of my family that would love those drums.
I would buy jewelry. Probably earrings. Thanks for the giveaway!
I'd probably go for a serving tray; I've been wanting one for taking dinner stuff out to the patio. There are several pretty ones. The mahogany and bamboo one is nice.
I would totally buy the cotton wrap around skirt! You can wear it in the summer AND fall...gotta love multi-tasking clothes 🙂
Oh there is a gorgeous topaz ring from Thiland that I would love!
Whoops, *Thailand!
I would love their simple silver rings.
I love all the beautiful glassware, but the jewelry is gorgeous too. Thanks for sharing, I think this is really a great place to know about!
So many things - our dear friends are getting married and the question is which set of blue glasses to get them!
Wow! I love the earrings you chose! I think that I would go for the jewelry also.
I would order jewelry. Of all their earrings, I liked the ones you chose the best. They would go with anything, I think. The art was interesting to look at. The purses were nice as well. The definitely have a big selection of things! Oh - and I didn't think the shipping was bad at all.
I love websites like that that help out in a non-traditional way.
If I won I would probably buy something for my home. I am trying to redecorate to add some oomph to my life.
Thank you! I love your blog!
I love the button-style earrings for my niece's 10th birthday present. She gets her ears pierced for her birthday!
Oh I could definitely use some new earrings. I like the simple designs, quite like yours. I might even go with the same ones! They're just great.
I would def buy some jewelry, the bracelet is beautiful!
I would love to get some "dangly" earrrings for my daughter or a goft for my boss for the holidays as she is so hard to shop for and there are some really beautiful vases that she would love. Thanks for the opportunity!
I gravitated towards the jewelry and saw some beautiful things that my daughter-in-law might like. She's an artist and really appreciates hand made things. She might be getting a bracelet for Christmas.
Kid in a candy store--I would get jewelry! Or wine glasses! Or a handbag! And oh, they have a nice selection of art glass. I love art glass items.
Nice! I like the jewelry - I think my SIL would really enjoy some.
I love that jewelry! I thought I would surely choose some jewelry until I went on the site and loved so much of the other things they have! (I actually have some cheap-o earrings similar to the ones you got, and I can tell the difference in quality just with the photo.)
I love the amethyst stuff...good prices, too.
Oooh! With my job not allowing jewelry, and the gaudy stuff I find at stores, I've kinda given up on jewelry lately. But this stuff is beautiful! I foresee some Christmas shopping happening here. One thing I'd love to get here is the blue topax drop earrings(http://jewelry.novica.com/earrings/drop-earring/blue-topaz-drop-earrings-sublime/180423/); I love the simple lines and how it would add a touch of femininity and elegance to just about anything.
I think I'd buy a bamboo flute!
I have really sensitive ears too... but so much so.. that I can't even wear sterling silver jewelry. I have to have solid gold (no gold plating, no vermeil..etc). Makes it a pain to order jewelry online. Usually I can just hold it for a few minutes and I'll know if it'll be painful later!
So I browsed the site and was really very happy to come across this: http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=150935
I LOVE the colors, the look if it... everything. And think it would be beautiful in my dining room or kitchen 🙂
I would love the Celadon ceramic Bunnies, eating carrots - one for me and one for my sister, since we both collect rabbits.
I'd select a new handbag. Mine is worn out and I haven't yet found one I like at a price I'd like to pay.
Ooh, I'm sad that I didn't discover this website before my husband's birthday last night! I bought him a wooden chess set and would have loved to buy one from a place like this.
If I won I'd probably look around at jewelry for myself or musical instruments for my husband!
I'd definitely go for some of their recycled/reclaimed products, probably glassware. Great stuff!!
I love the sterling silver band ring that says "Hope." What a generous give-away!
I really like the sterling silver jewelry! I saw a couple of beautiful bracelets and some necklaces that I would love. I would have such a hard time picking!!
Oh, I could spend some serious time on that site -- and I would before I spent my imaginary $75 🙂 But this definitely speaks to me:
http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/modern-and-abstract/sterling-silver/sterling-silver-pendant-necklace-bubble-moon/172448/
I would buy the Leather handbag, 'Night Flowers' by Arturo Martinez in Peru. So beautiful!!!! Way nicer that what you can get in a mall.
I am in desperate need of home decor items. We've been repainting rooms and purging old stuff but I have nothing new and beautiful to put in the new rooms. And I LOVE fair trade and the artists getting more money directly in their pockets. Great giveaway, thanks Kristen!
Wow, thanks for sharing the website and your gift certificate! I could spend all day looking at all the wonderful items. I am not a huge fan of jewelry but I am definitely a hand bag type of gal. Plus I have been drawn to the glassware and sculptures. Everything is beautiful!
I have seen this website before, just great stuff. I would have love to have a hammock for my backyard to relax in...sounds wonderful for the few summer months we get here in MN.
I think I'd get earrings - possibly these: http://jewelry.novica.com/earrings/favorites/rutile-quartz-dangle-earrings-sun/169561/ - though I'd likely check out ALL 50 PAGES of choices before I decided...
I didn't get my ears pierced til I was 31 - and I've got only a few pair that I wear most of the time. Like you, I'd rather have a limited collection of high quality, beautiful, and preferably fairly traded pieces of jewelry, than a whole pile of mediocre options.
I think I would like to have one of their clothing items. Some of those dresses are really cute!
I loved the items I saw on Novica. Last Christmas I tried to by all my gifts from businesses and families to support microindustries and service organizations. That was easy to do for all the women I shop for, but I couldn't find things for the men on my list.
My husband and brothers love strategy games, and there are several beautifully handmade game sets on this site that I'd love to get for them. They'd make great Christmas presents and help me meet my goal 100% of the way this year. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this, Kristen! I really like many of the jewellery pieces. I wanted to get a new ring for a while, and I would certainly find one, or two...
I'd get one of the Celadon ceramic vases for my grandmother for Christmas. She loves flowers and vases!
I really like their earrings, and the table runners are pretty too. Thanks for letting everyone know about this site- it's great to be able to directly support artisans around the world.
I really love their charm bracelets.
My daughter would love these Cats.
http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=150010
She reads all the Warrior books and is quite obsessive about cats.
This is my first comment. I discovered your blog while reading Cooleydailynews. I love the handmade tote bags. I think they would be perfect for me to use for my Bible Study group and for my daughter to use at college.
I would love the "Cotton sundress, 'Classic Olive'" it looks as if it would be a fantastic addition to my wardrobe of neutrals!
Thanks for the great site!
Laura
I really love the sterling silver jewelry--I agree the simple pieces with clean lines are ideal. I get so lazy with changing out my jewelry that I love to find things that would go with everything.
Love the wool and cotton skirts, too! Great site--fun place to try to find new gift ideas!
I would like a rocking chair!
Uhh I would definately by the "Moment of Tenderness" sculpture. How beautiful.
Gorgeous pieces. I am really in love with the starfish necklace.
Wow, lots of beautiful items to choose from! I'd probably pick a scarf or new tote bag, but there were so many to choose from I couldn't narrow it down to one today!
I went straight to the jewelry as well. I love simple but elegant and think my favorite was the blue topaz dangle earrings. So many great options!
Definitely some jewelry! My favorite color is purple, and I haven't had any amethyst jewelry since it all got stolen while I was moving a few years ago. I'd probably get something with amethyst, and probably some simple silver jewelry as well, since I also have sensitive skin and can't wear most metals.
Also, I know this won't help me in the drawing, but my birthday is Tuesday the 16th. This would be a fabulous birthday present!
Jewelry or handbags. Such beautiful, lovely handbags. Okay, definitely handbags. 🙂
Likely jewelry.
I would LOVE to have the Mood Goddess sculpture. I am just in love with it! http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=31722
What lovely jewelry! I love your selections. As for me, yeah, no doubt about it, that gift certificate/code would have me heading straight for the jewelry!
I love the handbags! I would have a hard time choosing.
I found a ton of earrings I love, but I think I love these the most: http://jewelry.novica.com/earrings/favorites/pearl-stud-earrings-white-moon/162021/
I also love these three rings:
http://jewelry.novica.com/rings/ringsize-7/favorites/sterling-silver-band-ring-classic-passion/116369/
http://jewelry.novica.com/rings/ringsize-7/favorites/sterling-silver-cocktail-ring-love-knot/174568/
http://jewelry.novica.com/rings/ringsize-7/favorites/amethyst-solitaire-ring-lilac-spin/125377/
Jewelry!! This concept reminds me of the Ten Thousand Villages stores (and website http://www.tenthousandvillages.com/) that my church denomination started up decades ago. Fair trade all the way!
Definitely jewelry!
Jewelry! You have lovely taste, both bracelet and earrings are gorgeous (as well as the pendant necklace that you are wearing in the first picture!)
I already knew about this site and had purchased a pair of earrings, so I would love to win!
I would use the gift card for a wall hanging. My husband and I have been looking for unique and quality art with which to decorate our first apartment, and so far we have been rather unsuccessful in finding pieces that are within our price range. The art from Novica is very unique, and I especially liked some of the Andean Design Tapestries.
I think I would have to go with one of the gorgeous wooden chess sets for DBF. It would make a phenomenal Christmas present!
I'd go for one of the handbags. Thanks for the info - this is a really neat company.
I'd have a fun time shopping! We're looking at buying a house so I'd want some type of decor, I'd also love to get some jewerly, it would be a hard decision (One I'd love to make though!)
Oohh...so many things to choose from! I'd probaby go for a bracelet though. Back in my pre-marriage, pre-children days, I would collect a new bracelet from each country I traveled to. This could be sort of traveling without leavning home. 🙂
Love the new hair! Cooler summer do. We're all about "less is more" when it comes to hair and August here. 🙂
Topaz studs for me, too! Thanks for the chance to win.
I'd have to go for some of the baskets. Great little accents for around the house!
Love the earrings 🙂
I absolutely fell in love with the abstract clover earrings! I may have to buy them even if I don't win!
I love Novica! I would like to win so I could get the Golden Harvest coffee set or any of the Golden Harvest items to go with the platter I already have! Thanks for the chance to win!
I love their jewelry, too!
Oh, how do you choose? I like this http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=151754 but am also drawn to the jewelry. Everything is gorgeous. I have a Bday coming up and am wondering if I should ask for something from here. Thank you for sharing this wonderful site!
Whoa! That site has an AMAZING amount of variety! It took me a long time just to narrow down ONE necklace. That one is: Lapis lazuli strand necklace, 'Timeless Blue'
I love lapis lazuli. I don't see it often, but when I do, I usually go nuts for it. 🙂
well it would have to be one of the amythest braclets 🙂 they are gorgeous but to chose which one hmmmm could be difficult :-/
I would love to get a painting for our house!
The jewelry is beautiful, but would probably lean toward home deco items as we've recently redone our living/dining room.
I don't know what I would ultimately buy but I really like the look of many of the wooden sculptures! I think they're really beautiful.
I liked the cotton wrap around dress. I'm pregnant now but will enjoy a few new thing after the babys arrival.
I love the Celadon ceramic nativity scene.
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
I am a crafter and have a small business - that is what is appealing about shopping thru Novica - well, that and their very pretty jewelry! I love the bracelet you picked out!
They have some really unique stuff. I am a minimalist when it comes to jewelry too, but I do really like some of the earrings, I would pick this one: http://jewelry.novica.com/earrings/button/under-$50/sterling-silver-button-earrings-square-moon/131140/
I also really really like the bracelet you chose!
Thanks for the opportunity for the give-a-way!
I really like the choices you made. What a mistake it was to go looking at that website. So many beautiful things. In the brief time I spent there I would have a hard time choosing between a tea set, a pair of earrings or a bracelet.
So many choices, but I'd probably go for the jewelry. These artists are really talented.
I would love the floral pearl bracelet.
http://jewelry.novica.com/bracelets/floral/pearl-wrap-bracelet-garland/89293/
I think it is great to cut out the middle man, and I would buy from this website. Thank you.
Those earrings make me want to have pierced ears. 🙂 I love simple silver jewelry. I love a love of the pearl necklaces and bracelets that they sell. I would have to spend a lot more time trying to decide what I was going to buy. I really like this website.
I found a beautiful leather shoulder bag that I would love! Crossing my fingers!
So many pretty jewelry pieces on there that I had a hard time picking just one. So, I will say that the first pair (but not the last!) of earrings to catch my eye was the "Happiness" earrings by Nareerat. Fun giveaway!
Chest, 'Red Secretaire'
I'm with you on the jewelry - I rarely buy myself jewelry but I do love and often use everything I have. That's the benefit of not having much. 🙂
I'm already married, but the bridal jewelry caught my eye - there's a lot I'd wear just to parties and such.
I love this elephant journeys necklace. http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/favorites/sterling-silver-pendant-necklace-elephant-journeys/181817/
There are many beautiful pieces on this site and they aren't expensive; about the same price as the handmade items on Etsy. Thank you for sharing this with us. I will pass it on to others.
I love the jewelry and the home decor things - love the bookends!
LOVE the jewelry. Silver chain bracelet, 'Moonlit Diamonds'
is beautiful!!
I would love to own one of the paintings.
I would choose one of the photo's. I love the "Copacabana Dawn". The name alone is dreamy! And the photo is beautiful.
Wow very nice stuff and it looks great on you!! Wow lucky you!!
This site is awesome! I'm definitely going to have to keep it in mind for presents in the future. As for what I would purchase, my first inclination was the jewelry... but then I saw the teapots. especially the fish: http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=175976
and the duck family: http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=74364
I love the chess sets - my 6 year old loves to play chess! I also love the mango wood vases. It would be so hard to choose. I will definitely be doing some Christmas shopping, though. I love presents that help out people, not large companies.
I'm not big on jewelry either but I like the simplicity of their designs.
I will definitely be saving Novica to my favorites. I chose the Amber and Peridot "Dream" dangle earrings, because the one gem is my namesake and the other my birthstone. Such a rare combo. Thank you for passing along this site!
http://jewelry.novica.com/amber/amber-and-peridot-dangle-earrings-dream/162440/
I love the Teak birdhouse from Thailand!
I would probably get the Wood djembe drum, 'Family Fiesta'
Great website! I'd go for jewelry because I hardly ever buy it for myself. Something like this would be nice:
http://jewelry.novica.com/earrings/dangle/garnet/garnet-flower-earrings-radiant-blossom/182983/
I do love to have the bracelet!!!
I love the silk batik shawls! And the embroidered shawls. And Monday is my birthday - number 65!
Thanks, Kristen, for all your great work on this blog. It brings daily pleasure!
I'd love some quality jewelry, and this selection is gorgeous!
The jewelry is exquisite. Plus, by buying, you help someone out. I like that.
Thanks for introducing Novica to your readers!! What a great idea. And your new jewelry is fabulous (so are the pictures by your staff photographer 🙂 ) I've fallen in love with some painted glass jewelry boxes by Asunta Pelaez, a Peruvian artist.
Jewelry for sure. They have some beautiful necklaces.
Whew! That's hard- so many great things and a great reason behind them. I think I might choose something like the Ceramic drinking glasses, 'Happy Home'. Thanks for the chance!
I would buy some small stud earrings for my daughter who wil be 10 in October and would like to get her ears pierced for her birthday.
Wow. Loads of great jewlery! would be so fun to pick out some! =)
After browsing about the site and drooling over all the lovely items I decided I liked the teasets most of all.
I have an empty wall in my living room just begging for one of the beautiful abstract paintings. Probably with a bright colors scheme since most of the furniture I have is earth-toned.
I have been looking for table linens to dress up my Grandma's Retro but cool green table for a while and I found this http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=114271 table runner, I think it would be great! Thanks so much for sharing!
I'd buy my daughter earrings for Christmas. Maybe a pair for myself as well
So hard to choose! But I do love the earrings!
Love the social aspects!
The jewelry looks great, but I think I would get a handbag for my sis - she always picks out great ones for me and it's my chance to return the favor.
I think I would love the furniture. I did like the asian ottomans. Very interesting.
My goodness, I might buy the website out. I really loved some of the jewelry, but I also loved the sweaters and the wall hangings. What a great project!
I also LOVE that bracelet! lots of beatiful things.
I would love to buy my globally minded sister in law some new earrings to go with her new super short hairdo! (it's her birthday today) 🙂
I would probably go for some jewelry, but there are some lovely vases that have my eye!
It's got to be a pretty little teapot 🙂
I would choose some jewelry or a handbag. It would be a hard decision.
What a neat idea to help people make a living in some of these underprivileged countries! Our church sponsors small business loans in third world countries also, and you can really see what a difference it makes. I also wear minimal jewelry but would love a new bracelet or pin. Also- I thoroughly enjoy your website and all the pix. Keep up the good work. You're a great encourager!!
I love their stuff! I would buy earrings for myself and my daughter. I think she would love the butterfly earrings also! It is great to buy products that actually benefit those who made it!
What an amazing idea. I am artist myself who sells locally. It is amazing to see so much talent from all over the world!
It is difficult to choose any one thing.... I really like the pearl cocktail rings that are simple and elegant.
The men's rings are really nice too! I think if my boyfriend and I get married one day I will get him one from this site...he would appreciate something so unique and handmade.
i would love to try the jewelry. i am all about helping people and this is neat.
Skirts, sarongs, clothing in general- I have a four month old, so I need some clothing while I lose the baby weight!
I would have to get some of their scarves - so beautiful!
Love jewelry!
I would love this!!
http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/pendant/favorites/gold-accent-quartz-and-tourmaline-beaded-necklace-aura/181266/
I love the idea of buying from a small seller and not some big box shop.
I would love a pair of earrings just like yours!
I absolutely love the idea of helping out artists directly and love handmade items. Thanks for the review I will definitely go to the site when I need some presents for friends and family and myself. I absolutely love Opal and chrysocolla ring, 'Blue Trinity'
What a fabulous idea - fashion, and true support. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. After looking at things, it would have to be jewellry...but oh, the decision would be so difficult!
I'd love some new jewelry I could wear for work!
I would love one of their jewelry pieces or perhaps one of those pretty pitchers.
Wow! With or without credits, I've bookmarked that site. The journals had me right away, but I'm also a sucker for some unusual statement pieces to put around my house. Thanks for the heads up on this website. (P.S. I LOVE the pieces you chose - beautiful!)
I love handmade jewelry! Much more so since I do make jewelry myself too...perhaps it's high time I pamper myself with some. I'm a minimalist like you too, when it comes to jewelry, and yours look absolutely stunning!
I am liking those earing you are wearing... I agree I would rather have a few good piece, then junk!
I would love the lidded bowls. Tom yum soup would be perfect in them.
Beautiful jewelry! The blue topaz flower necklace would be what I'd choose first but there are so many other lovely items, it's hard to choose just one!
Thanks for the chance to win!
I'm a ring girl and they have some amazing creations on their site:)
I would like one of the brightly colored beaded rattan baskets!
Those earrings are beautiful. I would buy the earrings. Thank you for posting this. I love sites where you can invest in business owners and get something in return.
I would love to win this, my mother in law's birthday is coming up and this would be a great gift for her!
I love that so many commenters here love the elephant stuff. They are my favorite animal so I would probably choose something with elephants on it. From the jewelry collection, I truly adore these earrings: http://jewelry.novica.com/newarrivals/sterling-silver-drop-earrings-lady/179491/.
I just moved into a new house and am working on decorating it, so I would probably buy a painting or vase, or something for decoration.
I'd definitely pick jewelry!! thanks
Coming out of my lurking to comment - I would have to say jewelry...most likely a necklace. I seem to wear a pearl necklace every day.
It would definately be a sterling silver bracelet, maybe "Lace Baubles" or something similar for my daughter who will be turning 20 next month. She is such a great girl, always giving of herself by volunteering, working and going to school. Wow, thanks Frugal Girl for the chance to reward my "One in a Million Girl"!
I would get one of the steel wall art butterflies for my bedroom that already has a ton of butterfly objects that I've collected since I was a little girl
I would love to get my girls some nice jewelry for Back to School!!!
I would love to try some of their jewelry.
I couldn't justify spending my own money on these beautiful glasses (http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=94278).
I would buy the Autumn Daisy Ceramic bowl from Mexico. Love it!
Hi Kristin,
I would love to have a bracelet. Thanks for the chance to win.
I would buy presents for my mom and two sisters!
My yougest sister loves elephants, so she would get these earrings: http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=183040
My other sister would get some sterling silver/pearl earrings.
My mom loves simple and silver, so she would get some sterling silver jewelry as well.
You are so generous to share! I've worn the same pair of earrings ($10 cheapies) for over a year, so I'd choose a new pair! I'm a mothe of 9 with rarely a dollar for herself (Mom bought me this pair of earrings for Mother's Day) so it would be a real treat!
I love the bracelet you chose, but my husband and I are looking for a cross to hang on our wall above our dining table. The crosses they sell are beautiful, it would take a while to choose, but I think that's what we'd get.
I'm making my Christmas list and everything is coming from NOVICA! I am such a sucker for jewelry! So far I'm torn between the Lanna Breeze ring, the Introduction ring, Dazzle ring, Antiqua Sun ring, Inca Turtle ring, Gujurat Chic bracelet and the Leaf Song necklace. This site is wonderful, thanks for sharing!
My question is would Novica allow you to use the gift certificate to fund 3 of the artists? I would love to be able to do this! What a wonderful way to help others!
I think the "Marine Fantasy" necklace is stunning! I love anything in aqua blues. It would match a bunch of outfits I have 🙂
I would buy a tote bag or maybe jewelry.
I gravitate towards the necklaces. I really like that you can select necklaces based on length. I am a small person with a really small neck and usually look best in a necklace that is around 16". I am going to have to check back there when it gets closer to Christmas.
I really like necklaces and like the you can select them by length. I will have to check back closer to Christmas. I do have some hard-to-buy-for relatives and am sure I could find something interest and fitting there.
Very cool site. Thanks for sharing! I would love to check out their artwork and tribal masks. AND I'd love to win because the 15th is my 3rd wedding anniversary, and it would be an awesome present to myself and my husband! 🙂
I love the stacking rings that they have in the jewelry section. I might also be tempted to buy a tote bag.
If I won, I would choose the beautiful necklace called Sweet Lillac for my daughter.
Love the bracelet you got!
Beautiful choices!! Love NOVICA & I'd probably use it on a leather bag!! They're fabulous!! 🙂
I love all the pearl pendant necklaces. They are beyond gorgeous!
I just love this website. I have read about them in some cultural magazines we have on the military base here in Okinawa Japan. I would love to order some of their Andean reverse painted mirrors. Just lovely accents!
I love the Little Owl necklace.
The jewelry is beautiful. I also have sensitive ears and just bought my first silver hoops last week after years of cheap earrings- my ears are so much happier!
My favorite pick would be the "honesty" pearl earring and necklace set. So timeless!
Their jewelry is beautiful but so are their masks. And then the hammocks ... they look so inviting. It would take me forever to decide!
I'd pick an eco friendly item...possibly jewelry.
Thanks for introducing me to Novica. I love the selection of jewelry! I will definitely remember this site the next time I'm looking for a unique gift.
Wow, so beautiful! I love all of the earrings, and I'm just getting more accustomed to wearing longer and more colorful pairs.
I would definately purchase some jewelry. Not sure exactly what i would buy but one of the many lovely girls in my female dominated family would love something for Christmas!
I would definitely buy the bracelet you got! It's gorgeous.
I have used Novica in the past to buy unique Christmas gifts. My mother has eclectic taste and she really enjoyed the gifts. I would do the same next time I order.
I would love to have these:
Pearl and quartz cluster earrings, 'Blossoming Night'
The jewelry that you received from them is gorgeous! Thank you for the giveaway!! My husband and I are just starting out, and our house has hardly any decorations so I think I would get us something for the house ( I really liked the mirrors).Their website has so many beautiful things. Thank you for sharing their site:)
Oooh! I love your choice of jewelry, and I would choose similar for myself, or for a gift. Love the cause, too!
I'm with you, I'd go for the jewelry. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Love your blog.
I would buy a gift for my mom 🙂
How nice of you to spilt your certificate for a lucky reader. If I could resist one of the handbags, I would buy a gift for my sister's birthday or give her the certificate so she could pick something out; I'm sure she would love this site.
I love this site and I would either go for the jewelry or one of the wall hangings. Too much to choose from though? Thanks for posting about this website.
I am growing my hair long to donate, and as it gets longer have been wearing it up a lot. I haven't worn earrings for years, but the pair you are wearing in the pictures are beautiful! That is what I would pick as my "hair up - do" earrings.
Too much to choose from! I'd be partial to a new laptop bag... but might be persuaded otherwise from the photos of the other gorgeous products.
I would probably get jewelry. My inital thought was a necklace, but when you mentioned earrings for sensitive ears (mine are VERY sensitive), it definitely peaked my interest!!
I love love love these flower plates:
http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=150018
I'd love to be able to buy them!
I would love to buy the 'Silver Monarch' necklace...so simple and elegant!
I'd probably opt for some of the jewelry--so pretty! But I also love the shawls, so I just don't know 😉
Wow, such wonderful items! So glad you posted about Novica! I absolutely love the beaded bracelets and would love to get my husband one of the wooden statues for his upcoming birthday! 🙂
I love the style of bracelet that you chose- the ribbon one. I'm a sucker for simple clean lines. I'm currently drooling over their other offerings as well. Thanks for pointing out this site!
I'd probably get a skirt, though which one I'd have a hard time deciding!
I love the seashell ceramic teapot and matching 2 cups - found of course in the sale section. Thanks for the link. I will look some more when I have time and likely find some gift ideas too! What a wonderfully generous and thoughtful giveaway! May your generosity return to you tenfold!
Loving this sundress: http://clothing.novica.com/womens/dresses/cotton-sundress-summer-sky/166614/
And since our Georgia summer shows no sign of relenting, I could probably wear it well into December.... 🙂
Earrings! I love earrings. So many wonderful things on Novica's web site. I saw lovely vases and handbags and bowls. But my first purchase will be earrings. Thanks so much
telling us about Novica and thanks for posting this giveaway.
I would definitely pick the jewelry--so many beautiful pieces to choose from!
I'd probably buy some art! That seems to be the most difficult thing to pick out for the house.
Maracas? A third of the area rug I really like? Handbag? Some kind of bezel earrings, maybe. It might be tough to decide. I have read about Novica but hadn't ever taken the time to go look. Thanks for giving it attention.
my birthday is August 15th! This would be a great birthday gift!
I'm enjoying reading the comments, all of you are finding a lot of interesting things that I hadn't seen when I first looked at the website! That said, I think I would either go for some earrings or a shawl.... or maybe that cute tea set.... or a handbag...
Jewelry of some kind. I could look at their website all day! The things are wonderful!
Oh my. I found a "blue grace" glass pitcher made in Mexico. I would love it for serving summer drinks. Thanks!
I would buy the jewelry, some nice earrings, necklace they are all so nice. I dont really buy to many nice things for myself.
I LOVE the silver bracelet that you got that would be a definite purchase if I won....it might be even if I don't! 🙂
I would buy earrings and a necklace that coordinated well together, probably one of the colorful stone designs.
I would LOVE to have the Blue Caribbean large deluxe hammock. I told my husband I wanted one Monday when I spied a comfy looking hammock in someone's yard.
I LOVE the hammocks, but will just need to figure out where we would hang it.
I would absolutely buy jewelry...I'm so glad at indulging in that category and I realized the other day I'm still wearing some pieces from high school which was...awhile ago! 🙂
Wow! So much great stuff! I would have a really hard time deciding! I have two teenage daughter too, so I'm sure there would be some frantic shopping going on. I would like a nice accessery to with a special outfit, whether that be jewelry, a purse or a wrap!
It would be a tough call between the bookends and a piece of jewelry!
I would buy one of the Mayan hammocks. I would enjoy the beautiful craftmanship...and it would also inspire me to relax and slow down more!
I am so excited to find Novica, last February my husband and I went to Mexico. While there I found a beautiful platter that I wanted to buy, but it was slightly over my budget so I walked away. It's the only time in my life I have said no to something over budget and regretted it, I really wish we just would have bought it! So imagine my excitement when looking through the website I came across the platter I fell in love with in Mexico!! The artist is Alonso Luis and the piece I would buy is Talavera ceramic plate, 'Dancing Sunflowers' I love it! I would love to win the 75$ to buy what I wish I would have bought 7 months ago!!!
I would buy my husband one of the Alpaca sweaters for the coming winter. We live in The Northeast and he has Crohn's disease, which means the cold weather really affects his joints. Plus he is a big fan of Alpaca and eco-friendly products!
I would like to get a blouse. They have beautiful long-sleeve blouses that are great for the upcoming fall/winter season.
Ohh, what fun! Thanks so much for sharing with us!
I've been a huge fan of Novica for some years now. The artists are so talented. I find that many of the items are really perfect for unique wedding gifts. And the hammocks are awesome!
Kristen, Thanks so much for telling us about this company. Though I mostly buy nothing new, I have occasionally made exceptions for handmade gifts for others, and that is what I would use the gift certificate for. I may also turn to this company when I need a gift and can't think of an appropriate consumable or experiential gift for the recipient. Thanks!
I would love to be able to buy my mother a beautiful piece of jewelry. She has done so much for me, especially lately, and I haven't had the money to get her a mothers' day or birthday gift in years. It would mean the world to me!
There are some really beautiful items, and the ideas behind it are fabulous, both the deals with the artisans and the micro-loans. I would like to buy jewelry items for my bridal party and the women who helped with my wedding, which I just had at the end of July.
Thanks for a chance at this wonderful offer!
Jan
I would love to get some of the jewelry too.
Ohhhhh - there are some lovely ceramic bowls that call to me. What a wonderful thing - thanks for sharing the link! And the gift certificate!
to be able to buy something that is different from what everybody else has on
I would definitely go for one of the shawls - probably the Alpaca wool shawl, 'Crimson Harvest'!
I love this necklace! http://jewelry.novica.com/necklaces/favorites/pearl-flower-necklace-calla-lily/175559/. It would go with anything! Thanks so much for a great giveaway. I'll cross my fingers that I win!
First of all, I just want to let you know the I LOVE your blog!! I check my email everyday for it!! Secondly, I saw some really cool handbags that I like from Novica.
Lots of beautiful treasures, but as I am short on glasses right now, I would choose the cobalt blue "angles" drinking glasses. Gorgeous!
The one I like is Sterling silver choker, " 'Eternal Spring' "
Thanks
So glad for the site recommendation - great gift ideas - thank you! I love the handbags and soapstone carvings.
Oh my gosh, there are so MANY things I could buy from this store! Love the products, and LOVE the idea behind it! 🙂 I particularly loved the peridot dangle earrings! 🙂
So cool. I think I will get a gift for my MIL from there!
The Novica site has some beautiful handbags that I would love. They are functional and unique. I'm particularly fond of these two:
http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=179213&rectype=1
http://handbags.novica.com/natural-fiber/maguey-shoulder-bag-maya-meadow/179212/
I would definately buy a bracelet! Love everything!!
Love the sterling silver leaf earrings! Love nature's simplicity!
how beautiful! i would probably pick the opal solitaire ring, "clear lake"--i love what you picked--especially the bracelet!!
I selected a cottin tunic type top and a green embroidered scarf as both are versatile and can be worn in a variety of ways.
Thank you so much for creating awareness about this great site!
A very simple silver necklace or bracelet--they are just beautiful!
I would definitely go for jewelery. I love the frangipani bracelet, but there are lots of beautiful pieces!
I'd love a jewelry set (earring and necklace) but it's so hard to choose!!!! 🙂
What a wonderful program! Thanks for blogging about it!
This magazine rack would help keep our mail clutter contained. 🙂
http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=99622
I would love a nice pair of earrings. Thanks for all of your inspiration!
I love the Pearl drop earing, eastern moonlight. The earing look beautiful on you.
I love things that reflex the skill and craftyness of the maker. (For example furniture) I think today with all the manufacturing, we are losing the value of craftiness.
I would purchase the Sterling silver cuff bracelet, 'Love Knot'
I would love to buy one of the handbags! They are so unique! I am so excited to use this website to buy gifts this coming Christmas.
I would love to buy the Ceramic vases, 'Frangipani Frogs' (pair).

what a cool site! I really like the Peridot Dangle Earrings!
I would really appreciate the chance to get a blue topaz ring! My son was born in December, hence the blue topaz, but my skin is sensitive so I haven't been able to wear the cheapo ring that I was given.
Jewelry!! I can't remember last time I received good jewelry!
Saw Novica's stuff on the Greater Good website--check out their other companies!
I would LOVE some jewelry from their site...gorgeous!

Great earrings! I think I would choose the same ones.
Oh my those chess sets are awesome and not bad prices at all. We've always wanted a nice set, rather than cheap plastic. What a neat way to get one.
Oh, my. So many things to choose from. I think I would choose either jewlery or a wall hanging.
I love the earrings!
I'd get either one of the nativity sets because my mom collects them, or some simple earrings like you got.
Very pretty and simple designs!
I would get either one of the tunics or the set of jade turtles... I really love turtles!
I would love the earrings pls... but all the babies are perty 🙂
love ur website... keep it up !!!
tina
The soapstone jewelry box is beautiful!
I'd say jewelry since that's one thing I never spend money on and really can't find
at Goodwill! Would be wonderful to be able to shop for something that I don't actually need. I don't think I've bought new earrings in around 10 years!
I would spend the gift on some beautiful glassware. We do not have a full set of anything that matches. That works okay for us, but when we have company over it definitely presents a problem.
The owl pendant necklace would be the perfect choice for me, as we call our children our "little hoots".
I absolutely adore the bracelet you chose!
Their jewelry is amazingly beautiful! Sterling silver Y necklace, 'Elegant Drops'
There are so many beautiful things to choose from on the site. I liked the leather wristband bracelet 'Waves.'
I would buy the cotton Happy Elephant tote. It is super cute and I love a bag that is roomy enough for my things and to be able to throw a few things in for my 3 year old as well!!!
So pretty!
Hi Kristen! I would LOVE to have the pearl anklet "moon dew". Thank you so much for the opportunity. I would be so greatful if you chose me!
I too am a jewelry minimalist, but I LOVE that bracelet!
I would love to have the earrings!
I would love to buy a pair of earrings.
It would be such a hard choice - they have some gorgeous options! I've been looking for a mirror to hang near my front door for a while though, and they have some gorgeous options!
Those earrings look lovely on you. Wouldn't mind some for me.
They have some beautiful jewelry. I'll go back to that site for sure.
Wow, what a neat site with a ton of beautiful options!! Hard to choose, but if I had to pick I'd love to get one of the fun, summery glass pitchers!
I would love to cheer up my daughter with some beautiful jewelry. She just broke up with her first and only boyfriend of 5 years. And helping others in the process is such a blessing!
I love the beautiful jewelery. But. . . I am on my way to Germany and I heard they have flower markets with wonderful flowers. I think one of the vases would be very nice to have.
I love all of the onyx jewelry. I'd love a pair of earrings for myself and a pair for my mom. And many of the home decode items are amazing as well!

I love their earrings! I see several that I would love to have!
I love the statuette "Indivisible Love!" (http://www.novica.com/itemdetail/index.cfm?pid=25813) I've been looking for something like this to symbolize the relationship my husband and I have.
I would also love some new earrings!
I would love to have a silk fan. It would nice to carry in my purse for the hot weather that everybody seems to be having in U.S. and also some of the lovely earrings they have on the site.
I love the crosses! I really like the stain glass ones. Just beautiful!
I think I would buy something cat-themed! 🙂
Firstly, how sweet are you that you are sharing your gift certificate with a lucky winner. That isn't a butter up to you thing, but merely an observation; very, very nice! As for what I'd choose if I were to win, I'd pick a jewelry item. Probably save it for a Christmas present for my eldest daughter who recently had her ears pierced. Thanks Kristen.
There are so many amazing things on the Novica website but I would love to buy one of the instruments. My 8 year old has a budding collection of instruments from around the world. She has an Aborigone Digeridoo from Austrailia, a bell from Pakistan, and castinets from Spain. She would love this instrument they have called a Leaf. She is quiet the drummer so I would like to see how she does with another (unfamiliar) percussion instrument.
There are so many choices but I would probably select a painting. Such beautiful artwork!
Love these earings:
950 silver button earrings, 'Footnote'
There is so much to choose from! There are some beautiful vases but I like the earrings too. Choices, choices:)
ooooooo!!!! I love that bracelet....would definitely buy the bracelet! I have one right now made out of the handle of a silver spoon and I wear it all the time. Pick me so I can get another one =D
I would love to get the butterfly earings for my Mom. She believes they represent new beginnings an since she had a physic break this past winter she feels these are what helped her through to continue being able to care for herself. Of course I would be myself something too, your bracelet is gorgeous 🙂
I would love some new bangle bracelets! Earrings are out for me until my kids get a little older!
Wow, they do have a good selection. I'd probably pick some new earrings.
Hi, i LIKE THE jewellery you were wearing. Im from Australia, not sure whether Id be eligible for the gift voucher over here but letting you know I like the site, the bracelet in silver that you were wearing, and your blog too.
Oh my goodness. This website is amazing!! I understand your agony over choosing. I think I would go with one (or two) of the beautiful silk scarves or some of the fun earrings.
My daughter is leaving for college soon. I would sit with her, and have her choose something special. She is a wonderful person, and blesses me every day. I am going to miss her.
What a great website, supporting a great cause! I really love the Pearl charm bracelet, 'Moonlit Fans' braclet. Thanks for doing this giveaway 🙂
Sooo many great things to choose from!! I would love to use it to buy my daughter either the Chinese Dragon necklace or the "Dragon Duet' earrings for her upcoming birthday.
Thank you for sharing that site. I will bookmark it. I only wear sterling silver or white gold jewellery and there are many pieces of jewellery I think are really pretty. It would be hard deciding on one.
So many choices....I do love the amber jewelry....
What an amazing and generous giveaway. And what a wonderful concept to support. Thanks for sharing a great site.
I would definitely buy some jewelry--beautiful stuff!
I love everything my friend hosted a party about 3 months ago and since money is super tight I wasn't able to get anything there are so many things that are beautiful and its such a good company.
I would LOVE to win the gift card. You have a very generous heart, Kristen. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
How nice of you to share! I would be like you and head straight for the jewelry...one of my favorite things!
I love the pearl necklaces; I really don't wear a ton of jewelry, but I've been looking for a birthday present for my aunt, and she would LOVE some of this. So, I might use it on her.
I would love to buy jewelry, what a wonderful gift idea!
Oh I would love the soapstone coasters!
Jewellery so I could feel like a princess !

I'd love a painting!
I love the elephant sculptures! I have been searching for the perfect wooden elephant for my living room and may have found it on this site!
Well I love jewerly but I would love to order some to give to my little 90 year old mom for Christmas. You can't always be too early when buying and she would love it!
i would love to get some earrings for my sister
Sterling silver cocktail ring, 'Coquette Skull' is so cool! It looks all Day of the Dead-ish. Very cool.
I would probably get something to put on the mantle!
With the $50.00 I would buy my family a Christmas dinner if it were sold on that site. 🙁 This is going to be a very sad Christmas this year...again.
Before loaning, people should be aware that novica's zero-interest loan policy is not entirely true. The artisans must actually leave the equivalent of the loan in products in novica's office for sale on their website. I think that this collateral policy completely defies the purpose of micro-loaning.
I respectfully disagree. As long as the artists do get paid for their work, be it before or after they have paid the loan, it is just the difference between a secured and an unsecured loan. A secured loan is safer for ALL concerned, because if something does go wrong, the artist is not left with no means to pay the loan. Their debt can be paid in full using the collateral they left. Plus, having their work on the website can only help them to start their businesses.
