I was so coupon-y yesterday.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.
I'm not normally a big coupon user, but yesterday was a bit of an exception.

As usual, even with coupons, I'm a reluctant shopper. To wit: two of my coupons were expiring yesterday, which was the only reason I actually hauled myself out to the mall to use them.
I had a $5 Gap coupon, and Lisey and I picked out the coral long-sleeved boatneck shirt for her. I thought it was going to be $15, but when we got to checkout, it turned out to be $8, which meant the price was $3 after my coupon.
Schweet.
Then at Old Navy, I had a $10 coupon, so I bought a pair of leggings and a marked-down tank top, and my total was $3.
I also used a coupon for a free pair of undies, which are not pictured. Because even bloggers have to draw the line somewhere.
(You're welcome.)
I even used some coupons at the grocery store! I don't get a newspaper, so I don't normally have coupons. But a free paper got dropped off the other day, so I clipped out a few toiletry coupons.
So yesterday I used five $1 toiletry coupons, which were doubled to be $10.
Oh, and this is not coupon-y, but while I was at the mall, I dropped a pair of falling-apart sneakers off at the Nike store, which accepts old shoes for recycling. So, that made my mall trip even more worth it. Yay!
And now that I got that out of my system, I will probably not set foot in the mall again for months.

I just really wish you lived close to me-I think we would be "besties". Among other things, I use my frig for coupons too!
Must know: do you put yours on the fridge with a chip clip? 😉
Yes! I do use a chip clip!!
Fist bump!
On the tasty side of reluctant couponing, hubs and I celebrated "Bills Day!" (aka last day of the month, used for retroactive accounting and anticipatory budgeting) by using a pizza coupon for the store next door to us. An XL pizza with 3 toppings for 12 bucks, and no cooking required! It expired yesterday, so that was the very last chance. 🙂
Ha ha, so glad to hear you are a reluctant shopper too. My family think I am crazy because I am a female that hates shopping... I can't stand going into a shop hearing the trashy music, the jostling around people who need to stare at every item on the shelf, seeing too many varieties of the same item that makes it difficult to choose what I need and then finally queuing to handover my hard earned money. Aaah no thank you!
Malls feel kind of overwhelming to me. So. Much. Stuff.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who gets overwhelmed by all the stuff at the mall. If I ever go I have to have a very specific list written down in my hand, or else I end up forgetting why I'm there and wandering around, lost, until my head explodes and I have to leave with nothing.
I feel like mall department stores are particularly overwhelming. There are so many different areas where one could buy women's pants or tops, and how are you supposed to know where to go?
My Old Navy store here is like that too. It's sort of disorganized and I ended up wandering around the store several times just to find the plain tank top I was looking for, because varying styles of tank tops were sprinkled all around the store.
A simpler store design would be right up my alley.
I dislike shopping too, except for food. I really enjoy groceries stores and specialty stored (for food).
they do that on purpose most people fall into the trap and make impulse purchases.
It's funny how when I was a kid in the 90s the mall was the thing to do. Thanks to the Internet we don't need to shop in physical stores nearly as much. I'm sure some things have been lost (like leaving the house) but it's kind of nice that shopping isn't the big social event that it used to be.
I see no problem with not leaving the house. Long live internet shopping!
Hee.
". . .because even bloggers have to draw the line somewhere." Hah! Made me giggle. Excellent coupon-ing and probably the only way I can stand to do it nowadays. No patience for combing the ads, etc., but when useful one come your way easily its great. Nice clothing finds!
The last time I went to the mall I went to Macy's because I had a gift card. That was the only store I went to. There was a time that I would have spent the whole day at the mall looking around but those days are gone! Now I avoid the mall like the plague.
That was impressive!
I love getting clothes coupons that I can use. I don't think I have bought underwear in 5 years because of the VS free underwear coupon that I get every month. But the the L.L. Bean $10 coupons that come once or twice a year are my absolute favorites!
Great couponing! I also recently took a $10 to Old Navy and walked out with a $3 tab. I got a maternity shirt for me as my maternity wardrobe is starting to wear out after three pregnancies. I also got two shirts for my youngest.
I also had a coupon for free panties at Victoria's Secret. They relentlessly send me coupons for free underwear and $10 off a bra. I guess their algorithm says if they send me enough coupons I will buy a bra. We'll see! 🙂
My mom has a coupon for a free cookie at Barnes and Noble that we are taking off her hands as she doesn't live close to a B&N. My husband used a birthday free drink at Starbucks yesterday paired with a coupon for a free donut from a local place procured by redeeming recycle perks.
But for some reason we are no longer getting the birthday $5 coupon from Jason's Deli. I didn't get mine and now my husband has missed his. Has anyone else experienced this?
Other than store coupons in our local shopper, I don't get coupons. The "big city" paper available to our rural location is the "Outstate" edition which comes sans coupons.
I live an hour and a half from th Mall of America, which draws even international shoppers, but I have never been there.
The biggest boon to local grocery shopping has been the long-awaited opening of an Aldi!
And Aldi shopping requires NO coupons. Woo!
I worked retail during college and later did a TEN-year tour of duty at the same fancy department store you worked at, Kristen. Other than food shopping, I just don't do it unless I have to. Did I mention that I hate it?
Well, I had two events on the calendar that were going to require fancy dress clothing. I reluctantly went to Macy's and found a bunch of dresses that fit well on clearance, so I splurged. I fell in love with one more, but they couldn't find my size. Two days later the salesperson called to tell me she'd found it! When I went back, they had marked down more dresses, so yes, I shopped again. It was a special sale where the purchases had to be made on a certain date. I was out of town, so the salesperson took care of the transaction while I was gone. The dresses are now waiting for me to pick up. I was gobsmacked to realize I had selected *seventeen* dresses. How did that happen? They were as much as 65% off plus an extra 30% discount, but really, who needs seventeen dresses? Are you kidding me? I did that??
I wear dresses almost every day in the summer because they are so much cooler, and the current styles are a good cut for me for a change, but really?
I have decided that I will make myself complete a major project or two or six before I can pick them up. Once I see all of them in one place, I may return some that are too similar. And yes, I have been known to leave new things in my closet for a very long time before wearing them. I like having things on hand so I don't have to shop., just like my pantry.
Thank you for giving me this space to confess. I am normally a very frugal girl, but apparently aliens inhabited my body, forced me to go shopping, and this is the result. Fortunately, I have been a saver all my life, so this purchase will not derail us financially. No interest will be paid. I'm not going to confess how much I spent, except to say that if I had a $75/month clothing budget, there would still be plenty left for the year.
And if this isn't incentive to keep my weight at or below for the next five years, I don't know what is.
Oh, I just remembered, one of them is for my sister, so sixteen dresses. Not any better, really, but it has a nicer ring to it. Gah!
16 dresses is definitely more frugal than 17. Ha.
Seriously, though, if you wear them all the time in the summer, it's not that outrageous. Enjoy your new wardrobe!
