I know this is a little bit ridiculous.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I post a picture and just a few words.
One day a few years ago, when we had our old wood flooring, I got up from the table, stepped on the laptop charger, and slipped across the floor, dragging the adapter as I went.
I was fine, but the adapter (with my weight on it) etched permanent parallel skid marks into the wood.
It wasn't the end of the world, but when we got our new wood floors, seeing the charger on the floor was making me nervous.
So, um, I did this.
Yes, all four sides have felt pads on them.
It's a little ridiculous, I know, but it makes me feel better. 😉

Sure, but think how totally stupid you'd feel if you did the same thing again. You know it would happen. Those bizarre things usually do. At least to me they do.
Or if someone else did the same thing! There are six pairs of feet here that could slip on the adapter. Oh, the horrible possibilities!

it's not ridiculous at all! I put velcro on everything and anything I can hang or keep from the eyes direct line of vision. You paid good money for your new floors your subconscious is telling you to make sure the accident does not repeat itself lol.
I'm chuckling because there's a good chance I'd do something similar!!
Can't wait to see more floor pics!!
Theresa (and Ben) beat me to it!
True confession: For a second, I was scanning the comments for someone named Ben. And then...ohhh, duh.
Not silly at all-you guys worked hard for that new floor!
I see your frugality even in using felt pads! Did you, by chance, cut them in half?
We have felt pads in two sizes, and the bigger size is thicker, so more protective, but too big for some uses. I never thought of cutting them! That's inspiration 🙂
Yep, I did! It seemed a little excessive, even to me (!) to use a whole pad on each corner.
I'm so glad to hear u didn't get hurt
Too cute on the protection but what about the corners
Well, it would take some doing to stand on the corners of the charger, and besides, there's no way to really pad those. So I just called it good with the sides!
Been there...well kind of. I felt padded all of our lamps, alarm clocks, and coasters so our pretty new nightstands don't get scratched! Can't be too careful 😉
It looks a little ridiculous until you really think about it. It probably only took a minute or 2 on the install. That's a pretty easy (and cheap) insurance policy, if you ask me.
Nice floor, btw. 😉
Not ridiculous at all; makes perfect sense to me.
And here I thought I was the only one. Although I have wood floors I have never managed to make a mark in it. But.... to ensure I don't, I am implementing your very clever idea.
When we bought our house 23 years ago, we put new linoleum (hey, it was 20+ years ago and we had a tight budget) in the kitchen. In the process of moving stuff in the kitchen I used a wheeled cart that was so heavy the wheel cut the lino in a (fortunately small) area. I've been looking at that darn cut in the lino for 23 years! I got rid of the cart!
So I totally get it.
The first scratch is the hardest.
Yes. But at least we do know that the first scratch won't be from the laptop adapter. 😉
After 10 years with wood floors we would call those scratches patina! Our wood floors have sure held up!
So true. This, to me, is a huge advantage of wood over carpet. Old carpet never develops, um, patina. It just looks icky.
Every piece of furniture that has come in my door has felt feet on it. However, I hadn't thought about my computer charger...
Not just you, but I'm very careful about what sits on my hardwood floors. Its not cheap to replace and I don't think my ocd could handle having to look at a dent, however small.
Either a rug or those little felt coasters are a godsend. Or use cardboard if you're in a pinch.
I'm positive that our floors are gonna have some dents (there are six of us here, and one of us is BOUND to drop something at some point!), but I'm all about minimizing that as much as possible.
(Not gonna put pads on my kitchen knives. Ha.)
This made me giggle....a lot. The good thing is your floors are oak and they have a nice forgiving grain that helps scratches to not be as obvious.
You know, that's true! I'd never thought that about oak before, but you're right. Lots of pattern to distract the eye.
