Where did my 3 bags of candy go?

Onto a birthday cake. ;)

Which was a (modified) replica of a CandyLand game board.

We didn’t use all new candy, though…broken candy canes leftover from Christmas were perfect for making the Peppermint Forest.

Sonia had a cake like this when she turned 4 (she found the idea in a Taste of Home magazine), and after much vacillating between a Peep cake and a Candyland cake, she finally settled on this for her 6th birthday.

She was not as confused by the trick candles as Zoe.  ;)

And she and her siblings have been happily eating cake leftovers since Tuesday (a CandyLand cake is huge!).

So even though my husband and I are not big fans of cake topped with candy, I’m not at all worried about any of this showing up in my Food Waste Friday picture next week.

How does Frugal Girl get treated on her birthday? BTW, now everytime I buy myself a chocolate covered marshmallow treat I think of the Frugal Girl! (There are plenty out for Easter right now!)

That’s so neat! I don’t think I’d be a big fan of the cake/candy combo either, but I guess you could always pick the candy off and eat it separately.

I’m also interested to know how you get treated on your birthday. :-)

I don’t like the candy/cake combo either. A candyland cake is such a great idea!! I will have to keep that in mind for my nieces and nephews. They would love that.

What a great cake for a kid! Like others, I wouldn’t want the candy but I’d be willing to pick it off and eat just the cake.

I do believe that you should respond to the question above about how YOU get treated on your birthday. You surely don’t have to make your own cake, do you?

Oh, my family is very nice to me on my birthday! lol My kids usually make cards for me and my husband takes them out before my birthday because they all want to buy me presents. So, they each usually have a little something for me. And my husband ALWAYS gets me a present (he love, love, loves birthdays and celebrations and has never ever forgotten one. He would buy me the world if he wasn’t worried I’d think it cost too much!) and he makes me a card and writes a sweet note inside. That’s my favorite part, more than presents…I love heartfelt notes!

I love ice cream cakes, so my husband usually buys one of those for me, and we usually order a pizza or some other kind of takeout of my choice, so I don’t have to cook on my birthday at all.

I can’t at all complain about the way they treat me…I know for sure and for certain that they all love me to bits, and they let me know that every day, not just on my birthday. My kids are always telling me that I am the best mom in the world (which I am not, of course! lol), and my husband always tells me I am one in a million, that he is lucky to have me, that I’m beautiful, that I’m the best wife ever (which is very nice of him to say but is not exactly true! I have many faults.), and so on. So yeah…they’re all very grateful and appreciative of what I do for them and with them. I feel very loved all year long, and I’m grateful for that.

I just celebrated my birthday on March 3rd and got a chocolate peanut butter ice cream cake from Coldstone Creamery. Such an indulgence! And worth every bite…You gotta live it up on your birthday and Mother’s Day—great to see your family treats you right. So do my guys. My son asked me what I wanted and I said all I wanted was a card or picture from him, something created and not bought. He came through with flying colors, of course.

This has got to be one of the best posts. Not that I don’t like most of them. But this definitely has a “ahhhhhhhhh” factor. I think the cake is just too cute. How clever are you? And I don’t care it did come out of a magazine. You made it real which is what it is all about. Regardless whether I would like it or not, it seems your daughter did and that is what is important. And you are a very lucky woman. I just had my birthday and because I have a very hard time in asking for what I want, my dear husband (bless his soul) didn’t do anything. He really doesn’t believe in birthdays or special gift giving. I think I am supposed to know that he does love me, which I know, but still. So I am jealous. Those cards are the best.

Love the cute cake! It is such a fun idea and the pictures are wonderful! Because my boys are older, I think they’d balk at the idea of a Candy Land cake, but I think I can pull it off and make something similar to this summer when my son gets his braces off. I promised him a very special, stickey treat! The candy cake would be something yummy with LOTS of his favorite stickey and chewey candy!

That cake looks awesome. Great idea, and great low-cost execution. I’d rather have that than a store-bought cake any day.

What a fun idea. I might have to make a cake like that the next time my teens host a game night. I have a feeling they would enjoy the trip dowm memory lane as much as the candy!
