Ten Dollars?

For a huge box (probably 20 pounds or so) of slightly bruised local peaches, I think that's a very fair price.

box of bruised peaches

Usually there are just a few peaches in the bruised peach bin ($0.90/pound individually), but yesterday, the box was full, and a full box sells for $10.

Yay!

I froze a bunch right away (I do love peaches and cream on my winter oatmeal), and I think we'll just eat the rest.

  1. I just finished with my bushel of MI peaches that are soooo delicious. I froze 22 quarts in a simple syrup and made 2 batches of jam. I may or may not have eaten several peaches during the slicing process 🙂

  2. Jealous! Best we've been getting is nectarines at $1.69/lb. They really have been delicious this season.

  3. What a great deal! I love frozen fruit, especially frozen peaches. They're great in yogurt or oatmeal, and they make delicious smoothies.

  4. Mmmm, love fresh peaches!

My dad works in the fruit industry, and when I was growing up, he would bring home culls from the packing sheds he worked at. So all summer long we had huge boxes of peaches, nectarines, plums, etc. to eat. Yum!

  5. Our two peach trees have been so abundant with fruit this year. I froze several boxes and made pie filling that I also froze....I freeze it in a pie plate that is lined with foil and wrapped and then frozen, I take them and put two or three in a freezer bag. When ready to use, I thaw just enough to fit into an unbaked shell and let it thaw most of way before baking. Sure handy. I also canned 18 jars of jam to use as gifts...if we don't use it first:) We have also had lots of extra peaches to share with family, friends and neighbors. Very thankful! Peaches are so luscious.

  6. What a steal!! I just finished canning a ton (figuratively :)) of peaches -- peach-raspberry jam, brandied peaches, etc.

  7. Mmm! We get the seconds at the farm market a lot, especially if we are going to freeze them/make jam. My hubby has found that if you get to know the vendors, they will let you know if they have seconds, and you get a better deal.

  8. How do you freeze them? Do you do anything special to them?

Thanks! I ask b/c I LOVE fresh, local peaches and eat them all summer dreading when they are going to stop being so good!

  9. Awesome! We just got a peck of local peaches and they are delicious. We are only a family of three (and one of us is 15 months old) so there's no way we can eat them all fresh. I'm gonna freeze some for baking but I'd like to do something else too... maybe peach butter? has anyone else made peach butter?

  10. How do you freeze them? Peeled and cut in pieces (trimming out the bruises)? Just peeled? Do you put lemon juice on what you freeze to keep them from discoloring?

  11. peaches & winter oatmeal sounds yummy. However, how do you freeze your peaches? whole? I can't imagine that. Could you give me a hint how you freeze those peaches?

    1. Yup-I just peel them, slice them, lay them on a baking sheet, freeze them, and then put them in bags in the freezer.
