Sunday Evening Snack

Remember how I used to maintain a 365 blog? I stopped that about a year ago, at the same time I began posting here just three times a week. I kind of miss the fun and ease of 365 posts, but don't want the every day commitment, so I thought that sometimes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I'd just do a 365-ish kind of photo post here.

None of us were terribly hungry on Sunday night, so we had kind of a snacky meal. As I was getting things ready to eat, I realized that all of this is from Aldi. 🙂

We also had Aldi pistachios (not pictured) and popcorn popped on the stovetop.

(Which wasn't from Aldi, because they don't carry popcorn except for the kind in microwaveable bags, and I don't think those are particularly fabulous from a health perspective or a trash-producing perspective. And it's not like popping it on the stovetop is hard.)

  1. It all looks tasty 🙂 Strawberries are in season here at the moment so I'm making the most of them too.

  2. Beautiful!!! I am terrible at popping pop corn. It is soooooo crisp in the bags and kind of tough from the old fashioned way. I bought a pop corn popper but still kind of tough. So far I have had to get two caps at the dentist from cracking 2 teeth on pop corn--years apart. But I agree, the health aspect of the bag makes it not an option.

  3. We have also made whole meals of fruit, cheese and stovetop popcorn. You get salty and sweet and something a little heavier in the cheese. We have a stovetop popper and I use it several times a week.

  4. I love having easy, light meals like this! It´s almost like a type of Tapas; only you can choose whatever type of food you´d like!:-)

  5. Kristen,
How do you pop corn on your glass top stove without scratching the surface as you shake the pan?
Loath to eat over packaged, everseasoned, chemical laden microwave popcorn I got (from a freecycler) a hot air popper. The only problem with that is, it's a single use appliance taking up precious space in my kitchen.

    1. I pop plain popcorn kernels in a glass microwave safe bowl, cover it with a plate. Microwave for just 4-6 minutes then add butter, salt or whatever you like. I love that I don't have an extra little appliance, it's easy clean up and it tastes better than in a pan on the stove top, in my opinion!

  6. We love a good grazing meal. I admit there were many days it was just me and the littles when a whole meal wouldn't make sense or when the day completely got away from me and a meal like this hit the spot 🙂

  7. Aldi does have the whole popping kernels a couple of times a year, at least they have in the past. I love Sunday evening dinners. We often have "snacky" ones or "breakfast for dinner" on Sundays because we usually eat a larger meal later than usual that day. 🙂
