Happy Birthday to my blog!

A dark photo of lit birthday candles on top of a cake.

Not to steal any thunder from the holiday (it is the birthday of my country today too!), but my blog is officially a year old now.

I started out with this post about making skirts out of old pants (I republished it later, which is why it has a more recent date stamp now.), and just a handful of readers. Here I am a year later, pushing 200,000 hits, and every day I'm still in awe of the fact that you all come here each day to read my posts.

I think I have some of the best readers around...you all are a kind and encouraging bunch, and I feel very blessed. Thanks for reading, commenting, emailing, trying my recipes, and for participating in Food Waste Friday (also, thank you for putting up with my omni-present parenthenticals!) I'm delighted to have you all here, and it thrills me to hear that my blog has helped inspire some of you to manage your money better.

Writing my blog has actually helped me to manage my money more wisely too! Thanks to the accountability of blogging, I'm now wasting very little food, I'm tracking my grocery spending more carefully, I'm shopping at Goodwill (thanks, Katy!), we're eating less cereal at breakfast, and I'm even staying almost caught up with my Quicken software. That by itself is a minor miracle!

I have somewhere around a bazillion more ideas for posts, so as long as you guys keep reading, I'll keep on writing, and hopefully we'll all end up saving money.

Thank you for all that you do!

  3. I adore your blog! Congratulations on one year!
Though I don't always comment, it is so fun to hear from another homeschooling frugal mom! All the best!

  4. Congratulations! I love your blog. Not only have you really inspired me to start tracking our food waste, but your recipes all look so good! I'm eager to try your granola bar recipes, because I have a recipe for granola, but it doesn't translate well to actual bars. And your whole wheat bread is the best bread EVER! My husband and I sometimes used to take two weeks to a month to finish one loaf of bread, but it took us less than a week to eat two loaves of your recipe...it's a keeper.

  5. Happy Birthday! Now that I know when you started I just realized I've been a reader almost since the very beginning- found you in early September- love your blog, thanks for the inspiration!

  6. Happy Birthday!

You know what is strange? I started Modern Mommyhood a year ago today too. We both sat down on the same day to write a blog. Funny! You've done a fantastic job!

  7. Your blog is successful because of your honesty, good humor, and fantastic recipes. Keep up the good work, and thanks for encouraging the "conversation" with your readers all over the world.

  8. Wow! A year already! I think I found you very quickly after your launch. I remember most clearly your post about saving up for a week at the beach - that inspired me to do the same and now we're very much looking forward to that week coming up in September. We saved enough, in fact, to rent a big enough house to treat 3 other families, too!

  9. Here's to one year and hopefully many more. Yours is the only PF and Frugality blog I read regularly now. Keep up the good work!

  10. Happy Anniversary. I really enjoy your blog and I can't tell you how much money I've saved by making your deep dish pizza recipe. Hell, we ate it three times last week.

I completely agree with your statement "Writing my blog has actually helped me to manage my money more wisely too!" It's amazing how you think about a purchase when you have a few hundred people reading you everyday!

I look forward to spending many more years reading your tips.

  11. @Kristin @ klingtocash Good heavens! Three times last week?? lol Even my pizza loving husband would think that was too much pizza.

I'm glad you like it so much.

Stacey-so glad you got to save up for a trip!

Everyone Else: Thanks for the congrats. 🙂 I'm delighted to have been able to help and inspire you for the last year.
