Michael Jackson, a Nazgul, Rapunzel, and Flynn Rider!
This isn't necessarily a frugal topic, but dress-up photos are too much fun not to share!
Joshua had to work, so he didn't dress up. And Lisey went over to a friend's house, so I don't have a photo of her in her Oscar the Grouch costume.

But the four of us did dress up!
Zoe, as Michael Jackson.
We got her jacket from eBay at a discount because it had a bit of discoloration on the back. Totally no big deal!
Black jeans from Target, white socks from Zoe's drawer, and hand-me-down jazz shoes free from a friend who didn't need them.
Fedora from Zoe's private hat collection. 😉
Sonia went as a ringwraith from Lord of the Rings.
Her costume is from Amazon, and so is her sword.
The great thing about this costume is that you can wear all sorts of warm clothes underneath.
Unlike mine....
I did manage to put on some leggings and a tank top, but there's just no way to make Rapunzel very warm. 😉
Rapunzel has long blonde hair for most of the movie, but at the end, it gets cut off and turns brown as she's released from the wicked spell. So, I'm Rapunzel, freed!
But without the weird, enormous eyes. 😉
Mr. FG dressed as Flynn Rider, the other main character in the movie.
Flynn Rider does this thing with his eyebrows, and Mr. FG does quite a fabulous impression.
I ordered a stuffed Pascal from Amazon and velcroed him onto my shoulder.
And the frying pan is a $4 variety from Goodwill that I spray-painted black. There's a cast-iron one in the movie, but cast-iron is waaaay too heavy to carry around.
Mr. FG grew out his chin hair for his costume, and I got my hair cut for mine, so, you know, we were pretty committed this year.

Being dressed as a Disney princess was awesome because all of the little girls in the neighborhood were very pleased to see me.
"Mommy! It's Rapunzel!!!"
And now I kind of wish that Mr. FG and I had a costume party to go to because it's awfully fun to be dressed in coordinating costumes.
So, there you go! The FG family, in costume.
And now I'm wondering...is it better to save our costumes and list them on eBay next October? Or will they sell just fine if I list them now?
Hmm.

You guys are adorable!
I had planned to ask if Mr FG could do The Smoulder?!
Hahaha! I wondered the same thing!
That is so great. I never dress up (can barely manage to get my kids in costume), but I love seeing what other people do. I particularly love the Michael Jackson costume. I heard on the radio on Halloween that he only weighed a hundred pounds when they shot the Thriller video, so they added extra padding to his jacket to make him look bigger. I found that startling and kind of disturbing.
P.S. I lived in interior Alaska for a few years when I was a kid, and my costumes were always being covered up with coats because it was so cold on Halloween. Or you'd see lots of little princesses with long underwear and things under their foofy dresses. Your costume would never fly there. 🙂
So I'm just going to say it... Zoe wins! She looked awesome!! I hope y'all all got tons of candy with those outfits though!
We are the bum parents that don't dress up. But it has also rained the last 3 Halloweens, so trick or treating has been to a minimum.
Halloween costume party next year? In frugal style?
You all look great in your costumes! Too bad you don't have a Halloween party this weekend to dress up for again!
What did you guys do for Halloween? Did you walk your neighborhood trick or treating? It's awesome if you happen to live on a street that participates like that. The fire looks so cozy! Normally in Georgia it's super hot and stuffy on Halloween night, but we got a nice cool front this year. It was awesome.
You guys looked great!!
Ahh I love all of your costumers, especially your dress. I didn't know you cut your hair. You and Mr. FG look absolutely adorable together! Now I'm thinking about getting a dress for next year!
I hope you and your family had a happy Halloween! ^.^
Your haircut looks so cute! You were really committed!
I love all your costumes, but you and Mr. FG look especially amazing! Group costumes just take it up a level.
You all look great! I think you and Mr. FG should keep yours and host a Halloween party next year. Those are perfect!
Hah! I thought the same thing!
You and Mr. FG looked amazing. I say keep them. You never know when they will come in handy. I also say keep Sonia's - it could see wear later on!
The haircut and the chin hair look great! As do the costumes. I think you should keep the costumes and wear them again next year!
Why not wear the costumes again next year?
I suppose we could...although I'm guessing Mr. FG will want to try something new next year!
Everybody looks great! My son had Zoe's jacket for everyday wear many years ago (probably about 25) because it was COOL. Looks like it still is.
I would probably wait until next year to sell them (though you two could always just re-purpose them as cosplay and go to a convention together.)
No costumes in my house. My daughter did wear a "Happy Halloween" outfit her grandmother gave her but she's not into dressing up. Zero trick-or-treaters on my street as well.
I love the time and effort you put into your and hubby's costumes! It is so cool that your kids could see your enthusiasm for the holiday too. In our fast paced lives, it is so great you took the time to plan everything so nicely for you AND your kids too. (Planned haircut and chin hair growth even!) WOW!!! For the first time in 11 years, we didn't take the kids and their neighborhood friends on trailers. My freshman daughter had friends over and my now middle school son went with different friends in their neighborhood. It was the most relaxing Halloween I've had in years to be honest! 🙂
So cute!
My youngest went as Aurora, and I made her wear her winter coat under her dress, because it was about 38 degrees. It just fit over it. She was very upset that she had to be a "very chubby princess," but otherwise we didn't think she'd make it more than 10 minutes before getting too cold and wanting to come home.
Oh my goodness, that sounds SO cold. I'm positive you made the right call. 😉
Those costumes are all SO precious! And so creative, too!
This year we made our costumes. For $20 I made a Crazy Cat Lady costume from thrift store items. Mr. Picky Pincher made a very fancy paper mask and wore it with a robe. However, he couldn't wear his glasses with the mask after all, so he went dressed as himself. Womp womp.
I would love to see a picture of the crazy cat lady costume if at all possible.....since some think that is what I am! ( I only have 3 cats btw!)
Wow you even cut your hair! It looks quite good actually. We never dress up and we live too far in the country to get kids at our door so I will enjoy Halloween vicariously here!
Great job with the costumes! You channeled your characters and MJ brilliantly.
How about hosting a New Year's Eve costume party (Silvester)? There's no way you can just resell without rocking those costumes again -- they are awesome!!
Costumes sell all year long but you'd probably get better money waiting until closer to next Halloween.
Those costumes are amazing!!! I really can not imagine them being any better.......
Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Halloween is probably my favorite holiday....if it's considered a holiday. I love it no matter what. Your costumes are great!! I can't decide which I like best, but I love that you all dressed up.
My son dressed up as Kylo Ren, complete with fabulous light up light saber. We saw soooo many cute costumes...an Egyptian princess, a box of old-school popcorn (red and white striped box included!), and many super heroes and Star Wars characters.
I dressed up as Dracula for son's Cub Scout Spookaree (black pants, white shirt, black cape from our costume stash; white face makeup from a previously purchased Halloween makeup kit), and hubby was a Cub Scot (wore his Cub Scout shirt with his kilt, sporran, and wool knee socks). Cub Scot? Get it? He's a clever, clever man.
Such great costumes! 🙂
Aww, thank you!
