Want to pay less for gas? (You know you do.)
This giveaway is now closed, and BlogHer will be contacting the winner. Thanks!
Though I try to keep my driving to a minimum, gas is a non-negotiable expense in my household (my neighborhood has a dismal walkability score!) And since gas prices have been going in a direction that's very much the opposite of down, I've been trying to be especially mindful of my gas spending.
So, when BlogHer told me about the Fuel Rewards Networkâ„¢ program, or FRNâ„¢ program, I was all ears. The program revolves around the Fuel Rewards Network Card, which you can pick up at any participating Shell station for the low, low price of $0.00 (you can also sign up online).
After activating your FRN Card online at fuelrewards.com, you can start earning Fuel Rewards® savings.

How do you earn rewards? One way is by grocery shopping (depending on your location). If you're lucky enough to have a participating grocer in your area, you can link your grocery loyalty card to your FRN card and earn gas discounts when you buy food.
You can also earn discounts by dining at local restaurants. You can put in your zip code to see which restaurants in your area are participating. In my area, at least, the participating restaurants were all locally owned, so when Mr. FG and I go out on dates and support locally owned restaurants, we can earn gas discounts at the same time.
Your regular online shopping can earn you gas discounts as well if you shop through the FRN Online Mall, which has nearly 700 brand name online merchants. If you need to make an online purchase anyway, you might as well snag some gas discounts while you're at it. You get a discount on gas for buying a discount on something else!
A really handy thing about this discount program is that you can combine discounts from all of these methods, which means you can earn yourself a pretty decent discount on gas. Of course, it doesn't make sense to shop just to save on gas, but if you use the FRN program on purchases you've already planned and budgeted for, the gas discount is like finding money you didn't know you had.
Ok! To get started, visit a Shell station and pick up your FRN Card. Then follow these easy steps to activate your FRN Card:
-Go to fuelrewards.com and click "Sign Up" to activate your FRN Card. If you don't already have an FRN Card, you can request an FRN Card online during sign up to be mailed to you.
-Select "Fuel Rewards Network" for your card.
-Enter your card number and PIN. Follow the steps to complete online enrollment. You can also activate your FRN Card by downloading the FRN Mobile App for iPhone or Android.
Be sure to check out the Fuel Rewards Network program page on Facebook!

Any way to save money on gas benefits our whole family!
I would benefit from the savings on gas because our relatives are all in other states and driving to see them can be very expensive.
mami2jcn at gmail dot com
Oh goodness, any discount on gasoline would be a huge help to our budget!
And I tweeted about it:

We're going on a trip with my parents this summer, so I would give it to them to help with gas costs.
We're planning on doing some traveling this summer, so saving on gas sounds great!
I would benefit from this program because gas is very expensive where I live, and my husband has to drive for one hour to get to work
https://twitter.com/ElenaIstomina/status/331482411202396160
It would be excellent to save some money on gas since we were considering a road trip to visit family this summer!
I don't know if it would end up being worth it for me, because I'd have to see whether I was earning enough rewards to compensate for the fact that the Shell around us is usually $0.20 higher than everywhere else. It'd be worth a go though, because we can't use no gas at all 🙂
Saving on gas would be great, especially since my boyfriend lives 250 miles away
I'm an only child and my mom lives out of state - gas discounts would help us both see each other more!
I would benefit by being able to fill up the tank totally every week instead of putting just $20 in at a time, haha!
I grabbed a card a few weeks ago, but havne't getten it activated yet! I'm all about saving where I can!
My hubby drives 35 minutes each way for work, so saving on gas is excellent. also, we are fixing up our home which we bought on foreclosure, so we are trimming the budget wherever possible!
The shell isn't my closest gas station. It's about 5 miles, give or take. The price is similar to most of the stations here. I'd use a gift card there. I am much closer to Speedway. I'm between three(I work next to one so usually go after work), so I use their reward program. After so many points I usually redeem for $25 visa giftcards. It works out well for me.
Saving on gas would be great!
I would benefit because this would save me money on my commute to work.
We live in a small town, and the two closest gas stations are both Shell stations, so we would benefit through convenience and savings 🙂
Always looking to save on gas! Great giveaway!
gas is getting so expensive in socal.. i could definitely use a discount!
Gas savings! Thank you so much for the giveaway!
Between my husband and I, we drive 600 miles a week! And that means we each have to fill up once a week. That gift card would give us one week of not having to worry about our gas budget, which would be immensely helpful on our small single income.
Hello ♥
Fuel Rewards Network program will help me save a lot, especially now in the summer, we spend a lot more money on gas than we normally do
Tweet https://twitter.com/um_lil_cutie/status/331556430270328833
My grocery store is in on this deal - it's pretty easy to make it worth my while!
Any savings on gas would be extremely helpful. Especially with my long commute each day!
I would benefit from the Fuel Rewards Network program because my husband has a long commute to work and we have a lot of upcoming trips this summer. It would help us save money so we could enjoy more activities with our kids.

With the cost of gas going up, any way to save on it is a big budget help!
What a great opportunity- this would help with summer traveling! Thanks so much!
We have plans to visit family this summer, so a gas GC would be lovely!
Any discount is a good discount. We only use Shell gas so this Fuel rewards card would be great. Going to stop at Shell today and get my card. Thank you for the heads up on this card.
While I love the opportunties to get discounted prices. I'm not sure what I would do with another rewards card.
I'd use that extra gas money to help pay for the next out-of-town road trip.
Our local grocery store already has a gas discount program, but it only works on one car. If I could duplicate savings to save money for both cards, that would be great! Thanks for the heads up. And yes, a gas gift card would be very helpful! (We're traveling ~1600 miles round trip for my husband to graduate in a week!)
I live in the Chicago area, which happens to have the HIGHEST gas prices in the nation. Any way I can save on fuel prices would be a benefit. I just so happen to be a regular Shell customer too. I never noticed this program before. It was probably because of the shock of our high gas prices!
Gas discounts would help with my work commute!
I have really given some thought on getting a gas rewards card like this. Always appreciate your input on these things. Thanks
This would help.
I love a good chance to save on staples like gas that don't go on sale otherwise. Sounds like a good program to try out!
I would benefit by saving money on gas.
Thank you for valuable info and a chance to win! 🙂
Wow! Free gas would be awesome. I've figured out all kinds of ways to save money, but gas is one of those things you just have to have. It would be so nice to have $100 to spend in another area of the budget.
We'll be moving to a more rural area soon, so any discount on gas would be a great help!
I forgot to mention this will mean less bike riding for me 🙁 because everything will be a farther distance apart.
We've been taking a ton of trips between NC and MD. At over 260 miles each way! The FRN could definitely take some of the pain at the pump away.

Saving money on gas = more traveling for summer vacations and visiting the family!

I would LOVE to win a fuel gift card - we are planning to meet my daughter, her husband and our grandson for a camping trip this summer, the gas card would sure help with the expense of driving there!
We could benefit from this because we camp a lot during the summer and drive long distances--gas prices are ridiculous right now!
tweeted https://twitter.com/pittsy82/status/331790559377227776
I love to save money on gas!
Saving money on gas would allow my family to splurge on fun activities every once and a while.
Sounds great! I already buy gas at shell most of the time. I'm a grad student, so the budget is always tight.
This type of promotion seldom works for me. As a single person I don't purchase enough to get the needed points.
winning this card would be a month of free driving for me. WoHooo!
There is something similar here in Michigan at our Speedways. You earn points by purchasing merchandise and gasoline. We commonly save our points for vacation fuel. A $100 gift card would be a good start to a new points system.
Yes, every little bit helps.
We would benefit because my husband has a 40 mile commute each way, and gas gets so expensive for our family!
Definitely would benefit by saving some money on gas.
We would use this on our next road trip 🙂
It would benefit our family as my husband currently has a lengthy commute...and public transport is non-existent where he works!
Heh, I would be very happy just to pay the full price -- the full U.S. price that is! Here in New Zealand, we're currently paying$2.04 per litre, which roughly translates to US$6.50 per gallon.
Not so long ago we were paying $2.20 per litre, so there's been a bit of a price drop. Not that you really notice it at that price! 🙂
any savings on gas is great! it's non-negotiable for me too - I have to drive to work -t oo far to walk and even too far to bike plus where I have to drive isn't the safest. would take the bus in a heartbeat if it'd come to my job's drive but it won't 🙁
My family operates on a super tight budget, and this would be a big blessing to us.
I drive a lot for business and would save an average of 31 cents per gallon. That would greatly add to my bottom line.
We'll be having a second baby soon, so any way to save would be very welcome! Besides, I'm sure two kids will require lots of trips into town. 🙂
chambanachik at gmail dot com
Mmm, yes please! I could use some free gas for a drive down the coast this summer!
A gas gift card would make the summer so much more fun by not paying for gas. We have a long trip planned this summer with stops to see family and friends in 5 states and we'll be passing through many more.
I'd love to win, my husband loves buying gas at Shell.
Oooh, hubby drives to work everyday, and next year he's applying to medical residences (-> LOTS of expensive travel). Eeek.
I'd benefit because we put on about 20,000 miles per year.
Anything that lowers gas costs would benefit our household! We don't go out much to eat, but we certainly will look up and see if any local places participate in this promotion. Thanks for telling us about it and for the chance to win.
I would benefit from the savings on gas because we will be traveling a lot this summer.
austma7@aol.com
Great Tip!
This really sounds like a great program. My husband and I are on the road often and use lots of fuel. This extra savings would really add up for us.
I tweeted: https://twitter.com/peg42/status/331928630093549568
We'd love to get benefits from buying what we already do! Not even sure what we'd get, but the idea is great!
Would love to save on gas! We have some of the highest prices in the country, and road-trip season is coming up. I do have trouble earning fuel rewards because I don't spend much at the affiliated supermarket, & don't eat out much... because all our money is going to gas! haha 🙂
Just applied for this and got my card a few days ago. Gas is expensive in CA and we drive a lot so major benefits!
tvollowitz at aol dot com
I shop at Fred Meyer a lot, this would help with road trips this summer!
With gas prices rising, any cents off a gallon is wonderful especially when you get rewarded by shopping at your favorite stores!
https://twitter.com/myfolly/status/331991804272594944
My local Kroger gives me gas discounts for buying groceries, but this card would be handy for when we are needing to buy gas away from home, which is fairly often. And we could earn discounts at more places than just the grocery store. Sounds like a win/win.
Since buying gas is not optional, any way to save money here is helpful to the savings account.
My husband is on the road a hour and a half total each day for work. That is a lot of gas money! He would definitely benefit from the program. Even if it's just saving a little here and there, it all adds up!
You can't beat free gas, I'm in!!!
We'd definitely benefit! We are a one-car family in the winter, which has been very challenging with a special-needs daughter with lots of doctor's appointments. But now that it's nice out, my husband can drive his topless jeep around. Easier to plan our days but it does wind up costing more in gas! I'd love a $100 gas card to help us out, and I'm investigating the rewards network to see how we can save.
And tweeted! https://twitter.com/lilmsmoneybags/status/332089984066670592
My husband has a long commute, so any little bit helps.
I would love to fill up the van for a change.
Would LOVE a $100 gas card! :)!
Any discount on gas is wonderful!
Gas is a big expense for me. Thanks for all the great info on your blog.
This would be great for our vacation trip to South Carolina this year!
Since my husband commutes over 100 miles each day, gas is a huge and looming part of our monthly budget. Anything we can do to lower that expense helps.
My gas/commute budget is stretched so thin. This would be so helpful, especially with all the shuttling around to T-ball!
every little bit helps! (and $100 isn't necessarily a little bit!) 🙂
A year ago my husband's job was simply eliminated and he began a daily two hour commute . Gas has become a huge part of the budget-worse, it's an unpredictable part ! A gas card would be such a blessing .Thanks!
We participate in the rewards program with our grocery store (Price Chopper gives $$ off gas at Sunoco) and my chase card gives 5 cents back at gas stations from January to March. But the savings at price chopper never last the whole month so this card would be wonderful! Thanks for hosting this give a way !!
https://twitter.com/monicarinckey/status/332120342967484419
This is an awesome giveaway! I'm dreading the inevitable gas price increase over the summer.
you can earn discounts on gas
Thanks, this would be great!
Because my husband and I have such small commutes, we can go a little while without buying gas. This fuel saver would allow us to build up discounts in that time and save a nice chunk of change.
Any help with the gas bill would be great!
This gas card would definitely help us as we travel from MI to GA to visit family this summer! Thanks!
I'm a stay at home mom and I transport my 4 children to and from school each day. Being a one income family of 6, that would be a HUGE savings for us!
savings on gas are very interesting and awesome, can't get around without car/gas!

Would love some free gasoline! And Shell happens to be the cheapest station for me on my route to work. Thanks for the opportunity!
A $100 gas card? Oh, what a blessing it would be!
Thank you for this offer! Have a lovely day!
I love to shop and eat out, so saving money on fuel while doing things I love is a win/win!
I sure could use $100 in free gas! Buying a new house sure drains the accounts when you're also trying to plan a small vacation. 🙂
I would benefit from this program that saves me money on gas because I drive 50 miles per day to take my Granddaughter to the Bus Stop and then pick her up, so she can go to a good school.
Does Shell have any coupon policies? Such as take competitor coupons or a double day? I pass one twice a day, but go to Holiday to use coupons. Thanks!
I've blogged about the giveaway!
http://satisfyingsimplicity.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/pssst/
Would share with my daughters who then could use the money for gas to come visit.
There is literally no way for me to get to work without a car so I do whatever I can to combine trips, buy my gas at the cheapest place, and keep the car tuned up and the tires properly inflated. Free gas is good!
Yes I do! (want to pay less for gas that is lol)
Thanks so much for this opportunity to enter to try and win the $100 gas card!
I own a suburban because I have a large family. It's a gas guzzler. This summer we are driving from our home in KY to my mom and dad's. We haven't seen them since 2009. This $100 card would benefit our family's trip budget as we travel across the country.
Thanks for the heads up! We just purchased our first home - so any little (or large) bit helps!
Saving on gas is always a good thing. Will look at the details on this program in a few minutes. Wonder how it works with the Kroger fuel points. Can you really do both at once?
I would benefit so much from this program! Shell gas saves me money in the long run, and rewards make it even better. Being a broke college kid means I like to save every penny I can.
My husband has to drive a lot for work, so free gas would be a real asset!!
Um, I'd use it to save on gas?? I drive quite a bit, so that would help.
I blogged on the sweepstakes today:
http://craftsbywendy.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/win-100-in-free-gas-at-shell/
I drive ALOT. A gas card would be well used, and appreciated!
This will be very helpful - we are planning several road trips this summer, and every bit saved will add to funds available for fun;-))
I would love to save on gas! That category has been increasing for us lately.
This is cool! Could use the extra gas for summer vacay!
https://twitter.com/Funny_Face/status/332190478294478848
Thank you for this giveaway. I'm a single mom and I could surely use the gas savings!
I'd love $100 in gas! 🙂
I'm a regular Shell gas purchaser...and could really use this gas discount for my commute to/from work. I travel 1-1/2 hours each way!!! Ugh!!! I think I'm going to check it out right away!
Saved money is always welcome! No matter how.
I am not sure how many rewards I would earn. I am sure Aldi's is not one of the grocery stores and my husband and I rarely eat out. Also, I shop at a gas station with competitive prices. I know these rewards work well for some of my friends, I am content to save money in other ways.
The workers at our local shell are the nicest guys. Wish me luck!
I just found your blog. Thank you so much for the wonderful money saving advice.
Could really use the gas!
Any saving on gas would always be welcome to this TaxiMom of three teenage kids that are very community, school and sports active. Highly important to me to keep my children involved and so gas becomes a priority!
Gas discounts and dining discounts would be awesome!
I would love the discounts
Would love to win!
Would love to win! It would help me save on taxiing my kids around!
The money I'd save with the Fuel Rewards Network Program would help tremendously to fund my husband's commuter bus monthly pass!
I would love some help on our gas bill!
I'd like to enter! 🙂 I'm also working on using less gas- we're moving soon to a house that's a mile round trip to the store and I am STOKED!
In California, gas prices are higher than most other places. I would benefit by saving some cash on gas and not having to deal with Costcos horrible pumps.
61 mile roundtrip to work. Nuff said. I do carpool and have a very fuel-efficient car, but that's still a lot of miles and $$. Every penny counts.
we'd save money on our roadtrips to visit grandma and grandpa
we'd save money on our roadtrips to visit grandma and grandpa
Saving on gas is huge for us. My husband commutes over an hour each way everyday. Thanks for this and all your other helpful info!
I would benefit from the FRN program because I shop at one of the participating grocery stores (BI-LO) and hubby and I also dine out at some of the local restaurants that would qualify in our town. I can see how both of these would add up to some nice discounts for me at the gas pump. And with our first baby due in September, the more money saved the better! 🙂
I am always looking for a way to save on gas. I live in the county, but work in the city driving close to 30 miles ONE WAY. It sometimes makes me feel that the reasons we chose to live in the country are somewhat eradicated by the fuel energy that I expend to and from work. But at least we are blessed to have one parent at home with our kids and that is priceless!
Even though I love to get out of the house in the summer with the kids, I will be making more of an effort to go car-free on certain days. The gas card would be a nice treat.
I love to save on gas any way we can. We use quite a bit of gas living in a rural area like we do, and gas prices are higher where there is less competition.
When doesn't free gas sound good? Sign me up!
The FRN Card sounds like a great way for me to save money since I drive a lot!
Saving on gas would really help our budget
This would help our budget/debt reduction in the gas department. We are already car-pooling to work as much as we can, but still spend way too much on gas!
Fuel is a huge part of our budget and gas literally just jumped 20 cents overnight here. I'd love to save $100!
We live off of a teacher's salary, which means a very tight budget. Any way we can find to cut costs is awesome for us.
We have not been on a vacation in years....looking into doing a road trip this summer. The fuel rewards would help us save so much money on our trip...maybe we could even splurge on a hotel for a night or two...rather than camping.
Wonderful info! Thank you, I love that you find and then share such great money saving/living frugal tips!
The savings program would be anouther opportunity to create "extra" money towards the kids savings/college funds. We are a one income family and gas is an ongoing non negotiable expense, saving money on gas would free up money towards a savings for the kids !!
ajm323@hotmail.com
It would benefit me by helping me get more gas for my money, I sure do drive a lot!
I will benefit by saving money on gas.
Hubby and I both drive daily. In addition to daily gas usage, road trips around the country during holidays add up quick too. Fuel Rewards Network program would be very helpful in all cases.
We would benefit from the Fuel Rewards Network program because we drive a lot of miles for just work and school each week. Once summer get's here it only get's worse because of all the camps and trips to the beach.

A gas card would be great for my budget since I'm currently paying over $4 per gallon.
Shell is practically across the street from us, so convenience plus gas savings= benefit! 😉
Thanks for the chance.
This would benefit our family as my husband has a long commute to work every day.

I could save a few pennies to use on other bills
Everyone benefits from saving money! I like the idea of this program a lot!
Saving $$ would allow us to live comfortably...
I'm always on the lookout for the cheapest gas and I love saving money!
Even with a fuel-efficient car, we still need to buy gas every now and then when we visit our families in the next country over!
Er....county. Not country. lol
id benefit because i drive way more now that i stay at home with my baby so extra savings would be great!
https://twitter.com/DesMoinesDealin/status/335213233164136451
We travel a lot to see family... so we'd rack up rewards while doing it.
Shopping online and dining out

My family would benefit because we all have SUVs, and gas can get expensive!
My Shell station is down the street.

I'm always trying to save money so this is another great way!
Every savings at the pump helps, great benefit!
My husband is always on the road for work....would love to save some $! We spend about $400 on gas a month now 🙁
Any discount on gas helps, especially with travel plans to see the grandparents this summer.
Thank you for informing us about this great way to reduce our gas costs ... as retirees we are always looking for ways to cut back ... so enjoy your blog ...
I would benefit by the savings, because gas is such a big item in our budget!
Saving on gas sounds great right about now!! I've noticed in the last week or two that the gas prices are starting to creep back up. I do lots of driving in the summer months, as I try to take the kids on day trips and fun outings when they are off from school. My son's baseball team has us doing quite a bit of traveling as well. There are definitely days when I feel like I've spent a good part of my time in the car......so, I could really use this $100 🙂
I need has money!!! 🙂 please
Does the FRN card only work at Shell stations? Not a dealbreaker, but unless the program is run by Shell you would expect other stations to be included.
Free money is always beneficial.
A gas card would be a big help, especially when you have travel at least 1 1/2 hours in one direction to do your shopping!
Who wouldn't love free gas?!
We are planning on spending our vacation time with family on the other side of the country, and this would definitely help with gas expenses!
I can save some gas money, since i drive everyday
https://twitter.com/Merle0304/status/337009320581537793

We take a lot of road trips.
Seems like we are driving more and more as the kids get older - I'll have to check this out.
I love Fuel Rewards Network and use it all the time. It is so great to be able to save some on gas prices these days.
My husband and I both drive older cars that don't get great gas mileage. Any saving on fuel would be welcome!

I live a good distance from my family. A tight budget makes visits few and far between. This program would enable more visits!

I'm in the same boat as you. Gas is a non-negotiable expense. I do my best to conserve but I have to commute both ways to work because it is too far for a bike and due to the distance and crossing county lines, bus travel is very prohibitive. So any gas savings would be a big benefit.
I would benefit because I have a long work commute

As a single mom, I am always stressed out when I pull up to the pump! It's so expensive!
It would be awesome to earn more by buying groceries!
Shell is the station I visit most frequently on my way to work.
love this prize!
We would benifit from the savings when going to see family this summer!
With gas prices in S. California so high, every penny helps. And I can save just by shopping for groceries.

This would allow us to drive from Michigan to Texas, to visit my hubby's family
This would make it so much easier for us to go back and forth to Virginia to visit family. Since we buy groceries and go to local restaurants, it will be great to earn points for doing so.
The FRN program sure would help on the budget since I drive quite a bit just to get to work and back!

i don't do much traveling but i do run a lot in town
I could rack up quite a savings with the FNR program. I drive a lot.
I would bebefit from this card because most of my fillups are at a shell station.
I would benefit because I drive 60 miles round trip for work, then another 20 for the gym, then taking the kids back and forth!!
I have a long commute and do not make much more than minimum wage so every cent counts for me in trying to pay my bills. This program would allow me to save on gas, which costs more than all my utilities and food bills each month put together.
I drive alot and dine out frequently!
Gas money for vaca.
gas like everything else nowadays costs too much, finding ways to pay less on everything is required now to just get by
I've been driving less and riding my bike more. This would let me increase my driving again.
I'd use the money we save for more cookouts!
This would really help out my family!!
i would benefit by saving money on gas. gas is always so expensive. i would love to save money!

save money on gas
Every little bit helps and I love rewards programs. Especially for things we already buy, like gas and groceries. My husband has a 50 mile commute every day. We will have to check this out.

I have to travel far to visit family from school and this would help me save some money.
I would benefit because it would help me be able to go and visit my family more who live over 100 miles away
I would benefit from saving money on gas, especially since I have been having to drive a lot of extra miles for work lately. Love that it's free to sign up for. Thanks!
I'd say those miles that my husband drives to work would really add up for us. I could use some discounts on some nice dinner out.

We do alot of traveling to go camping and fishing during the summer.
My husband drives a lot for work so this would be so helpful.
Anything I can do to save money will help. I do like rewards cards because I know I am saving money.

The program would help because my grandson currently drives 45 miles to work and is also looking for a better job, which entails driving various distances to interviews, etc. Any amount of assistance with gas would help.
I would benefit by saving money on gas through grocery store purchases.
It would help when we want to take a vacation or go sightseeing

I would benefit because with the price of gas these days every penny helps. Love earning reward points on my groceries since you buy them anyways.
I do so many errands every day that it seems I fill up every week.
This card will come in real handy!
I would benefit by saving a lot of money

It would help to save on gas because every penny counts.
Sure could take some of the sting out of my husband's commute. (Now if it could just do something about his boss.)
We already drive a Prius and average 54 MPG but with gas costing $3.89 a gallon, it still gets oricey for my hubby's 90 mins of commuting time each day! I would love to save money on the fill up at the pump and this offers so many more ways to earn savings than just grocery shopping!
