I'm not really blogging today.

That's because it's sort of the 4th of July today (since it was on a Sunday, most Americans are off work today as well), and because I haven't even got the bones of a Q&A post put together.

So instead, I'll show you what we've been up to so far this weekend.

On Saturday, my older three packed up their things for an overnight stay with their friends. They weren't supposed to leave until 3:00, mind you, but their bags were packed by 8:30 am sharp.

Kids bags packed for sleepovers.

Anticipation will make you do things like that.

Zoe stayed home, though, by her own choice. And in the afternoon, she came along to my cousin's wedding.

She had the option of staying at a friend's house along with the older three, but she wouldn't hear of not coming to the wedding.

She didn't really come for the ceremony, or the dinner, or the cake (though the cake was tasty).

No, Zoe came to the wedding because she loves to dance.

She doesn't ever seem to mind that she's the shortest person on the dance floor...she just heads right on out and does her thing.

No one has ever showed her how to dance or talked her into liking it...dancing just seems to bubble up out of her when she hears music.

Look what was on the guestbook signing table! (though excuse my dreadful inability to take a picture of a picture!) It always makes me all happy inside to see my pictures being used. 🙂

Though I wasn't the wedding photographer, I did keep busy with my camera. I documented my newest niece/nephew's growth...

and took a photo for my parents (my mom was silly enough to ask me if I brought my camera!)

We did eventually drag Zoe off the dance floor to take her home, and her exhausted little flip-flopped self fell asleep after about 5 minutes in the car.

After church on Sunday, I went over to my parents' house to hang out with some extended family, most notably my uncle and cousins who are here from the Midwest.

Because everyone was so tired, we decided to put off using our fireworks until tonight. We did set off a few snappers, though.

I also played some DDR with Lisey (she's my DDR buddy). Zoe, never one to miss out on an opportunity to dance, always dances on the floor next to us. 😉

And this morning, we went out for bagels.

So, that's what I've been up to. What have you been doing this holiday weekend (well, holiday if you're in the U.S.!)?

  1. What haven't we done this weekend?

Thursday night we went bowling. Friday night was fireworks. Saturday we went to the farmers market, rollerskating, to the carnival (where AJ went on his first upside-down ride), and ended the night at a BBQ with more fireworks. Yesterday we had friends over and BBQ'd some more. Then we went out for ice cream and watched all the fireworks in the sky by driving (elevated) highway.

I have pictures too but not quite the quality of yours. 😉

  2. It was a holiday weekend here in Canada too. We celebrated Canada day on July 1st, but hubby and I took the Friday off instead of the Thursday to make it a long weekend. I finally was able to pick up the last few plants for my garden (50% off as it was the first markdown weekend) and we had a pool/sleepover party for the youngest who just turned 10. The weather was beautiful, if not a bit humid, and lots of fun was had by all!

  3. Our neighbors on the creek have a semi-annual fireworks competition. That was Saturday night and I have to admit, it was the best show I've ever seen! There's nothing better than watching your neighbors battle it out each year with the rest of us cheering them on. You may have heard us... It really was that spectacular!

The best part is when it's all over you just pick yourself up off the pier, dust yourself off, and head back across to street to the comfort of your own home. 🙂

  4. Um...do you have any relatives who don't look like models?

This weekend I released a feral cat that had been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped and worked on socializing two of her kittens.

I also stuffed my face full of food and indulged in a few adult beverages.

  5. You're not blogging? That was an awesome entry. I loved it.

We also took a stray cat to be neutered, and think we've found him a home. I have two cats already, and when my daughter moved back she brought her two as well. Too many to keep the little thing.

We put sealant on out deck today. HOT! But now it looks lovely. Have a nice day!

  6. Sheesh....I'm tired from reading that!

Sounds like you have a good weekend.

Looks like you had an AWESOME weekend.

  7. I love reading about you and your family. That had to have been your mom, because you look exactly like her! Looks like it was a beautiful wedding, and little Zoe is so cute with her dancing. My 3 yr old son loves music and dancing, too. Glad you all had a great weekend!

  8. For a second I was feeling a little sorry for Zoe that she wasn't going with her siblings, then I knew you would have something special planned for her,and then when you said you were going to a wedding, I knew why she was going with you! So cute.

Also - talk about looking like your parents! You can see your features in both of them. Great photo.

Oh, and I also love the cutting the cake photo from the back.

Thanks for sharing. I love these "non post" posts.

  9. Had a great time in California! Enjoyed a brief vacation, saw wonderful fireworks on the beach, and got caught up in a marshmallow war that we knew nothing about.
Yep, that's right, a marshmallow war. Kind of like a snowball fight, but with marshmallows (not a lot of snow in San Diego, I guess). It was a riot.

  10. Oh, my. I always love your photos, but the one of your parents just made my heart sing. Their love for each other and for the photographer just shines through.

  11. Just wanted to say that the bridesmaid dresses were the same ones I wore (color and everything) in a wedding I was in last summer! They were great, comfy dresses and they had pockets. My favorite part was that they weren't too expensive 🙂
