My Cherries
Yes, they cost $8, but they were really, really good.

So good, I don't even feel terribly bad about spending $8 on them(which is significant, because $8 is a tenth of my weekly grocery budget!).

Yay for cherries! This past summer toward the end of the cherry season, we were able to get a 5kg box for NZ$25. (Okay, I think that's about 11 pounds for US$15.) I think we went through 2 of those. They were so good! Look, I reckon it's worth spending a bit more especially in summer on good fresh fruit and vegetables that you simply can't get fresh in winter. It's really good for you and it makes you love summer even more! I'm sure you already do, but be sure to check out farm stalls - you can get such awesome deals there (in NZ, anyway!).
They look so good though!!
I usually splurge on cherries, berries and melons during the summer... they are healthy and keep me from reaching for junk food instead.
Hope you enjoy them!
Ahhhhh cherries!
I was able to get cherries for $0.77/lb at Sprout's Farmers Market (store not true market) two weeks ago. They were so good! This week I had to pass because they were up to $2 something/lb. Such a bummer. I might have to make room next week to splurge. Cherries, strawberries and corn on the cob are the height of summer foods to me.
Good cherries are worth almost any price!
It's one of the few things my husband and I don't see eye to eye on. He doesn't care about cherries, and I just can't understand how he doesn't "get it." They're heaven.
Calimama- where is Sprout's? The Auntie Em's CSA had cherries this week and I hope they have them next time as well. In good cherry years, I find even the cherries at Trader Joe's or even from the people selling them on the street are good.
Holy cow! $.77 a pound?? and 11 pounds for $15? I need to move, apparently. lol
I haven't had any cherries yet, I'm waiting for local Washington State cherries. I love them so much, but I probably won't see them for another month or so. Yesterday, I got grapes for the first time since last fall---it was the first time I saw California grapes this year. I never buy the ones from Chile in the off season, that's too far. California ones are my only choice, I think the only ones grown in Washington are turned into wine. Although that's a wonderful way to get some grapes in me too!
MMM i agree all the fresh produce can get expensive but i spend on cherries, grapes, melons, etc and figure it is worth it so long as i forgoe cookies, brownies, packaged crackers, and vending machine candy at work. Using fruit for snacks also really helps as I am a daily victim of afternoon - office worker mindless snacking and i can mindless much quite a bit of fruit without destroying my health.
Beautiful photo! Delightful healthy snack. Sweet and satisfying. $8 well spent!
Wait a minute, I thought this was a family blog ... OH, yeah the fruit.
What do you plan to make with them (or just eat them straight?) I'm not a cherry fan, myself. ^_^;;
Oh, the cherries are long gone. We managed to plow almost all the way through the two pounds on Saturday when we ate them with dinner. lol
