It's official!

Today we're having a miscellaneous post. To start us off:

I'm officially accepted to nursing school!

When I got the email...I cried.

It's not that I was nervous about getting in; I knew the odds were extremely good that there would be a slot for me.

So I wasn't crying tears of relief; I just felt a flood of emotion thinking about how hard it was for me to get here.

I thought of all the challenges I have faced in my efforts to go back to school and how there were multiple times that I was tempted to quit in these years of doing my prerequisites.

But I made it!

I went back as an adult student, I passed all my classes with flying colors (even that chemistry class), I took my TEAS test, and I did it all partly while living in a very difficult marriage and partly while leaving that difficult marriage.

A true summation of my last few years

And now I just have a few more things to knock out before classes start in the fall.

(Such as a CPR class, a drug test, and a medical examination)

chemistry homework.

You guys, I'm really doing this!! I'm going to wear scrubs soon (student scrubs, but still!!)

I feel so proud of myself...like this bursting feeling in my chest. And I am also just so very grateful.

After four semesters, I'll have my R.N., sooooo, buckle up for two years of riding through nursing school with me. 🙂

Blood-tracing assignments from anatomy.

Also, I was thinking: if I cried at just getting accepted into nursing school, I'm REALLY gonna cry when I graduate!

I went long-boarding and I did not hurt myself

We got out the longboard and skateboards on Sunday and I successfully navigated the streets without falling.

I look...not relaxed. Ha!

I wore my (repaired) Vans so I could really pretend to be a skater girl. 😉

Kristen's feet in black vans.

I arranged my closet in rainbow order. And then I undid it.

A while back I happened to include a photo of my closet in a post, and several of you said you were positively itching to arrange my clothes in rainbow order.

clothes hanging in a closet.

Well, the other day when I was decluttering my clothes, I put everything in ROYGBIV order.

And I decided that it is most definitely not for me. Having my summer stuff mixed right in with the winter stuff is just toooooo weird.

rainbow organized closet.
This looks like chaos to me.

Also, I feel like it's not even visually pleasing!

So I did a modified rainbow arrangement: my winter things and summer things are separated, but they both are still vaguely in the "correct" order.

Anyway, I just thought you should know. 😉

I have been eating lettuce at breakfast

I don't know how long I will keep this up but...I'm on a pretty good streak of eating lettuce/greens with my breakfast.

fried eggs on greens.

I don't have it as a side if I eat, say, pancakes or oatmeal. But if I do one of my savory egg-based breakfast plates, I usually dress some greens and eat them as a side.

The dressing I use is this slightly sweet vinaigrette from the mandarin spinach salad recipe I shared long ago.

sweet dressing in a jar.

The dressing has sugar in it, yes. But you cannot make me feel bad about that because I AM EATING LEAFY GREENS AT BREAKFAST.

No one can push the self-righteous halo off my head, ok?

I just keep a jar of the dressing in the fridge and then I toss a serving of greens with it right before I eat.

Super quick. Super cheap. Super healthy.

Allllllrighty. I think that's the end of the miscellaneous things I have to tell you for today. 🙂

  1. Let me be the first to offer huge congratulations on your acceptance to nursing school! You've worked hard and faced many obstacles, and you deserve it!!

  2. About a year ago, I was watching all the organizing shows, and did my closet (seasonally) in ROYGBIV. That is when I discovered that I don't like wearing all of those colors, and eventually donated them. Now I have about 4 colors and most of my stuff goes well with each other!

    1. @MommaJo, Same here! Ended up with a very heavy amount of black stuff at one end, and then I rescued a little white dog whose short hair sticks to everything. Donate donate donate!

  3. Congratulations on getting into nursing school, Kristen! So, so happy for you. You’ll be graduating before you know it!

  4. CONGRATULATIONS!!! And I'm not just talking about your salads for breakfast... 😉 Sending you much proud love! ❤️

  5. Congratulations! And thank you for sharing all the emotions it brought up. So real, so understandable, so honest.

  6. Congratulations! You’re amazing!
I realized today how invested in your life I am, as I teared up at this news too!

  7. Oh man, I really hope you pass the drug test. 😉

Thanks for tolerating my silliness. Seriously, you are awesome and amazing and I feel a little teary now, too.

I'm with you--I separate closet items based on season, not color. Plus, I keep our closet doors closed all the time to keep the cat out, so no one sees inside except for me.

    1. @Kris, haha, yeah. I think we're all a little worried about that drug test on her behalf. 😉

  8. Congratulations. I can feel your well deserved pride and happiness seeping through this post. The world will be blessed to have you as an RN.

I liked life before it was important to organize your clothes by color. I organize mine by type (long sleeved, short sleeved, sleeveless, long pants, capris, shorts). I put the just washed items towards the left of each category so I know what hasn't been worn in a while. If items are stay unworn towards the right I often give them away

  9. Congratulations, Kristen! Good for you - you have every right to be proud! It will be a privilege and a pleasure to ride along with you during the next two years. Keep up the good work - and have fun celebrating this special milestone!

  10. Proud of you moving forward, especially through the tears.

That photo of the notes made me vaguely anxious, though, so I know nursing school is most definitely not for me. 🙂

  11. Congrats Kristen!
Also I do a rainbow closet with one side spring/summer, other side fall/winter and it works pretty efficiently deciding what to wear and locating items.

  12. Congratulations! Such a great reward for all your hard work. And an even bigger reward in the future when you can add RN to your name!

  13. Congratulations on your acceptance to nursing school! I was sure you would be admitted but I know how gratifying the official invitation is 🙂

  14. Recently celebrated 50 years of being a nurse at a reunion with 23 others from our diploma program. One thing to remember is that the next classes will all feel relevant. Unlike some of the prerequisite classes, all the nursing classes fit your goal. So happy for you. And what lessons you are teaching your children through example.

  15. Congratulations! Job well done!

Lol on the clothes sorting, for those of us who live with 4 seasons it can be complicated. I sort mine according to summer or winter & color. Then my work clothes are sorted the same way. Now that we no longer have a dress code at work I can donate a lot of my dress shirts & pants. I still dress up, just not as much.

    1. Hahahaha, well, the good thing about not using drugs is that...you don't have to stress over a drug test!

  16. Two more things: "longboard" made me think surf--last time I had a surf lesson they handed me an 11' board. I tried not to be insulted.

In your honor I used NURSE as my starting word in Wordle. It was not that.

    1. @Rose,
I haven't done mine today, but last week in honor of National Nurses Week I did use it...it wasn't a winner then either!

    2. @mbmom11, @Rose, @Kristen, and @Dawn,
I love it when I get it in three! I almost never get it in two, so yay, mbmomm11! And now I know not to try "nurse" on today's Wordle. 🙂

    3. @Liz B., Ha! What makes Wordle so great is that it's just the right amount of brains and skill with plenty of luck mixed in. Several of my friends and I check in with one another every morning on FB with our scores, and it's really fun.

  17. Why don't nurses wear those white uniforms with the little hats any more? I always felt like scrubs looked like a cross between pajamas or something a clean up crew would wear. But I'm an old man who likes old fashioned things, I guess.

Either way, congratulations on making your way to nursing school. I know once this is all done it will certainly make the world your oyster considering how in demand they are right now.

    1. @Battra92, when a friend of mine was accepted to nursing school about ten years ago, some of us pooled our cash and bought her a sexy nurse costume. My friend could not stop laughing and in fact wore it for Halloween.

    2. I'm positive it's for practical reasons! I'd imagine it's way easier to do your job in scrubs than it is in a little white dress.

    3. Seriously. Those dresses needed ironing too. Though the long capes they used to wear are pretty spanky. Society in general has gotten much more casual in the past 60 years. You're all welcome for that ground-breaking insight.

    4. @Heidi Louise,
And, according to a friend who took nursing years ago, cotton slips, so they wouldn't produce static.

But I'll be honest, I miss the white uniforms, too. Note, I didn't have to wear them, or I probably wouldn't say that. That said, I've seen some quite attractive feminine-cut tunics and matching slacks in some pretty sharp designs on some female nurses these days. Those, I like.

    5. @Battra92, when my mom went to nursing school (in the 50's!) you had a picture taken when you first started in a nursing uniform with a cap. After you graduated, you had another picture taken with your cap that had a blue stripe added to it to show you are an official nurse. Oh and there was the blue cap too! Not sure if she had to take a test or not, like they do now, tho.

    6. @Battra92, (hospital worker here) : between bending down to adjust equipment, lifting patients, washing them, changing them, doing medical procedures that sometimes involve blood, spit and feces, and being on their feet all day, I am personally very happy nurses don't have to dress like flight attendants anymore! Yay for comfy stretchy scrubs 🙂

    7. @Rose,
When I was in grade school, my best friend's mom (who was a nurse) would always glue the navy blue trim on her white nurse's cap....I'd always see them "drying" when I came over to play. I don't know if she DIY'ed the whole cap, or just the trim? Maybe she was a Frugalista RN? I have no idea.

    8. @Liz B., In the book Her Mother's Daughter by Marilyn French (one of my favorites), Jean the housewife spends the late 50s and much of the 60s pleating organza nurse's caps in a back room in order for her family to pay the mortgage. I am guessing this is based on someone French knew.

    9. @Rose,
Interesting! Now I need to read that book. Maybe it was a common thing to do back then? (For me, I'm talking about the early 70s).

    10. @JDinNM, Aha! it's the reality of the job in hospital tho. I'm not a nurse, but I work alongside them daily (I'm in physiotherapy). Healthcare work is not pretty and clean, let me tell you...

  18. CONGRATS!!! So excited for your new journey!!
Tip- ask the college what vaccines are needed for clinical. Often you need a titer drawn for Hep B and Varicella. Knock those out this summer if you need to re-do those.

    1. Yes, I have a whole list of things I need to get titers for! I have an informational meeting this week where I think I will get more details.

  19. Congratulations on your nursing school acceptance and I hope all goes well with your clinical rotations, too!

  20. Congratulations on being accepted into nursing school. You deserve to be super proud of yourself!

  21. Let me add my congratulations to you! As someone else said, I feel very "vested" in your success and perserverance! You are just the right kind of person to be a nurse: warm, smart, and caring!
Looking forward to continuing to follow your journey and wishing you much happiness for your future!
    Nancy

  22. I want to congratulate you on your acceptance into nursing school, all while dealing with major things going on in your life. You deserve so much as you navigate everything with grace..... you let yourself feel the feelings, but you persevere and keep going. You're such a strong person and I enjoy reading your posts (your blog is my absolute favorite). I cheer you on from here! Best wishes on your next life chapter!!!

  23. Congratulations.
I need to get a my closet and seasonal storage boxes of clothing and deliver them to the collection box for the homeless at a local donut shop.
I wear the same 3-4 pair of jeans that I have worn for XX number of years. Presently they are a bit out of style; but it won't be long before they'll be back. At least they are not bell bottoms.
I work 1-2 days a week and have a pair of black pants for work and I switch out tops and jackets. I have worn all of these clothes for many years. Many were passed on to me. I could thin out to 7 tops a season. I would have so much space in my closet.
    Breakfast looked good.

    1. @JEG, your closet intrigues me and makes me a little jealous. I really admire people who escape commercial indoctrination.

  24. Congratulations on getting into nursing school! I look forward to seeing and learning more about your journey as you become an RN.

This was an amazing post (well, all your posts are amazing) but this particular post was just so touching.

  25. Huge congratulations to you for your sticktoitiveness!!! That MUST be a word right? Hard work pays off! Just know that for all you go through, there's a huge community here with you (and your kiddos) cheering you on!!!

  26. Finally: people arrange their clothes? I hang up some stuff and fold (poorly) others and hope the door closes and the drawers shut. Somewhere, my junior high home ec teacher is weeping.

    1. @Rose, lol. Mine resembled that in the past. I have downsized many years ago because of living in a motorhome. I currently have so much room I have to stop myself from filling it. I plan to move into a tiny home at some point in the future and I don't want to do a huge purge at that time.

    2. @Ginger Bruce, I have been purging lately. Fortunately anything that's a woven cotton my daughter wants for patchwork quilts, so that's something. Anything else can go in one of the charity bins.

    3. @Rose,
Lol.....I have an obnoxiously large amount of clothing that needs to be destashed. Clothes in sizes I can no longer wear, ancient things that just need to *go*, as well as clothes I currently wear. I have an armoire (not antique) whose doors will not close, and a walk in closet that cannot be walked into.
At one time, I was doing a course related to "how to dress the body you have" (rather than hoping for some different body, I guess?). Anyway, one suggestion was to sort your closet by color, which I did....and realized I have wayyyyy too many white t shirts. Sadly, that didn't spur me on to get rid of any of them. :-). It's one of my summer goals.

  27. That’s super-wonderful news about your acceptance into nursing school! I’m extremely proud of you!
Your ability to stay on the skateboard or longboard is impressive, too. That’s not an easy task. These days, I find it challenging to keep my balance on a bike or roller skates so… I think I’ll stick with dancing. It’s closer to the ground. 🙂

  28. Congratulations on the official acceptance to nursing school!

I personally feel it is a major accomplishment just to have the clothes hanging up in the closet. But I have a 3yo and a 1 month old, so I'm in a season of lots of laundry (most of which never makes it on to hangers).

  29. Congratulations Kristen! You’ve worked hard, on so many levels!, and I hope you celebrate your success very soon!!

  30. Congrats on your acceptance! I graduated from Nursing school 34 years ago at age 25 with 2 young children (5 and 7 1/2). There were students in my class from age 18 to late 40's with the majority either late 20's or late 30's to mid 40's. It's definitely never too late! I felt "old" when I graduated, but hopefully I was just an old soul. Now 34 years later I do pediatrics, nicu and mother-baby so they keep me young, and for me, a great way to wind down my career. I can't wait to see where you land!

  31. I don’t know how you did it with a couple of huge obstacles in the way, but you should feel very, very proud of getting into nursing school on your own terms. Yaaay for you! Thanks for bringing us along for the ride. I’m already looking forward to nursing stories.

  32. Congratulations!!! As a nurse i understand all the work you put in to get here. Just wait! Now the fun truly begins!! I always get happy when i hear good people going into nursing. Such an amazing profession and i can't wait to see where you land.

  33. Congratulations!! In case I've never told you, I find you so inspiring and interesting and real. Thanks for letting us in on the everyday and the big stuff, too. You've got this.

  34. I'm so happy for you! It's been amazing watching you and your kids grow through the years. I am excited for this chapter for you!

  35. Now that you're on the other side (more or less), I wonder if you stayed in the marriage as long as you did to wait for the kids to be mostly adults - ?

I'm in an awful marriage, but reluctant to leave because my child would then have to spend regular time alone with the other parent. Other parent is not mentally/ emotionally healthy, but not so obviously bad that it would prevent them from time with child. Child has special needs, but spouse has never been very involved and tends toward power trips.

Do you wish you had left sooner, even when the kids were younger? Did you wait to make sure they could spend time with parents as they were comfortable? It feels like a lose-lose decision because a child will be impacted either way.

    1. Aww, friend. I am so so very sorry to hear that you are in this situation.

Yes, I wish I left sooner. WAY sooner. What I wish I had truly understood is that even if we'd had 50/50 custody, that would have at least meant that my children would have had 50% of the time with a mom who was healthier and more present. My marriage sucked up so much of my energy, I could not give my kids what I wish I had been able to, in so many ways. I think overall for them it would have been better if I had left sooner.

But, that is done now, so all I can do is make the best of things from here on out. And one upside of me waiting for so long as that they are all old enough to make decisions for themselves; even Zoe will be 18 soon.

Still, if I had to do it over again I would make a different choice.

Feel free to email me if you want to discuss further; I'm willing to say more via email than I am in public!

  36. Congratulations!!! This may sound silly as we have never met but I am so, so proud of you. The healthcare world will be a much better place with Kristen, RN in it!!

  37. Congrats! I am impressed by your accomplishment, it sure is not easy and many would've quit. You will make such a wonderful nurse!

  38. Congratulations! I am so excited for you to officially be a nursing student! I am a family nurse practitioner, registered nurse (x 31 years) and currently a full time nursing faculty member. Your blog demonstrates your caring, intelligence, and motivation! You are going to thrive in nursing school and as an RN! Rough times build resilience- you got this!

  39. How exciting! How fortunate your patients and your colleagues will be to work with you! Congratulations!

  40. You are going to be one amazing nurse, Kristin! So happy for you! It'll be a lot of hard work, I know -- but you're tough enough to get through it all.

  41. YEAH!!!! I am always in awe of someone becoming a nurse and helping people. But being that you are older than the average student - WAY TO GO to getting into Nursing school! I'm glad that you chose such a compassionate profession. And all the studying that goes with it! WOW!!!! I know you will do very well in Nursing School. If my son-in-law can do it, you can too! (and yes, I like exclamation points!!!)

But seriously, you should celebrate. With all the challenges you have faced, congratulations.

  42. Congratulations! I was an adult student so I know how rewarding it feels to juggle home life and school. And I bawled like a baby when I graduated. Like ugly cried. So proud of you! Best of luck these next two years! It’ll fly by!

  43. Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you. I honestly think that when you have to work extra hard to achieve something, you are more aware of what you've accomplished. It's wonderful to know that you're moving forward and will soon have a great career. Great work!

  44. First off, of course, is a big congratulations at the official acceptance! This was expected, but that makes it no less of a wonderful moment! I adore that shirt.

As far as hanging clothes in the closet - I don't have two distinct seasons of clothes (Florida!), except I do have sweaters, which are folded. I have my clothes in color order just to make it easier to find my desired garment, but I have them further separated into office and non-office wear. Office on the right, every other type on the left.

Congrats on riding the board, too!

  45. Mazel Tov!!! I am very impressed and very inspired by you. As someone approximately a decade older than you, the idea of starting over just terrifies me---even though it would probably be very good for me! My beloved (young adult) child and I have had more than our share of health problems the last 10 years or so, and so many nurses have helped us through difficult times/procedures. Kudos to you for wanting to join their ranks. I look forward to following along your nursing school journey.

  46. Congratulations! You are such a wonderful example of discipline, determination and focus, and an inspirational role model for your daughters. You will be an amazing nurse because of all the life experiences you will bring to your patients.

  47. Congratulations! You are an inspiration to us all!

I am going to give the breakfast salad a try. We are soon to have a plethora of greens coming from our front yard garden.

  48. Congratulations Kristen!

I’m curious if emotional processing is different for you after the last year? Or maybe if accomplishments feel bigger given what you’ve endured?

    1. To the latter question: yes, definitely. The fact that I have had to overcome a lot of stuff to get here does make me feel like it's a big accomplishment!

The processing: Hmm. I don't know! I do remember that last year, my anatomy and physiology professor wrote me a very encouraging email, telling me not to give up, and that he was so impressed with me, and I burst into tears after I read that one. That was about a year ago, so perhaps I have not changed in that regard. lol

I had experienced a lot of subtle discouragement from a certain corner and to have my professor see me and notice me and encourage me...man that just hit me straight in the heart.

I would guess that because of what I have been through, this whole journey is a lot more emotional for me than it is for some other people.

And I will probably write more about that down the road!

  49. Congratulations - you have worked so hard to achieve this goal. It is inspiring to follow your journey.

  50. Congratulations from one R.N. to a future R.N.! You are going to be an amazing nurse. I’d love having you as my colleague.

  51. Adding in another hoodle of congratulations!! Even if you knew you'd get in, it's nice to have the moment of it happening as an opportunity to celebrate. Looking forward to hearing all about the next 2 years! (And I think I need that shirt : )

  52. Congratulations! You have worked so hard and I'm excited to see this next stage of the journey. Now, get some rest this summer!

  53. Congratulations!!!!! Going back to school as an adult is so hard and you rocked it! I know you will be an awesome nurse!

  54. Congratulations, Kirsten! We knew you'd get in. You've worked hard and in trying circumstances. You stayed the course. Pat yourself on the back and then some.

RE: Closet. I"m impressed that you can fit all seasons of your clothes in one closet.

I have to switch out between fall/winter and spring/summer.
As for keeping colors together. It really depends on your wardrobe and how much color you have. I wear almost all black (tops/bottoms, jackets/coats; yes, I am a true New Yorker) so I separate by fabric type/weight by each category.

When it comes to closet order, it's what works for you.

I love that you incorporate lettuce with your savory breakfast options. In trying to get the max number of veggies a day (which is more important for me than fruits, which I find too sugary in general), I try to add one or more to each meal. Not easy. But when I make a frittata, I include whatever veggies on hand and that works well.

I admire you doing the long boarding. I'm off an age, and already having osteoporosis, that I wouldn't even attempt it.

Am looking forward to you sharing your journey as you progress towards your RN.
It will also be very interesting to see how you feel when you are actually working as an RN. It is a very tough time for nurses everywhere in this country. They are underappreciated by management and doctors but anyone who has spent time in a hospital knows that the people who really get you through it are the nurses and aides. It's a tough job and NOT for those who can't take the territory you work in.

It's exciting to see you fulfilling your dream and goal. Go, Kristen!

  55. I am a long time reader and this is my first time posting as I could not resist saying big congrats on reaching nursing school and continuing with your life goals!

  56. Congratulations on being accepted to nursing school!

And on eating veggies for breakfast! The first thing I eat every day is vegetables and it has really helped my digestive system. Any fat or protein before veggies is not a fun situation for me. So I have a finger food breakfast of some mix of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and bell peppers of all colors with hummus. People think it's weird (and it is) but it makes for a better day for me.

  57. Congratulations from a retired R.N. (50 years) who has been a regular follower of your blog for about 10 years and has never posted a comment! I am so happy for you!

  58. Way to go, Kristen! It's going to be rigorous, but you have dealt with so much stuff to get there that you are ready!

I tend to not sort my clothes by color, but rather by fabric and sleeve length because of tending to run cold. Due to being about 2/3 of the way through losing a lot of weight, my wardrobe is really small, about 20 garments (not counting sleepwear and underwear) and it's really nice to like and wear every week everything in the closet.

  59. How exciting! Nursing is such a rewarding profession that seems to fit your personality. May your 4 semesters go smoothly.

  60. Congratulations!!!!! It's such a joy to see you being successful and hopeful for what's to come. You will touch so many lives and I'm so happy for your future patients! No doubt that your care will be a blessing to them and their families.

I, too, prefer to organize hanging clothes by type over color. I was briefly reorganizing things in the closet of one of my kiddos this morning so that when she wants 3 t-shirts to choose from it's easy to find 3 t-shirts!

Funny thing about salad: We were talking about favorite foods recently and my 4yo said that she knew that "mommy's favorite food is salad" because it's what I have for lunch every day that it's just her and I at home. I'm glad that she thinks that something so healthy is my favorite thing to eat! Ha!

  61. What a great accomplishment through your hard work. Congratulations, you deserve it. You've overcome a great deal so you should be so proud.

  62. I'm sure you already are aware and check with your accountant, of course, but (it used to be that) scrubs, stethoscopes, and other "items necessary to job" are tax deductible. Including your shoes that you wear when in your nursing role. This applies to student nurses as well. At least it used to. When my daughter was in nursing school, I was able to deduct her scrubs, stethoscope, shoes, books, *whispers* unnawears, and other things that I now can't remember. And for future reference, many facilities offer an annual reimbursement for shoes, scrubs, etc. Just in case anyone wasn't aware.

    1. PS - While congratulations are definitely in order (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! 🙂 ), I am not even remotely surprised at what you have accomplished thus far, and will continue to accomplish going forward. I knew you had this from the jump. <3

  63. I'm so happy for you about nursing school! Best of luck! I'm so excited to continue to follow your journey. 🙂

  64. Congrats!!! That is so awesome!! I’m so happy for you, you will be a great nurse. I have been a nurse quite a while and it is such a wonderful profession. So many options. For me Anatomy and Physiology was by far the hardest class in all of my nursing curriculum, so you got this!!! Enjoy celebrating!!!

  65. Congratulations on your acceptance to nursing school. It is quite the achievement considering all that you have gone thru. I read your blog everyday and I had to comment.

  66. oh my. congratulations. what an achievement. getting into nursing school. my closet is sorta arranged by color. but not rainbow. never heard of that one. and i share my tiny closet with my 12 year old son and 14 year old daughter.

with an rn you can work anywhere!!!! maybe a cruise ship. i personally don't like cruises. was only on one once in a tiny inside cabin. roomed with a stranger who wore a ton of perfume.

i wish you all the best that life has to offer.

  67. Congratulations on getting accepted to nursing school! I believe in you! Sincerely, Marivic RN

  68. I was going to suggest a hybrid rainbow clothing arrangement that I do, but that's exactly what you did. I keep my long sleeve and short sleeve shirts separate. Congrats on nursing school! I'm curious is when you get out you will still want to do labor and delivery (because there are so many areas for nurses to work in), but I know all us moms appreciate good L&D nurses! One of my best friends is a nurse for outpatient procedures and my MIL was a hospice nurse for years. Good luck!

  69. Yay, congrats!!! You will be a fantastic nurse!
Do you have any idea with which clientele you would like to work?

  70. Congratulations!! I went back to school in my 40s, while working part time and mothering kids in school. I was so, so proud of myself, and I'm proud of you! I can't wait to follow your journey. Hugs!

  71. Kristen, I am SO excited for you! I have enjoyed following along on your journey, in part because you and I are close in age and I went back to school shortly before you did. I remember crying when my first textbook arrived in the mail because I was so happy! I am looking forward to all of your future adventures, as well as my own.

  72. HAPPY DANCE! Not at all surprised because you are an incredibly hard working student/person, and I won't be surprised if you graduate top in your class! We'll all be here cheering for you!

  73. Wonderful news, congratulations!

Definitely savor this moment, it's a great achievement and I wish you well in your future studies and chosen profession. I'm sure you will be an excellent nurse and compassionate presence to many who will need it in a healthcare situation.

(Thank you for the inspiration to eat greens for breakfast, I will make a similar dressing but looking at you, rice vinegar.)

  74. I can think of nothing better than virtually accompanying and supporting you over the next 2 years. Burst away...you should be enormously proud of yourself, Kristen!

  75. Congrats on the acceptance! I've been following your blog for a little while now and I knew you'd be accepted! 🙂

  76. WELCOME TO YOUR NEW TRIBE: NURSES!!!!! I am a retired Nurse Practitioner.I went back to school at age 28 to get my nursing degree and it made my life incredibly more rich and delightful to have this career. As soon as you become a nursing student, in my opinion, you are pretty much ‘A nurse.’ You will be wearing your scrubs, doing care plans, taking care of patients!! SOOOO excited for you. You’re gonna be a GREAT nurse.
I think you have mentioned you will be entering MY specialty: Labor and Delivery, and women’s health. YAY!!!!!!!!!

I am shedding a few tears with you!

Will be following you every step of the way!!

  77. P.S. Once you start those nursing semesters, it is NOTHING like all the other prereq. semesters. It is IN THE TRENCHES and the time FLIES BY!! You are on the brink of an incredible journey and career!!!!

  78. Congratulations!!!! I remember getting that letter as a 32 mother of 5 ( youngest was 6 weeks old).
Been an ER nurse for 27 of my 30 years and cardiac nurse before that.

Scrubs are like wearing Jammie’s to work. It’s great.

    You will do so well!!!!!!

  79. Congratulations Kristen! You are going to rock nursing school and all your patients will be lucky to have you. 🙂

  80. Congratulations! Even with perfect grades, one is not guaranteed to be accepted into nursing school. This is a big accomplishment.

  81. So happy for you on your acceptance into nursing school! I am a recently retired Nursing Professor who taught pediatrics so feel free to ask assistance on anything nursing.

  82. Congratulations on your nursing school admission! You will make a wonderful nurse.
In California, nursing schools are so impacted that they use a lottery, and even good grades don't always work to gain admission. So it is really an accomplishment to get in. And part of the reason there is a dire shortage of nurses.

  83. Roy G. Biv and I wish you massive congratulations! We all know you 're gonna be a fantastic nurse!

  84. Congrats for getting into nursing school. I had the most kind nurses on Wednesday when I was at the hospital getting a cardiac catheterization done. They really made the experience so much more bearable. I know you will be like those nurses.

    1. I will do my very best! Nurses often see people on their worst days, which means there's SO much opportunity to be a blessing to someone else.

  85. Congratulations!!! It was so funny when I read you made it into Nursing School I had such a proud and happy feeling!! It was like a close friend had something so wonderful happening to her. You are so strong and have done such a great job with a lot going on. Good luck and can't wait for the next chapter for you!

  86. The heartiest congratulations to you!! I wish a bunch of us could take you out for the biggest celebration ever!!

  87. Congratulations!!!! I am a nurse. I went back to school as an adult and consider it one of the best decisions I ever made .

  93. Congratulations!! From someone who works in medicine, I can guarantee that you will rarely have a dull day at work. May God bless you in this next phase of your life!

  94. I am so happy for you Kristen! You are an inspiration. I can’t blame you at all for getting emotional. What a process to just get started not to mention doing it all through a very difficult personal situation. You have shown grace and strength every step of the way. We are all cheering for you in this next phase and can’t wait to see your progress.
Regarding the closet, I don’t really do the rainbow thing per se but I do put colors together for base pieces as well as like things together. I am a visual person so if I know I want my navy v-neck blouse and white jeans, I know right where they will be. But I am an avid cardigan wearer so I do tend to put all those together. When I think, “hmmm I might need a sweater at the library” I can see them all and then select the one I want.
I have been considering trying a longboard. Do you ever use a pole?

  95. A huge congratulations to you on your nursing school acceptance. That is fantastic!! You have worked so hard and overcome so many obstacles. I’m feeling incredibly proud of you, and I know you’re going to continue to rock it! There will undoubtedly be challenges along that road too, but your challenge-dealing muscles are primed and able. I look forward to coming along for the ride as you go through nursing school and then become an RN. Go, you!!!

  96. Wow! Congrats. I've been following you since you first appeared on The 700 Club with Pat Robertson. You've come a very long way, baby!!!

  97. Mazel Tov!!!! I am so so so happy to welcome another person into the fold of nursing. I think you will be a great nurse. And just remember what my nursing school instructor said to me: Nursing school is like labor, it hurts while you do it but the pain fades. Then you think, "That wasn't that bad."

  98. Amazing news! I think you will love it!

I went to Nursing school when my kids were in grade 7 and 4.

Best decision EVER!! I love my career!

    🙂

  99. I know... nine hundred bazillion people are congratulating you on being accepted to nursing school. But I can't not say it, too.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!! Proud of you, girl...

  100. Excellent news! I had no doubts! I am so happy for you and proud of your resilience and perseverance!

  103. That's fantastic news. Congratulations! The next two years will probably fly by - enjoy them!
Also, I'm with you on the rainbow sorting. I don't do it and I don't especially like the way it looks. In fact, when it comes to books, I positively dislike it. Cannot understand the love so many people have for this.
