I'm pretty sure that this:

broken plastic measuring spoon

is never going to happen to these (which I got for Christmas last year):

stainless steel measuring spoons

They're so durable, and then there's the sleek and stylish design...

Let's just say that they kind of make my heart sing every time I use them.

It's the small things, people.

  1. Ouch, how did you break that? My mom has Tupperware ones from the 70s that are still going strong. Of course, those are much thicker plastic than yours. My plastic ones are slowly being phased out, not so much due to breakage but because my father in law, one Thanksgiving, decided to be helpful and put them and a bunch of other non dishwasher safe items in the dishwasher and now I'm not always sure on their labeling.

This summer I picked up a set just like this ( http://www.webstaurantstore.com/4-piece-heavy-duty-measuring-spoon-set/808722.html ) at a restaurant supply store and liked them so much, I bought two more sets. Cheap, durable, accurate and dishwasher safe. Having several sets means that I can make a bunch of different things without having to stop and wash my measuring spoons.

    1. I don't know how it happened...it developed a little crack and then after a little while it totally gave way.

Those restaurant ones look great except that the wide design would bother me...the Cuisipro ones I have are awesome because they have a narrow design that easily fits inside small openings like a baking soda box.

  2. After carrying our toddler for miles after a stroller wheel bent beyond repair, we learned our lesson. Shell out for certain things so you don't have to buy them again.

  3. I'm looking to replace my measuring spoons and am wondering are the measurements on your spoons easy to read? I'm also looking to replace my measuring cups. Any recommendations for those?

  4. OMG.. I got a set of those a few years ago and LOVE them. I'm the same way..when I look at them, it makes me very happy. I feel like Martha Stewart! Ha!

  5. For liquid measuring cups, I would recommend Pyrex brand over Fireking. The Fireking ones are cheaper, but the lines and numbers have all worn off mine in less than 10 years, but the Pyrex ones are still good.

  6. This is why I switched to SS. Love it for kitchen gadgets, hate it on my appliances. Alas, they came with the house, so I'll be "hating" them for some time to come ;-). When my plastic spoons broke, I repurposed them as scoops. I have one in the powdered milk jar and one in the coffee 'cause precise measurements are less important for these items. Lately, I've been wishing for oval shaped dry measuring cups that will fit in all the jars I've accumulated for my bulk bin purchases. Hmmmm, something for the wish list. Thanks, I think!

  7. My aunt gave me a wire whisk and measuring spoons from Williams-Sonoma when I graduated high school. That was in 1992 and I STILL have and use both all the time. Quality, love it!

    1. I have nice sturdy metal measuring spoons and cups that make me so happy and will probably last me until the day I die, but all of them are circular rather than oval-shaped like yours. It's a tiny design change that makes yours easily fit into spice containers and I have absolutely no reason to justify replacing the ones I have. So I'll stick with the ones I have and figure out alternative ways to get my spice out of it's jars. 😉

  8. I like your metal measuring spoons. What I got is a plastic measuring spoons that I bought from Walmart (I think),so far I don't have any problems yet except the ring handle, it broke!

  9. Are those the Williams-Sonoma measuring spoons? We got them as a shower gift ten years ago. Love, love, love them and they still look brand new.

  10. I like how your new ones are nice and narrow. Mine are completely round, which is annoying because they don't fit into my spice canisters!

  11. I have the almost-perfect set from The Container Store.[1] The set is made of metal, includes 1/2 Tablespoon, and - here's the good part - has two bowls per spoon. One is round, the other oval. The only thing I don't like is that they're magnetic so stick to each other, but I know others who love that.

[1] I had a dollar for every time I mentioned this place, I'd be rich, rich, rich.
