Grocery Flour Shopping and Menu Plan

img_3392

Yeah…flour made up a great proportion of what I bought this week. The Frugal Girl Family does not live on flour alone, though, so I did buy a few other things. 😉

This cereal is from Shoppers…I hardly ever go there, but they had a rockin’ sale on Post cereal this week. Between a sale and some coupons, I got these six boxes of cereal for $6, and much to my surprise, at checkout I got a coupon for $5 off my next purchase(it was a Post promotion I didn’t know about). So in essence, I only paid $1 for all of that. That was totally worth the extra stop.

Then at Aldi, I spent $36.92(incidentally, I’m still sort of in shock at how much food you can buy at Aldi for so little money. I always expect my total to be more than it is).

My final stop was at Weis, where I bought a boatload of flour and a few other things. I spent $42.87 there.

Oh, and earlier in the week, I sent my husband to pick up 5 pounds of $.99/lb grapes at Safeway, so that adds another $5 to my total.

Soo, I’ve spent $85.79 this week. That’s over my $80 goal, but for the last two weeks, I’ve been at least $20 under, so I’m good. And I’m quite pleased that I bought 100 pounds of flour and still stayed so close to my budget.

Kristen, two flour questions for you:

1. How do you store it? How long does it stay good for?

2. Do you use unbleached AP flour in your bread, or do you use bread flour? Bread flour, at my grocery store, is so much more expensive than AP flour, and never on sale!

Randi-yup, it's the CI thin crust pissa recipe!

Susan-we stuff plastic Easter eggs, actually. I'm sure I'll post pictures either here or on my photo blog. :D

Zoe-you found it! Were you the one who requested that it make an appearance again? We were a little sneakier about it this time. lol

Great job on the flour purchases. I am hoping to see some good sales locally for me, since I can rarely break the .40 per pound barrier!

I share your amazement about Aldi's... Gotta Love 'Em! If your readers have questions about them or want to see the weekly deals, I try to get them posted by Friday each week at www.goodtrueandbeautiful.com

Keep up the great work!
