I've been trying The Mighty Fix. Here's what I think about it.

Good morning, readers!

mesh produce bags

This seems to be the month where we're talking about subscription services, doesn't it?   First, I wrote about how Blue Apron etc. isn't for me, (and also discussed how varying subscription services are right for varying people).

Then I got to run a special for ePantry (a subscription service I do love) and today I'm gonna share an eco-friendly subscription service that I've been trying out for the last 6 months or so.

And then after that, I think I will have no more words to say about subscription services for a while! Ha.

This past summer, Money Saving Mom ran a post about an eco-friendly subscription service called Mighty Fix.   She was offering 50% the first shipment and since I'm always up for reusable, eco-friendly items, I signed up, and I've been a member ever since.

Mighty Fix Review | The Frugal Girl

The Mighty Fix, a subscription service provided by Mighty Nest, delivers an eco-friendly, non-toxic item or two, right to your front door each month.   You pay $10 and no shipping, and the item(s) you receive are always worth $10 or more.

So, you get a bargain price on an eco-friendly item, gradually add more earth-friendly, non-toxic items to your home, pay nothing for shipping, and get a fun surprise in the mail each month.

And since eco-friendly items almost always replace disposable items, they'll save you money over time.   If you can stop buying plastic bags, paper towels, and plastic water bottles, you'll end up with a lot more money in your pocket!

life factory

Another bonus of the Mighty Fix is that you can add any other item that Mighty Nest carries to your order and get free shipping on the whole shebang.

Since I already own a fair number of eco-friendly items, I thought I might get some repeats of things I already own, but so far it's been almost all new-to-me items, and that would be even more true if you haven't got a good stock of reusable items yet.

Here's a sampling of what's been in my fixes.

One month, I got these lunchskins, which replace plastic bags. They're washable and wipeable, and the fabric is flexible enough for me to shove it into tight spaces in Mr. FG's lunchbox.

Another month, I got a stack of organic dishcloths.   I'm already an avid dishcloth user, of course, but it was great to get a fresh set, since some of mine are wearing out.

These stainless steel containers both came in one month's fix.   I like glass containers for leftovers (seeing what's in your fridge is so important!), but stainless steel is great for packing things to eat on the go, as glass is rather heavy and bulky.

And I've also gotten mesh produce bags, and beeswax wraps (which replace plastic cling wrap).

After trying Mighty Fix on my own for months, I decided I liked it enough to recommend it, and I emailed the company to see if they could put together an introductory offer for you guys.

And they said yes!

Yay!   I'm very excited to share this great deal with you guys.

So. Here's how this will work: all of you Mighty Fix newbies can subscribe and get your first fix for only $5 instead of $10.

Aaand I get to tell you what's in your fix.

Schweet.

life factory water bottle mighty fix

You'll get a 12-ounce Life Factory glass water bottle, which sells for $18 (even on Amazon! I checked), and you'll only pay $5.

And you get free shipping.

I really, really do not like using plastic water bottles, even the reusable kind, so we've used stainless steel water bottles for years here at Chez FG.

Buuuut I know some people feel like the water tastes metallic in those bottles, so if you're one of those, this bottle would be perfect for you!   Glass doesn't transfer any sort of flavors to the water, so you get a clean, pure taste.

The bottle comes with a silicone sleeve to protect the glass, and the sleeve comes all the way around the bottom of the bottle too, so you can't accidentally thunk it down too hard on the counter.   😉

silicone sleeve

All of the pieces are dishwasher safe, and you don't have to take the sleeve off the bottle before you wash it, which is pretty sweet.

So, that's the bottle you can get as your very first Mighty Fix.

When you sign up for the Mighty Fix, you are under NO obligation to continue the service...you can cancel at any time if you decide it's not for you.   There are no sneaky tricks or contracts or anything like that.

(If there were, I wouldn't be recommending Mighty Fix to you!)

MightyNest has a limited number of water bottles for this promotion, so snag yours asap!  The color of the bottle will be randomly selected from orange, turquoise, or black.

To get signed up with Mighty Fix and to get your first fix (the $18 Lifefactory 12 oz screw cap glass water bottle) for only $5, click here and use code FG2016.

Have any of you all tried The Mighty Fix?   I'd love to hear what you've thought of it thus far.

And do let me know if you run into any problems snagging this deal, and I'll make sure you get taken care of.

Disclosure: I signed up with Mighty Fix using my own money, I signed up of my own accord, and I reached out to Mighty Nest to see if we could collaborate.   So all enthusiasm for The Mighty Fix is honest and authentic...I pay for my fix each month with my own money!   Mighty Nest set me up with an affiliate account after I contacted them, which means that if you sign up through any links on my blog, you help keep the lights on around here, at no extra cost to you.

  1. I joined the Mighty Fix using the same promotion and have been very impressed with each month's "fix" - until this month's. A candle. A very nice candle, but not exactly the practical item I was expecting. I think I'll stick with it for another month or so and see if the next offerings are more of what I"m expecting.

    1. Hi Sarah! I'm curious- is it a beeswax candle? I know the regular candles are really toxic, so I would hope a company like this is sending beeswax, which actually purified the air as it burns.

    2. So far, my subscription has been s real bust. I'm very sorry I joined and customer service just defends the cheap product.

  2. I like those sandwich bags. They make your sandwiches look like they were prepared with care.

The only thing I wish was I had some when I worked. My co-workers would be jealous and the water bottle would be a great asset as well.

I do not think I have heard of this company. thanks

  3. I'm tempted to just go for the bottle and then cancel but I really don't need the bottle so I think I'll save it for someone who can use it. The same company, LifeFactory, also makes glass baby bottles that I looked into for my daughter but we decided the BPA fears were unfounded in modern baby bottles.

As someone whose pet peeve is plastic bags, I can see myself using some of these reusable products, especially the lunch bags and the produce bags. Thing is, with produce at least, a lot of it comes in plastic bags or cling film already when you buy it (at least it does at Aldi.) But anything that can reduce the

When I didn't live close enough to work to go home for lunch

    1. Gah! Hit the wrong key. 😛

What I was saying was: When I didn't live close enough to work to go home for lunch I would use Rubbermaid containers wrapped in a furoshiki. My coworkers found it odd (the Database Admin used to say I needed a long stick to put it on the end of) but I could carry it home easily enough and if it got dirty it was easy to clean.

    2. Yeah, when I shop at Aldi, I try to opt for the unpackaged produce whenever possible. But some produce is just always packaged no matter where you buy it, like grape tomatoes or berries or clementines.

      1. Right now I'm reading the latest installment in the Freakonomics books, and the authors make a compelling case for food packaging: in the end, it reduces waste because it ensures the food lasts longer and will be sold instead of ending up in the landfill, where it will emit methane as it rots (conversely, the packaging won't!). The article is on their blog, if you Google you can find it.

        1. Yes, I think this is true for things like strawberries and other delicate produce. Now, when we're talking about individually wrapped potatoes, that's a whole 'nother matter! But when the packaging really DOES protect the food, then it can be a win, I think.

        2. Not if you.. and the grocery store are composting food waste.. this logic is what keeps our landfills growing at an alarming rate..

  4. Thanks. I hadn't heard of this company before and just signed up. Perfect timing because my husband needs a new water bottle!

  5. I ordered the bottle through another blog I read. I should be getting it soon. I'm thinking about trying it out for a few months to see how I like it. I was looking on their site and liked some of what they offer, so I thought it would be an economical way to get some additional things (like sunscreen, for instance).

  6. I subscribed. Very excited about this subscription service. I'm down to one roll of paper towels every few months, mostly for draining bacon etx. I'm always looking for new resuable containers. Thank you!

    1. Great way to drain bacon, chopped meat, etc.... Is to put a colander in top of a bowl, dump in to drain, no,need for paper towels.

  7. Woohoo! I'm really excited about this subscription service.

What shipping method do they use for the free shipping? One thing I often think about is how the shipping method offsets the environmental friendliness of the product (i.e. super speedy shipping probably does more environmental damage via airplane emissions than my product can make up for).

  8. I find that with services like this I don't really need everything. I'm better off just buying the things I really like (the reusable sandwich bags, for instance, on sale....

    1. (I do like ePantry, which I just signed up for through your offer, so it's not that I'm against all subscription services.)

  9. I'd love to try this but shipping to Canada doesn't make it frugal. If anyone hears of any similar service in Canada, I'd love to hear about it!

  10. Hey Kristen... thanks for the offer, it looks quite interesting. I had to tell you that I thought of you last night. We were packing up the car after being at a friend's house all afternoon and I had no idea what time it was.The car clock read 5:00. It totally surprised me as it was still significantly light out! Woo hoo!

  11. Thank you so very much for this! I'm always looking for ways to be more environmentally friendly as well as save money. I've found that in a lot of areas they're one in the same. Not always, but a lot of the time. Not only did I join, but I promoted the school sponsorship on my alumnae Facebook page, and ordered a few of the specials to take advantage of the free shipping. Another glass bottle, the reusable salad dressing bottle and maybe a cute little toy for my infant niece. 🙂 Can't wait to see what next month brings!

  12. Thanks for the recommendation and discount. I've been looking for a subscription I could get behind (I already do ePantry on your recommendation and love it), but I wanted to do a surprise one that didn't cost much money and wasn't makeup. I think this will fit the bill. We are hoping to move in a year or so and I am trying to downsize all of our stuff. I think I might get some sippy cups on their website. If any of your readers have recommendations on this front they would be welcome!

  13. I have been wanting to try Mighty Nest and I love my life factory bottles! Thanks for sharing this Kristen. I'm glad you showed a few months of what you have received so we have an idea of what to expect.

  14. Thanks! While poking around, I actually found some other coupons -- one for $7 off with a surprise first item, and one for $10 off with beeswax wraps as the first item.

It was an interesting mental exercise: $5 for something I know I want (the water bottle), or $3 for something I may or may not want, or $0 for something that I'm totally neutral on? I went with the water bottle, but it did get me wondering about different how people make these choices.

  15. I am so excited for this! We are trying to eliminate as much of our disposable items as possible. I love that there are no hidden "gotcha's!" if you want to cancel.

  16. I joined mighty fix at the same time you did apparently! Is there any way we can get this deal if we are already a member? Our first deal wasn't as great as this one, but I really do love the subscription and get comments about the produce bags every time I use them 🙂

    1. I don't think there's a way to do this if you are already a member, unfortunately. I mean, you can probably order the water bottle through Mighty Nest, but you'd have to pay full price for it.

  17. I need a new water bottle so I just signed right up! I try to buy as few disposable products as possible and I'm not keen on the stainless steel taste so I'm excited to see what they offer!

  18. Hello, I just signed up with your link. This company looks like it has some fun products and it makes it sort of easy to be earth friendly. When i was signing up i also noticed that they will donate 15% of your future orders to a school of your choice which is awesome! Thanks for the offer 🙂

  19. I've never joined a subscription service like this before so please forgive if these are stupid questions. Will I receive something every month or do I have to order something?

    Thanks!

    1. Not a dumb question...with the Mighty Fix, you are automatically sent an item every month until you unsubscribe from the service.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

  20. I've bought some of those things (love the Kids Konserve containers!) and they all cost more than $10. Looks like a good deal, except that I don't really want to get stuck with things that I may not be able to use. I'll have to think about this.

BTW, I use those very same mesh produce bags as "nutsmilk" bags to make my own nut and coconut milks (much more frugal and healthy than buying them) and to wring the water out of grated zucchini and potatoes before cooking. They work great and are very easy to wash. (Husband ruined my favorite linen tea towel wringing the water out of grated potatoes--grrrrr!).

  21. Well, I went ahead and subscribed to The Mighty Fix (and the code worked great, thank you!), and I'm excited about it! I also ordered a skirt from Schoola and was so inspired by the big bag they sent in my package that I immediately stuffed it with nice things to send back to them. I'm enjoying your blog so much. I used to be an occasional reader, but now I'm an every-day reader 🙂

  22. Ok, here's the thing: there are a TON of these monthly subscription things out there. And I've never been interested in any of them. I've even been offered money to review them on my blog/social media, and I always say no. But this one?! I just signed up! I can't believe something so cool exists! Thanks for sharing with us. And thanks for the fun coupon code!

  23. I'm on my 3rd month. Month 1- Bee Wrap (2 sizes) interesting concept. Month 2- 5 produce bags gave as a gift which was a hit! (and will order for myself) 3- Dishcloths (6!) I've been a sponge girl but I think I may switch permanently. I love that I can share items with friends & family when there is more than one item so we all get to try. I think the value is there & the items are great quality!

  24. I'm very interested in this service! I currently use mainly ball jars, pyrex and reuse kombucha bottles as water bottles (16 oz and very thick glass - I keep a bunch in the fridge at once so it's easier to get my water intake). Has anyone ever cancelled this service? A lot of subscription services I've seen that had great deals were near impossible to cancel, so I'm a bit weary of any subscriptions.

    1. This is not one of those services...there's no smoke and mirrors or anything like that. It's a small company and they care about their customers being happy.

I haaate the services that make it an enormous pain in the rear to cancel. It's so short-sighted when companies do that. How do they expect to build long-term loyalty and a good reputation?

  25. I have been a Mighty Fix subscriber for a while now. Some of the items I LOVE (reusable mesh produce bags (to go with the ones I already had!), the lunch bags, the metal lunch containers, a to-go coffee mug, the dish cloths), some I'm kinda MEH on (bug bite cream, sunscreen), and the candle was by far my least favorite. But overall, I really like the idea of the Mighty Fix. Even when it's only so-so, at least I get to try something new and see how I feel about it. If I love it then I can eventually buy more to replace (insert non-reusable item here). What I want to know is, how can people who are already Mighty Fix subscribers get their hands on that nifty water bottle?! 🙂

    1. The candle was probably my least favorite too...it arrived after I'd already written this post up for publication, so that's why I didn't include it in my list. It's not a bad candle, it's just less practical than I prefer.

I think you can order the bottle directly from Mighty Nest, but I'm not sure you can get a discount on it.

  26. I don't remember how I originally heard of this site, but I love it! Mighty Nest is great.....and one thing that has not been mentioned is that there is the option to include your child's school (or any school in your community) to receive a percentage of each of your purchases...not only are you being eco-friendly but you're giving back right in your community.

  27. Just a short comment - The school where I taught was able to sign up a year ago + through Mighty Nest and all you have to do is enter their code information and the PTA receives a % of each sale. Fundraising can be a hassle so every bit helps.

  28. I signed up for this so I could get the water bottle. I got it in the mail just before my week long mission trip, so I took it with me. It broke on the first day when I dropped it while trying to pay for my lunch. I went to the website and there is nothing they will do to refund me or get me a new bottle. Now I'm out $5 and I can't even get another bottle for that price.

  29. I signed up for Mighty Fix last week and received my first item a few days after. I received 2 of the Bee's Wraps (size medium and large) and I am in love. Some people don't care for their scent but I find it quite soothing. I will be ordering more of them the next time I have a coupon. Thanks so much for the recommendation to join the Mighty Fix because otherwise I probably wouldn't have subscribed. I value your opinion on all things frugal!

    1. I also recived the bee wraps first, hated them, never use them. Was thinking of canceling, but the rest of my stuff is great, hope I never get the water bottle I owen zillions aready, and glass only breaks with my kids. Plus I have to watch my orders now febuary was never delivered, I knew it was miss delivered they do that alot around here. Still love it hubby keeps asking to hurry up and order more veggy bags to use in the trailer. Worth the little it costs and money goes to my kid's school love that, makes a bigger order less upseting.

  30. Tried MighyFix for 2 months and I'm done with them. The Bees Wrap smells so horrible that I sent it back right away. Definitely not a fan of that stuff. And then I found out that their MightyFixes are unreturnable/unrefundable, which is not posted anywhere on their website or in the MightyFix info.... Definitely not a fan of this company, won't be ordering or continuing with the subscription service from them.

    1. I'm so sorry that you haven't been happy with your experience! Did you get the stretchy silicone lids in this month's fix? I thought those were pretty cool.

(I'm on the fence about the Bee's Wrap...I'm wondering if if maybe works better in the summertime, when the wax would be softer. I had trouble getting it to stick to the pan in the winter.)

    2. Emilie - We're sorry to hear that you're not thrilled with the MightyFix. We have many very happy customers using the Bee's Wrap, though we understand your dislike for the scent. We do state our no return policy here in the FAQ section for your reference: http://mightynest.com/the-mighty-fix
      Our best,
      MightyNest

  31. I was on the fence about signing up for Mighty Fix, but I just ran across your promotion while reading reviews from others. I would love to get the water bottle! Fingers crossed that they will still honor the promo code.

  32. I was a member of the subscription service for 4 months. I received dryer balls, bees wax cover, produce bags, and cotton dish cloths. I like my micro fiber cloths better than cotton but that is just me. The cloths are rather small whether you like cotton or not. I have never used the bees wax cover because I use glass containers with lids. People seem to like the covers though. The dryer balls are good for towels and things. When I need to use a dryer sheet I still use the balls, and cut a dryer sheet in half. So that's a win.
I liked their add-on program until it comes to returns. I ordered a set of silicone ice trays without reading any reviews. Turns out ice does NOT pop out of these trays. Each cube needs to be individually ejected. And they do NOT eject easily. Honestly, even allowing the ice to melt slightly did not help.
The girl who took my return was very nice but said she could only issue a site credit because they had been used. Well of course they were used. How else would I know they were awful. And I had to pay to ship them back. Even though she couldn't resell them. Very disappointed and cancelled my subscription.

  33. I know this is an older post, but I wanted to ask if you were still subscribed to the Mighty Fix? If so, would you mind updating the items you've received since then? If not, may I ask why?

I'm considering enrolling but I'm not sure if it's for me. My husband and I are newlyweds with no children.

  34. I signed up with mighty fix christmas day before i saw this article. So far i am very pleased with the things i have gotten. So far i have suprised recieved wool balls, the bees wax wrap, and reusable produce bags. I have also purchased additional items. I bought my youngest daughter the nice stainless steel silverware sets and also the floor cleaner that doesnt need to be rinsed and smells really good. This mo th i added the laundry detergent wich is cheaper then the arm and hammer i buy now, and if you have a he washer you only need 1 tablespoon of detergent!!!! When i signed up i paid for the whole yr and got 2 months for free.

  35. I forgot to add, you can choose a school, and 15% of your additional orders get donated to local schools near you!!! I of course chose my daughters elementry school.

  36. I subscribed to Mighty Fix about 4 months ago and so far I'm very happy with what I have received. It's nice to have a surprise in my mail, instead of bills, that will also make my home more eco-friendly. The lunch bags, replacing zip lock bags, are excellent. I may have to order a few more! My recycling center does not take zip lock baggies, so every time I have to use one, I feel guilty thinking of it sitting in a garbage dump and not decomposing for over 10 years or possibly ending up in a lake or stream and hurting a bird or other such animal. I will keep using the subscription!

  37. I was skeptical about trying this but thought it would be fun to get a surprise in the mail each month for a low price. I have only been a member for two months but have loved the stainless steel containers I got for the first month and the three dryer balls for the second. Do you know if you will always get an item you have not received before? I plan to continue and appreciate the blog post and all the helpful comments.

  38. Is the code FG2016 still good? I just found this post and would love to sign up, but since it is now 2018, I thought I would see if you have an updated code! Thanks!

  39. I have been a member for about 6 mos now. I love it. No problems whatsoever, I even talked to them about not wanting a certain type of product, because I would not use it, and they said fine. Good company, good products!

  40. Except The lunch skins and the dish towels are made in China so they say it's eco friendly but who really knows.

  41. I just got my first fix today. It is a silicone bag. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but I am disappointed. I expected something more similar to the water bottle or the cute sandwich bags. The reviews for the bags are pretty split. Some love it and some hate it. I will have to reserve judgement, but I wish I had seen this post earlier to ensure I got something nicer.

  42. I joined mighty fix almost a year ago and I have LOVED everything sent to me!!

    Beeswax wrap
    Charcoal bag for odors
    Steel straws
    Reusable produce bags
Collapsible freezer to oven durable ‘plastic’
    Traveling utensils
    Swedish dishcloths
    Organic dishcloths
    All purpose home cleaner
    Miso air purifying samples
    Reusable lunchskins

  43. I just started getting mighty nest and so far so good! I actually can’t wait to get a surprise once a month! I’m waiting on my second surprise for August!
