Two days left. Dear me.

I know lots of readers are out of town and out of their regular blog-reading routine, and I've got plenty to keep me busy in the next couple of days as well.

homemade German pfeffernusse cookies

So, it might be a bit quiet around the blog for the rest of this week, depending on how my days go.

I thought that I might selfishly use today's post to help me get my to-do list checked off, though. Somehow, telling you all what I need to get done makes me move faster!

Here's what I'd like to accomplish today and tomorrow:

  • wrap presents
  • stuff stockings
  • put together a music notebook for the Christmas Eve service
  • make pfeffernusse  (I made the dough, so, half credit on this one)
  • bake some kind of goody for the neighbors
  • go grocery shopping (womp, womp)
  • take Lisey and Sonia out to buy a present for two friends
  • modify Lisey's new dress (I need to make it narrower, which I'm pretty good at. I've had lots of practice skinny-fying things. ;))
  • pick up crickets for Joshua's gecko
  • make caramel monkey bread to put in the fridge for Christmas morning

And of course, I need to do the usual sort of stuff like laundry and feeding my family.

(Tonight: bacon quesadillas.   Tomorrow night: clam chowder.)

I'll update this post throughout the day as I cross things off.

What are you up to these last few days before Christmas?

  1. Mostly baking. There are a few families at church we give loaves of homemade bread at Christmas, and then I have to bring rolls to Christmas dinner at my in-laws'. (I made the glazed honey pan rolls from your site for the first time at Thanksgiving. I've never got so many comments on the rolls before. Everyone asked about the glaze. I think I'll do a repeat for Christmas.) I have a cheesecake to make, too. Aside from baking, I have to do the stockings, but I have the goodies all separated into bags for each person ready to stuff in on Christmas Eve. The other thing I need to do, which doesn't sound incredibly Christmas-y, is get ahead on laundry so I don't have to worry about that for a few days. Laundry around here is never-ending.

  2. The list seems long here...
    -school this morning, ugh
    -seafood dinner with my sister
-massive smorgasbord with family on Thursday
    -wrap presents, not my specialty!
-prep cinnamon rolls for Christmas Day along with other edibles
    -relax???

Hope you have a lovely week!!!

    1. Forgot to add visit with my grandfather and finally send out our holiday cards:) also a run to the local chocolate store sounds good!

  3. Yes, dear me!

    Finish cards (!)
    Mail them?
    Bake the last gingerbread cookies
Spice the meat for Christmas dinner
Figure out which fancy dessert to make
Probably get groceries as a result...
    Finish wrapping
Make sure stocking goodies are fair between children
    Return library books
Pick up new pants for son while consignment shop is 50% off

It does help to tell someone else!

    Merry Christmas to all.

  4. My Christmas gifts are wrapped, and the one toy needing assembly is done. That said, I still need to buy a few more stocking stuffers and grocery shop. I have no desire to go to the store which is why these two items are the only ones left on my Christmas to-do list.

  5. My list looks very similar except for the crickets...yuck I am not sure how much of it I will get done. Hannah came down with some stomach bug overnight and I am washing lots of towels.

  6. Thank you for this post and to everyone else for commenting. It helps to know my to do list isn't any longer than anyone else's. Happy Holidays to All!

  7. When you write a "to-do" list, you can feel so much more accomplished as you cross things off! It also helps me to be more focused, since when I have so much to do, I tend to feel scattered. My "to-do" list:

    1) Work a half day today (which has it's own to-do list);
    2) take my nephew to lunch;
    3) stop at the bank;
    4) shop at Aldi for some last minute ingredients so I can...
    5) make a taco salad, sweet potatoes, green salad, green beans, and apple crisp for Christmas Eve and Day celebrations; and
    6) finish wrapping gifts. I got a good start on this last night.

Bacon quesadillas sound awesome! They might be on our menu tonight too!

  8. Here's what I need to do:

1.) START wrapping. Yep, haven't even started.
2.) Finish shopping, I have 3 gifts left to get.
3.) Bake 5 sets of goodies because we have 7 places to go on Christmas! I'm already stressed about this with a 2 year old, but I keep telling myself to be grateful that we have so much family to see!
4.) Figure out our clothes for Christmas. Our families take LOT of pictures. I want to look decent because I'll steal some and they'll double as family pictures 🙂
5.) Clean out my car to fit all of the Christmas gifts I know my daughter will receive.

I have other non-Christmas related things to do, but they're taking a back seat!

    1. I hadn't started wrapping either. Ahem.

And oh my HEAVENS. 7 places in one day? I would not do well with that. We decided even two places on Christmas was too much when our kids were little. So much upheaval for little ones.

    2. YIKES !!!!! I'm so glad I went & was reading everyone's List
Yes I Need to VACUUM OUT my Mini Van & WASH IT !!!
      & dust & Tudy House

  9. I have so much left to do that it feels incapacitating.
I'm at work today and tomorrow. Beyond finishing stuff here, I still need to:
    -Buy 5 last-minute gifts (At least I know what/where I'm getting them)
-Bake cookies for santa (dough made, just needs to be rolled out)
-finish putting a few last ornaments on the tree
-Hang stockings "by the chimney with care".
    -possibly other things. No idea.

  10. Caramel Monkey Bread here too! (Thanks for sharing your recipes. 🙂 )
    Finish wrapping gifts.
Buy a couple of stocking stuffers.
    Clean the house!
Bake bread for our Christmas Eve fondue dinner.
Finish addressing Christmas cards (hubby addressed most of them for me!)

Better get off my computer and get moving for the day!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Kristin. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

  12. lovely list! You go Girl!
I'm packing to fly tomorrow to Tucson, the family drove there last Friday. I'm getting anxious,..... good thing the Lord is with me.

  13. My turn!
I'm leaving town tommorow morning to join my family. Until then....
    - Do dishes
    - Finish cleaning up the house
    - Pack my bags
    - Work on a project for 1 or 2 hours

Well, I felt a little overwhelmed but now seeing this list I'm not sure why! Not like I have a lot to do.

I wish you, your family and your readers a Merry Christmas. I'm unplugging until the 28th so see ya!

  14. I'm giving you my entire list since I've had a productive day so far.

Dr appt, trip to farmers mArket, pick up pictures at Wal-Mart, gas in car, wrote out checks to pay borough bill and taxes, mail taxes, drop Boro bill off at Boro office, clean off kitchen table, clean out, organize purse, laundry (still in process), pick up child from early dismissal, drop neighbor child off at home (added to the list in the pick up line), filled stocking, look at Dollar store for pretend baby bottle/diaper bag for gift, make supper (in progress)

Still to do: wash dishes, vacuum, label pictures, organize and gather items for tomorrow, finish supper and laundry, enjoy rest of the first day of my Christmas vacation.

    Merry Christmas K and family!!

  15. I just checked back and looks like you've finished most of your list....yea for you! Tonight I have to prep for work luncheon tomorrow, make doggie treats & put together a gift basket (items already purchased). Oh, and shop for a few items for Christmas dinner and pick up Rx.....
Merry Christmas to you and your family! I've really enjoyed getting to "know" you through your blog this year!

    1. It's going pretty well! Mostly just baking stuff left, which I think I'll knock out tomorrow.

So glad you've enjoyed my blog this year!

  16. I am also working all week except for Christmas day and so I broke down a list by day, starting last Saturday, in an attempt to get everything done. I am only a little behind so I feel pretty good. Still to do:

    Tonight:
Bake 2 more types of cookies for neighbors/coworkers and put together tins.
Dust the house (have been working on chores pretty steadily to so it isn't a big project)
    Fold load of laundry
    Wrap last 2 gifts.

Christmas Eve (hope we are released early from work but not sure yet!):

Our main celebration is Christmas day so I will mostly be prepping Christmas Eve.
Make graham cracker crust for chocolate silk pie, prepare stuffing for stuffed pork loin, and make dip, and any other do-ahead tasks I can think of for Christmas dinner.
Set up "serve yourself" drink table.
Deliver cookies to neighbors and friends.
Swing by a friends house for a quick hello at their celebration.
Vacuum and swish and swipe the bathroom

    Not bad, all things considered.

  17. In between wasting all kinds of time in front of the computer, I am catching up on chores and cleaning so I can rest and enjoy the next couple of days with family here. I think being under the time gun is a great motivator - you really don't know your own strength until! Today I baked cookies, finished up Christmas shopping, cleaned both bathrooms, mopped, ran a load of laundry, and went to a doc appt. I am SuperMom, hear me roar!

  18. Kristen, would you consider updating us to what certain folks received, how you planned those out, and any deals you found? I'm always so impressed with what you choose for your kids (quality vs. quantity, needs vs. wants), and it gives me inspiration to give and shop smarter!

  19. We usually drive an hour away to my parents house and spend a night or two to have time to hang out...Due to some last minute issues with our dog/lack of boarding, we decided we'd go to their house on Christmas Eve, we'd host Christmas Day (they're bringing half the food) and then we may go back up Boxing Day. Which means today has been a scurry of getting the house "entertaining" ready, not just "clean before we leave" ready. 🙂 And frosting cookings. So my list for the last 3 days has been LONG, but happily its getting shorter. I'm down to wrapping gifts (not that many this year, we opted for one big family gift) and folding all the laundry I've been doing...and making an apple pie. Well, Clean out the Fridge was on my list but I think I've given up on that one.

Do you wrap your stocking gifts or just put items in there? I was surprised to see "Stockings Stuff" already off your list, ours are hanging and I stuff them Christmas Eve when kids are in bed.

    1. I don't wrap anything in the stockings...it all just goes straight in there! Ours are attached to our railing with string and ribbon, so I usually take them down a bit early and stuff them. They wouldn't stay hanging up super well with all the stuff in them and I don't like leaving it to the last minute if I can help it.

  20. It's Christmas Eve already here and I'm at work (although we get to finish at lunchtime yay!). We're flying to visit my family for ten days this afternoon, so things have been busy getting ready for that. Luckily my boyfriend finished up work yesterday, so I've left him a big to-do list for the day, including:

    Buying crayfish for my turtle
Setting up a timer for the turtle light and another one for the garden hose
Setting up the tent in the yard to make sure all the bits are there (we're going camping for New Years)
Eating up the leftover food in the fridge
Dropping off some plants that need a bit of extra care to a friend
Taking the decorations off the live tree and putting it back outside

We exchanged our gifts last night, and wrapped most of the presents for my family then. When I get home I plan to finish packing, unplug all the appliances and hand-pollinate the pumpkins in the garden. Then it's off to the airport 🙂

I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas 🙂

  21. Yay you got alot done today!!!! tomorrow clean the house & make a cheesecake & hashbrown potatoes, & maybe a couple other odds & ends. I do my baking as early in the month as possible & freeze(I do have another freezer besides just my fridge one:)) also need to drop off neighbor gifts. So excited my day is not jampacked. Wrapping, stockings, most of my food, my parents & my hubbys parents Christmas gatherings all done. (we each have brothers that live out of state & they already came in last weekend.) opps just remembered I need to finish up some cards. still not too bad......saving laundry till sat. Merry Christmas

  22. I had yesterday (12/23) off of work and spontaneously met a good friend for a luxuriously long lunch. It was so very, very good to take some time for myself in the middle of the day - that never happens!

We've kind of opted out of a lot of Christmas this year; I didn't even get around to buying a wreath. I'll bake cookies this afternoon, we'll go to church with a bunch of friends this evening, and have a quiet day tomorrow. Oh, and we're expecting CRAZY storms here in the South! It's thundering and lightning as I type.

  23. Well, I'm celebrating Christmas with my mom and my brother on New Year's Day this year. This is my current to-do list:

    - Weave in ends on crocheted shawl
    - Weave in ends on crocheted hat and scarf set
    - Weave in ends on crocheted slippers
    - Weave in ends on crocheted fingerless gloves
    - Wash yard sale enamelware coffee pot
    - Wrap all gifts
    - Make buckeyes

Ooops! Haha. Luckily it really doesn't take THAT long to weave in all those ends! 😉
