Recently, a company called Tomons emailed to see if I would do a giveaway for them.   Among other things, they make sturdy wood and metal desk lamps with a fun, classic/retro style.

I knew Joshua would really enjoy having one of these lamps, and I thought one of you would too!

The Scandinavian desk lamp comes unassembled, but it takes about 5 minutes and very little skill to put it together, so don't let that scare you. 😉

All of the parts, down to the nylon-coated cord, are simple yet sturdy, so I think this lamp will serve Joshua well for lots of years.

Since there are three points of adjustment, you can make this lamp fit your space perfectly. And since the joints can be tightened by hand, the lamp stays just the way you like it.

My only quibble with the design is that the switch is on the cord rather than on the lamp itself.   It'd be slightly more convenient to have an on/off switch right on the lamp itself.   But this doesn't seem to be bothering Joshua at all, so take that complaint with a grain of salt. 😉

And I love the classic, retro look of the lamp.   It reminds me a bit of the Pixar lamp, and it fits perfectly with Joshua's style.

Tomons sells this design on Amazon ($36.99)and they also have a similar swing arm lamp ($34.99), which comes in black, white, and a delightfully retro shade of green.

One of you will get a Scandinavian desk lamp for free, though!

  1. Love the old Polaroid. I was a "Polaroid girl" back in the day, around 1977. I love when something as simple as a photo brings up such fond memories.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Scandinavia meets Steam Punk = My Husband's Style! Would be great on his Swedish Grandfather's desk he uses in his office. Thanks for letting us know about it!

  3. Hi Frugal Girl,

Love your blog. Get it every morning at work while listening to NPR for 8 hours.

I'd be thrill to have this for my pseudo-home office (corner of kitchen table , crates, books)!

  9. I love this lamp! I just started working remotely and have been on the look out for a lamp for my work desk. Thanks for the review! I found your blog a few weeks ago and have loved it. My husband and I just moved to a new city and are just beginning to start our newly married life. We never had anyone teach us about setting a home or being frugal/resourceful. You have been a blessing!

  10. Okay I am going to be tacky and say "pick me, pick me" cause I was just telling the universe this week that I need a lamp seriously and the universe always provides and hopefully you are the universe today.
Also something I have been meaning to say, I am not religious at all, not sure what I believe and I still enjoy your blog tremendously. Thanks for not cramming anything down our throats. Marinell

  11. My son would love this lamp. His broke at the beginning of the school year and we've had a hard time finding a replacement. He would love this!

  21. I've been bit so subtly hinting at my husband to get me a desk lamp so it would be awesome to win a quality lamp !

  24. Love this lamp! It would go really well in my house, I have a farmhouse industrial look going on 🙂 cool giveaway. I hope Joshua loves it!

  25. I really need this lamp in my life! My husband hates my current reading lamp...it drives him crazy and shines a glare on the tv (so he says:) . This would help save our marriage. LOL!! Thanks for a great giveaway!

  26. That's a pretty cool looking lamp. I'm redecorating my living room and this would be a great addition to my desk.

  27. This is my first time on your site and first post I saw! Maybe it will give me luck for this giveaway? =) Thank you for the opportunity!

  28. I am in the need of a new lamp for my desk and I think that this one would fit the bill. I also loved seeing your carved pumpkins. I continued to carve pumpkins long after the boys were out of the house.

  29. Thanks for your review. After some months of use, are you still satisfied with that lamp or are there some additional comments you would like to make? Is the lamp strong enough to be used with heavier economic bulbs? What is the maximum height for the bulb so it does not come out of the lampshade?

    1. The lamp is definitely strong enough to hold any bulbs that fit the recommended wattage.

If you'd like the bulb to not stick out past the lamp shade, I'd recommend looking for a bulb like a ceiling fan light bulb. Those are typically shorter.
