Every week, I post a picture of the food that has gone bad over the last seven days. Why do I do this? Because in March of 2008, I finally got fed up with the amount of food I was wasting, and I thought that showing my waste to other people would motivate me to use up my food instead of wasting it. Because this often embarrassing practice was so helpful for me, I invited other bloggers to join me in posting their food waste photos, and Food Waste Friday was born.
-some brown rice that was stinky
-some cucumber slices that apparently froze. After that, they were gross!
-a bit of pasta salad (that whole bowl isn’t full, I promise)
-an awful lot of spinach
The spinach got shoved into a cold part of the fridge and froze. Then it thawed in another part of the fridge and started to smell like stinky feet.
And I don’t eat things that smell like stinky feet, thankyouverymuch.
I did use some frozen half and half in my hot cross buns.
I also froze bananas to use in smoothies and ate a lot of leftovers.
Ooh, and I have to tell you too that I bought 4 kiwifruit last week and accidentally put them in the freezer.
(They were in the same bag with the ice cream and I was in a hurry so I tossed the whole thing into my chest freezer.)
I thought they might be totally ruined when they thawed, but they were still sort of edible. I cut them into chunks, froze them, and have been adding them to smoothies.
So, despite what my photo would have you understand, I’m not a total food waste disaster this week.
