(WIS, WWA = What I Spent, What We Ate)
It’s not dark at dinnertime anymore! Which means I am much more inspired to pick up my camera before we eat.
And that means that there are actually some current dinner photos in this post.
What I Spent
I got a $25 Hungry Harvest box, and then we spent $108 on other groceries. That means March has been a pretty quiet month on the grocery spending front.
Normally I’d expect to spend $600 for four weeks, but my total for March is $527.
Annnnd that means I’m expecting to have some higher weeks in April!
March Grocery Spending
Week 1: $101
Week 2: $183
Week 3: $110
Week 4: $133

Year-to-Date Monthly Spending
January: $552
February: $590
March: $527
What We Ate
Saturday
Mr. FG and I did a takeout date night and tried a new-to-us local spot and the girls fended for themselves.
Sunday
This is our night we usually try to support a local restaurant by getting takeout; this week, we got poke bowls from a local shop.
I’ve never had a poke bowl before, but I got a spicy one that was really good.
Monday
Roasted chicken plus roasted baby potatoes plus (oddly) grapes. Which are an odd accompaniment to chicken, but it’s what I had in the fridge!
Tuesday
I made flatbread pizzas, using flatbreads leftover from the food pantry. They gave us some huge pepperoni as well, so I used that on one of the pizzas.
I topped the other one with BBQ sauce and leftover chicken from Monday.
Wednesday
I made burrito bowls, at Zoe’s request (chicken, rice, lettuce, cheese, etc).
These are pretty much a one-dish meal, but we had some applesauce on the side as well.
Thursday
I made a green salad with chicken and skirt steak, with French bread on the side.
(photo at the top of this post)
Friday
Today is Lisey’s birthday! She has requested wings and fries from her favorite local spot, plus a chocolate cheesecake (made by me).
Sonia obviously can’t eat cheesecake, so I will probably make a pan of Rice Krispie treats in addition to the cheesecake.
LDA says
I spent $0 this week & we ate
– hamburgers & French fries
– ham, scalloped potatoes & corn
– takeout hoagies & cheesecake
– crab & shrimp bisque, French bread
– chicken stir fry
– beef roast, roasted potatoes, carrots & onions, gravy
There’s 1 one day I just can’t remember.
Lorraine says
I spent $95 at Trader Joe’s last week, which was quite a bit more than my usual budget but I splurged on some things because, hey, it’s Trader Joe’s! (Chocolate mousse eggs, fresh flowers, interesting cheeses? Yes, please)
Last Saturday I had pizza from a new local restaurant.
Sunday was cider chicken, half a baked potato and steamed asparagus.
Monday I had a tuna/egg salad sandwich and fruit.
Tuesday was chicken tacos
Wednesday I just grated on assorted leftovers and snacky things in the fridge.
Thursday was international waffle day so obviously I had to make a belgian waffle and eat it with fruit and bacon.
Friday I went out to dinner with a friend. I had steak, broccoli and mashed potatoes.
J. says
We had loads of fresh fruit and veg delivered, that will last us at least two weaks (you start eating the leaf veg and end with the root ones, store in a cool dry place).
Other than that we got some meats and herbs, and home delivered groceries.
What we ate I do not really recall except one very good meal (home made curry) and one excellent one (bake tray sweet potato with lemon, garlic and feta cheese, eaten with grilled green asparagus and sautéed wild spinach). The latter was a new recipe and turned out to be a feast for eye and palate!
Tracey says
Spent $68 this week, including the ingredients to make dinner and dessert to take to a friend who received her second shot and was feeling a bit under the weather. Made it kid friendly so everyone would enjoy it and she would not have to cook.
Here’s what we ate:
Saturday – Leftover meatloaf, garlic smashed potatoes and pineapple.
Sunday – Reuben sandwiches used up the rest of the St. Patrick’s Day corned beef. They were topped with homemade coleslaw and homemade Thousand Island dressing ( I discovered last minute I didn’t have any and googled a recipe. Luckily I had all the ingredients). We had pickles and steak fries on the side.
Monday – Eggs, bacon and toast.
Tuesday – Pizza bagels topped with cheese ham and pineapple.
Wednesday – Pasta and meatballs in homemade sauce.
Thursday – French toast.
Friday – Fish fry and Guinness at a local pub.
Kim S. says
I wish on my dinner this week list was a poke bowl. I really love them. This kind of meal always makes me think I won’t get full and then I am. And so happy. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Jenni says
Speaking of Rice Krispie Squares, I had a Frugal Fail this week. I had several almost-finished boxes of cereal that weren’t budging. So, clever Frugal Me bought some mini marshmallows and mixed them in a pot on the stove with butter and a mish-mash of old cereal (Shreddies, Rice Krispies, Honey Nut Cheerios, Pumpkin Spice Cheerios). Once ready to eat from the pan, my husband put a square up to his mouth took a bite and…. silence. The cereal was both too stale and too sweet in the “Mish-Mash Squares” format. I had to chalk that one up to “learning from my mistakes”. Oh well : )
JEG says
WIS Aldi $35, Shaw’s $44, coffee $22
No meat today because I have my freezer. The fruit and vegetables add up. Some cereals were special customer prices, so I got them. My plan is to go through the pantry to see a food bag I can make up for the food pantry this week.
Prices are up. But we are fortunate that we can afford to buy our own food.
Yes, my coffee is expensive but 2 lbs every 2-3 weeks supporting a small business, local roaster, much less expensive than going to the coffee shop daily.
At Aldi, I picked up a couple of things for Easter fun with kids.
WWA–Again I managed to eat from our own pantry. No eating out yet.
Fri: I bought nice rolls. I made fish sandwich for husband and I had a crabcake with fries.
Sat: Earlier in the day when I offered what was in the freezer, my husband did not respond. So I took nothing out because I was covered. I roasted up all of the beets in the drawer and I made a kale, raisin, pine nut tart. I found 5 stuffed clam shells from Aldi in the freezer, so we used them up. I don’t think I would buy that brand again—kind of bland. I made him a romaine & tomato salad and me a romaine, beet & mixed nut salad.
Sun: I offered to cook dinner but my daughter had tips out. She said I could make sides. It is 62 degs, first full day of spring. Calls for a Caesar pasta salad with raw carrots, side of beets, maybe some string beans—all from ‘fridge and freezer. I also made an orange quick bread because I had the ingredients to use up. It called for walnuts (I would have used mixed nuts for me) but I am using cranberries (as someone else mentioned) because the grandkids are not really fond of nuts yet—Although they like me.
Mon: Chicken & pasta with marsala sauce, green beans (from the ‘fridge & freezer).
Tues: Fish sandwiches and fries, and beets, feta, nut salad
Wed: Pancakes, clementines
Thurs: Swedish meatballs and baked potato,
Fri: Naan pizza, salad—beets, nuts, feta for me, and tomatoes and feta for him. Fruit & yogurt “banana” split (no ice cream) for dessert tonight.

Happy Birthday, Lisey! That’s a very nice pic of her and your sweet kit-kat! This week we ate:
Monday – We had our dinner from Friday (which we cheated on and had a burger instead) because Sunday we cheated and ate Mexican food out (:
Tuesday – Grilled Shrimp on Chopped Salad, grilled okra
Wednesday – Stuffed Bell Peppers, skillet sweet potatoes
Thursday – BBQ Pork Chops, with some(freezer) white beans from last week, topped with peppers and green onion and cooked in my crockpot – SO GOOD – plus some creamy corn
Tonight – Chicken Piccatta Meatballs, skinny mashed potatoes, green beans
Saturday – Out to eat – going to go eat seafood
Sunday – TBD
Natalie J says
Sunday: Pepperoni pizza pasta (so good, and a good amount of veggies!)
Monday: Curry chicken salad sandwiches with fruit on the side
Tuesday: Slow cooker sweet fire chicken on rice
Wednesday: Leftovers
Thursday: Supposed to be pasta puttanesca, but we still had a ton of leftovers
Friday: Probably still leftovers. We didn’t realize how big the recipes at the beginning of the week were going to turn out!
Rachel B says
Saturday – Homemade pizza, I think. It’s all sort of hazy.
Sunday – Husband and eldest kiddo cooked marinara and elbow macaroni. I didn’t have to cook, so it was delicious!
Monday – pancakes and fruit for dinner. Mine super whole grain and healthy. Tasty, but less grainy for the kids and hubs. Oldest tried blueberries in her pancakes for the first time – she said she’d prefer it if they weren’t whole – like a puree. Might try that out next time.
Tuesday – Sauerkraut and sausage with mashed potatoes and apple slices for the fam; mashed potatoes with braised napa cabbage for me (cabbage was “Meh”).
Wednesday – “Snacky dinner” for the kids (apple slices, cucumber slices, cashews, and some type of chippy thing); gnocchi for my husband and leftover mashed potato patties with a salad for me.
Thursday – carryout pizza for the kids and my parents, who
watched the kids while my husband and I got our first Covid shot (!!!!!!!). I had cereal after we got the kids to bed.
Tonight – totally and completely up in the air. Possibly scrounged leftovers with a salad for my husband and me, and something as exciting as oatmeal for the kiddos. Perhaps Snacky Dinner, round two.

Happy Birthday to Lisey!!
Only ate out once last week — rest of meals are at home/brought to work
Friday — Treat night at our little local Mexican joint — eating outside on the sidewalk and enjoying the world going by. Best chicken flautas!
Saturday –Hot dogs, beans, broccoli (dogs and beans — how Bostonians celebrate Saturday
Sunday – Dirty Cauliflower rice, using up discounted and rapidly aging cauli, celery, peppers, and discounted turkey from the freezer. Pretty decent.
Monday — ?? Pretty sure it was big salad and chicken/ Cuz it almost always is.
Tuesday — Leftover chicken and big salad.
Wednesday — Big salad for both of us — egg and sauteed asparagus for me; last of hotdogs rolled in a low carb wrap for him.
Thursday — Turkey tacos, using up frozen discounted “taco-seasoned turkey,” and big salad
Tonight — Treat! Some kind of takeout or outside dining if we can still find it. California has opened up all the restaurants so many pop-up patios are disappearing. Anyway, something cheap, tasty, and not remotely healthy. Happy Friday, all!

Happy Birthday, Lisey! (My birthday is tomorrow; we’re having veggie burgers and fancy cupcakes. I always think of you on your birthday because it’s so close to mine!)

We spent $117.89 at the grocery store this past weekend. Not all of that was food, as we needed a few non-food things and are still doing all our shopping at one safe store due to Covid. It also included my husband’s trip to Aldi to stop our little chest freezer with sandwich bread.
We had a Sunday night dinner of meatloaf (manager’s special ground beef plus a stack of frozen bread heels means it’s time to make meatloaf), green beans, baked potatoes and baked apples. That made leftovers for my lunch the next day and lunch leftovers for my husband through Wednesday. During the week, we all eat supper at different times. I made a batch of egg salad Sunday with a half dozen eggs that had been in the fridge a while and had an egg salad sandwich for supper every evening through Thursday, along with carrots and grapes or a sliced apple on the side.
Out of cholesterol considerations, I did not use half the boiled egg yolks and fed them as snacks to our two dogs who do not have allergies.
Jaime says
There are so many good for you nutrients in the yolks. Research has shown now that dietary cholesterol (from foods you eat) do not have much of an impact on your cholesterol levels. It is more about your genetics and the cholesterol that your body produces (essentially if you don’t eat cholesterol your body will still make it and that is what determines your levels).
Sarah G says
That poke bowl looks soooo inviting. I seriously can’t get enough raw fish. I would probably get along well with Gollum.
Saturday- butternut squash soup (I finally baked the squash that had been sitting on the counter for like a month!), toasted English muffins
Sunday- Random: some of us had the leftover corned beef dinner sent last week by my mom, some ate leftover soup, some ate scrambled eggs with fruit.
Monday- meatloaf, steamed broccoli, bag of tater tots that have been in the freezer for months
Tuesday -leftover meatloaf from Monday. Since the sides were gone I roasted some potatoes with onions and made green beans to go with.
Wednesday- I made the corned beef which I had bought for St. Patrick’s Day but never made due to changes in travel plans. Of course I made boiled potatoes, cabbage, and carrots to go with it.
Thursday- we had leftover corned beef in the fridge but everybody agreed that we were corned beef-ed out. So the husband picked up a pizza from domino’s while he was waiting for second born in gymnastics. It was unanimously approved.
Friday- we’ll be having the corned beef we didn’t eat last night. Lol Maybe we’ll make sandwiches with it to change it up a bit.
priskill says
Too much corned beef — now that is a problem I would like to solve
Sarah G says
Haha yes. If it was solely up to me it would be no problem. I’d make sandwiches and hash!! (I guess I should have said “everyone aside from me.”) I have a picky spouse and the kids seem to have inherited his tendencies.

We *Finally* have seen some nicer weather this week and so we’ve tried to cook outside when possible.
Sunday: Pork chops sauteed with apples and the last bottle of Santa Clausthaler NA that I found at the back of my fridge. It was really quite good. I also made some brown rice to go with it.
Monday: I saw a Kielbasa at Aldi that I had never noticed before and decided to take a chance on it. I also roasted red potatoes and made salads.
Tuesday: Cornell Chicken (Cooks Country recipe.) I adore this style of chicken and it was so nice to cook it on the grill. Some of us had leftover potatoes, some had leftover rice and we all ate some roasted vegetables.
Wednesday: Cleaned out the fridge (leftover pork and chicken)
Thursday: Sirloin steak with tossed salads and french fries made in the air fryer that my MIL gave us for Christmas. I’m not super sold on it but it’s not awful.
Friday: Leftover steak, most likely. I might do a different potato dish. Alternately we might get something out. I don’t know.

Going to look up Cornell chicken pronto!

Like others, I am working through the freezer to use up more wintery items and in anticipation of spring sports season really limiting our dinner options.
Sat – BBQ chicken, pan fried potatoes, baked beans, salad
Sun – chili, cornbread, veggies (here in the colder months that means carrots & peppers)
Mon – chicken noodle soup, veggies
Tues – shepard’s pie, green beans
Wed – spaghetti & meatballs, veggies
Thurs – pork roast, pan fried potatoes, spinach salad
Bee says
Saturday – I have been trying to get all the soup and casseroles out of the freezer before the weather gets too warm. So we had pumpkin soup, sliced veggies, and toast.
Sunday – My son had us to dinner. We had Turkey cutlets, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. I made dessert. Homemade ice cream and chocolate macaroons.
Monday – More soup. This time Asian Chicken Noodle.
Tuesday – I wasn’t feeling well after my Covid vaccine. Dear hubby brought a rotisserie chicken, and made rice with broccoli.
Wednesday – Shrimp scampi and salad
Thursday night – My son’s fiancé’s family is in town for a visit. They invited out to dinner.(outdoor dining)
Friday – It is a fend for yourself night. I may have a scrambled egg or something easy on the tummy. I got “glutened” last night and am not feeling well. I order food that should have been gluten-free/wheat free. However, there must have been hidden gluten. I am usually quite careful. I know better.
Wishing everyone peace, health and frugality.

A very off week for us meal-wise over here with Mom under the weather.
Sunday – Chicken fried steak with onion gravy, Mashed potatoes and peas. Homemade cherry cobbler using the last of the cherries from last summer.
Monday – pulled pork bbq sandwiches and a quick homemade coleslaw using green & purple cabbage, cucumber, cilantro and green onions
Tuesday – Leftovers
Wednesday – Takeout.
Thursday – sandwiches from Jersey Mikes and ice cream because ice cream makes everything better. I did manage to use the leftover mashed potatoes in a soup of white beans with peppers, onions and some other bits from the fridge. We ate this for lunch a couple of days.
Friday – Pizza tonight I think. I need to pick up some grocery odds and ends so that I can hopefully end the string of takeout this weekend. I will take a look at my freezer and see what needs to be thawed.
Happy weekend to all!

My menu/shopping list isn’t with me today, so I’ll have to rely on my very faulty memory.
I cut up and fried a whole chicken, giblets, neck and all. We ate that for two nights. One night we had cauliflower mash, gravy and… peas? One night we had something else with the chicken, whatever that was.
I slow cooked a small bottom round roast until it was tender, and we had it with green beans, cut up cucumbers and carrots from our garden.
I made salisbury steak with mushroom gravy over cauliflower rice (we ate a lot of cauliflower!) and something else.
Last night I had a church event and got home late, so I made a sandwich for him and scrounged leftovers for me.
One night was steak with braised cut up cauliflower and a green vegetable that I can’t remember. In spite of repeated appearances of cauliflower, my husband didn’t complain.
Tonight will be leftover roast on cassava (me) or corn tortillas (him) with seasoning, mushrooms, onions, spinach, whatever I can find, plus tomatoes and salsa for him.
Ruth T says
Chocolate cheesecake sounds wonderful! Nice choice, Lisey!
I lost a grocery receipt from the second week of the month, so I have no idea where I’m at for monthly spending! I’ve been trying to buy the bare minimum because of that. Whoops. I should spend some time today really hunting for that receipt.
Saturday – Roasted hot dogs and sausages over the fire and had chips, strawberries, and s’mores
Sunday – My husband made my birthday dinner – steak and popcorn shrimp! Yum! There were a couple of veggies on the side, too. Cake and ice cream for dessert (and leftover cake and ice cream for dessert for the following 2 nights).
Monday – Turkey from the freezer from Thanksgiving, stuffing, and peas
Tuesday – Turkey broccoli alfredo
Wednesday – Turkey fajitas
Thursday – Turkey and noodles (kind of like chicken noodle soup with less broth) and roasted asparagus
Friday – I still have some turkey left, but I’m going to change things up and make chili and cornbread
Helen says
Hi Kristen. Just a question about cut veggies on the side. We also add cut veggies everyday, along with our cooked veggies. Our two girls (3 and 6) are not super great at eating cooked veggies, so I make sure they get their veggies in by providing raw stuff as well. They need to eat 2 pieces of carrot along with as much cucumber they can absorb (incredible how much of the cukes they’ll eat!). I also usually cut up some peppers. When you say you have some fresh veggies on the side… which veggies do you usually use? I’m just looking for some new ideas :).
Thanks!
Helen.
kristin @ going country says
I have some kids who are not enthused about cooked vegetables either. In addition to the carrots and cucumbers, I also give them grape tomatoes, raw green beans, broccoli, and kohlrabi from our garden when we have it. They will also eat frozen vegetables happily, still frozen, including peas, corn, and green beans.
Kristen says
Those are some of my top options; carrots, cucumbers, and peppers! Grape tomatoes are a good option too.
Sonia is allergic to a fair number of raw veggies, but she can have more raw fruits, so I typically put some of those on the table too (grapes, berries, mangoes, pineapple, summer watermelon).
Sarah G says
My kids were eating way more raw veggies for a while too… now they’re back on cooked. They seem to swing back and forth with things like their mom does
They love to eat cucumbers and bell peppers raw. Also carrots here and there. For cooked veggies they’re currently in love with green beans and broccoli. They love corn too but I don’t feel that’s very veggie-ish. I wish they would try cauliflower or beets but I guess that will come in time. They say they love butternut squash but they’ll only eat it if I prepare it the same way as their grandma- roasted in rings and sprinkled with brown sugar. (Eyeroll- this makes me a little salty which is silly I know.) I wish they would eat my favorite vegetable (peas) but my husband won’t touch them either so I guess it’s a pie in the sky hope.
Joanne in the U.K. says
My boys prefer smashed peas, cook as normal then throw in some butter, garlic salt/garlic powder, mash them up with a potato masher until there are a few peas are still visible and voila my boys will eat them. Apparently they are less “peay” this way!!
Ruth T says
My kids (7, 4, and 2) also enjoy red, orange, and yellow peppers and raw green beans.
Helen says
Thanks for all the replies everyone! Much appreciated! I’ll try some others… at the moment I’m glad they eat these and they are amazing at eating fruit. We have to limit it to 1 banana per day, but they’ll also eat a pear and an apple and more if I offer it… so we often do fruit smoothies. And I’m always keen to throw in frozen spinach in there. Last fall I saved all the water from boiling beets when we bought them in bulk (to freeze for sides… we mandolin them and then reheat when needed… so delicious!). That water was frozen into ice blocks and then I’d throw a few in each smoothie. The girls think they are berry juice ice blocks (ahem… not into lying but it worked!). So they have no idea they also eat beet juice a few times a week. No idea how healthy it is… but the colour of that water has got to have some kind of goodness in it!

Su- Broccoli, Hamburgers for the family, Veggie Burger plus Provel for me. Wheat-free ciabatta roll served as a hamburger bun for my son.
M – Green Salad, Brown Rice Spaghetti Noodles with Ground Turkey and Garlic. I thawed out some home-grown tomato sauce for my husband and I. The kids prefer their pasta drizzled with olive oil.
T – Black Beans w/ Sweet Peppers and Onions, Guacamole, Tortillas (corn-based for my wheat-allergic kid)
W – Roasted Brussels Sprouts, Roasted Sweet Potatoes plus the last lone Yukon Gold diced in, Slow-Cooker Chicken
Th – Sautéed Kale and Onions, Brown Rice, Eggs for adults and Beef Hot Dogs for kids (my son is allergic to eggs)
F – We’ll likely have the leftover chicken in tortillas with Avocado or Cheese (based on allergies), plus whatever sides we can find in the fridge.

It was another busy week at our house, with school soccer & club soccer overlapping due to COVID date adjustments.
We had tacos (prepped six pounds of ground beef over the weekend), pesto meatballs, gyro meat, taco quesadillas (kids) & random piece of salmon I found hiding, and last night for dinner I was at a friend’s house & had cheesecake for dessert. It was a Basque cheesecake (no crust), so I’m counting it as dinner.
For meal prep this week, I’m going to use the crockpot, as I need some easy meal options

Saturday – take out from a local resturant. Our entire family spent the day throughly cleaning bedrooms, and steam cleaning all of the carpets. Take out and a Netflix movie (Yes Day) was our reward for a job well done.
Sunday – Our first attempt at dairy-free, gluten free lasagna. It was pretty good. We also had a salad using up odds and ends in the fridge.
Monday – Grilled pork chops & asparagus with three bean salad.
Tuesday – Tacos with ground beef and black beans.
Wednesday – Split pea and ham soup, using up a ham bone and ham from the freezer. Raviolis for my girls who do not like soup.
Thursday – Grilled chicken apple sausages, peas, and brown rice. A very easy meal that everyone really likes.
Friday – an Aldi take and bake pizza for the kids. My husband & I are going to try gluten free fish sticks I found at the store, fries, and coleslaw from some leftover cabbage we have.

My eldest son always requests a cheesecake for his birthday cake, too. He goes back and forth between a regular one and a chocolate one. I use the King Arthur recipe for the chocolate cheesecake, but I only make a half recipe, because it is seriously rich.
Friday: Scrambled eggs, leftover pasta with pesto, leftover coleslaw
Saturday: I cooked a front leg from the ram, slowly in the oven until it was tender with tomatoes, garlic, and bay leaf, then fried it and made a sauce with some more tomatoes. We also had garlic bread and green salad with ranch dressing.
Sunday: Ground beef tacos with homemade corn tortillas, and the kids’ Sunday dessert was Sprite one of my kids brought home from school. The son who brought it home saved it particularly for Sunday dessert. I did not argue, because then I didn’t have to bake anything.
Monday: My husband decided we needed to stop feeding two of the female meat rabbits that hadn’t managed to produce any live offspring. So he killed and cleaned them for me, and I cooked them. I tried it in the oven first, but they weren’t covered in enough liquid and were too old to get tender that way. So I stripped as much tough meat off as I could, then simmered it in the liquid from the pan, adding onions fried in bacon grease, Dijon mustard, thyme, and heavy cream to make a sauce. It was really good. We also had rice and frozen peas.
Tuesday: The rest of the carcasses were boiled to make stock, then I picked off the meat and used it with the stock, plus onion, garlic, celery, carrots, potatoes, green chilis, and some leftover taco meat to make a soup. We also had some cheese.
Wednesday: Brisket, roasted potatoes, caramelized cabbage, mashed squash from the freezer, and some very sweet store-bought baked beans a neighbor gave us.
Thursday: Leftovers
Tonight: Cheese omelets, fried leftover roasted potatoes, vegetable to be determined.

Spent $32 at the grocery store + $49 for a meal subscription box. We’re pausing the meal sub box for a few weeks to eat through what’s in the freezer right now. We’re up to $513 for the month, which is higher than I would like.
This week we ate:
Friday: Pork chops, carrots, and mashed potatoes
Thursday: Chicken skewers, cauliflower, and rice
Wednesday: Banh Mi Pork Burgers, pickled cucumbers & carrot fries
Tuesday: Crispy Caesar Chicken, roasted carrots & garlic mashed potatoes
Monday: Vietnamese Chicken & Rice Bowls with pickled cucumber

We’ve changed things up the last several months and have been purposefully NOT eating leftovers at lunch so that we have them for dinners. This means less cooking for me and less clean up for the hubs.
This has also been a great use-it-up week!
Saturday we grilled chicken and had that with roasted cauliflower, salad, and the last of some collards from our produce box.
Sunday I made pizza and used up the last of some turkey pepperoni. It also had mushrooms. We had this with, as usual, a salad.
Monday I threw some chicken thighs in the crockpot with enchilada sauce and we had a Mexican night. I made a chicken burrito bowl and it with corn chips.
Tuesday I tried a new recipe for a ground beef and mushroom stew with stout. I used ground turkey. This was ALMOST a fail because the stout I had was very bitter; I ended up adding some sour cream and then it was fine! This used up the last of the mushrooms and helped clean out the freezer (green peas, ground turkey). It went over mashed potatoes which also helped me use up some wrinkly potatoes.
Wednesday we had leftover chicken, rice and beans.
Thursday we had leftover stew.
Tonight I think I’ll use the rest of the red sauce from the pizza and either make meatball subs with roasted cauliflower and potatoes on the side, or pasta…
Rose says
Hey, chicken Veronique (chicken with grapes in tarragon cream sauce) is a classic French dish. Delicious.
We did not have chicken Veronique this week. Sadly. We had hamburgers, spanakopita, Itailian heros with pesto and sauce Romesco and uh, I can’t remember what else.

Just one from me, for Thursday: ham, green beans, cherries, raspberries. What makes this worth pointing out? The fact that we did NOT get take-out despite my being mostly non-functional all day because I always have a few lazy meals in the freezer.
