WIS, WWA | three more weeks of school cooking
What I Spent

I was just looking at my calendar and realizing...I only have to balance school and cooking for three more weeks. Actually, more like 2.5 weeks. Yay!
I spent:
- $16 at Safeway
- $11 at Aldi
- $56 at Sam's Club
- $30 on a Hungry Harvest box
So, $113 for me.
What We Ate
Saturday
Zoe had a friend here and I made us a pan of baked ham and Swiss sandwiches, with some fruit on the side.
Sunday
We had Trader Joe's orange chicken, plus some jasmine rice, with some veggies on the side.

Monday
Zoe was at work, so I made myself a mashed potato and egg bowl with some green onions and jalapenos.
I sauteed the chopped jalapenos in a bit of bacon grease, and then fried the egg in the same pan; that added lots of bacon flavor to my bowl even though I didn't actually use any bacon!
Tuesday
For my clinical dinner break, I made the Aldi copycat chickpea salad, and I added in some chicken that I roasted in my toaster oven that morning.
Wednesday
Zoe was at work and I made myself some whole wheat blueberry pancakes for dinner, with some cottage cheese on the side.
Thursday
I grabbed a few homemade frozen burgers from the freezer and grilled those. Fruit salad on the side.

Friday
I think Zoe and I both have an evening off without any pressing school things due sooooo....maybe some takeout and Gilmore Girls!

I was tallying up my grocery receipts last night and realized that I haven't done any grocery shopping this week! So my current total is zero, but that will change today. (Gotta stock up on turkeys, ya know!)
Saturday - I wasn't feeling the best, so my husband took the kids to Sam's Club to get dinner (my 8yo son thinks they have the best dinner) to give me a quiet night at home. It was wonderful. Since I blamed my not-feeling-great on the fact that I hadn't eaten many dark leafy greens in the previous 2 weeks, I had a salad for dinner.
Sunday - I made a triple batch of Kristen's enchiladas for our Sunday night life group potluck. My 10yo absolutely loves that recipe!
Monday - Beef roast, potatoes, and carrots
Tuesday - Leftover enchiladas and pineapple
Wednesday - Pizza and salad at church before kids club. I ended up not eating my lunch salad earlier in the day, so my 6yo and I split that as a snack before we left the house. I figured that a salad before dinner was a good move for my body.
Thursday - Ham, sweet potatoes, peas, and cornbread
Friday - Ham and potato soup, salad, and maybe Kristen's French bread if the timing works out
We always cover up the bacon pan after use, for next day eggs on toast!
Busy week, do not recall anything beyond the (quite excellent and exceedingly easy to prepare) slowcooker split pea soup I made on Wednesday. Leftovers in the freezer.
The guys bought an air fryer and used it for the first time yesterday when I had a very late office day and wasn't home for dinner. They will cook again today and present me with their finest fries, I understand.
Thankful that someone is cooking for me today! And I did not have time to write down my thankfuls yesterday but I did feel them. And I read through all the comments while I was on the train, and felt even more on behalf of the commentariat.
@JNL, my son bought an air fryer a couple years ago and kept telling me to get one and I balked, but just today I warmed up enchiladas from yesterday in it, cooked bite size chicken pieces for pasta tomorrow, and will make some tater tots in it at dinner to go with hamburgers.
WIS: 82 for all those great clearance finds at Aldi on Saturday, and then another 20 for my regular Aldi trip on Wednesday. Then yesterday, I went into Lidl to get the "loss Lidls" and spent 39 on 4 lbs of butter, 4 lbs of shredded cheese, 1 lb of cream cheese and about 30 lbs of turkey. I realized that the computer overcharged me for one of the turkeys by .96, so even though it's only a small amount, I think I will go back and let them know because their relatively confusing system might be overcharging other people too and they should be made aware of it. Ninety-six cents might really matter to another shopper.
WWA:
Fri: salad and focaccia.
Sat: salad and hotdogs on brioche buns. Clearance find ookie dough for dessert.
Sun: salad, steamed broccoli and roasted root medley (both from farm share) and scrambled eggs with cheese.
Mon: salad, leftover broccoli and root veg, rice and beans with crumbled queso.
Tue: salad with leftover guacamole as dressing, another one of those stuffed bread boule creations. This one has spinach, cheese, canned chicken, bell peppers, onions and chipotle pasta sauce.
Wed: salad and an egg casserole bake using the bread pulled out from Tuesday's bread boule.
Thu: salad and pasta carbonara with turkey bacon, peas and Parmesan cheese. More cookie dough for dessert.
Tonight: salad and focaccia.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
@Becca, you ate cookie dough for desert twice? Was it intended for this purpose or were you just gleefully downing raw eggs?? EVERYONE loves cookie dough, but I've never heard of someone admitting to eating if for desert!
@Becca, I have a love/hate relationship with Lidl. Prices are good but inventory, checkouts and staff are problematic!
I bought the butter, cream cheese and block cheese "loss Lidls" 😉 last week and had to ring them up twice at the DIY registers. The gal monitoring the registers said there was a 'glitch' in the system if you bought the limit (6) on each one. Had to ring them in separate orders. She was kind and helpful, but what about the people who didn't notice that after 4 items they were being charged full price? She said they couldn't fix it but she was able to help those of us who noticed. This type of 'glitch' happens all too frequently at Lidl.
And this week? They were totally out of the $1 cream cheese on day one of the sale. Coincidence? I think not.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana,
It was a product that is intended to be eaten as "dough," and the ingredient list did not include eggs. It was one of those prepackaged dessert type things that I would never normally buy but it was on steep clearance. My kids were delighted.
@Bobi,
So annoying. I always notice things like that because I ONLY buy sale items at Lidl. I find everything else to be overpriced compared to Aldi and I personally think the quality is not as good either. But sometimes butter is butter, you know?
@Becca,
Lucky you with the Aldi clearance finds! Mine rarely has much in the way of clearance. Maybe I'm just not going at the right time. Ha. 🙂
@Liz B.,
It was a different Aldi that I don't normally frequent, but yeah, I definitely lucked out.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, I will eat it any time of the day. Fund raiser for kiddos (and a few years after they got out of school) was frozen cookie dough.
Kudos @Becca
@Becca, thanks. I'm not as shocked. It sounds fabulous!
@Selena, in my twenties I lived with some people who always had those frozen cookies on hand. It was fabulous, and I gained a bunch of weight while living there.
Re: Chiquita on the table: As far as cats are concerned, rules are made to be broken!
Now, WIS: $70.50 at Wegmans and $7.30 at Tops.
And I accidentally hit "Comment" before giving my WIA highlight of the week: a NY Times sheet-pan recipe for sausages, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes with honey mustard. I had all the ingredients on hand (the sausages were Reduced for Quick Sale poultry sausages from the freezer); it was easy; and it was absolutely delicious. Best new recipe I've made in some time!
@A. Marie, That exact recipe is a big hit in my house! So delicious!
@A. Marie, Just went into my NYT Cooking search and found it! Thanks!
@A. Marie, this sheet pan recipe sounds scrumptious! I’ll look it up and try it!
@A. Marie, I will forgive you for consuming Brussels sprouts but will say older kiddo would eat the sprouts (and perhaps a little sausage) and better half would eat both. I'll happily grow sprouts but zero appeal for me to eat.
Gilmore Girls and takeout is the best kind of evening!
I have no memory of what order I ate these meals in but know they included veggie stirfry, chilli mac and cheese, omelettes and sweet potatoes. I'm thinking pizza tonight.
We really didn't spend any money this week because we stocked up the 2 weeks before hand.
Sunday we had my husband's experimental honey garlic chicken wings. They were good, but he says he will tweak the recipe.
Monday was leftover cabbage soup and then the rest went into the freezer.
Tuesday was Spicy Peanut sauce over angel hair pasta.
Wednesday was leftover spicy peanut sauce over angel hair pasta for me and salmon for the hubs (can't pass up pasta!).
Thursday was tacos made with leftover taco meat mix from the freezer.
Hubs is off today, so it is his day to cook and it is cold and snowy out. We'll probably watch a Christmas movie afterwards.
WIS: $145.04 -- divided between Aldi, Food Lion, Walmart and Dollar Tree.
WWA: Leftover chili. Spaghetti with marinara sauce jazzed up with Italian sausage. Chopped kale salad with apple, walnuts, boiled egg white and poppy seed dressing. This was an inexpensive individual baggie of chopped greens that I added things to and it became delicious. Vegetarian casserole. The last of the potato-white bean-sausage soup. Peanut butter sandwiches. Tangerines, apples, nuts, and rye crackers with Laughing Cow cheese.
@Ruby, I love kale with apples. I also add an apple to my brussel sprouts when I roast them. The sweetness of the apple balances the bitterness of the greens.
@Ruby, I'll be taking a kale, apple, and carrot salad to Thanksgiving dinner at my next-door neighbor's other close friend's house. (CF hosted NDN and me last year, and has kindly invited us again this year.) I agree with you and Bee that the combination of kale and apples is a good one. And you've inspired me to add a few walnuts to this year's edition.
@Bee, Yes to the sweetness factor and I add apples o my roast pork dishes for the same reason.
@Bee, you know how some people have a visceral abhorrence of cilantro? That's how I feel about kale. I'm scratching my head in puzzlement over all the kale love here, feeling sorry for those poor apples.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana,
Joining you in the abhorrence of kale! I only eat it when I can disguise it, and that very rarely.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, I am not really a kale fan, but this was extremely finely chopped and looked like it had a good bit of white cabbage in it. For $1.98 for making two meals for me, it was worth giving it a try. The apple and walnuts made it so yummy and I added the egg for protein. The same mix would be good with chickpeas and red onion.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, If you put enough oil and garlic on it, you can eat anything. That's pretty much my experience with kale.
@A. Marie, dates and raisins are also tasty with the apples and nuts.
@ErikaJS, I agree completely. Peaches are also tasty with pork in the summer.
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, the comedian Jim Gaffigan does a funny routine about his dislike of kale. I don’t mind it, but there are many things that I would rather not eat like okra!
Same. I can do kale; I skip okra every time. The texture of the stuff inside...I'm not gonna even say what things it reminds me of!
@Bee, CC Artist Jana, and others: There are always vegetables that folks either love or hate, without much middle of the road (kale, cilantro, okra, etc.). I wouldn't just sit around eating raw kale myself, but the kale works very nicely in my salad, once it's been massaged and marinated. Hey, I think we all do a little better once we've been massaged and marinated. 😀
That's what a good masseuse does, right? Oil and massage. 😉 People benefit just like kale does!
@Bonnie, I think that's how people eat escargot!
@Bee, don't you wonder who first was so desperately hungry that they decided okra was edible??
Saturday: Barbecue meatballs, mashed potatoes, pureed calabaza, green salad with vinaigrette, brownie ice cream sundaes. We had two guests with us at dinner, which is why I made an actual dessert.
Sunday: Baked chicken leg pieces, pasta shells in creamy tomato sauce, raw kohlrabi, leftover brownies or chocolate chip cookies with ice cream
Monday: I was at bingo night at school with my daughter. They had a baked potato bar there, so that's what we had. My husband made sandwiches for himself and the one boy who went home sick with him. The basketball player had leftover chicken and pasta when he got home.
Tuesday: Pork butt, baked potatoes, pureed sweet potatoes, cucumbers with salt and vinegar, some leftover crispy rice treats from the ones I made for my coworkers
Wednesday: We sent my eldest off by himself to fly to Grandma's house in New York. We don't live close to the airport--at all--and his flight was early enough yesterday morning that we stayed at a hotel in that city the night before. My daughter wanted to come with us, so the three of us left around 3 p.m. I knew we would still be driving at dinnertime, so I made pork sandwiches for the car, along with a bunch of other random portable things. My husband made pork tacos for the ones at home.
Thursday: Got home in the afternoon from our drive. We stopped at Walmart on the way home, of course, so I got a rotisserie chicken there for dinner. I made rice and a green salad with vinaigrette to go with it.
Tonight: My husband is going to my son's basketball game this afternoon, so they won't be here for dinner. That leaves just me and the two youngest. Not sure what we'll have. Maybe just quesadillas for them. I have more pork and chicken leftover for those. I'll have a salad.
OOh, I'm very interested in the chickpea salad if you care to share a link to the recipe!
It was birthday week at my house and VERY non-frugal. I did minimal cooking and food shopping as well:
Monday - I had a burger and fries (P. Terry's) because I was starving after work. Some days are like that. Even in Australia.
Tuesday - I flattened and pan fried a boneless pork chop and served with mashed potatoes I made from the last three wrinkly potatoes in the pantry, mixed greens on the side - it was delish
Wednesday - Taco meat tossed in salad greens with jalapenos and salsa
Thursday - I had Grilled Ruby Trout at a favorite restaurant, served on rice and wilted spinach, with a Mexican Martini, then had Cuatro Leches cake for dessert. I regret nothing.
Friday - I'm going to forage around the freezer. I still have loads of bell peppers, rice, and cooked chicken and turkey so I can come up with something.
Saturday and Sunday - kitchen closed, and I have two meals in there to pack for my lunches.
Happy Weekend!
@Gina from The Cannary Family, I think it's this one: https://marginmakingmom.com/chickpea-and-edamame-salad/
It's very good. I make it without the cranberries, but those would send it over the top. My two salad-loving kids practically inhale this!
WIS: $33.62 on groceries; $27.58 on dinner out with friends.
WIA: Seared pork and vegetable dumplings and tempura-battered shrimp, broccoli, bell peppers, sweet potatoes and onions at dinner out, and mucho leftovers thereafter (“the music died but the melody lingered on”); an entire bag of bright yellow Opal apples (I’d never seen these before) that were crunchy with a sweet yet tangy flavor (highly recommend); spinach, ham and mushroom quiche with baby lettuce/spinach/greens salads.
Friday: Cheeseburger Eggrolls, home fries, fresh veggies and homemade ranch dip
Saturday: Aldi Pizza – it was just my son and I for dinner so I hit the easy button and picked up a pizza while grocery shopping
Sunday: My parents brought over Chicken Tortilla Soup and chocolate cake so we could celebrate my mom’s birthday together
Monday: Instant Pot Spaghetti Rings with Beef – the recipe called for ½ a pound of ground beef but my beef is packed in 1 lb. portions. I pulled a sauce out of the freezer that had beef already included and called it good
Tuesday: BBQ chicken thighs, potato wedges, cucumber-ranch salad
Wednesday: Creamy Pastina Soup, garden salad
Thursday: Korean Beef Rice Bowls with cucumber slices
WWS - $80 at Trader Joe’s and $175 at Costco for monthly stock up. So a total of $255. This does reflect Thanksgiving purchases that normally would not be included in my shopping such as wine and baking items.
WWA -
Saturday - We took a road trip and we had a snacky dinner on the road of things I had packed at home. Fruit, cheese, nuts, carrots and such.
Sunday/Monday - I made Chicken Piccata, rice, and beet salad which we ate 2 days in a row.
Tuesday/ Wednesday - We went to dinner at my son’s. He made pork Carnitas. He sent home the leftovers.
Thursday/Friday - I made my monthly trip to Costco where I brought a rotisserie chicken. It was late when we returned home, and we decided that we weren’t hungry. Tonight I’ll heat up the chicken and make sides.
Have a great weekend and Bon appétit!
My sister is a huge Chick-Fil-A fan, so we stopped there for lunch when we grocery shopped. I spent 142.94 at stores and for a farm pick up, plus $12.57 for my lunch at Chick-Fil-A, so $155.51 overall.
WIA (or, What We Ate, since she's with me until tomorrow)
We made beef-vegetable soup and we dumped a lot of vegetables in it, so we've had it for a lot of lunches and a couple of dinners. It's good soup!
On the night I had errands after work, we just had grilled cheese sandwiches, cut up cucumbers with ranch dressing, and grapes.
Meatloaf with roasted beets and sautéed zucchini.
Ye olde fashioned, church-potluck favorite tuna casserole, but no crunchy canned onion rings on top. I made the cream of mushroom soup that is normally used in tuna casserole by sautéing cut up mushrooms in plenty of butter, then lifting them out and using the remaining butter to make a white sauce. It made the sauce taste like cream of mushroom soup, only no mystery ingredients.
Farm bacon (so good!) with roasted carnival squash plus cauliflower with cheese.
And as a thank you for feeding her for almost two weeks, she took me out one night to the local oyster house where we both got fish, not oysters, ha. I had grilled fresh flounder, baked potato, hush puppies with guava jelly (a local custom), and a salad.
We recently discussed cooking for one or two, so it was interesting that this week my sister said she had been cooking for one at each meal, but thought the way I was doing it (cooking with planned leftovers) would work better for her, so she is going to start doing it my way.
@JD, what a great thing to have your sister with you for an extended visit. Can't remember where she is from but I'm guessing far for her to stay awhile. Sisters can be The Best to hang out with, because there is a deep level of comfort and understanding built on a common history. (Can you tell I miss my sisters?)
@Central Calif. Artist Jana,
She's on the Atlantic side of Florida, further south, and I'm on the Gulf side in North Florida. About a four hour drive when counting a couple of breaks during the drive. She's still acclimating to being alone all the time and also taking some time to just travel and visit, since she couldn't do that while caring for her husband before he died. We have similar interests and of course, shared memories of growing up, so we have a good time!
Sunday: We had a late lunch, so we didn't eat dinner. DH snacked, i did not...too full.
Monday: Sweet leek sausage, pierogies, mixed veggies
Tuesday: Wings (out with friends), carrots/celery with ranch, zucchini fries
Wednesday: chicken strombolis, canned peaches on the side
Thursday: grilled marinated Pork chops, baby parsley potatoes, green beans
Friday: tonight will be soft tacos
It's been a random week for us. I was traveling with a friend for a few days, and have zero idea what DH & DS17 ate, so I'll include my meals instead:
Friday - takeout in St. George (Peruvian chicken). It was delicious
Saturday - we split a salad & nachos after a big hiking day
Sunday - another big hiking day, so I had 1/2 a burger & a few bites of my friend's fish & chips
Monday - I got home & was not feeling like cooking, so I ordered Greek takeout & DS17 picked it up after soccer practice. I had a Gyro salad bowl & it was delicious.
Tuesday - I defrosted a beef broccoli dish from the freezer & we had that with some additional fresh broccoli
Wednesday - again with the freezer doing the hard work here. I defrosted a white bean sausage dish.
Thursday - DH was at a work event. I made popcorn for myself & DS17 (his request) & that was dinner for me. He paired his with a mini Trader Joes pizza.
I've committed to getting back into the meal planning, particularly as DS18 will be home on Wednesday!
@Hawaii Planner, your life is so full of great things since you stopped working! I'm glad to hear it is going well for you. I'm curious about where you were hiking. . .
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, you are correct! I have been very "funemployed" & living my best life the past few months. I'm just now staring to look at contract options (not ready for/may never be ready for another "big career" job again.) We hiked one day at Snow Canyon State Park & the other at Zion. One of my bucket list items is to visit every national park, and as many great hiking state parks as possible. We got super lucky & got permits for Angels Landing, which was... crazy!
Clark made it clear to us his very first day in our home what he thought about tables. They are obviously meant for cats to perch on. Luckily we've trained him to not beg for (most) human food, so he only hops up when we're playing a game and is curious.
I'm avoiding thinking about what I've spent this week. Ignorance is bliss.
Saturday/Sunday: homemade pizzas
Monday: tuna burgers, DH's tomato soup (he cooked it all on Sunday so we just reheated everything right before dinner)
Tuesday: Chicken drumsticks and a small batch of chicken shawarma in the crockpot, rice and salad bar
Wednesday: DS#1 cooked burgers and I baked up the most beautiful potatoes I've ever found at the store for a baked potato bar. I've been wanting to get us away from chips or frozen fries as a side, and this was a big hit, even with my Selective Eater, who has never eaten a baked potato before in his life, as far as I know. He happily put butter and American cheese on it and enjoyed.
Thursday: hamburger stew made by DS#2, mac and cheese for the Selective Eater.
Tonight: DS#3 is making taco night for us. I did forget to ask DH to get tortilla chips at the store, so maybe I will make some in the oven with our many corn tortillas. anybody ever do this before?
@Karen A., ignorance is bliss indeed. I never want to know what my husband spends at the local grocery store but this week he told me that he paid $8 for a package of those little colored peppers. EIGHT DOLLARS?!! It seems that I need to light a candle and be reverent every time I eat one now.
@Karen A., Never in the oven, but they're easy to make in a skillet on the stove. Just oil or lard, cut-up corn tortillas, and salt after they're fried. Keep 'em warm in the oven if you need to make more than one batch. I'm sure they can be made in an oven, but I'm also sure they're better fried. Most things are. 🙂
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, giggling at the reverence shown to those expensive peppers! And, my husband does the Costco shopping like a hero (he loves it & I detest it) & sometimes when I see the receipt, I really have to restrain myself from commenting. Bless him for facing the Costco Saturday crowds.
@kristin @ going country, Thanks! I suffer from a fear of frying, so I brushed a bunch of tortillas with plenty of olive oil, cut them up and baked them at 350 for 15 minutes (longer, actually, I forget) until they were golden brown. I liked them a little too much, but making them at home rather than buying them probably should keep my chip intake down some at least.
We had:
- Red sauce over fonio. Fonio is grown in West Africa and I had brought some back with me. Unfortunately à bunch of it had gone rancid, but I cooked up a bag that was still good.
- Bean and rice burrito bowls
- grilled cheese and tomato soup
- chicken Tortilla soup
- Tonight will probably be lentil soup and bread
I finally found something at Aldi’s I like. Black olive, basil, and cheese tapenade. I went back and bought some more.
@Tiana, thanks for the recommendation. I will look for this at Aldi's next week.
This week: 177 Kroger and Aldi
M. TERIAKI chicken sandwiches with a salad and pineapple.
T. Chickpea salad and broccoli cheddar soup with a bit of carrot and pasta
W. Leftover soup with a side of roasted sweet potatoes and carrots.
Th. Grilled chicken sausages and air fryer fries
F. Going to a movie. Popcorn and a slush!!! ( WICKED! I am so excited!)
Sat. Son requested homemade pizza with our homemade pesto base.
Sun. Will be grilled marinated round steak with asparagus and prob rice pilaf.
1. The Clementines from the River House renovation project are in. Yeah. The world's best citrus. Add the fuyu persimmons from the ranch tree and I won't be buying fruit this month.
2. I made a vat of white rice from my storage. My main project is to lower my A1C. 24 hour leftover rice has less of a Glycemic load. ( I dislike brown rice) I ate it with Guac cups for .10 a piece from Grocery Outlet, a breaded fish fillet, and Intapot chickpeas.
3. Breakfasts are the last of the homemade yogurt, a mixture of walnuts from our farm and goji berries/dried cranberries. I added a T. of pear balsamic vinegar.
4. Sweet treat is .30 chocolate peanut Larabars from G.O.
@Mary Ann, a friend told me that you are supposed to soak and rinse white rice several times before cooking to lessen the glycemic load. I don't know specifics, but this might be worth looking up. (Are you allowed to dislike brown rice living there in the vicinity where it is grown? Our friend used to grow rice around Arbuckle so there was no disrespect of brown rice allowed!)
I spent a total of $173 @ Publix this week.
Saturday: Oven Roasted Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, & Green Peas
Sunday: Turkey Chowder with corn, potatoes, and kielbasa
Monday: Leftovers
Tuesday: Beef Chili with all the toppings
Wednesday: Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks, Jasmine Rice, Speckled Butter Beans & Green Beans
Thursday: Chicken Broccoli and Rice Casserole & Mixed Green Salad
Friday: Clean out the fridge - Mom has Thanksgiving errands to run
WIS: $48 on food from Walmart, including a few ingredients for Thanksgiving. No great sale prices this year, but I did get cash back on a few things.
WIA: gluten-free pasta with tomato sauce & lentils, gluten-free chicken pot pie, ham potato soup from the freezer with gluten-free crackers, baked beans & cornbread with roasted sweet potatoes. Tonight will be leftovers, so beans & cornbread & sweet potatoes again.
@Elizabeth M, Oh, I forgot the best part. I made chocolate chip cookies and had them for dessert the past two days and will again tonight.
Mm, that chicken looks good! What will you be doing in 2.5 weeks? Is it a winter break, or are you nearing graduation?
Saturday: I was working a night shift and we went out for dinner beforehand. I had whitefish salad, a bagel, some raw veggies, and a latke.
Sunday: We were at my parents' and had salmon, mac 'n cheese, and vegetables.
Monday: Homemade pizza and raw veggies.
Tuesday: Baked katsu that I prepared and froze two weeks ago (it's actually prepared and frozen raw, just like the kind you can buy in the grocery store.) Cabbage slaw.
Wednesday: Tomato/lentil soup and grilled cheese.
Thursday: I made chicken broth and used some chicken wontons that I'd made and frozen two weeks ago. We had more cabbage slaw on the side.
Friday: Mr. B is at his university newspaper reunion, so my daughter and I will have our usual: salmon, raw veggies, challah, and ice cream for dessert.
Winter break! Five weeks off before my final semester. 🙂
@Kristen, nice! I hope it's extremely relaxing 🙂
@Kristen, keep your game face/game brain on.
We went from zero to a foot of snow this week with more on its way. WWA:
Saturday- oven baked steelhead trout in foil, oven fries, asparagus
Sunday - chicken curry, rice, naan, papadams with chutney
Monday- leftovers
Tuesday - pasta e fagioli
Wednesday - leftovers
Thursday - homemade baked chicken nuggets, oven fries
Friday - DH wants the remaining curry (I won’t do 5-day-old leftovers), I will likely have the remaining pasta e fagioli

Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows too. Enjoy your evening.
Green salads with baked chicken on top for all our dinners this week except for Monday night: leftover roast and sweet potatoes from Sunday. Tonight will be tomato soup and grilled cheese.
WIS: $465. This is mostly getting ready for next week/month. There was clearly nothing expensive eaten this week.
M - Chicken noodles soup with harvest bread. I've finally gotten to go through the freezer and make turkey broth with all of last year's frozen turkey carcasses (before I get more this week!).
T - Hamburger stroganoff with cut veggies
W - I had other plans, but ended up out later than expected so we had spaghetti and meatballs with cut veggies.
R - Four of us were at a school function that included dinner. I left hotdogs and applesauce for the remaining three.
F - Homemade pizza
@Kristen - OMG, cat on the table?? That is VERBOTEN at my house (as our counters - occasionally the huntress will hop on the counter chasing an insect but it is rare).
Sat - dine out couple of steps up from Mickey D's CB and fries
Sunday - our usual dine out Mexican
Monday - like zero recollection and not a recollection of even a serving of leftover for my Dad
Tuesday - grilled brats and doctored up pork-n-beans (small cans of Van Camp's and Busch beans plus leftover pork chop from the freezer).
Wednesday - Took Dad out for his bday - out of rib eye steaks for steak sandwiches so we had cheese burgers and fries. Both well done but lettuce and tomato for him (I was like WHAT) and pickles/onions for me.
Thursday - better half fried up leftover mostaccioli w/meat & veggie sauce from the freezer.
Friday - dine out fish/potatoes/veggies for better half, fish sandwich and fries for me. As I've gotten older, I ate one of the filets with the bun but the other half sans bun. Been a long week at work for me and better half helped out a friend a couple days this week.
This week's trip to Aldi was a painful $263 because it includes everything for Thanksgiving, and because I'd only spent $93 so far in November as I determinedly used up our pantry and freezer which made cleaning those two things to prepare putting away Thanksgiving loot much easier. I'll remember this tactic for future years! And although it was a lot of money, I'm thinking of it as a luxurious blessing being that we can luckily afford it and it means that our sons still want to and will be here several times over the holiday which will be very nice 🙂
Sooo...do I actually remember what I/we ate this week? Let's try (where's that laughing emoji?)
Sat: (just me) upgraded homefries made with potato, celery, carrot, onion, peas, two easy over eggs, and two cranberry walnut drop scones
Sun: Veggie soup from freezer with crackers, an apple, nuts, and a cookie
Mon: Rice with smoked herring and peas
Tues: OMG there's actually food in the house again because I stopped at Aldi after work. Turkey and swiss with miracle whip on fresh sourdough, an apple, plain yogurt with a spoon of sour cherry preserves, and nuts
Wed: husband got home in the wee hours from a two week trip with his lovely cold that he'd picked up in his travels so it's still a week of freezer soup, egg sandwiches, and nibbles for him. I opted for a warm bowl of grape nuts with raisins, a banana, and tea
Thurs: another sandwich of the same, yogurt, 2 apples, a banana with a spoon of homemade peanut butter
Fri: (nibbled over a couple hours while I baked/cooled/frosted one son's birthday cake) literally tuna with a spoon eaten straight from the can with a spoon with a dribble of olive oil and a couple grinds of pepper, 2 carrots, nuts, tea with FF milk & sugar, yogurt
@Beth, 3 1/2 weeks at only $93 is an accomplishment.
