WIS, WWA | the end of a streak

What I Spent

Well. We broke our streak of low grocery spending.

  • I went to Aldi and spent $125.
  • I got a Hungry Harvest box for $20 (I had a $5 credit from a previous order error)
  • Mr. FG picked up some groceries and spent $32 at BJ's.

I have still not personally been to BJ's; I will check it out eventually! Mr. FG really likes going there, which is probably a side effect of work-from-home pandemic life.

(You know you've been home for too long when warehouse shopping is exciting. Heh.)

How about a cat picture or two to break up all this text?

January Grocery Spending

Week 1: $101

Week 2: $59

Week 3: $138

Week 4: $77

Week 5: $177

January Weekly Average

I budget $150/week, and we averaged $110/week in January.

What We Ate

Saturday

Takeout date night for Mr. FG and me; we did Panda Express (very easy to stay in our $20/week budget there!)

Fortune Cookie
a fortune from a time, long ago, when we did not just do takeout!

The girls made food for themselves here at home.

Sunday

Sunday is currently our support-your-local-restaurants night, as restrictions continue; we tried out a locally-owned pizza/sub shop.

Monday

Sonia's night to cook; she made chicken katsu, one of her favorite things to eat. We had some raw produce on the side.

Chicken Katsu
Recipe is from Dinner Illustrated

Tuesday

I tried a recipe for chocolate waffles, which we ate topped with whipped cream and strawberries.

The concept sounded good, but I thought the chocolate flavor was lacking. Which is a bummer; the recipe even called for some coffee, and coffee generally deepens chocolate flavor.

We also had bacon and OJ, you know, to make this a well-rounded meal. 😉

Wednesday

I made shrimp and grits for everyone except Zoe; she had a grilled cheese sandwich because she is allergic to shrimp and she hates grits.

shrimp and grits

I was so attuned to the fact that Zoe's allergies were out of the picture that I completely forgot to make the grits dairy-free!

So I made another small pot of grits for Sonia, using a combo of coconut milk and cream, plus Violife cheese.

Thursday

I realized I was missing an ingredient for the slow-cooker stew that I had on the menu. And I am not the type of person to run out and grab a single ingredient.

Heck, I can barely drag myself to the grocery store even once a week!

So, I grabbed a bag of frozen ham (left from the spiral ham I bought over the holidays) and made panini with those. And we had grapes, sliced oranges, and sliced cucumbers on the side.

Friday

I plan to make chicken lo mein to use up some noodles I found during my pantry clean-out.

What did you have for dinner this week?

  1. I would be very excited to go to a BJs. And I am not at all joking about that. I really, really miss grocery shopping myself. Not enough to make the long trip to the store, though. Obviously. 🙂

Friday: A lamb front leg roast, cooked covered in the oven for a few hours, then sliced and heated up with some mashed tomatoes and garlic for a very rough marinara, and covered with asadero cheese, which is like mozzarella. So kind of a lamb parmigiana? Or something. I also made a white bean stew with a jar of navy beans I wanted to get out of my pantry and a truly ancient ham bone from the freezer. And we had some carrot sticks.

Saturday: Italian sliders (tiny hamburgers seasoned like meatballs, then covered in roasted tomato sauce from the freezer and asadero cheese), roasted potatoes, fried mushrooms, roasted bell pepper and onion, green salad with vinaigrette

Sunday: We dispatched our two extra roosters this weekend, and I pressure cooked them. I used some of the meat this night in a skillet that also included some of the rooster stock, roasted green chilis, garlic, cream cheese, and cheddar cheese. There was also rice, frozen corn, and a strawberry cobbler (made with frozen strawberries) for our Sunday dessert.

Monday: A work day for me, so I quickly made another skillet with the rooster meat, this time with stock, leftover cooked rice, leftover cooked onion, leftover corn, half a can of leftover tomato sauce, cumin, chili powder, grated cheese, and sour cream. My husband had some soup I had made the day before for lunch, and I had a salad to use up some vegetables that needed to get out of the refrigerator.

Tuesday: Pork chops and sauerkraut (we planted the cabbage seeds yesterday hooray!--inside, obviously--and are thus beginning the sauerkraut cycle anew), garlic bread, steamed carrots, cucumbers with ranch dressing

Wednesday: Cleared out the refrigerator after work. Some had tacos with the leftover chicken skillet, one had soup, one had leftover pork and sauerkraut, and I had another salad.

Thursday: Fried pork, rice, cucumbers with ranch dressing, mashed squash from the freezer.

Friday: The pork I slow-cooked yesterday was two pieces, so I think I'll use the second piece tonight in a kind of pork ragu. The kids can have it with pasta. My husband and I can have it with squash. We'll all have salad, because I have two big heads in the refrigerator right now. Yay.

    1. Back in April-May or so there was a big issue where people were going to grocery stores or Walmart/Target and just wandering around without buying anything. People just wanted some entertainment and for some that meant just walking around the store.

      1. When the world went on lockdown, they basically started living like me. 🙂 Although, honestly, I have a lot of sympathy for people who were not accustomed to solitude and a home-centered life and then were suddenly forced into that. It's not for everyone, and I know it's been hard for many people.

        1. I felt the same way about people who suddenly had kids learning at home. I can imagine how hard that is when it's such a huge change.

          1. It took about two weeks for us to adjust — similar to summer adjustment, though different in that I had to plan their days based on who had to zoom when, and who had what due when, so we didn't forget something. There was some chaos, lol.

In summer, I have to come up with things for them to do so they can not be mom-mom-mom-mom-mom all the live-long day. At least with school at home, a lot of that part was taken care of.

          2. For my wife it was: work from home full time AND our daughter was home full time AND she got reassigned to work in a swamped department temporarily AND we both had to work overtime.

Our poor daughter watched too much TV and had to play alone a lot in those first couple months and it was hard on her.

          3. Yep, such a tough combo. I think it's been hard on everyone, but particularly tough on parents. And even tougher for working moms, according to what I've read.

        2. I so identify with this comment. I've worked very hard to make my home a place I like being, and there's almost always something to keep me entertained, valued, or occupied (or not when I'm not feeling it). My home is my oasis away from outside demands and I love being at home. I do think about people I know who are constantly go-go-go-go and now they're forced to being at home.

    2. I want to eat meals at your house. They seem so inventive, wholesome, and filling! And you serve such a variety. My meals feel boring!

      1. Thank you, but I found this funny because I was just thinking yesterday, "I am the most boring cook ever." Only in my seasonings and preparations, though. The variety of raw ingredients I deal with--sheep, roosters, various kinds of garden vegetables--is what creates the novelty, I suppose.

        1. I'm sure that does require being willing to blaze your own trail a bit; there probably aren't large numbers of recipes on say, Pinterest for the more uncommon meats you cook. Honestly though your meals are refreshing to read. I was raised eating a lot of wild game and I miss it!

  2. Saturday: I think we just did a fridge clean out as we spent most of the day cleaning.

Sunday: Made a sort-of Detroit-style pizza. My wife doesn't like the sauce over the toppings and prefers we just use regular pizza cheese (mozzarella etc.) So it was baking pan pizza I guess.

Monday: Finished off the pizza from the weekend. d

    Tuesday: Taco Tuesday!

Wednesday: It's been mighty cold around here (I really hate the cold btw) and so we had homemade soup. Soups and stews are the best remedy for the cold.

Thursday: Leftovers night. My daughter ate some of the leftover tacos from Tuesday and my wife and I ate some more soup.

Friday: Making a Japanese Curry rice in the Instant Pot. It seems to be a hit around my house and we can eat lunch off of it for days, so that's nice.

    1. I hate the cold too and we have a big snow coming (or so they say!) Like you said, soup, stew and especially chili definitely help.

    2. Sauce over the toppings? Like over the cheese too? I have never heard of this.

Here you get: dough, sauce, meat & veg, cheese

  3. Alas, I am not a menu planner. But...I tend to cook several things at once, to use things up and to provide several choices for meals. Yesterday was "emphasis on the Misfit Box." I made: stuffed Anaheim peppers (the peppers), zuppa toscanna soup (yellow potato, kale), sauteed swiss chard, and pear tart. The day before, I roasted red beets and cut them up. I do like them just like that or to add to smoothies. In addition, I made "doughnut pudding," (bread pudding using doughnuts) to use up three, day-old glazed doughnuts.

  4. 1. Steak stir-fry
    2. Salmon, rice, broccoli
    3. Kale Mashed Potatoes & Chicken Breast & Coleslaw
    4. Hamburgers & Salad
    5. Quinoa Salad & Lime Chicken Thighs
    6. Spaghetti & Meat Sauce & Salad
    7. TOMORROW will be roasted potatoes & grilled cheese & turkey sandwiches & raw veggies

  5. Shopping last Sunday, I think I was around 210.00 (I go every two weeks)

Saturday- over mom/dads, sister/bil made red sauce we had raviolis, with sausage/meatballs. I brought desert, brownies, shortbread bars, cinnamon cake.

Sunday- over mom/dads roast beef, mashed, broccoli, corn, bread, left over desert from Saturday.
Monday- Made beef Stroganoff, over butter noodles. got it from Pintrest, will not be making that again!
Tuesday- Pancakes, Bacon cut up apples, and cuties?
Wednesday- Pasta Alfaro, I had some broccoli with mine.
Thursday- Hot dogs on the grill, steak fries (I braved the freezing weather to cook on the Grill, think was about 23, but figured they didn't take long) BTW I HATE the cold!.
Friday- Which reminds me , We are going to have pasta with red sauce, which I need to go take out of the freezer/ (when I make sauce, always make a bunch so have more in the freezer)

  6. Saturday-fried egg, bacon, toast, grapefruit
    Sunday-chicken pot pie, fruit crisp
    Monday-spaghetti, salad, bread
Tuesday-roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple and raisin salad
    Wednesday-pizza, salad
    Thursday-leftover roast beef
    Friday-probably leftovers

  7. Sunday - ravioli, salad
Monday - homemade pizza, salad, oranges
    Tuesday - shepherd's pie, salad
    Wednesday - pizza leftovers, broccoli
Thursday - shepherd's pie and broccoli leftovers, oranges
Friday - turkey sandwiches on pretzel roll, avocado/mandarin salad

  8. Saturday- skillet hamburgers with leftover baked macaroni and cheese, and steamed green beans.
Sunday- My husband was excited about a particular football game again (I wish I shared his enthusiasm, poor guy; at least my our oldest daughter is starting to enjoy watching games with him), so we got some pizza which is what he loves to do. Unfortunately it was from Pizza Hut, not our local place. In terms of frugality this was a win, as Pizza Hut is cheaper. In terms of supporting a family business, it was a fail. 🙁
Monday- went out for late lunch with family at a small local Italian place following my uncle's wake/funeral. Then later in the evening we ate a light dinner of random leftovers.
Tuesday- Lasagna soup. This was a fun easy way to use up some extraneous lasagna noodles.
Wednesday- mama had plans (introvert mom self-care break) so daddy and the littles had Stouffer's chicken pot pie.
    Thursday- smorgasbord of leftovers
Friday- cream cheese chicken pockets, baked butternut squash, green beans

    1. Forgot to say we did a grocery shop this week of $198; the first one since my Aldi trip three weeks ago, aside from a small stop to replace milk and some fruit.

  9. We tend to cook a few things over the weekend, & then have leftovers during the week. That said, it was a more random week than usual. We had:

-Sesame beef with rice. I didn't love this recipe the first go round, so I had to doctor up the leftovers quite a bit. It was a ridiculously simple crockpot recipe, so I was disappointed it wasn't tastier. We had this 2x.
-We had a parmesan garlic chicken dish, which was delicious, that my 13 y.o. made. We had this 2x.
-One night I had chocolate banana bread right before dinner, so considered that my dinner, while everyone else had beef tacos. 😉
-Another night we had the last of the leftovers, and there wasn't quite enough, so I had a burger from the freezer
-We cancelled Hello Fresh in January, but they offered a fantastic "come back" offer, so we signed up again for another five weeks. My son really prefers cooking this way while he's learning, and I love having another helper in the kitchen. Tonight we're having chicken tacos

  10. What I spent - around $22 for coffee & creamer, sanitizing wipes & buns.
    What we ate -
Sat - from our niece - tuna salad on croissants
Sun - again from our niece - chicken tortellini in Alfredo sauce with mushrooms & kale, my homemade bread. Gave some bread to my niece for her meal.
Mon - beef roast with gravy, roasted potatoes, carrots & onion, cornbread
    Tue - cheese coneys
Wed - hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, creamed corn, cornbread
Thu - a from-the-freezer-easy-button night of soup beans, potato cakes & cornbread for DH; pepper steak & rice for me
Fri - either homemade pizza or salmon patties, Mac & cheese, plus veggies

  11. WWS: $8 (Aldi) for a total of $232 for the month (2 people). WWA:
Sat.: Milk-braised chicken, sautéed beet greens, roasted carrots. (supposed to have this last Friday, but at the last minute switched to leftovers)
    Sun. Homemade pizza; salad
Mon.: ROBBIE BURNS NIGHT!! Cock-a-leekie soup; bacon & cheddar scones
Tues.: Red Thai curry, with tofu, zucchini, carrots & red peppers; rice
Wedn.: Lemongrass grilled pork chops; grilled zucchini; rice; carrot & radish salad
Thurs.: Cauliflower larb (delicious! Bon Appetite) on lettuce; cucumber & avocado; roasted potato peels
Fri.: zucchini and sweet potato fritters; yogurt-cilantro sauce; salad. If I'm feeling fancy, maybe I'll grill a couple of shrimp.

    1. I had been wanting to try milk-braised chicken, but then we discovered Sonia can't handle milk. I recently saw a version that uses coconut milk, so I've been thinking I should give that a shot.

      1. I recited the first two lines of Address to a Haggis, and my partner sang the first stanza of Auld Lang Syne!

    2. My brother, an English major, once brought haggis to Thanksgiving dinner, and I had to sit across from him...and it. And then he recited some Robert ("Bobby" as he calls him) Burns -- he was wildly pleased with himself!

      (Tuesday night's curry sounds delicious!!)

  12. Super busy work week for both my husband and I:
    Big dinner salads
    Chicken tacos
    Waffles/bacon
    Peruvian sandwich takeout
Cooked a teriyaki udon noodle stir fry from Costco adding chicken and vegetables. Was so awful I threw it away and we got Panera.
Probably take out tonight too because we haven’t had time to shop.

  13. This past week I didn’t go to the grocery store. I’ve been trying to use up what I have. Here is what I made:
Skillet pork chops with onions. Served with mashed potatoes and a can of green beans.
Leftover pork chops and potatoes served with roasted curried cauliflower.
Teriyaki chicken, roasted frozen broccoli florets, coconut rice, and a salad. ( dinner with my mom and she had fresh lettuce)
    Green smoothie and waffles.
One night I picked up a pizza and it turned into two dinners.
Tonight I’m thinking I’ll make a sesame chicken with rice and Brussel sprouts. Tomorrow I’ll probably make chili and cornbread.

    1. Putting off grocery shopping is an extremely effective method of fighting food waste! It really makes me scour through what's in my fridge, freezer, and pantry.

  14. We started out this week normally enough - I had zucchini and summer squash in my Misfits box, so we had a big pan of squash n' onions and flanken steak Sunday night, a steak which I had never heard of until recently, but found it turns out well when slow cooked in a little liquid.

Then I took my husband to the hospital for a procedure, and ate a meal I brought with me - turkey tetrazzini over spaghetti squash, from my freezer. My husband got clear liquids. And then....

His procedure for Tuesday had to be postponed to Wednesday. Since I wasn't even allowed in the front door of the hospital, I left on Tuesday around lunch and drove all the way to work, worked, got home and scrounged leftovers. My husband had clear liquids. I made plans for us to have shrimp from the freezer when he got home on Wednesday, after his procedure. We kept in touch by phone.

But it was postponed again, to Thursday, which I had to wait until 9 am or so to find out. So I went to work and tried to work ahead, since I planned (hoped) to be out Thursday, due to bringing him home. I cooked some cassava pasta and had that with carrots sticks and pear sauce for dessert that night. He got clear liquids.

Yesterday he finally had his procedure, so we had Burger King as we left the town where the VA hospital is, since it was Thursday evening and he'd last eaten actual food, on Sunday night.

On the up-side, we'll be having shrimp tonight!

      1. It sure was! Even more fun is that the hospital is 2 hours southeast of our home, and my work is an hour northwest of our home. We hope this week won't repeat itself anytime soon!

  15. We had a good week of using what we had and supplementing with an Imperfect Foods box and a small grocery delivery.

Sunday: Chili and cornbread (used beans, ground beef, sausage and a few random burger patties that were hiding in the freezer)
Monday: Lemon chicken over angel hair with a salad
Tuesday: Tacos using ground beef from the freezer, served the tacos with lots of toppings and also made guacamole
Wednesday: Pulled pork sliders and cilantro coleslaw
Thursday: Personal size shepherd's pies...my kids love the cute little dishes and we make each person's with their choice of veggies along with the meat/seasoning/gravy and top with mashed potatoes
Friday: We will get take out from a local restaurant.

  16. This is a random question, but I have noticed that you have paninis on the menu fairly regularly. Do you use a panini press that you would recommend, or how do you make them pressed sandwiches as opposed to just grilled?

    1. I use a George Foreman counter top grill to make paninis. It works great and gives us pretty grill marks, too. My family loves paninis. We usually have them on Sunday night.

  17. Mmm, food. Reading other's menus makes me hungry.

Monday we had apricot chicken over rice. Tuesday I broiled hamburgers with onions and mushrooms. Wednesday I went old school and made meatloaf and baked potatoes. Yesterday I made ham and potato soup and biscuits and today I plan to hit the easy button and serve turkey and cheese quesadillas.

  18. Saturday - We had a date!!! At the end of our curtain shopping trip we got Firehouse Subs to go. It was SO good! We had to go to a bigger city to get that kind of diversity of restaurant options and it was really fun to have more choices.
Sunday - Turkey broccoli alfredo and peas
Monday - Turkey, stuffing, and green beans
    Tuesday - Fajitas and pineapple
Wednesday - Grilled cheese and tomato soup
Thursday - A new recipe with a familiar staple... Slow cooker lentil vegetable soup (new) with FG french bread (familiar staple). I'm pretty sure that only 1 of my 3 kids actually tried the soup and he had a funny look on his face with each bite, so it's not something I'll be making again.
Friday - Little Caesar's pizza kits brought home from my husband's work! Yay for easy and free dinner!

  19. Sunday - hamburgers and oven fries with veggies.
Monday - grilled chicken & reheated oven fries and veggies
Tuesday - I was out when I should have been cooking dinner, so I got a sub that hubs & I split.
Wednesday - tried an unstuffed cabbage roll recipe and hubs claimed it was good and could be put into rotation. Yeah!!!
Thursday - was supposed to be soup & sandwich, but we had a hot dog with the leftover soup from the freezer.
Friday - tonight is spaghetti with sauce from the freezer.
Tomorrow we will probably go out.

  20. I just wanna say, more cat pics! (read like Christopher Walkin saying more cowbell .) I love cats. I am not ashamed!

  21. I am with your husband. I normally hide when the husband wants to go grocery shopping, but the other day I was so disappointed when he stopped at Safeway on the way home from the doctor's because I had been looking forward to having an excuse to leave the house. And I was only going to wait in the car while he picked up a few things, I was not even going to go into the store!

I hit a "I don't want to cook" period, so I made a huge pot of Mexican meatball soup and we ate that for four dinners, with a different bread every night to keep things a bit less boring. Then I cooked a chicken and we have been eating off that for the last two days. Tonight it is Filet o' Fish Friday. The husband does not like to cook and is perfectly happy to eat the same thing day after day if that is all I feel like doing.

  22. Welp, another week, another bunch of eerily similar meals:

Friday -- Celebrated husband's birthday with gift card for steak house take out -- yum!
Saturday -- Big salad with chicken breast atop
Sunday -- Homemade cauliflower pizza --working on a better crust
Monday -- Big salad with chicken breast
Tuesday -- Big Salad with chicken breast
Wednesday --wh -what's this??!! -- Chicken breast with sauteed broccoli, spinach and carrots, brown rice. Prepared by husband, likely desperate for something different.
Thursday -- Big salad with chicken breast. There's a shocker.
Tonight -- Take out from somewhere night! Happy Friday to all!

  23. We had:

I gave us something of a break from the potatoes & carrots this week because I've used up the ones that I desperately needed to.

Saturday - smoked pork loin, pan fried potatoes, biscuits with apple butter, tossed salad
    Sunday - fish tacos
Monday - shepard's pie to work on those potatoes & carrots
Tuesday - meatball subs for a birthday
Wednesday - pan fried chicken, rice, spinach salad
Thursday - kids had leftover pork roast, mashed potatoes, and spinach salad; adults had homemade pizza after a school meeting

  24. We had leftovers of a large and delicious meatloaf all week. At least the guys did. I recently discovered I can tolerate yogurt of a certain brand again and ate a homemade vanilla parfait every night made with blueberries and Kashi Go cereal.

Last weekend I spent $157 even at the grocery store, all of which was for food except for about $15 in paper goods. That should last us two weeks. Got a great score on manager's special yellow-stickered ground beef, thus the large meatloaf, plus I made curried beef and rice for my work lunches this week.

  25. We had a busy workweek so ate very modest meals with potatoes/meat/veg. Most variety in the vegetables - steamed, braised, salad etc.
And one day we ate soup.
It was our first week of curfew so in the weekend we consoled ourselves with a culinary experiment: home marinated and cooked spareribs (they were truly excellent! Beginners luck?) , with coleslaw and homemade bbq sauce. And dessert, which we normally do not do.

The curfew is still on, so this weekend I'll try to make a special dinner again. It is practically the only variety in an otherwise monotonous life. I feel the routine life brings me closer to people of past generations, that never had the amusements that we are led to believe are normal.

  26. WIS: Grocery stores--$175.33
Harvest Box $150. 2 boxes a month. Daughter and I share the cost. This supports
    local cooperatives and small businesses.
Coffee $44 2 1-lb bags every 2 weeks from a local small roaster. A nice
    young man

WEA: Friday: Homemade pizza. I had cheese and sauce to use.
Saturday: Deli turkey, stuffing, gravy, potato and a vegetable. My husband had bought too much turkey at the deli, so I got creative.

Monday: Remainder of the pastrami, baked beans,
    Tuesday: Burgers, leftover baked beans.
    Wednesday: Pasta and simple sauce
Thursday: Chicken breast with fries and carrots.
    Tonight: Lasagna from the freezer.

I will be working out of the freezer this week. Our dessert this week will be ice cream. It was 97-cents for the box that is more than a quart but less than a half gallon.

  27. Sunday: stuffed pepper casserole
Monday: chicken strips and mashed potatoes
    Tuesday: chili dogs
    Wednesday: dinner out
Thursday: brisket sandwiches (from a smoked brisket at Christmas)
Friday: chili (also with brisket leftovers )
Saturday will probably be corned beef hash with the last of the brisket

  28. A quiet week in our house.

Monday -Western omelets with toast and bacon.
Tuesday - Dressed burgers with coleslaw and applesauce.
Wednesday - Sloppy Joe's, tater tots and corn.
    Thursday - leftovers
Friday - Fish fry takeout from our local diner to support local business.

  30. F: foccacia with green peppers and olives, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheeses; asian greens salad
S: leftover focaccia; leftover stuffed orange peppers (rice, ground beef and cheddar cheese); lettuce salad w walnuts, apples, celery and Parmesan cheese
S: salmon with red sorrel; potatoes mashed w broccoli, cream and nutmeg; lettuce and purple cabbage salad w carrots, celery and carrot greens
M: porcupine meatballs cooked in canned tomatoes (thanks for the idea, Betta! We loved them!); basil fettuccine pasta; spinach and red cabbage salad

W: roasted chicken; leftover mashed potatoes w broccoli; warm arugula and leftover pasta salad fried in sesame oil; leftover spinach salad (added carrots and celery)
T: leftover rice and bean casserole; leftover arugula and pasta salad; buttered toast
F: foccacia w olives, tomatoes and mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan cheeses; warm kale and craisin salad
S (tonight): I'm not sure because we have almost no leftovers in fridge! This is rare! Probably something with eggs because we have a surplus since I ordered from hungry harvest and then my mom surprised us with 2 dozen more.

      1. Sorry, Betta! And sorry Gina! I went back and checked and she deserves the credit for porcupine balls! Not sure why I mixed it up-blame it on my over-tired brain!

  31. Last Saturday...we had 2 single-serving containers in the freezer of 2 kinds of chili. We thawed those out and had them with a side salad
Sunday - Shrimp tacos, rice and beans
Monday - Leftover odds and ends. I made a sort of "burrito" with leftover rice and beans and some leftover chili.
Tuesday - "Fancy" chicken sandwiches with salami and provolone, a side salad and roasted potatoes
Wednesday - Turkey burgers; we used up frozen onion rings from the freezer
Thursday - Breakfast burritos to use up some leftover odds and ends
Friday - Pizza with the last of some mushrooms, salami, mozzarella and onions, salad

Tonight I have no idea what we're having, but it'll most likely involve chicken...maybe a one-pot pasta.

  32. Sunday-My husband loves cheese steak sandwiches, and he wanted to try making some at home. They ended up being really good! Not our cheapest homemade meal, but cheaper than going out for cheese steaks
Monday-We tried a new sheet pan gnocchi recipe. Cooking gnocchi on a sheet pan is now my preferred method.
Tuesday-A local pizza place does $10 Tuesdays, so we had chicken alfredo pizza with cut up fruit.
    Wednesday-Leftovers
Thursday-Celery and potato soup with rolls.
    Friday-Leftovers
    Saturday-Sweet potato and beet hash.

  33. My husband has a newfound love of doing the shopping--he always wants to go to Costco (like a week before I even would) just because he gets to *go somewhere*
