The top Frugal Girl posts from 2017

Happy New Year, frugal friends!

I missed talking to you guys last week, but it was definitely a smart choice to take the week off.

I thought I might get a bit of down time, but it ended up being a very busy week, with lots of social plans (mostly for my girls! Sonia and Zoe had 4 sleepovers in 5 days.)

So, I'm not sure I'd have found time to blog even if I'd planned to.

Anyway, to get me back into the blogging groove, here are the top five posts I wrote in 2017.

1. Stitch Fix. And also Stitch Fix. Plus: Stitch Fix.

My October Stitch Fix post is the most viewed post I wrote in 2017.

My September Stitch Fix Post is number three.

And my November Stitch Fix (the one with the flying squirrel sweater!) is the fifth most popular post of 2017.

Some readers really dislike my Stitch Fix posts, but one thing is for certain: an awful lot of people do read them.

Which I completely understand...seeing non-models try on clothes is so much fun.   I will almost always click on over to read a Stitch Fix review on someone else's blog!

2. An honest review of Dinnerly.

I wrote a review post about this more budget-friendly dinner box service, and lots of people read it.   It's the second most popular post of 2017!

3. If you can't do it all, do these three things.

When life gets temporarily busy, you have to drop something from your life.   There are three things I focus on at times like these, and I let the other stuff go.

(Technically, a Stitch Fix post was #3 and #5, but it'd be very boring if ⅗ in this list were Stitch Fix! So I just picked the next most viewed posts.)

4. I did something stupid and it cost me $50.

Popular because: it's always fun to read about someone else's dumb mistakes. 😉

5. What I learned in 2016.

I wrote this post in January of last year, sharing some kind of big things I learned.

Aaand, that makes five.

(well, 8, because of the Stitch Fix posts. Bonus 3!)

I made my Stitch Fix deliveries a little less frequent, which is why I didn't have one in December.   But I do believe one is headed my way in January.

I feel like this is going to call for some freezing cold outdoor modeling.

Or some shots in poor indoor lighting.

This is a hard choice: personal comfort, or good lighting?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to come down on the side of good lighting. 😉

    1. Best of the New Year, Kristen & your readers!

Me? I am still luven my Moen kitchen faucet. I arrive home after minding world's business & find myself WANTING to wash the dishes!!! The flexibility of the device enchants me.

& One frugal item here: While I have and enjoy my hand held electric mixer, I find that using such to soften cooked vegies, the carrots' for instance is a tad dangerous for an oldster with somewhat poor eyesight. So, I downloaded the other day a recipe for curried soup & the author of the article suggested that after softening carrots, yams, potatoes, say -- you take -- get ths -- a slotted spoon to lift out the carrots, so forth. Wow! Just like grandma would have done!

And the soup? Excellent! (With crackers & cheese!)

      Best,
Richard Zorniak in a relatively balming Vancouver BC!

  1. I'm not surprised to see Stitch Fix as the most popular posts. We love seeing the woman behind the blog! Keep up the awesome work in 2018!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I'm now headed off to read two of your older posts I haven't yet read!

  3. Happy New Year! I'm so surprised that Stitch Fix rated so high. Not that I don't like those posts, because I do. I just expected some of your more personal posts, like when you revealed how you've changed in the last year or so, to be a more popular read. Perhaps just because those are my favorite kind of posts. 🙂 As is your list to be thankful for around Thanksgiving each year. In any event, I love basically everything you post. Keep up the good work!

    1. Oh, that one was definitely up there...and as you see, it did make my adjusted list, coming in at number 5. 🙂

  4. Great list! I've read all of the posts you mentioned above except for "What I learned in 2016." I will need to read it as well. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year! 🙂

  5. Oops, I'm lazy so I always opt for "comfort" over "good lighting." 🙂 Love to see that 2017 was a banner year for the blog and life! I'm excited to see the good and the bad that comes with a new year. They sure do fly by, don't they?

    1. Yes! Good lightening is important for eyesight and comfort. I understand the new(ish) still rather expensive LED lights are the way to go. The other day I was visiting a medical specialist here in Vancouver BC & the medical department @ UBC Hospital had been renovated. The new lighting seemed very easy on the eyesight. I wanted to bring in a book to read and just lounge on one of the new chairs! Oh, & the appointment? It went well-enough.

  6. Go to thrift store and post a stitch- thrift post. I do every so often. Even try things on and take pics in store to give folks ideas

  7. I'm surprised at the Stitch Fix post placements, too, although I always read them. In fact, I read all of them unless I'm away from the computer for a day or so. I like them all, but five frugal things and the thankful lists are usually my favorites.
    Happy New Year to all!

  8. The stitch fix posts are always fun because of the surprise of what they send. Even though it's not traditionally thrifty it IS thrifty for you because of all the extra traffic, lol!

  9. Happy New Year to you, too! As a person who tried Stitch Fix this year, too, I read those posts with great interest 🙂 But I read all of your posts, so I think I would have enjoyed them no matter what.

  10. I don't have a comment about the topic of today's post--I just was comparing your hairstyle in the different pictures and wanted to let you know that I really like your new cut. (Yes, I know you've had it for awhile, but it was a new thing you tried in 2017 and I think it looks great--wanted to let you know that!). 🙂

    1. I thought the same thing as I was looking through the photos...I got the shorter hair for my Halloween costume, but I think I actually kinda like it!

  11. Hey Kristen! I think your blog posts are popular because your honesty comes through no matter what the topic! I have learned so much from you and your readers! Happy New Year!
