Thankful Thursday | with some cat photos

New here? Thankful Thursday is our weekly opportunity to practice hunting for the good in our lives, even when the world feels hard. It's free! It might boost your mood! Join us!

This week, I am thankful:

for the cute cats we get to see every week

Sonia sitting next to a cat.

Cat with pink nose in cage.

Sonia is my cat shift companion most of the time, and all those kitties lift our spirits every time.

Kristen holding a kitten.
I did not want to put this guy back in his cage!

for the spring-like weather

We've been having some lovely warm days lately. Combined with the longer days, it's starting to feel like spring!

that I'm keeping up in my biology class

It is confirmed: my 42-year-old brain can still hold new information.

Although this week, we are on the Krebs cycle, and I feel like this brain is holding on by a thin strand!

for all the ways I get to help other people

Even in the midst of these crazy, isolated times, God has still given me so many opportunities to serve the people around me.

As Laura Vanderkam often says, "People are a good use of time." And I am thankful for opportunities to do something as meaningful as helping people.

for the lovely people who read this blog

I often think about how grateful I am for the people in this community. You all are so helpful and kind to each other, and that makes me really happy!

that it's 2021 and not 2020

I am remembering last year at this time, which was the start of our world turning upside down.

I am so glad that we have gotten a year of this over with, and that there's a light at the end of the tunnel. This spring feels so much more hopeful than last spring did.

that my family and I are all ok, a year in

I do have some relatives that have gotten sick, but mercifully, they have all recovered.

for my older brother

He always has good advice for me, and he is so good at reminding me to focus on what is in my control (me) and not on what is outside of my control (literally everything else!)

for my sister-in-law-to-be

Engaged couple on a bench in the snow

The aforementioned older brother is getting married this year, and I think his fiancé is delightful. I'm so glad to be gaining her as a new sister.

for the interesting way the sky changes

Blue sky with quilted clouds.

I love to look at the clouds and I think it's so fascinating to notice all the different looks the same sky can have from day to day.

blue sky with tiny clouds
Almost the exact same spot at the exact same time as the above photo; just a different day.

that beauty can exist despite the ugly

This is the river view from a bridge near my house.

View from a bridge down a river.

And this is what that bridge looks like; old, narrow, ugly.

Ugly bridge with cement guardrails.

If you look left, you see the ugly. If you look right, you see the beauty.

I'm thankful that the beautiful view exists! And that the ugly parts don't erase the beautiful parts.

There's probably a metaphor for life there.

for the coffee and oatmeal I'm about to have

As soon as I hit publish on this post, I'm off to have breakfast.

I love breakfast! At our house, it's a meal where we all fend for ourselves, so I am completely free to eat whatever I want without working around anyone else's allergies or preferences.

What are you thankful for this week?

  1. I'm thankful that in 12 years of nursing, I have never needed to know the Krebs cycle, since it nearly melted my brain in first year!

    1. Ha ha same! I was an RN for 8 years and I never needed that information, lol. A&P and microbiology almost sent me packing!

  2. --For access to the old school gym in our ghost-village. We've used it a lot during this terribly windy spring break, just to get out of the house and not have to battle wind.

--For the frozen blueberries my husband brought home from the store. We haven't had blueberries in a LONG time, and they're my favorite for yogurt. Plain yogurt, blueberries, toasted nuts--did you know you can toast nuts in the microwave? life changing--and cinnamon, and I don't even muiss maple syrup. Well, not much. 🙂

--For children that like to read. The only quiet times in the house all day are when they are reading. At least, the older ones. The youngest boy is just learning, and is very motivated to do it because his older brothers are always reading.

--For the random games and books given to me by a retired teacher at the school who was cleaning out things her own children used when they were young. We now have a vintage Game of Life (that I can't stand playing--it's so looooong--but my children love it), and it inspired my eldest son to create his own board game. That occupied him for some time. There was also a cribbage board, but I was too confused by the rules for that game when I read them. I think you have to learn that one from someone who knows how to play it. My middle son used to the board to create his own game, though. So many games this week.

--For the kitchen knowledge to deal with the very tough--but free!--bull meat in my freezer. My younger self would have not known how to make that palatable.

--For garden work. Planting and planning makes me so happy every spring. Gardening is an inherently optimistic activity, and that is always appreciated.

    1. Sure would like a bit of an explanation on your "ghost village." My mind is running rampant with pictures of floating ectoplasm up and down the main street.

      1. Not ghost in the sense of haunted, just ghost in the sense of no longer populated. Like a ghost town, but a lot smaller (population: 17).

          1. Much, much larger--about 400 people. It was on the railroad, and as the song says, "The train don't stop here anymore." (The song is actually about something very different, but the title is appropriate.)

          1. Yup. And the percentage is actually more, because when I thought about it, I realized one person moved and one household isn't technically within the village, but across the main road. So really, there are only 13 people.

Also, for Anne: There are very few emtpy buildings here. When the people all left, most of the frame buildings were dragged on skids by horse or oxen to the village ten miles away, leaving only a few stone and adobe structures. You may find it sad, but my children think its the best playground ever. 🙂

      1. Yep! Your post from last week just needed to be kicked out of moderation and from there on, you're good to go.

You saw your that your last comment did get published, right? Just wanted to make sure you didn't think it was gone!

Let me know if your comments ever don't appear in the future; sometimes the system marks even long-time commenters as spam, so if you let me know, I can always go hunting through the filters to find you.

  3. 1. I am also thankful for the wonderful weather we are having right now. The warm sunshine in the spring always energizes me.
    2. I am grateful for the Covid vaccine. Both my husband and I have been fully vaccinated now and with less restrictions we can finally celebrate the holidays. Our family will be gathering for Easter dinner.

There is a multitude of other things I am thankful for, but these 2 things are foremost in my mind this morning.

  4. Due to a fluke and stroke of luck both of us were able to get the vac on Monday. It potentially means we can start seeing our dads.

Other than a sore arm and extreme fatigue I feel good afterwards.

Hubs is picking up dinner tonight at local Chinese place. Thankful I don't have to cook and their food is so good.

The shampoo for itching I have been using on my dog is working well. So far it may save me a vet visit.

The temps have been close to 60 so able to get some short walks with the dogs.

  5. I am also thankful for our wonderful weather this week, because it is allowing me to take a day off from work tomorrow to have an outdoor visit with three of my six sisters and one of my three brothers. I do miss the sibling get-togethers.

  6. My first one is easy -- I'm super thankful for the 7th birthday of a lovely little granddaughter today.

I am thankful for the lighting salesman who told me not to get an outdoor post lamp pole with a dusk to dawn sensor built into it, because if the sensor breaks, the whole pole has to be replaced; he advised me to get a separate sensor and a plain pole. While looking for a sensor, I found an LED outdoor bulb with the sensor built in it, plus I got my husband's veteran discount on the bulb. It is working perfectly -- on at dusk, off at daylight. I paid less than half the cost of a sensor pole by buying a plain pole and using this bulb.

I'm thankful that tomorrow is Friday because we leave work a little early on Fridays.

I'm thankful that I gritted my teeth last Friday and made myself shop for two weeks instead of one, since I knew I would have a busy Friday and Saturday this weekend.

I'm thankful for the blooming dogwood trees in our yard.

I'm grateful to whoever it was here who suggested the gluten-free Oreos. I avoid sugar, but now and then allow myself a small sweet snack. Yeah, they are good. I found them at Publix.

  7. that little kitty you are holding is so adorable! I'm not a cat person, but this guy has my heart. so handsome! the look on his face kills me.

it's late evening for me, I will clean up the kitchen and use that time to think about what I am grateful for today.

    enjoy your breakfast!

  8. This is always such a wonderful way to start my Thursday and always appreciate your thoughts and others’. I’m thankful for:

    - My sister is having her baby on Monday so I will have a new nephew! She had a very rough pregnancy so I’m glad her body will hopefully be able to recover quickly too and she won’t be in so much pain.
    - my girls are on spring break next week and I’m taking the whole week off from work so very much looking forward to a lot of family time!
    - so glad spring weather is here!

  9. I have a lot to be thankful for this week.
-We have a date for my 9th grader to finally return to school. One year + later. April 19th!
-We also have a date for my 8th grader to return to school, a few weeks earlier than the 9th grader. 1st week of April!
-My 9th grader made the high school soccer team, and seeing kids he's never met, but he's been on Zoom calls for months with has been a huge win for him. Being social, being at the high school, playing soccer, learning... it's been a huge positive.
-Our newly planted tulip tree is blossoming, and it's beautiful
-I'm growing a bunch of plants from seeds, and it's exciting to see their progress each day
-I'm in the next vaccine tier, and have an appointment scheduled! I have an underlying medical condition which would make COVID potentially quite serious, so I'm grateful that I will have likely both doses before my oldest goes back to school

  10. I am thankful that my state is finally, finally opening up vaccine to more people. I'm going to have to drive a ways, but I cannot wait to get it.
I am thankful that we have a wonderful specialist for my daughter, recently diagnosed with an autonomic nervous system disorder. Life has been hell but I'm cautiously optimistic that we are turning the corner.
And I'm thankful I've finally figured out the insurance and filing claims and tracking all the expenses because it adds up fast. We've always been a healthy family, so there was no need to know this stuff. We never had a chance to meet deductibles or OOP.
I am so, so thankful that Spring is here!
I'm thankful for my college freshman. Aforementioned vaccine means I can fly to California to visit her soon.

  11. I adore the cat pictures. I contribute monthly to two different animal shelters but I simply can not work in them. I would leave each week with every pocket filled with a cat. So I make up for it by adopting every cat that passes through our yard. I was up to about 7 a week ago but I think animal control swept through the neighborhood and picked up a lot of ferals. I'm down to two who live here permanently and two big freeloaders who come by each night for extra food.

  12. -Thankful that I was able to get my first vaccination this week. My mother also got her first round. Now to find my hubby and dad an appointment.
-Happy to have the warmer weather and the longer day light as well. My kids and I can get out and get some fresh air. We all sleep much better when we've been outside.
-Quieter days here at work. The large event that I plan each year is officially OVER! I can not breath a bit easier.
-So thankful I have a sense of humor and can laugh about things that go wrong. I had a few flubs (of my own fault this week) when it came to my dr. appts. that were scheduled this week. I drove to the wrong place for one appt. and then had the wrong date down for another. I just laughed about it. I could have been very down on myself, but I've decided to laugh about thing when they go wrong.

  13. Kristen, I love the look of that kitten you are holding. He looks like such a sweet little dude! The Krebs cycle like to have done me in 40 years ago in college bio. I'd hate to see my brain try to take it on now.

Thankfulness: 1. Despite a comedy of errors, I am finally scheduled for a first Covid vaccine in a week. 2. Daffodils blooming in our neighborhood. 3. A good friend who struggled all year with illness and inadequate housing finally getting his own place last week. 4. A handful of store coupons plus sales that knocked $14 and some change off our grocery total this week. 5. Getting caught up on most of my mending pile.

  14. For the lovely warm weather we have enjoyed this week. It has all the trees and flowers budding which has brought allergies to the forefront but it is so lovely to feel the warm sun on your face and sit out on the back deck after dinner in the evenings. Gosh I just love Spring.

For the wisdom of 'this too shall pass'. I too have been reflecting on the last year, how it unfolded, and all the madness it brought with it. I am reminded this week that although there are many things in our lives that we would like to be different, changed, or even removed...there is always a purpose and 'this too shall pass'.

For the birds. We live on over an acre of land and there are a ton of trees in our yard. When I open our back door the bird song is just beautiful. We have cardinals, sparrows, finches, hummingbirds, robins and even a pair of hawks that come to clean up any squirrels or rabbits that has passed away. I have not yet planted our Spring garden or any flowers and the birds are already so happy.

For the ability to plan a vacation. We are in need of a break from the everyday and it is a comfort to know that we can escape to the beach this year without the stress of last year. We won't be eating in restaurants or gathering in crowds but will spend a blissful week outdoors and for that I am so grateful.

We are on a waitlist for the vaccine. My husband and my mother are both very high risk and I am hopeful that we can get vaccinated quickly and put the majority of the risk behind us.

    Enjoy the week!

  15. I'm thankful that after 400 miles for a visit to dh's Neurologist (from a stroke) and his Cardiologist (from a 6 bypass operation last July), he got good reports from both. We have a checkup at our GP - diabetes and high blood pressure - a few weeks from now - yep, another 200 mile roundtrip - then we will be good for another 3 months but I'll space them out better.

Our dd spent the week decorating her new classroom, even though she'll still be teaching online. It's a new job at a new school, so we are excited for her.

Thankful that we only have a few more weeks until we can get our vaccinations. Was that NC thinks fishery workers and Uber drivers are more important than people with multiple medical issues. I'm half tempted to lie for him, but knowing our luck, they would make us wait even longer if we got caught.

  16. 1. Funny coworkers. When things get overwhelming or stressful at work, they lighten the mood for everyone.

    2. A warm day today. It's making me think ahead towards summertime!

    3. The verse in the Bible that says "a soft answer turns away wrath." I've seen this played out so many times in my life, with myself and others. It usually just takes a kind word or a smile to diffuse a situation that might otherwise escalate into something bad.

    4. The online book club that my daughter and I are doing this month, on racism. It's being hosted by our local library and three high schools, and facilitated by students. It gives me hope for the future. (By the way, how are these high schoolers so articulate? I think I could barely string two sentences together when I was a teenager.)

  17. 1. The warmer weather! We've been enjoying days in the low 70s. The windows are open. 🙂

    2. For vaccines. Most of the people I've been most panicked about are now fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated, or have an appointment in the next week.

  18. That the sheer amount and scope of work I do has been identified and recognized at work. Whether any changes come about is unknown but at least people can't accuse me of sitting with my hands in my pockets.

That I have a working phone again. The repair shop is still trying to work on my old one and hopefully I can recover my pictures but it's nice to have a new phone.

That outside of some sniffles here and there I haven't been sick in a long time. No one in my family has been sick either.

That I get to do some traveling for work today (just around the county but it's nice to be out of my office at least.)

That Spring is right around the corner. Almost time to start planting.

That I have the money to do some home projects this year. We've already signed up for information about some new doors. My wife and I are going back and forth on redoing our kitchen or at the very least just planning it out.

    1. I am thankful that the age requirement for the vaccine has been lowered in my state, making me eligible.

  19. 1. So, so thankful that my pregnancy-related nausea is starting to recede. It's been nearly ten weeks of feeling bleh but it seems like better feelings will (slowly...so slowly...) come.

    2. I finally got my first vaccine dose!

    3. It's warm-ish! It's sunny! It's so pleasant to be outside right now.

    4. Everyone in my family has, so far, been healthy.

    5. I remain exhausted, but my husband gamely took over nearly all the housework so that I can rest.

    1. Congratulations. I'm so glad you're feeling better; that nausea/vomiting was absolutely no fun. Overwhelming.

  20. I am a sky person too. My phone is filled with photographs of sunrises, sunsets, and moon rises. It amazes me how nature celebrates the beginning and the ending of every day with an explosion of color.
    • I am thankful that I didn’t know what 2020 had in store for us.
    • We are blessed in Florida with beautiful weather this week. I actually am not a fan of Florida’s weather. The heat and humidity that marks our summers is often unbearable. So I’m enjoying this gorgeous cool, dry spring weather.
    • I am happy that I was finally able to see my sister-in-law. She is a bit older than I am and socially distanced for the majority of the last 12 months. She has had both her vaccines and was finally comfortable visiting with family.
    • I am thankful that my husband has gotten some much-deserved recognition at work. He is a high tech field, and sometimes he feels like the old man in the group. It nice to know that experience is important.
    • I am thankful for Antihistamines so I can enjoy the azaleas and spring weather without hives and sniffles.

    1. I have thought that SO many times; if I had known a year ago what was coming, I would have been so depressed. Sometimes it is such a mercy that we don't see what's coming.

  21. Do you know the poet Mary Oliver? She wrote a beautiful poem called The Ponds, which I think of all the time when I’m noticing both beauty and ugliness at the same time. It’s about the idea that “the imperfections are nothing... the light is everything.” Your photo of the bridge versus the river view just made me think of it - it’s fairly short, and I bet you and readers of this blog particularly would like it!

    https://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/Poets/O/OliverMary/Ponds/index.html

  22. I am thankful for the proposed federal "Sunshine Protection Act of 2021". How's that for a carefully crafted name? How can anyone vote against sunshine?
The intent is that after the clocks change this March for daylight savings time, the time would remain, and clocks would not be changed again in either fall or spring.
I realize not everyone will agree with me. The older I get, the more I feel the jet-lag feeling of adjusting for several days after the current changes, and I would like to just leave the clocks alone.

    1. I wouldn't mind the clocks not changing but I would rather keep it where its at right now and not lose the hour this coming sunday and then not get it back in the fall because I personally prefer the early sunrises than having more hours of daylight in the evening, but I guess that's just me. I would vote against it unless it allowed the clocks to fall back again in the fall and then staying that way.

      1. I prefer an earlier sunrise too. I have a difficult time waking up in the morning when the sun rises later in the day. I am one of those people that could naturally go to sleep when it gets dark and wake up with the roosters. When I visited Alaska, I didn’t want to sleep at all. Too much daylight!

      2. Oh, I understand liking the morning light best! and using it to get the day going sooner.
Perhaps an amendment to the proposal will be in order.

  23. Thankful for -
Hubby & I received our 1st Covid-19 vaccine last week
Tax software that makes filing taxes clear-cut & relatively easy
Leftovers - for the last 2 weeks, supper has been a no-brainer at least half the time
Warmer weather. It has been a nice reprieve from February’s snow & cold
More energy. Most of the time I’m “behind the 8 ball”, but this week I’ve been on top of things

  24. I remember learning the Krebs Cycle in high school biology and my impression about it ever after is it's the HARDEST thing you will ever learn in biology. So once you've nailed it (and you will) everything else is gravy.

OTOH, I was humbled in that my daughter was taught the Krebs Cycle in 6th grade just in a regular old life science class--nothing advanced. And she mastered it.

I am thankful for the accomplishment I felt for having learned it all those many years ago.

    1. Yes! I figure that college is the only time I'm going to actually use the Krebs cycle. Once I'm a nurse, no one is going to quiz me on it.

I am content just remembering that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Ha.

  25. Thankful that my extended family gets along (for the most part). To that end, thankful my parents have the space and the willingness to let us stay with them while in between houses. And that my husband is cool with them and they're cool with him (mutual respect, patience and kindness on both sides of the equasion). That we had some rain but that the skies are blue now. That it was windy enough to fly a kite which brought delight to my daughter. That she's delighted by such a simple thing and for the joy that sparks in me. That my kids are engaged students and that I've been lucky enough to witness their learning process and hard work. That my husband handles the taxes. For Trader Joe's mini cones...they're just so perfect and they really hit the spot.

  26. - I'm grateful that my parents are getting vaccinated! My mom was hesitant, but signed up and is getting her first dose in less than a week. My dad got his first dose a few days ago.

-Last year all my birthday plans were canceled due to the start of the pandemic, but this year I was able to celebrate with some friends who had received both doses of the vaccine. We went to dinner and it was delightful! I also had a backyard dinner with my mom and sister's family the day before my birthday, which was fun!

    - I really love that the days are getting longer and slightlyyyy warmer. We get an extra hour of light starting next week and that will mean more evening walks after work, which I love!

-I was really frustrated with my wardrobe, but was able to buy one new sweater and one new pair of pants and have been able to put some combinations together that I really like and now I feel really content!

-I feel really blessed to have a good support system of people around me. Even though being single in my 30's isn't my ideal situation, I have close relationships with my immediate and extended family, friends near and far, and two delightful roommates. (I primarily have roommates for social, not financial reasons, but it is also good for frugality.)

  27. Thankful for spring forward—and warmer weather, what a lift to spend more time outside in the sun.

Thankful for healthcare and great nurses. I’m facing a procedure this June and it requires tests beforehand — nurses are so wonderful and compassionate. They are helping me through my anxiety

Thankful for my students, they are plugging away despite how hard things are and it makes me keep going.

  28. I'm thankful that my oldest son (16) is self-motivated to do grown up things like get his own checking account, get a job, etc.

I'm thankful that I made a menu at the beginning of the week and have been able to stick to it.

    I'm thankful for the weather.

I'm thankful that my husband and my children began a garden project for me while I was inside this afternoon doing school with another child.

This might sound strange (and I can't quite believe I'm typing this), but I'm thankful that my husband likes playing video games because when our children are allowed to use electronics that way, they most often choose to play something with him. And if I'm abandoning my children to electronics, I'm at least happy that they're bonding with their father at the same time.

I'm thankful that my wedding ring fits again now that my wound has mostly healed. I am thankful that I have learned my lesson to wear leather gloves in my next battle with the rose bush.

I am thankful for the smell of chicken frying.

  29. Thankful for hardworking feisty coworkers. Thankful for beautiful weather this week in MOTOR CITY. Thankful heating pads. Thankful for fresh air and clean drinking water.

  30. 1. My husband and I had our first vaccine dose Monday. I had a little arm soreness for a few hours and fatigue for a day. My husband had arm soreness and fatigue for 36 hours. We are both now feeling good.
    2. My brother had his the week before us. We will all be fully vaccinated by mid-April and are looking forward to seeing each other in person this summer.
    3. My co-workers will all be eligible next week as we work for an essential public-facing non-profit. (I have medical issues that made me eligible a bit sooner.) I am happy for them, they are really nice people to work with.
    4. The friend who brought me a chocolate bar with bacon and smoked salt in it. Holy cow it was good!!!
    5. The cat photos you post Kristen. Those kitties are cuteness overload!

  31. Thankful that:
    1. Alaska has now opened the vaccine to anyone over the age of 16. In some areas the vaccine rate is 90%. I am sure it is because the elders remember hearing how their grandparents were killed and entire villages were wiped out in the 1918 flu epidemic, so they have been featured urging people to get vaccinated for themselves and for others. The computer system for getting the appointment could still use some work, but if you are not getting through, there is a number to call. If you get Meals on Wheels they will bring a nurse to administer the vaccine so you don't have to leave home. Nurses on snow machines have gone village to village inoculating people. I am very proud of how well we have done.
    2. That the stimulus bill passed, for everyone who needs it but especially for my 58 year old friend who lost her job and has eaten through her savings this last year. The money cannot come soon enough for her. Friends and the food bank have kept her from starving and our utility system has a program where you can round up your bill to the next dollar, with the money going to a fund for people who cannot afford their electric bill. But it still has been hard on her.
    3. I don't like the increasing daylight but my chickens sure do, producing more eggs than ever.
    4. I ended up in the ER again, ruining my record of keeping out of there for about 14 months now. But I was reminded of how well designed our hospital is, since it serves as the hub hospital for all of northern Alaska. I was so well treated by every single person I came in contact with.
    5. That the hospital is back to allowing one person to be with you in the ER, so you are not lying there terrified and alone. I'm fine now but having my husband there kept me from completely wigging out.

  32. I'm grateful for the lovely weather we've had this week. I have been outside quite a bit and was even able to attend a yoga class outdoors for the first time since December (it was bliss).

The beauty of the spring bulbs and wild flowers as well as trees starting to leaf out.

I am so thankful for the additional daylight. Everything feels lighter and brighter to me.

    My continued good health.

Friends and family. We stay connected as best we can while being Covid safe.

That every week I know more people that have received their Covid vaccine(s).

Food is plentiful in the grocery store and we are in no danger of growing hungry.

Online shoe shopping. The selection is so much greater than in a physical store. I am no Eva Peron but I do have a hard time finding shows that fit my "Irish clodhoppers". I needed new walking shoes and now I have some.

The USPS seems to be doing a better job. I sent a package to relatives and it looks like Priority mail will only take about four days. I also love that they will pick up packages at no charge.

That virtual meetings allow you to expand your reach.

  33. Those morning I was listening to a Before Breakfast podcast from a couple of weeks ago and Laura said, "People are a good use of time." I appreciated the reminder.

Today I'm thankful for the spring weather we've been having and to have had the chance to watch my children play at the playground.
I'm thankful that our cats have adjusted so well to our house and that my kids love them so much.
I'm thankful for this practice. I needed it today. Thanks, Kristen.

    1. Also... I'm thankful that our regular mailman is back!! We had the best mailman in 2020 and I hadn't seen him in almost 2 months. I was afraid he got moved somewhere else, but he was back yesterday and said that he just took a bunch of time off after a long couple of years. I'm glad he got that time off and glad to have him back in our neighborhood!

  34. 1. Again, I have to say my Monday walks. The age of our group is 65 and up. Thankfully they are all adventurous. I search out places within about a 20 mile radius. Last week with was along Eel River, Plymouth, MA. And there was a beautiful bridge in the middle of the woods crossing the river.
    2. Tuesday I took another walk more locally with another friend
    3. The lovely, moving toward spring weather this week. Today we took the 2.5, 6, and 9 yr olds to the playground. There were so many there. I pay a lot of attention to the interaction because my youngest grandson, 2.5 yrs, has only played with his older cousins, the youngest being 6.
    4. My new Lodge dutch oven that made a lovely quick dinner tonight. I bought the pan to make the no knead bread amongst other delicious foods.
    5. I had an enjoyable kundalini class on zoom tonight.

  35. I seriously looooove the pic of the little kitten. He looks like he's gonna do some baking with those oven mitts. Lol <3
    1. I'm thankful for the sunny warmer weather. My girls have played outside all day for the last two days and what a refreshing change of pace it's been.
    2. For the grandparents who took our three oldest kids for a sleepover tonight. We have just the baby tonight and it seems like a vacation!
    3. For my husband who will get up with the baby and let me sleep in tomorrow morning. God bless him!
    4. That even though some poison ivy appeared on one of my kid's arms yesterday, it hasn't spread and it didn't appear on any of the rest of us, thank goodness.
    5. For my four unbelievably wonderful kids. Somehow we have four beautiful children after being told we couldn't have any, and I am eternally humbled and grateful every day.

  36. *That we were home and saw the fire in our dog's house (from a faulty heat lamp) just as it was catching our porch on fire and before the house caught too. And that the burn I got putting it out is reasonably minor and everyone - pets and house included - is fine. So grateful!

*That we found out about my husband's identity being stolen before things got very deep. My "other husband" got about $8,000 in unemployment money, but it's stopped now, hopefully.

*That our state has stepped back the mask mandates here. I full appreciate that there are many thoughts on the issue, but I'm sure enjoying the chance to see people smile again.

    *SPRING!!!!!!!

  37. This doesn't have to do with thankfulness, but I was intrigued by you saying everyone fends for themselves at breakfast. We kinda do that here too. I'd love more detail on when you started doing that with your kids and how you let them know what's available and what can't be eaten.

    1. Boy, I'm not sure when that started happening. It probably was a very gradual transition as each kid got old enough to manage their own breakfast prep.

They're pretty good about asking if they're not sure what's available or what can't be eaten. And I try to be good about communicating in particular to Sonia about what I've bought, since her options are more limited, even with things like produce. So when I finish shopping, I try to communicate things like, "Hey, I bought you some strawberries; they're in the fruit drawer. And I got you some non-dairy yogurt."

  38. Along with my many blessings I’m thankful for this community of people whose aim is often to help others. The inspiration I’ve received from reading the posts have caused me to look around in my real life coo to see where I could lend a hand and make a difference.

Thanks Kristen for keeping these thankful posts coming, and I see the numbers growing every week!
