Today I am...
nursing a cold I came down with on Friday.
grateful that at least I didn't come down with it on Christmas weekend.
drinking a green smoothie.
planning to drink tea after that. I am totally going to drown this cold, people.
hoping to get my house into a less messy state.
also hoping to get the present situation more organized. My bedroom currently looks like an Amazon warehouse exploded.
happy that Mr. FG, Sonia, Zoe and I had a hilarious time trying out the game Snake Oil last night.
planning to do some planning...I need to make a menu plan, and I also need to do some music planning for church.
(Why yes, I am indeed a J on the Myers Briggs scale.)
happy that we are off of school this week. Woohoo!
relieved that almost all of my dissolving stitches have fallen out of my nose (they get uncomfortable after a while). Only one is left, and I think my doctor might remove that one for me at my checkup this week.
(In case you missed it, I had functional rhinoplasty in mid-November.)
enjoying the sunshine. One nice thing about the leaves being gone now is that my house is brighter than in early fall, even though the sun isn't getting high in the sky these days.
remembering that we are ALMOST to the shortest day of the year here. Yay! The days will start getting longer again so so soon.
This does not mean that warmer weather is nigh (quite the opposite), but you gotta take what you can get. 😉
Alrighty...I'd better get to brewing my tea. And planning my planning.
If you want to, you can play along in the comments and list a few "Today I'm..." things of your own.

Today I was going to wash dishes, do several loads of laundry, and straighten up my house. Today I am going to take my boys to hang out at Grandma's because our well went out...
Oh no! I'm so sorry about your well.
But I hope the day at Grandma's is fun.
Today I am----
...Passing Out roughly 150 cookies and 65 pieces of fudge to 16 people at work (on holiday-themed plates that I purchased from Goodwill for 50 cents to $1. They get to keep these).
...eating healthy. The holiday has so much room for eating non-fruits/vegetables. I have to make an effort!
...Feeling grateful I am able to bless others with baking recipes!
....Working. At work. Rooting for no meetings today!
Today I'm pretending that we aren't not homeschooling. Today the children and I are wrapping Daddy's presents. Today I'm grading last week's school work. Today I'm hoping to get to the Christmas cards. Today I'm eating leftovers. Today I'm wishing I had some good dark chocolate.
-Also attempting to drown illness in tea and other liquids (chest congestion and a cough).
-Working through a Dayquil haze (I took it to control the cough).
-Hoping this cough doesn't linger so I can get back to winter, off-season training. It's hard to run or bike with chest congestion. Swimming works OK if I take it easy but the sub-freezing temps I need to bike through to get to the gym make it less than feasible.
Hoping this same cough doesn't impede flute practice. If it does, well, etudes don't have to sound gorgeous to be helpful.
-Quite happy I felt well enough yesterday to make a big lunch so we can have dinner tonight without cooking.
-Glad that I work for a university so I get a nice holiday break even if it shorter than the students'.
Oh no! I hope you get well soon! Mr. Picky Pincher is nursing a man-cold, which is a whinier version of a regular cold. 😉
Today I'm...
enjoying a two-week on-call period for work! That means I can stay at home and only work as needed. I love it!
eating leftover steak from yesterday for lunch. Call me spoiled. 🙂
finishing up a few DIY presents. One is food-related and one is a craft project, but they shouldn't be too bad to tackle.
mixing up a ciabatta biga. I plan on making a loaf of ciabatta bread tomorrow, so I'll need to start the biga (or "sponge") tonight so it can ferment for baking tomorrow. I'll give the ciabatta away as a present this weekend while we host Christmas Eve.
today i am
listening to Christmas music
watching the fire from my electric fire place (hey you take what you got lol)
wrapping Christmas presents
Today I am:
Still recovering from a brief but very virulent stomach bug that hit me Friday.
Finalizing some end-of-year business stuff because 2016 was the first time we had employees and sold merchandize. So how to pay bonuses, how to get our inventory in quickbooks, making sure what I deposited in the Roth IRAs matches the employees' W2s . . .
Frantically shopping around for a new to us dining room table that will comfortable fit five adults for dinner tomorrow night.
Meeting my aunt at her work to borrow her bundt pan to make a cake for dinner tomorrow night.
Grading the rest of my final exams (hopefully!).
Picking up a few odds and ends to finish Christmas shopping: fabric to make blankets for the kids, a dish drainer that my mama wants (she is where I get my practicality), strike anywhere matches for my daddy (he's pretty practical too).
Returning library books.
Making bread and roasting chicken as we do every Monday so we have the goods on hand for an easy sandwich or salad. It prevents us from picking up restaurant food.
Well, I better get to work!
The stomach bug is SO hard. Glad you're over it now.
Grandma used to say "when the day lengthens, the cold strengthens". I always think of that when the days start getting longer.
So true. January and February are always our coldest months and they're also when we're more likely to get snow.
But at least it will be light longer!
Today I am:
- working at work, trying to get some big project done before the end of this week
- when i get home, folding some laundry, making dinner, doing dishes & hopefully wrapping a few gifts.
-enjoying a little grand baby cooing and crawling around
-thankful for Amazon prime
-keeping Amazon up and running (see previous entry!)
-grateful for crockpots and freezers - one that cooks while I watch that little baby and the other that keeps the food for cooking
-joyful for this season of Christmas that reminds me to be an agent of grace, hope, and peace
Today I am...
...finishing up on painting the storage room turned office in the basement. It has bare concrete floors and lots of rough edges but now it is going to be clean and pretty.
...trying to get caught up on the dishes and messy kitchen while making lunch and cleaning up from painting. My husband asked me how I felt at lunch and I said, "Overwhelmed." He commented that I say that a lot. I got a bit salty (not surprising considering I was, in fact, feeling overwhelmed) and pointed out sharply that a person in charge of managing the lives of 3 boys, our small pest control business, nearly all of the house duties due to said husband working so much and all of our Christmas work in terms of presents and party prep is liable to feel overwhelmed a lot!
...now reading quietly and breathing deeply. It is better than angrily washing knives and forks. Ow.
Today I am
watching a little baby in addition to my two own and remembering how little 5 months old is.
baking because its cold.
sleepy because I had to take benedryl last night after reacting to something.
savoring the cold crisp air (single digits this morning!!) the blue skies and the tiny bit of snow on the ground as I miss home in Alaska.
treasuring the moments and I have with the kids, trying to capture every moment before they suddenly grow up.
remembering that most in this world do not have an easy life, and praying for those who are losing their homes and facing terrible circumstances, especially in Syria and South Sudan.
waiting for Christmas, resting in the fulfilled promise of the Messiah coming to Earth and waiting for Him to return again to bring the completion of perfect peace that He promises.
... glad I mostly evaded the stomach bug going around
... realizing I haven't totally evaded it: feeling bloated and not on the ball
... wondering if I should have taken a sick day after all (but I'm already behind due to a great-but-time-consuming last-minute assignment)
... pleased at how much cooking I got done over the weekend (long-simmering meat marinara, chix-shroom stew, cream of spinach soup, other stuff; all of which used foods I have on hand)
... irked at my unpleasant neighbor, whose yard team blew some leaves over the fence (not deliberately, but definitely carelessly); thanks, dude, because I really needed those extra leaves in my yard
... wondering if I'll be able to get to my martial arts class tonight; sick or not, tonight is one of the few opportunities this week
Recuperating from a sinus infection and earache, trying to communicate with my kids while losing my voice.
Taking the week off school and decluttering and packing.
Praying that we get the house we're making an offer on!
Good luck with the house Carrie!
Today I am
grateful for my educator's 2 week vacation. Slept all day yesterday on and off.
Organizing my ebay station. The cats get into it, I need more lidded storage.
Listing a lot of shoes I got off of a FB site.
Packing up presents
Reading a good book: A Dog's Purpose.
Happily not worrying about work.
Seriously, how did we all Christmas shop before Amazon? I just got through the last of my boxes this weekend. Goodness knows I wasn't about to hit the mall when the raw temp was below zero and the windchill dropped the real feel another 20 degrees.
Right? So so convenient especially if your kids want hard-to-find items.
Today I am
grateful to be reading this blog and responses! It's made me laugh and commiserate.
Finishing up my last list for Christmas brunch fixings.
Wrapping the gifts from the cats! They can shop but no wrapping! No thumbs!
Bagging up the groceries for the local food bank.
Thinking of my brother who would have been 59 years old today.
My cats "help" me wrap.
I am joining the ranks of the sick folks here! Hope you all feel better!
I have a sinus infection along with an abscessed tooth (both on the same side).
The furnace died, they have to order parts.
The oven display panel died, they have to order a part.
On a good note, the antibiotic is starting to take the edge off of things, so yay!!
Feel better soon! Having pain anywhere in your head is so hard.
Today I am ...
Utterly grateful that I now have a full fridge of food and a warm house to hid in from the cold.
Happy that my two year old has had a good mood morning.
Nervous about all the ice covered sidewalks and driveways.
Grateful to be almost over my cold that wiped me out a couple weeks ago.
Feeling the love sitting next to my daughter on the couch.
Realizing I forgot one gift I was going to work on today, but Happy thats the last one left to do!
Nostalgic watching my kids enjoy all the holiday festivities 🙂
Today I am....
At work: we used to get 23 days of vacation, now we get 15, so I have to use it carefully.
Thankful for my son-in-law, who turned 30 yesterday.
Finishing a handmade gift tonight, and that will have the gift making complete. The shopping was already done.
Grateful I don't have the "crud" that is going around and hopefully won't get it.
Going to finish decorating the tree tonight. I'm one of those who likes to observe Advent before we get to Christmas, and the 18th was the last Sunday in Advent, so I feel like I can start the decorating now.
Waiting for this rainy, humid weather to go away, so I can make divinity. With other people in the deep freeze around the country, we've been sweating in warm, muggy weather. I want it to at least be cool and dry for a few days at Christmas.
Today I am unexpectedly off work to be home caring for my feverish T1D preteen. Ended up also doing laundry, dishes and planning last minute Christmas baking.
Today I am
Caring for my two children who have nasty colds
Wondering if I'm next
Washing a few loads of laundry
Happy we will be having leftover soup for dinner and I don't need to cook.
Sad to learn that someone among our acquaintance just passed away
Planning out the small few things I still need to finish up before Christmas
Thankful that I am not hosting this year
Deciding what side dish to bring to the Family Christmas
Looking forward to the Christmas concert I will be participating in on Wednesday evening
Today I am...
- grateful to be alive (had to use my first responder skillz at a serious traffic accident outside my house in the wee hours of Saturday, so feeling fairly fragile at the moment)
- looking on the bright side: I had to work hard to cheer up a friend when we met up today, but she needed a cheerleader and we had a fun evening, even though what I thought I really wanted was some sympathy for me (see previous about feeling fragile!)
- enjoying the festive glow of my miniature Christmas tree and looking forward to being with family next weekend
- listening to some Vivaldi for the first time in years, inspired by a busker on the train coming home
- savouring a favourite book in bed tonight as a reward for making it through the whole day today without tears.
I hope the book soothes your heart!
Today I am...
Getting ready for bed after...
Doing several loads of laundry,
Making beef 'n barley soup for lunch,
Trying to walk at the gym instead of getting into the pool (down for annual maintenance). It didn't work well with my arthritis.
Buying a few groceries and putting them away,
Hoping my husband gets to come home tomorrow (he is!),
Grateful to a gracious God for His marvelous blessings.
Today I am...
-counting down the days until Christmas with my two little boys as if I were still little myself!
-grateful for their moments of having tender hearts for others, even though they also have...other types of moments :/
-mindful that some are sad this time of year
-joyful deep down. 🙂
Today,I am...
Thankful for meaningful work that provides the opportunity to serve
Creating a menu for Christmas dinner
Reviewing the last of the "to do "list for the holiday so the weekend can be spent relaxing with family
Enjoying good health
Wrapping presents
Thinking of ideas for 2017 Goals
Today I am... (or did, as the day is almost to a close)
going shopping with my boys so they can buy dollar store presents for their siblings
taking one of my kids to the doctor because he is sick (it ended up being strep throat)
catching up on laundry
planning a special meal for our pastor and his wife who are joining us for dinner this week
trying to stay focused as I am sewing pajamas for my kids for Christmas (almost done, but I've been a little sick this week, too)
getting adjusted to winter in Tennessee. It actually snowed yesterday, but it is not at all like how Colorado snow was for us in years past. Although the fluffy stuff was minimal, it was still bitter cold for us.
practicing "Gesu Bambino"to sing at church on Wednesday night. So excited!
Reading a Christmas book to my kids tonight.
Thankful for a wonderful husband who makes me laugh even after 34 years together.
Thankful for a snug house and am mindful of how many other people don't have that.
Enjoying a new book a friend took the trouble to send me after she read it and decided I would enjoy it.
Made my favorite comfort food in the winter, mac and cheese. From scratch.
Thankful for my dogs, who are protective and affectionate and have never, ever chewed up anything. One does like to grab the end of the toilet paper and keep it in his mouth as he slowly wanders around the house. But even that makes me laugh. Well, most days.
The toilet paper made me laugh out loud.
Today I am:
Having all six grandchildren for lunch as they are out of school ( well, the two oldest who attend school, that is). They will do a Christmas craft and play in the backyard, and watch movies. And eat cookies Along with the kids are two of their moms to help keep order(with a whip and a chair). Their ages are 7,5,3,2, 20 months, and 1.
finishing up odds and ends at work before our 2 week vacation 😉
doctor's appt. after work this evening
dinner and dishes
heading into town afterward to finish up Christmas shopping
cutting out material for a stuffed dinosaur for my great grandson. This is the last of the homemade gifts this year. I have already made several things.
hopefully wrap a few gifts before sitting down with my grandson for bed (lots of wrapping left to do)
Tomorrow: oldest granddaughter is coming over to make rock candy, Christmas cookies, and other goodies
Love the business of the Christmas season.
Lol, a day late and a dollar short as usual! Hope everyone who has a bug of some sort or another is feeling better soonest. We had a round of illness after Thanksgiving. The little one brought home a bug and gave it to her dad who gave it to the hubs who gave it to the boychild who then caught the stomach bug his sister brought home from work who passed it onto the little one who was sick again from a daycare bug who passed that on to the hubs who was just recovering from the last one..... I've managed to avoid ALL of the bugs so far which means I'll probably be deathly ill for Christmas day, lol!
I finished the last of the shopping for stocking stuffers and groceries yesterday which took up the whole of the day. As I settled in, prepared to relax for the evening, the dog "informed" me that the cat, despicable animal that she is, had peed on her bed. Sigh. Nothing like doing dog/cat laundry at 8:30 at night.
Today was spent cleaning out for fridge and preparing for cookie and bread baking which will take up all of Wednesday and Thursday with present wrapping interspersed between bouts of baking. Friday will be taken up with house cleaning and washing and hanging laundry to dry. Saturday will be devoted to cooking and the evening with driving around to ooooo! and aaah! over the lights everywhere. Then Christmas Day!
Have a very Merry (and well) Christmas everyone!
