Paper or Plastic?
Since I'm not doing a grocery shopping post today, I thought I'd take the opportunity to share a neat slide show from LMU. Go click through it....you might recognize a few of the photos. 😉
And after you watch it, go put your reusable bags in your car so that you don't forget them next time you go grocery shopping!
Today's 365 post: Can you guess whose is whose?

That is exactly where mine are!!!
I do miss your Saturday posts about grocery shopping and your meal plan for the week.
They're coming back next week! 🙂
You know, I was just checking my Google Reader before going grocery shopping. Thanks for the reminder!
I once completely baffled a Kohl's clerk by walking out of the store with a pair of jeans in my hands after declining a bag. Did I need a bag to walk 100 feet to my car? Nope. 🙂
I'm happy I finally woke up and started using reusable bags! The picture of the dump was gross and the picture of the swans was heartbreaking. I remember reading that we are one of the worst countries when it comes to using plastic bags and that some countries even have laws against using them. I think the book was "No Impact Man" but I may be wrong. Good book none the less. Thank you for bringing this subject to light. 🙂
I would be curious as to why the video says even though they are collected, they aren't recycled??? That doesn't make sense. Do you know anything about that?
I think what it meant was that although grocery stores have containers to put the bags in for recycling, few people actually bring the bags back.
Some places say they are recycling things and then it just goes to the landfill anyway. Or they do plan to recycle but the facility can't handle all the items.
Regarding the brushing of teeth - I understand there's a child's mouth rinse that turns a funny color if the teeth are not properly brushed. I've been thinking of trying it myself- why should kids have all the fun?
Kristen - thank you for the slideshow link. AND for the reminder to resupply my car with canvas bags! Much appreciated!
That was eye opening, Thank you!!!
Amen! Says this proud LMU alum! 🙂
It's great people use bags to reduce the plastic bags, however those Green bags (in slide show) that are so popular in Australia, are made of plastic and the worst plastic possible. I try to use fabric bags when my green ones need replacing. There's great tutes on how to make bags out of T-shirts on You tube and Thread Banger. I'm trying to get organised and make some for gifts for friends, as our state will no longer be allowed to give plastic bags mid next year.
Yep, I mostly use my heavy-duty cloth Del Sol bags. The reusable bags that all the stores are selling are not nearly as sturdy and I don't like them as much.
Kristen - I did recognize the two shots of the back of your car! Shows how faithfully I follow your blog, although I haven't commented before . . .
Well, I'm glad you de-lurked!! lol
I just moved my bags from the van to the Tahoe today! =)
I can get canvas bags as low as 50 cents at the thrift store. I don't really mind if they have odd print on them.
I also miss the grocery pics and I am glad you will be doing them. I figured it must be a pain in the neck for you. Then again, that is how I unload all my groceries anyway so maybe not.
If you (like me) has tons of plastic bags stuffed under your sink or in a drawer, ask your local homeless shelter or food pantry if they could use them. We always had clients ask for one to carry around belongings in.
It's great to use reusable bags at the grocery store, but remember to take them with you EVERYWHERE. Don't forget them when you go to the department store, the drug store, etc. I didn't even think to do this until I saw someone else pulling out her bag at a Target. All of a sudden it clicked!
Has anyone tried the biodegradable trash bags yet? We still have a bunch of our regular ones left, but I'm interested in buying them and would like to know how well they work.
I have a collection of plastic bags that I'm cutting into strips and winding up into balls of 'fiber' to make knitted bags. These make a great shopping bag or beach bag...waterproof and drainable! Have your friends donate their bags to you and start knitting (or crocheting!)
