My site is now mobile-responsive!

Yesterday, I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress, and unfortunately, it wasn't compatible with my (fairly old) blog theme.     In fact, I couldn't see any comments at all, which was really not ok with me.   😉

Rather than mess with the workaround, I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a new theme, which also happens to be mobile-device-friendly.

So, now when you visit my blog, it should automatically format to the screen size of whatever device you're viewing it on.

Also, the new blog theme has only one sidebar instead of two.   More content, less sidebar!

I'm still figuring out the ins and outs of the new theme and tweaking things as I go, but all the important things seem to be working.

Ooh, and I finally added social media buttons to my sidebar on the right, so you can easily find me on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook.

(In case you can't quite get enough of me here on the blog.   Ha.)

Save instead of spending Snag $200 in bonuses from Capital One 360! - Mozilla Firefox 11282014 90142 PM

I've always kind of liked blogs whose header images change, so I think I'm gonna keep that feature and change it out every month.

For now: Christmas tree branches!

(Because it's after Thanksgiving, which totally means it's Christmas season even though it's not actually December quite yet.)

Anyhow...if you come across something that's messed up from the theme change, feel free to let me know so that I can fix it!

P.S. In case you missed it, now through Monday you can snag $200 (for your Christmas shopping or whatever!) by opening up accounts with Capital One 360.   The bonuses don't require spending...just saving (Yay!).

P.P.S. This is not a penny-pinching thing (well, technically it is)....but my very favorite lens that I shoot with more than 95% of the time, the Canon 50mm 1.4, is on sale for $349, and it comes with a filter, a lens cleaning kit, and a lens cap leash.

The lens sells for $400 at Amazon, so this is a really good deal.

I love this lens because it gives BEAUTIFUL blurry backgrounds and it's great, great, great for shooting in low light without a flash.   I don't know what I'd do without it, actually (probably cry or something.)

And yeah, compared to point and shoot cameras, this is expensive. But if you want to take lovely photos with your SLR (especially people photos) and if you like the photos you see here on my blog, you will be pleased as punch with this lens.

    1. I still need to figure out how to re-add those...the links up at the top are taking up more space than they did on the old theme, so I need to see if I can make them smaller so I can fit more in!

  1. Hey! Have been a subscriber of your blog for rather a while now. If you need any help with the new theme I run a web design company and would be more than happy to help you free of charge! Keep up the great content!

  2. The new look is nice, but I really dislike it when posts (especially the most recent ones) are truncated on the main page. Call me lazy, but I find it annoying to have to click on a link to read the full post and then click back to the home page and click on yet another link to read the next post.

    1. I prefer to have at least a few full posts too...I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to make this theme do that without also making the archives display full posts.

With my old theme, I had two full posts and then the rest were truncated and I'd like to replicate that if possible. I'll try my best!

        1. Me, too! Always feel so lazy when it's only one click extra but it's just one of those things that I find really frustrating and I'm far more likely to just read the first line of the post and not bother going any further, which means I'm probably missing out on a lot of great stuff. Haven't looked at it on my smartphone yet (only have it a couple of months, so not quite at the stage of using it for everything yet 🙂 ), maybe it's different on that.

          1. It is indeed different on the smartphone, which is weird! For me, it's showing whole posts on the phone.

  3. The new theme looks great! I'm on my tablet half the time, so I really appreciate when there's a good mobile/tablet option for a site. Thanks!

  4. I just checked on my phone (a Samsung mini smartphone) and it's full posts there. And then came here on my home laptop to post and let you know that and it's showing full posts here, too. Either you've changed something or there's some difference between the version of chrome I have here and in work. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know in case any of that is helpful. 🙂

    1. Yep, I changed it. Problem is, now the archives display that way too, and it's an awfully inconvenient way to browse the archives. But, more people see the homepage than see the archives, so this setup makes more sense for now!

  5. I like the new look. I like that it's easier to go previous or next when I'm done reading at the bottom of the page.

  6. I just wanted to say this setup works really well for mobile devices! Very easy to read and I usually read these on my. iPad at lunch.
