Could I have your input on something?

I don't think I can create an honest-to-goodness poll on wordpress because I haven't switched over to my own hosted site yet. So, if you could leave a comment with your opinion on the dilemma I'm about to present, I'd be so grateful!

I have a baking blog over on Blogger. Blogging recipes is a lot of work, I've found, and so I don't keep that one updated all that well. Even one recipe a week is sometimes more than I can manage, and that's not exactly going to make for a bumpin' blog. I know quality counts over quantity, but still.

I considered giving up the whole baking blog, but it seems like people have been finding the recipes there to be really helpful, and I'm happy to be able to serve other people in this way. So, my latest idea is to making baking a weekly feature on this blog. It would be something similar to my brownie post . It wouldn't be terribly off-topic, since most baking ends up being a decently frugal activity, and I think doing it as a weekly feature here would help me to get around to posting my baking recipes more faithfully. Plus, that would just make me a less distracted blogger...I'd have this one as my main blog, and then the only other one would be my photography blog(I feel no pressure there to blog regularly, and it's a lot less work anyways). I promise I won't try to roll that one into this blog, though!

So, whaddya think? Would you find it really off-putting to be hit with a baking recipe or tip every week when you really come here for frugal stuff? Or would you find it to be a helpful addition to the usual Frugal Girl fare? Whatever your thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hey ๐Ÿ™‚

You can make posts and create a recipe category. You can create a recipe page and only have the recipe category feed to that page. So whenever you post a recipe and get the category option, click on recipes. I can help you more with this if you want....or you can search the codex wordpress, its amazing what you can find there

but I agree with keeping it on one blog is a good idea.

  2. If keeping it to one post means that it is easier and it is something that you would like to do. Then I say go for it. I for one would not find a weekly recipe or tip "off-putting". I think that there are many ways of approaching a frugal lifestyle and one of them ican be to make stuff (food included) yourself.

I know what you mean about trying to run too many blogs. I think sharing recipes fits in perfectly with your frugal blog. It's better for me personally, because I can come to just one place to find all the things you write about ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. That sounds perfect, Jenny! I'm still waiting for Dreamhost to activate my account and then I have to try to figure out how to configure everything. I would love your help when I get to that point, because I'm sure I'm going to get stuck along the way!

  5. Kristen,
I love the idea of a recipe a week on your regular blog! Go for it!!!! Life is too short to stress over keeping up another blog! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Thank you all for your input! I think I'll go ahead and try to combine the two somehow. I'm going to try to implement some changes once Dreamhost gets themselves around to activating my account, and I'm sure that my dear code savvy friend Jenny will help me get it all figured out so that it's nice and user-friendly.

  7. I had to come back and comment on this post. I too had a baking blog for about a year, and boy was it alot of work to just come up for one thing a week. So I completely feel your pain on it. I would love if you put your recipes on this site. I think it would make it easier for you to combine all your great posts, ideas and recipes all on the same blog.
