I’ll do grocery spending first this week. For those of you just joining me, I’m trying to keep better track of my grocery spending. My goal is to keep it between $80-$100(I try my hardest to be close to $80, though) a week for the six of us, including toiletries and cleaning supplies.
This week I had to go to Costco to pick up some necessities, and so my spending is above budget. Here’s what I spent:
$8 on milk from the farm
$7 at the farmer’s market
$52 at Costco
$44 at Weis
for a total of
$111.
Yikes. The stuff I got at Costco should last me for quite some time, though, and hopefully I will have some under budget weeks for the rest of this month to make up for my spending this week. At least we know I won’t be needing to buy any cereal!
Here’s my menu, late as usual!
Saturday
- Ham sandwiches on homemade rolls
- Green beans
- Chips
Sunday
- Pancakes
- Orange Juice
Monday
- Swiss Mushroom Chicken
- Green Beans
- Braided Bread
Tuesday
- Taco Salads
- Peaches
Wednesday
- Pasta with pesto and grilled chicken
- French Bread
- Grapes
Thursday
- A new recipe for chicken legs, from Pioneer Woman
- Potato squares
- Salad
Friday
- Deep dish pizza(from Cook’s Illustrated…I highly recommend their recipe!)

[...] $78(I try to spend between $80 and $100 a week). So, I’m only $2 into making a dent into last week’s over spending. Oh well…I’m hoping to have a nice lean week next [...]

That's good to know, Meg, because as I was typing this up, I actually was wondering if it was a good idea to keep posting them! lol
And yes, a simple meal here and there is wonderful...our breakfast for dinner nights on Sundays are like that. They're really simple to plan and very easy to make.

I really enjoy your menu-planning posts. Part of my problem is that I feel like I need to plan sort of elaborate meals for every night of the week, and it bogs me down. Oh, and I don't actually cook them all and then we end up wasting money on takeout; that's a key problem. You have a nice mix of quick and delicious along with ones that might need a little more preparation, all well-balanced. Thanks so much for sharing!
