Thankful Thursday | getting there
This week, I am thankful:
that my countdown is done! (almost)
I have one more shift tomorrow, and then I will officially be living the part-time life. Yay!

And my class officially finishes on Sunday, but I am done with my work, so that class is over for me.
that the rest of August is mid-80s or below
You know how people get seasonal depression in the winter? I sometimes feel like I get a summer version; I find multiple months of heat and humidity to be rather depressing! I think I would be perpetually blue if I lived in, say, South Florida.
When it's so humid, I don't even feel like going out for my beloved trail walks because the air is just miserable.
(Conversely, I basically never think it's too cold to walk in the winter!)

Anyway, the forecast for the rest of August does hold a lot of humidity, but at least the temps are getting a little bit cooler.
Also cheerful for me: September is only about a week and a half away. Yay!
that I was able to give my friend's stuff away
After my friend died of cancer, I helped her kids empty her storage unit, and I brought a van full of stuff home to give away.

I have been too busy this past month to deal with any of the stuff, but I finally did manage it this week! And happily, I was able to find takers on my Buy Nothing group.
I am happy that her things are finding their way to new owners; I know that's what she'd want. 🙂
for this picture from my friend
My nurse bestie Brittany is on vacation this week, and she sent me this picture she took of a tiny crab. Is he not the cutest little crab you have ever seen???

for my lawn-mowing guy
I'm still not over the thrill of coming home to a mowed yard. Amazing! Magical! Wonderful! I did not have to go outside and sweat!
(I wouldn't mind doing lawn-mowing in the winter, but that is not how lawns work. Ha.)
for a one-day humidity reprieve
Yesterday, the air was not so wet, and I took advantage of that by taking in a sunset.

At the park, I read my graphic novel, recommended by a reader. It's a super quick read, and since it's just drawings, I think even most non-medical people would find it enjoyable, not gross. 🙂

You have done it Kristen! Week zero has arrived.
My thankfuls:
--for rain and that it rained mostly at night, and that the Belgian moors fires just across the border are finally under control;
--for the craftmanship of the people who are working in our house at the moment;
--for savings, to get necessary maintenance done;
--for kindness and courtesy, that I encounter every day at work and in traffic (For this list I am willfully ignoring the opposite);
--for a dedicated group of fellow trash pickers that try to keep our surroundings clean from cigarette butts, cans, plastic and paper bags (and more). The microplastics in one cigarette filter can pollute 1,000 litres of water;
--for being generally fit and energetic and able to do many chores around the house (for those we cannot do ourselves - see "craftmanship";
--for affordable clean tap water and other utilities;
--for my morning oats and coffee;
--for the prospect of more rain ahead. The rain containers are full again but rivers, lakes and nature generally need to refill and recover from the heat. It may sound contradictory, but living below sea level we rely on enough water to keep our protective dykes soaked and spongy so they can keep away the "water wolf". In case of extreme drought the dykes will become brittle. Keeping them in good shape will always take priority over the need of water for farmers and industries, and at the worst even tap water. This summer, in some regions, farmers and nurseries were forbidden from using water from rivers and lakes, while industries had to scale down. Worrisome.
(And as I type this, we have a steady drizzle. Thankful!)
I'm glad your friend's family has you as a very competent and thoughtful redistributor of things, and I'm sorry for your loss.
Thankful:
- Speaking of the season, that apparently they're "trying" to fix the HVAC at work, and that my classroom has had a steady temp the last couple days and wasn't freezing, hot, nor humid.
- That we are in the home stretch toward the weekend.
- For all the healthy habits and layers I HAVE already been doing, even though I have farther to go.
- For various creative, talented, funny, and kind students that contribute to my job being rewarding and fun.
- That we were only without internet for one day after a surge fried the equipment.
Your efforts for your deceased friend honor you both.
That is indeed a darling crab!
Thankful-wise, I'm relieved that yesterday's intense thunderstorm was brief with only small hail. (Gotta love those ominous green hail clouds!) I did have to go prop up my amaranth, as the soil was too soggy to hold their weight, but I'm only out one bush bean plant that the wind broke off at the soil line. Most of the beans were thankfully ready to harvest, and the plant carcass went into the compost.
