Thankful Thursday | one class again
This week, I am thankful:
that my class overlap is done!
I am so very happy that I'm back down to just one class again.

And I'm glad that the eight-page paper and group project are behind me.
that there are no group projects in my current class
The level of relief I feel is indescribable. I vastly prefer to do all my schoolwork on my own. I end up doing most of the group work anyway, and at least when I'm working on my own, I don't have to do all the effort of trying to organize everyone and keep things moving forward.
I just move forward on my own, and that is way easier.
A pox on group projects, I say!
for my countdown latte
I told you earlier this week about my plan to mark each work week's end with a latte, so yesterday, which was shift 3/3, I got a latte.
Yum!
Five more to go.
that summer is about halfway over
As you know, I am not the biggest fan of summer, largely because I think the weather is diabolical.
Some people get weather-related depression in January, but me? I feel blue when I look at the July forecast.

Summer generally offers a consolation prize in the form of a school break, but I don't even have that this year. So, this season is really giving me nothing.
That's why I'm thrilled we're halfway through July! It's only about a month and a half until September, and there should be some weather improvements then.
that I can write
I keep being grateful, grateful, grateful that writing is not hard for me. BSN classes are almost nothing but writing, and I imagine this program is ten times as miserable for people who aren't well-practiced at writing.
that I read fast
In addition to writing, BSN classes also require a fair amount of reading (especially journal articles as we research topics), so I am super grateful that I'm a quick reader.
Research would take much longer otherwise!
for citation generators
I use mybib.com's free tools to help me format my APA citations for my reference pages, and I do not feel one particle bad about it. My brain is crammed with a billion things right now, and I do not need to waste time formatting references.

Of course, I do always check the end product because reference tools can make mistakes! Heck, even the "cite this book" tool inside my textbook formats the title incorrectly.
(Using a citation tool is not prohibited at my school, just so you know. 😉 I'm not breaking any rules.)
for the wonderful feeling of sitting down after a shift
When I get into my car, and the weight finally comes off my feet, it feels SO GOOD.

This feeling is only topped by the sensation of getting into bed after a shift. Then my feet feel really good.

So glad your class load is improving Kristen!
Thankfuls for this week:
That last week's car problem did not turn out to be so major. We thought it was a transmission issue, but instead it was related to a fail of a part that had been replaced recently. Thankfully that part was under warranty, and was replaced for free.
The part that failed was a front brake caliper. Thankfully I did not have an accident because of that.
This week, a rear brake started making noise so we took it back to the dealer. It must have been a stone or something because by the time I got it to the dealer, the noise was gone and upon inspection, they could find nothing wrong. Even better, the dealer did not charge me for the time it took to look at the car.
For an unexpected visit from a friend yesterday. We hadn't seen each other in a few weeks, and it was great fun to catch up!
For a great camping trip last weekend - fun, friends, and a hike out to a waterfall on a hot day.
Counting down, week by week!
This week's thankfuls:
-for better sleep
-for progress in a room renovation
-for making strides in the renovation of room 2
For weekend around the corner
Ooo, lattes and individual work, not group projects. Cheering with you!
Thankful this week (actual birthday edition... accidentally made it sound like my bday last mo. so thanks for all your warm wishes!):
- That my simple, frugal get together with friends and family was actually pretty simple and frugal.
- For the opportunity for various loved ones to meet each other.
- For my husband willingly hauling all the coolers and stuff and supporting the whole thing in general (group gatherings are never his idea of fun).
- For an interesting stranger who overheard that it was my bday and bought my coffee from my favorite place, an Exxon station that has a counter selling amazing, locally roasted, deliciously brewed coffee!
- For powerfully uplifting cards, thoughtful unexpected gifts, and so much love in my life.
I love summer but think I'm in the minority! Yay for being down to one class!
Thankfuls:
1. I'm thankful for a six AM run with my sister this morning. It wasn't exactly fun, nor am I much of a morning person, but I'm thankful that I motivated myself to do it.
2. I went for a beautiful walk with my mother in the Wye Valley (on the border of England and Wales).
3. I went to yoga with my friend and enjoyed breakfast with her beforehand.
4. I managed to schedule a routine health appointment - thankful I had time for it and thankful that it is covered by universal healthcare.
5. I went to the optician and got the surprising good news that my eyesight has improved!
It may sound silly but I am a bundle of emotions this week. My daughter has had some pretty big milestones (nursery graduation, moving up dance class, swimming without armbands) and I just don't know what to do with myself. My little girl is growing up fast.
Forever thankful that she gets to do all of these things, she is happy and healthy, and I am around to watch and support her.
I am the same about the summer, Kristen--the heat just wears me down and sometimes I get headaches from it!
My Thursday Thankful is mostly hospital related:
For the orthopedic doctor who, last week, when we took DS#3 there for a painful elbow that had been dogging him for MONTHS (even during his last hospital stay, but they never bothered to image it) discovered abscesses in there, aspirated and cultured a sample, so that the hospital DS#3 is in now got the results of staph bacteria in the fluid and hopped to.
For the orthopedic surgeon who operated very soon after that and cleaned out a bunch of infected tissue and bone from his poor elbow, and found that the infection had destroyed most of his cartilage. There is a lot of recovery in his future, but right after surgery, even in post-operative pain, before the morphine, DS#3 declared, "I feel less sick NOW than before the surgery!"
For the doctors who are taking his persistent anemia seriously. He's needed three blood transfusions in the past week (and we are also THANKFUL FOR BLOOD DONORS!) just to stay above a hemoglobin level of 7. Then it will drop again. They finally got a hematology consult on board, so maybe we will get answers. Maybe it was the infection causing it. Hopefully we will find out.
For healing kidneys. His kidney numbers have improved drastically, for which I am very thankful.
For physical therapists who will not take no for an answer and get DS#3 up and moving around. We can't be there 24/7 (and this hospital does not allow overnight visitors in any case) to help him ambulate which he very much needs to.
For DS#2 who has been my traveling companion to drive down to visit his brother these past few days. It's an hour drive there, but he is a good travel buddy and we listen to music and talk about things.
Non hospital related thankfuls: For the decent sleep I've been getting, for the Commodore who is delightful even though he's decided to start door darting again, for DS#4 learning to ride a bike (!! We're very excited about this and he's so pleased), for clean line-dried sheets, for a delicious birthday dinner and fun movie, and for a hot cup of tea first thing in the morning.
Oh, Karen, I really, really hope this elbow discovery turns the tide! I am thankful you are such an attentive mother. Can you imagine somebody having to navigate this medical situation alone?!
I'm so glad you have a little more breathing space. This week I am thankful:
*for weather that currently seems fine for flying. My son's check ride is scheduled for an hour from now, and he's on the road to the airport as I type. I'm thankful, too, for this wonderful opportunity he's had to learn how to fly; the EAA is a giving organization! Not only has he been able to learn to fly, but during this whole process, he's learned to be so independent. At 18, he's very grown up. I'm thankful.
*for my husband. He bought a movie I mentioned I would like to watch (after seeing ads on Facebook for it). Most of our family sat down and watched it and enjoyed it so much. I like those unexpected things that bring us together.
*for those silly kittens my son brought home last summer. Endless amusement.
*that we are getting some of our travel plans solidified for taking son#2 back to school and daughter#1 to visit a different college (she's a rising senior). I am terribly thankful that son#1 will be able to meet us in Wisconsin so we don't have to drive all the way to Minnesota (for the 3rd? time this year).
*that our garden things are growing despite our negligence. Well, not total negligence, but we could have done better. Maybe. For the crazy buckwheat that the bees and other pollinators are going crazy over. For the ambitious spider that spun a web over the entrance to an empty bird nest in our yard.
*for the yummy sourdough bread I enjoyed yesterday, for my coffee, that I got out of bed in time to make breakfast for the pilot (his choice was chocolate chip muffins and scrambled eggs), that my oldest is enjoying a professional conference and sent me a thoughtful reel, that my daughter gets to spend time with her bestie before bestie goes away to college, and for butter because it is delicious.
*NOT THANKFUL that I have no idea what I'm making for supper tonight. At least I know that it will likely involve brussels sprouts because that's what I have on hand.
