Would you maybe like a free smartphone to use at Ting???

This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to Pam H, the winner of the Kyocera Rise Smartphone!

Kyocera Rise

I recently wrote about how Mr. FG and I have a two-iPhones-for-$21/month plan, which is working out really, really well for us.

(Actually, last month we paid $18 because we managed not to use any data!)

Although I didn't originally have any relationship with Ting, after I posted about our experience with Ting Wireless, the people from Ting emailed me and asked if I'd like to give a smartphone away to you guys.

And of course, I said yes because I really love Ting's uber-flexible, super-inexpensive service, and because if I were you, I would want to win a smartphone!

(By the way, Ting runs on the Sprint network, so if you've got good Sprint coverage in your area, Ting will work great for you.)

The Phone

The smartphone Ting is offering for this giveaway is a Kyocera Rise.   I haven't personally used one of these, but it's an Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone (I have no idea what that means!) and it has a slide-out qwerty keyboard.

Ting - mobile that makes sense -

And it's all set to use on Ting's rockin' plan, so you can get busy slashing your cell phone bill right away.

(In case you missed my earlier post, click here to read all about how Ting's phone plans work and about how Mr. FG and I keep our bill so low.)

How to Enter

To enter this giveaway, use Ting's savings calculator to figure out how much you could save by switching and then share that in the comments.

Just visit Ting's website and click on the Savings Calculator link, like so:

Leave a comment telling me how much you'd save by switching to Ting, and you'll be entered in the giveaway.

Don't forget that if you sign up with Ting through any of the links on my blog, you'll get $25 to use toward your first bill or toward the purchase of a phone.

And if you're like Mr. FG and me, that'll cover you for a good month!   😉

The giveaway closes on Sunday night, March 23rd, so get your entry in before then.   Alaska and Hawaii residents, this giveaway is open to you guys too, so enter away.

  1. I would save $20.00 a month and $240.00 a year and I currently don't even have a smartphone. Its a qwerty phone with data capability so a phone I could use for money saving apps would be really fun for me. We have found with my husband and daughters smart phones adding our WIFI password to them saves a fortune on data! I would love to have a ting phone and service for myself!

    1. Yes! We love using wifi...it's available in so many places now and cuts our data usage to almost nothing.

      1. The savings I calculated was just for me. I guess the actual savings monthly would be 100.00 a month including the other 4 phones on the account!

  2. Goodness. I am embarassed at how much it would save us as we have SEVEN people on our current plan. Now, if I can just convince my husband to go with a carrier that is not one of the big three, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint.......

    1. Hey Laura! Sarah from Ting here.
I totally get where your husband is coming from. He wants to feel like he can rely on the network to work wherever and whenever he needs it. The good news is Ting runs off of the Sprint network. In fact, we purchase minutes, texts and data directly from Sprint, so he wouldn't have to worry about not getting the same coverage.
Let me know if you have any questions!
      Sarah

  3. We don't have smart phones (just talk and text), but I've been looking into adding data to our plan. If we did, Ting would save us about $40 a month! I'm definitely going to look into this service (and I would love to win the phone!)

  4. We have 3 on our plan, we were paying 2520 annually, switched to a non-contract plan and we are down to 1524 annually not including a phone (we are keeping our old ones) this is with the shared data plan with a company discount using AT&T. Ting would still save me another $25 per month as I typically only use my phone when I am in WiFi areas. I am not sure I can live without my iPhone features though. I have several apps like Evernote that I use daily. I wish Ting accepted more phones.

    1. My understanding is that Ting does accept iPhones! It just has to be Sprint compatible. I believe Kristin purchased a refurbed iPhone 4 and is using it on Ting!! 🙂

  5. The savings calculator says I wouldn't save any money, but I currently do not have a smartphone and would really like one.

    1. We've got a bunch of great smartphones to choose from. I could even help you out if you need help! Realistically, if you use wifi when you can, your bill could be as low as $20 per month (or less).

  6. WOW - it says I would save $720.00! I have been trying to figure out ways to slash certain household bills, so this would be a PERFECT start......pick me, pick me 🙂

  7. This would be awesome! I'd save ~$15 per month but ADD data! I'd love to be able to use Instagram and Twitter but am currently only able to do so from my laptop. This would be a great upgrade! Thanks for the opportunity, Kristen!

  8. It's not quite an accurate comparison, but the savings calculator says I'm in the 2% who wouldn't save by switching. I'm on a $30 per month pre-pay plan with my old-fashioned flip-phone (no data) and my husband gets by on the pay-per-minute & doesn't use up a $100 card in a year. We are intrigued by Ting, though, as we may be looking to move to a smart-phone in about a year or so for traveling purposes & money-saving-deals via smart-phone.

  9. I would go from roughly $160 per month to $78! For two phones! I'll have to research and ask around as to whether Spring is good in our area because this is a no brainer for us! Thanks for sharing Kristin, you're awesome!!!!

  10. Thank you Kristen! I would probably use more data than you, but would still save between $100 and $120 per month. A free phone may be the thing that convinces my husband to make the switch (I've been talking it up since your original post a few weeks ago).

  11. It says my husband and I would save $1,752 over 2 yrs by switching to Ting! We have never had smart phones before and would love to win one! Thanks for the opportunity to try.

  12. We already have ting and we save about $80 a month from our old plan. Ting says we would save over $2000 over a 2 year plan. We love Ting and I really love that I can control how much we pay and we only pay for what we use. We don't have a land line, so we use our phones as phones. Because some months are much heavier phone usage months than others, I really like that I never have to worry about how much I talk to my family.

  13. I would save $40 a month (about half) and we only right now pay for talk!!! We want smart phones but we are waiting for the right deal 😉

  14. They claim I would save $2112 in two years, which is not the number I came up with when I looked at their site when you posted originally. Maybe closer to $500 in a year. But Sprint coverage in our area is notoriously horrible 🙁

  15. Me! I switched to Ting back in May and save, on average, $50/month. I desperately need a new phone as mine is the ORIGINAL Samsung Galaxy S and, while I adore it and ported it to Ting NO PROBLEMO, it is old and is starting to freeze often/not want to charge any more. Winning this would be the answer to my bankrupt prayers! lol!

  16. I hope I can still enter. My husband and I use pay as you use Tracfones to avoid a regular cell phone bill. However, I'd love to get a smartphone, especially if I got it free from Ting and then signed up to use Ting! Thanks.

  17. My hubby and I use our data way too often and don't take advantage of the Wi-Fi offered at the university and at home. We live in a small town that actually does not have a lot of free Wi-Fi locations. No Starbucks!! 🙁

I would actually love to sign my mom up for this as I know she never uses data and would really help her with monthly budget (that is extremely limited). She would save probably $40 a month and about $480 a year.

  18. Okay, so this is lame -- I already use Ting and my last bill was $1.95 (I had credit). But, I still have two lines with Sprint that I am planning to port to Ting and will save $110 month total with all three lines on Ting. Can I still be a part of the giveaway?

  19. When I used Ting's calculator, I would pay the same compared to what I pay now; but I plan to switch, talk less on my cell, and text less. This will allow me to save more, and I will have a phone upgrade with a smart phone 🙂

  20. My family would save close to $700 in one year! Thanks for telling us about Ting and thanks for this giveaway.

  21. I'm part of the 2%!
I would save $0 money with Ting, because neither I nor my husband has a cell phone.
My husband has been pushing a lot lately for us to join the rest of you in the 21st century and get a smartphone, so we have already looked at Ting based on posts over at Mr. Money Mustache.
The initial cost of the phone was my main "hang-up " about not signing up, so a free phone would mean there wouldn't be much reason for us not to finally get a cell phone. The monthly fees are very reasonable.

    1. Me too Susan. We have tracfone and pay about $20 every 3-5 months for the both of us. However, I would love to do a smartphone and this is a cheap way for us.

  22. Well I could save over 2500/year with 4 phones. That's crazy and worth a look. We have 4 iphones now so I might have to calculate the cost of all new phones to see the true cost. Several of the phones are up for renewal in January so I'd love to look into this more.

My only reservation is that my oldest child is a college student in Gambier,Ohio. They say that only Verizon works in that area (as it is rural). I'd love to test it there of find out if this will work in that area as this is the only reason we're staying with Verizon now.

  23. I would save over $2,000 in two years!! Wow!! I've got to check and see how Sprint network is around here. We've been trying to cut back and this would b GREAT!!!!

  24. I think I will save at least $60 a month and actually we are already planning to make the switch. Our hold up is getting new phones (since we only have the freebies from Verizon right now). I can't wait to switch but its a big upfront cost for us so winning this phone would be awesomely lucky!

  25. I am in the 2% group that wouldn't save money, but that's because I have an ancient Tracfone and get the yearly plan and never exceed my minutes. I am interested in upgrading and the Ting plan sounds great!

  26. I would save 268.48 in two years... We have two phones with unlimited Services and that's I used to field The spaces... But we don't have wi-fi at home... Maybe if we paid wi-fi at home we could save more.

  27. $43 a month! My phone is provided through work, but my husband's plan is pretty basic and still expensive. If I got a free phone maybe I could convince him to finally switch!

  28. I wold save $240 a year. We use A LOT of data, send many texts and have three smartphones on our plan. I was thinking of switching over to Ting, just to help us put the brakes on our obsessive phone usage. Hi, my name is Kelly, and I have a problem...

  29. Sorry. Miscalculated earlier... way more megabytes usage and my texts were about 400 short. So I would save $524 in two years and about $20 a month.

  30. I would save $912.00/2 years. But this is an over inflated amount. We currently use Boost mobile, with unlimited data and shrinking payments.

  31. I just wanted to stop by and put a plug in for Ting for all of you who may be on the fence. I am a recent convert from Verizon and just brought over 3 other family members onto my monthly plan. The cell service works great in my area and I must say, Ting customer service is BAR NONE. I have never felt more valued as a customer. Any questions I have had about porting our numbers over, phone compatibility, etc. have all been answered by real people at lightning speed. Highly recommend!

  32. We won't actually save anything, because we currently have phones through Republic Wireless. However, we're moving to Arizona in November and Republic won't work out there (yet!).

  33. I no longer have any cellphone, smart or otherwise, as I couldn't afford to keep mine. Instead, I use a landline because, bundled with my internet/wifi, it's less costly. Nevertheless, I would love to be able to have a cellphone again, and a smartphone?! Amazingly, with Ting I'd probably pay about $25 each month less than I used to pay for the phone feature. I didn't add any data usage as I'd do my best to keep that at a minimum, using wifi as much as possible.

  34. I switched to Ting after reading your post and will save about $45 a month! Thanks for sharing about a service I didn't know existed!

  35. I don't currently have a cell phone at all, but this my parents keep telling me to get one. So this looks like a smart way to have a phone for emergencies without paying a lot.

  36. Honestly, our only cell phone right now is an old tracfone that gets more use as an alarm clock than a phone, so we wouldn't save anything on service by switching. Having a smart phone would help me to manage my Etsy shop when I'm away from home and save money when I forget to print out my Joann's coupons, though. That alone would justify spending $20/month on service with Ting, lol!

  37. It said I would save zero dollars! However, I could really use a new phone and have looked into Ting based on your experiences with them.

  38. We would save $50.00 per month if we subscribed to Ting.
When you have a growing family a free smart phone with a low cost plan is a sensible option. Thank you for this opportunity to be good stewards of our resources.

  39. I estimated pretty generously but it said I could save 92$ each month. If I saved even half that I would be very, very happy!

  40. I calculated it for a 5-phone Verizon family plan, (4 basic no-data phones and 1 smart phone) which receives a discount through work...came up that we are in the 2% who would not save on their monthly bill. All of that could change if one of us "basics" switch to a "smart," so I will look into that again. Especially if we win the free one! Duly noting the following: "Even if your expected Ting bill is about in line with your current mobile bill, Ting's no contract service and unprecedented no-hold customer service are priceless. Also, we don't hit you with bogus recovery fees or other line items in your bills; we only collect the taxes and regulatory fees we're legally required to collect and pass on to the Powers That Be." (Verizon charges us $10.80 "surcharge"...but even with that added in we are still in the 2%...must be that work discount.

    1. Just figured out by useage analysis that we can safely lower our "shared minutes" and save on upcoming bills with Verizon!

  41. So, I would only save $1 a month, but I don't have a smartphone so this plan would add a better phone plus data. WIFI would be a big plus too!!

  42. I wouldn't actually save any money because I have a very similar type plan with my old flip-top cell phone. However, i would still come out ahead, because I could do a lot more with a smart phone.

  43. $1100 over 2 years not counting early termination or the price of the new phone! Contract is up in 2 months and then I'll definitely revisit!

  44. I currently don't have data but would love to have it for things like Target Cartwheel. I would save $23 per month on what I pay just for phone and text.

  45. Well, I wouldn't save any money over my current pay-as-you go phone, but I have been looking into getting a smart phone and from what I've read on your site and Ting's site, this looks like the way to go.

  46. I don't even have a cell phone, much less a smart phone, so I wouldn't actually save anything by getting one. We have, however, been discussing the idea for a lot of reasons lately, and your method of dealing with them sounds manageable for us.

  47. Actually my bill would be the same, but my current phone is not a smart phone, so I guess that would be an improvement (if I got a smartphone for free, that is!)

  48. My parents and I were JUST talking about this last night! I had never heard of them til you posted about them. My parents currently pay about $145 a month for two phones and I pay $95 for two phones. So between us, we are talking $240 a month! Since we have different carriers I used the rates to estimate. With a four line plan, and averaging the minutes, texts and data we use, I'm estimating that we would save $174!!! ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY FOUR DOLLARS! If I win this phone will go to my dad, and I'll then only have to buy 3 more for myself, my son and my mom, so that will mean a lot to me!

  49. I am thrilled you are doing this giveaway! My husband and I have been wanting to switch to Ting, but the cost of a no-contract device was an obstacle, particularly not knowing how good Sprint service would be in our area. I would love to win this phone! Ting says we could save $3319.92 over 2 years on our family plan of 3 phones. Pretty awesome!!

  50. I would save 3,000 dollars over 2 years with Ting. That would go a long way in helping me with my build my retirement nest egg as well as dealing with living in such an expensive city.

Even if I don't win....I love your site and all the advice you give! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

  51. I'd save 240$!!! I would be really excited to try this service. We right now have "dumb phones" because those plans are way cheaper!

  52. After reading your post last week, I forwarded the link to my husband to investigate, since we have been talking about switching plans once our contract is up in April. Perfect timing! We used the calculator and it estimated over $3000 in savings in two years. We knew we were paying too much, but now we know we are.

    Keep up the frugal posts!

  53. Our phones aren't Sprint phones so we would have to get two new phones. If I add in the cost of two refurbished Galaxy SIIIs at $296 each and then subtract the amount I could probably get for my hubby's phone on Glyde (mine is not paid off yet) we would save $253.40 in 2 years ($10.56 per month). This is enough to make me consider it even though it would be a hassle.

  54. My husband uses a pay-as-you go flip phone like Kristen's old phone. Switching to Ting would save us at least $13.00 per month, which would be nice!

  55. Um, yes! We actually have a pretty good deal - two smart phones for about $95 per month. But I would love to lower that even more!

  56. I would save $534 In two years, but Sprint gets terrible coverage where I live, plus I'm in a basement apartments which makes it worse. We also like to travel a lot and wonder does Ting charge for roaming?

  57. I would save $48 a month. I looked into this after your first post but haven't switched yet because of the cost of a new phone. It would be awesome to win this!

  58. Actually $0. I use tracfone and an old style basic phone. The minutes I average out would equal to a bit less than TING. However, I would LOVE to go to a smartphone. I would gladly pay the extra to do so!

  59. Call me cheap, frugal even miserly but I'm doing fine with my Tracfone. Less than $10/month. I have a phone for emergencies and convienience. All my friends have smart phones. When we are together one of them use their phone for stuff mine can't do. I'm satisfied with my dumb phone Thank you very much!

  60. Ting would save us about $70 a month. I looked into this after you mentioned it here and I was amazed at how cheap it is. We are planning to switch when our contract runs out.

  61. I am seriously embarrassed that I would save $1512.00 in 2 years! I knew we were overpaying. I really need to dump my service provider.

  62. I would save 25.50 a month or $612 in 2 years not to mention having a smart phone:) Maybe my husband's students would stop making fun of him for his old school phone:)

  63. I'd save around $15 dollars a month for my current situation, which is a part of a family plan with my dad. When I have to get my own plan I'm sure the savings would be 10x more.

  64. My results say that I am in the 2% who would not save by switching to Ting. However, there are 4 phones on our plan and only my husband's is a smartphone and the other three users don't text or receive texts. We also get a 15% discount through my husband's job. I've been planning on getting a smartphone so we'd probably save at that point. I'd really like a smartphone!

  65. We'd save $75 a month! We've been procrastinating on switching plans for months....thanks for the motivation!!

  66. I just switched to Ting and am set to save $29 on my wireless for the month of March! I could not be happier.

  67. I'm not sure how much I would save, if any, because I currently use a Tracfone. However, I could have a smartphone and add data and pay $12-$15 a month for a smartphone. I'm definitely intrigued by the possibility of switching to Ting and being able to have a smartphone, without paying a huge bill.

  68. Wow, it says I would save $18 a month.... I thought I was already doing pretty well, on a pay-as-you-go option!

  69. I'm not currently a smartphone user, but I have to say a savings of $95.98 a month is sorely tempting!

  70. So, I'm not sure I would save anything, since I currently pay as you go, and I don't even know what I spend. But this would definitely be the cheapeast smartphone plan, and that alone would be a huge upgrade for me!

  71. I would not save any I am in the 2% group. I still have 20 months on my plan. I will check back before purchasing another plan. Thanks for trying to help us save!

  72. I guess it wouldn't be much of a savings since I don't have a cell phone at all. I did check out the rates and told my mom she could save at least $55 though. She pays way too much!

  73. We (my wife and I) would not save anything, but that's because we currently have flip phones and I use next-to-nothing on my portion of the prepaid plan. BUT, we would like to get phones where we could use data if we want, and this Ting plan fits the bill. And a free smartphone would really end any doubt I have about it!

  74. It'd be an increase for us because we're paying less than $25/month for two non-smart phones. BUT, of course, we'd then have texting and occasional internet capability, so value-wise, it does make a smart phone sound a lot more plausible.

Plus, I suppose we could benefit from upgrading just one of them, and not being able to text is starting to become socially awkward... You actually have me considering this 🙂

  75. I don't have Ting in my area (we have Virgin Mobile as our pre-paid Sprint affiliate), but I do have a Kyocera Rise, so I can let you all know that it's a good phone. I've had it for about a year, and I have no reason/desire to upgrade, even if (in the smart phone world), it's a bit "outdated." The qwerty keyboard is really good if you use it for texting or surfing the web a lot, and it has wi-fi capability, so like Kristen does, you can really limit your data usage by activating that. My only qualm is that it tends to freeze up a lot if you use a lot of apps. My husband and I have the same phone (both Kyocera Rises, not the *same* phone), and I use more apps than he does, so mine freezes up probably once a day, whereas I don't think his has ever frozen up.

  76. Wow! We would save $28 a month, that's over $672 in 2 years. (If I calculated correctly. We have 3 phones and I divided them up on the "calculator.") I'm just not certain out area has Sprint availability since we live in a rural area. This would be great for my daughter as I am one of those mean parents who don't believe children under 14 should have their own cell phone, but do see the value of having one they can use when away from home.

  77. We would save an obnoxious amount. We currently have Verizon Wireless. I currently have iphone. Darling has my old flip phone.

  78. I'm using a pay-as-you go basic plan, so it depends on how much I use the phone how much I would save. I'm thinking maybe $5-10 a month at my current usage rates. But I don't have a smart phone, and that would be super nice to have on occasion!

  79. I think I would probably save $50 a month, up to $70 if my boyfriend and I both switched. I've been thinking about switching for a while now 🙂

  80. With our 2 phones and no data, we would save $744 over 2 years or about $30+ per month. Works for me! 🙂

  81. It would not save me anything as I currently have no cell phone, but after reading about your experience, I totally want one 🙂

  82. Looks like we would save some major $$$ dropping our bill from over $230.00 a month to about $68.00 !! I joked with my husband we could almost take the kids to Disney after two years!!

  83. Even though I don't necessarily want to win (I'm the one who commented before about having a Kyocera Rise), just wanted to pop on and say my bill would actually go UP with Ting. The comparison calculator quoted me $32/mo, and I pay only $25 with Virgin Mobile. This looks great for a lot of you guys though :).

  84. Well....I'm not sure what I'd save because I'm STILL waiting for the results to load. That is typically of my current service. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in this contract for another year. But I'm getting out as soon as I can. My daughter would LOVE to have a smartphone. She's saving for a used one now.

  85. Yikes, $2184 a year, $80 monthly. Ting definitely peaks my interest. I already pinned in my frugal folder when you posted it.

  86. We would save $63/month! That is huge! That amount, combined with paying off some debt before the end of the year may be my ticket to staying home and homeschooling!!

  87. I'm already on the sprint pay per month plan, but I would save $20 a month by switching my service to ting! That's amazing!

  88. WOW!!! I would save $29 per month with average bill $21 per month and it calculated that at a two year savings of about $670. That's huge...thanks for the info Kristin!!

  89. The calculator said this:
"You would save $4224.00 in 2 years by switching to Ting for mobile!
That's an average of $176.00 a month in savings with an average bill of $24.00."
This is hard to believe! It sounds too good to be true, so my husband and I will look more into this. I can't stand that we pay $200 a month for the four people in our home-- I think it's ridiculous! I want to make a change:)

  90. We would save $71 a month and my kids would have data. They don't currently have smart phones. My only concern is having to buy the smartphones. I am afraid all the money we would save would be spent on phones.

  91. The website said I would save about $2400 that is a lot of money we are wasting right now. Thanks for bringing this option to my attention. I would love to win this phone!!

  92. I don't actually have a traditional cell phone plan at all, so I can't use their form to figure out how much I would save. I will need to start using one soon though, so can I still be eligible to win? 🙂

  93. Well, needless to say, I wouldn't be saving ANYTHING. Why? Because my husband and I do not have any cell phones at all-- heck we just made the jump to cordless a couple of years ago! 🙂 Maybe we would if we had the smart phone... less home phone?? I don't know... but I would love to win this because it would probably help a little since I am having to start a part-time job to help pay off some bills. Thanks and have a great day!

  94. Ting says I would save $72 a month. That's for the first cell phone on our plan...the second one would probably involve less savings. It's tempting!

  95. We have saved over $100 per month since switching. I can't believe how much we use to spend on cell service. I watch our usage very closely now so we don't go over any minutes/texts.

  96. We are actually saving up to switch to Ting when our current contract ends in a few months (we'll need to buy Sprint devices). We would save $103 a month. That is not chump change!!

  97. We are going to be saving like 140 a month (paying about 60 a month for what we currently use) and about 3360 in savings over a two year period! We are so switching!

  98. I would save $45 a month... My husband has a new Droid and I have an ancient phone from sprint which has an amazing battery life and refuses to die, no matter how many puddles I drop it in : ) I would love to have a smartphone though...

  99. Well....I can't get the saving calculator to work. Doesn't like my login info...which works just perfectly over on the actual AT&T site, so I'm not sure what the issue is......HOWEVER being that our bill is about $183 for 2 phones I'm guessing we'd be saving somewhere in the neighborhood of $150/month!! WOWZERS! Hope I win the phone!

  100. It would take my Tmobile bill from $91/month to $64 (plus taxes)--not bad at all! I'm sure the first year, we'd come out even due to buying phones, but it is definitely worth it!

  101. The calculator says I would save 800 bucks in 2 years. That's pretty impressive! If I won the phone, I would give it to my husband because he doesn't even have a smartphone.

  102. I would save about $26 dollars a month. We currently have AT&T Go Phones where we pay 10 cents per minute for calls and 20 cents per text. With Ting I could save and finally get a smart phone. That would be great. Thanks Kristen and Ting!

  103. The website says we would save a ridiculous amount over 2 yrs! YES! (Too embarrassed to post the amount )....Almost the total cost of my monthly bill now.....sounds great!

  104. Thank you for your helpful hints. I have reviewed TING and am switching myself when I get back from vacation. I hate paying for things I don't use and TING seems to get that! Lisa

  105. I would save $1493.28 over two years and more if I sell my current phone. My biggest concern would be reception. I'm in a more remote area and my cell is the only phone I have so if the signal was bad, I'd be out of luck in an emergency.

  106. Since I don't have a smart phone, it's not that I would save that much, but I would just so love to have data access. The calculator said we would save about $1400, but I think that's a stretch. However, if we could have data access for the same price, I would be very happy.

  107. It says I wouldn't save money, but I think that's because currently I don't have a smartphone and have no data charges. I'd love to have one, though. 🙂

  108. I have been desperately needing to switch something and save some money. We are currently with Sprint, but are spending way too much! I have already talked to my husband about Ting. According to my estimates we would save over $200 a month. My husband has a very old blackberry and wants to update so it sounds like Ting is just what I have been hoping for. A FREE phone for my hubby would be a blessing, too. Thanks so much for the information.

  109. $1584 over two years. That is incredible savings for our tight budget! I will definitely be looking in to this.

  110. It says I would save $192 over 2 years. I must admit, it would be nice to upgrade from my Tracfone flip phone.

  111. Oh.My.Word.
It says 6,448.08 over two years. (And that's not counting 3 of our phones).

Thanks so much for the heads up!!!

  112. I only have a prepaid TracFone (for the last 3 yrs) that I pay $10/mo for something like 800 minutes per year, no data (some texts). According to Ting's calculator, it would actually cost me five dollars more per month, but I'd be willing to do that to upgrade (and get a free phone). Also, our teenage son will be driving in a year or two, and I'd like him to have a phone. So please enter me in the drawing!

  113. That's an average of $9.00 a month in savings with an average bill of $15.00. Thats over $216 for 2 years, and I don't have a data plan on my phone.
I don't have a smart phone. I can't do anything but make calls/texts and have been interested in Ting since I read your blog about it the other week. I would probably switch my son over - and my husband would probably come over too. He gets caps on his data plan and he does not enjoy that as he has to use his phone for work. I don't have a budget for a new phone - otherwise I would have switched already. Thanks!

  114. My husband has one of those pay by the minute plans, so his usage always varies from month to month. But, I would love to see him on a plan where we can plan/estimate what his bill would be, and I think Ting would be great for that. Plus, a new phone would be a big help. His is an ancient flip phone, so, welcome to the 2000's!!

  115. It is difficult to judge exact savings for our family because my kids and I have pay as you go plans with Verizon phones, approximately $90 per month, sometimes more if the kids use up their monthly allotment of paid for minutes. This is with no data, etc. We've outgrown this system, which we set up years ago, so I think Ting would be great for our family, saving us $40-$50 per month.

  116. We would save $54.00 each month. We are seriously looking into this option. Thanks so much for getting the word out on this company.

  117. I'm in the group who wouldn't save. I use less than 30 min a month talk with a flip phone on T-Mobile.

I don't like monthly bills and pay anything I can once a year. I even pay my internet by the year.

  118. I've been using a really crappy but free phone from work. I've wanted to upgrade, but didn't want to spend $60/month like my dh. With Ting at $32 per month, I'd save $28 each month or $336 per year!

  119. Thanks for this offer! I don't have a cell phone so this wouldn't save me money yet. I have not gotten one due to the high monthly cost. I would get one after hearing about Ting. Smart phone, uh yes please. I say if you are going to have a phone, go large or go home.

  120. We would save about $20.00 a month. Even though thats not very much, we would use that savings some where else as other things are starting to creep up.

  121. I would save $320 over two years! I use iWireless right now (which is runs off the Sprint network and is pretty inexpensive) but this would be an even better deal!

  122. With just one Ting phone, we would save over $80 per month. That is a huge savings obviously. This would be awesome to win. Thanks

  123. No savings here, but that is because we use our phone as a hotspot for home internet. We use over ten GB a month for data! Luckily, we have an unlimited data plan that we got back when there was such a thing. I am still interested in ting for their phones, though!

  124. I have a Samsung phone and sucking people into a bill instead I said no to the idea why get a so call budget bill when my phone still woks and does what I need it to do.
