Grocery Spending and Menu: Pre-vacation (and backwards) edition
The Menu
As I was planning the menu for the upcoming week, I realized that this is the last one before we go to the beach for two weeks. Woohoo!
Saturday
- Asian Chicken Pasta Salad
- Sandwich bread, toasted and buttered
- fresh corn
Sunday-We'll be with my in-laws to celebrate several family birthdays, so no cooking for me here. I'll just help with the prep while we're at my in-laws. 🙂
Monday
- Crab Cakes (this is part of something we're doing in homeschool. I'll post about it soon!)
- watermelon
- some kind of bread...not sure what
Tuesday (I'm going to be gone all day, documenting the arrival of my niece, so I needed an easy meal)
- Bacon Turkey club sandwiches
- raw veggies
- fruit salad
Wednesday
- Grilled marinated chicken breasts
- fresh corn
- watermelon
Thursday
- Asian Tilapia
- whatever bread/veggies need using before vacation
Friday
- this will probably be a clean-out-the-fridge night
The Spending
Because our milk consumption is all off-kilter (due to the cow from the farm not producing), I had to make a quick stop at a local grocery store to get milk. I also bought a chuck roast, some eggs, and some cocoa, for a total of $12.28.
I spent $53.23 at Aldi and $36.30 at Weis, so my total grocery bill for the week was $101.81. That's $1.81 over budget, but I was under by more than that last week, so it's all good. 🙂
The Food
In addition to the food pictured here, I also received a big bag of green beans and tomatoes from my mom. Yay for her garden! (note to self: start taking care of your tomato plants earlier next year so that you have ripe tomatoes before September)
I normally go grocery shopping every Thursday, but since we leave for the beach next weekend, I'm hoping to skip a trip to the store this coming week and instead we'll buy groceries at the beach. I can't promise I'll take a picture of that, though!

What beach do you go to?
Enjoy the beach!
An Aldi Supermarket finally made it to my area. I was very excited to see the store. It is not as cheap as PriceRite but just pennies off. It is so much cleaner than the local PriceRite. I think I may have found my new favorite supermarket.
Randi, we'll be in Myrtle Beach. 🙂
Tania, thanks!
Linda, that is awesome! I love my Aldi so much.
Do grocery coupons print out backwards? That is the only way I can get them to print.
If you still have green tomatoes, harvest them and make fried green tomatoes with them, it's very yummy.
