December bits and pieces
I took part in the Cuisinart recall.
Mr. FG sent me an article yesterday about the Cuisinart food processor blade recall, which affects food processors all the way back to 1996!
I got mine as a wedding present in 1997, and sure enough, it was listed in the recall.
(my Cuisinart making strawberry banana ice cream)
I tried calling the phone number, but it was very backed up. Happily, you can submit your information for a recall on their website instead, so that's what I did.
And a new, free blade should be on its way.
I kinda sorta doubt that my blade would come apart at this point, given that it's been fine for nearly 20 years, but hey, the new one is free, and I'll be able to use it without worry.
If you've got a Cuisinart, check and see if it's part of this huge recall!

The cookie winner
For the first time in Frugal Girl cookie-guessing history, no one got the answers exactly right. I guess we were especially tricky this year?
(Very few people guessed that the melted snowman was made by Sonia. 😉 )
Anyway, I'm giving the $50 Amazon gift card to Angela, who was the first person to get just two wrong. Congrats, Angela! I'll be emailing you today.
Here are all the correct answers.
Man, I love Zoe's tree with the fluffy scarf. So great. And the lips on Lisey's bell crack me up every time too.
Thanks so much for playing along, everyone! We always have a great time watching your guesses roll in.
I finally have my new phone working!
My phone got here first, but then my case was delayed by four days. And when my case finally arrived, we discovered I needed a different SIM card, which took another several days to get here.
Such a first-world problem, right??
Happily, my old phone was still limping along, so it's not like I was completely phone-less while I waited.
Mr. FG was sweet enough to help me get it up and running as soon as my SIM card got here, and I'm now in the land of updated cell phones. Whee! Everything works so nicely now, and I'm glad I spent the $35 to upgrade. 😉

Aaaand, that's all, folks! See you tomorrow for menu/grocery talk. Have yourself a lovely Thursday!

Gah! I'm never any good at guessing games. 🙂 Bravo for using that recall! We had a recall issued for our Samsung washer, which I've been dragging my feet on doing. But it's all about being safe, so I need to get that done!
Mr. Picky Pincher and I bought a gingerbread house kit (on sale, of course), so we'll be building that lil' guy sometime next week before Christmas. I love decorating goodies for the holidays! One year I'd love to bake my own gingerbread, but that's for a Mrs. Picky Pincher with more time on her hands.
Goodness, I was way off on my cookie guesses!
My food processor has a stripped gasket on the blade assembly...I keep thinking I'll fix it, but I don't really know what I'm doing, and they don't sell a replacement gasket-I have to order a whole blade assembly. I just wonder if I'm not better off buying a better-quality appliance? Or maybe I should just fix it so that it doesn't end up in a landfill somewhere...I was hopeful that my situation would be affected by the recall and they would send me a new blade assembly, but I'm pretty sure my blades aren't riveted 🙁
Oh wow, it's a Cuisinart and that happened to it?
Have you considered looking for either a used gasket, or a used processor from which to take the gasket or assembly? I'd start with Freecycle or the free part of Craigslist. If that didn't work, then Craigslist, Goodwill online, or eBay. On, and there are often FB pages for regions, for selling or giving away of stuff.
You might think this is crazy, but via Freecycle someone gave me a rocker for an old-fashioned pressure cooker. Just the rocker. I have no idea why she had this hanging around but it worked out well for all concerned.
Thank you so much for mentioning that recall. I saw it yesterday and ignored it but decided to give it a check after I read your post and sure enough! My processor was purchased in 2011 and has hardly been used, but it would be mine that breaks and gets chewed by my mother-in-law! Phew...thank God THAT didn't happen. ;D
Haha, that was me too! I saw the article circulating, read the title, and thought, "there's no way that applies to my old food processor!" But then Mr. FG sent the article and I'm glad I actually read it that time.
Wow, I'm not sure I got any of the cookies right. Oh well, I never get close on the Great Cookie Maker Mystery.
I gave my daughter a Cuisinart in the last year of the recall period. I'll have to see if she has checked the recall list. Since the Honda Civic we bought for her when she was in college was on the airbag recall list, I'm just going to assume the food processor we gave her is on a recall list, too.
Congrats on getting the phone going. I'm such a technophobe, I made my kids set up my smart phone that was a present from them, but I do use it all by myself 🙂 and I love the ease of taking pictures. Grabbing a quick photo is so easy now. My husband and I saw someone doing price comparisons at one of the home improvement stores -- she was taking photos of items and prices and sending them to her husband at the competition's store, where he was busy doing the same thing. My husband and I looked at each other and said, "Now why did we never think of that?"
Thanks for the website link on the Cuisinart recall. Turns out mine was on the list as well so I submitted my information. Its sad to admit, but if I had to make a phone call, I probably would put it off until I totally forgot about it all together. I really hate making phone calls, but filling out a form on the internet is no big deal. You just saved me from myself!
Thank you for posting that Cuisinart recall link. I had assumed my blade was not included in the recall since mine was bought in 1993, but it actually was. I put in my information and will also be receiving a safer blade.
THANK YOU!!!!
Yes, thank you for posting about the recall. My machine is much newer than yours, but it was still part of the recall.
Yay! I think that's me who won! If not, congrats to whoever it was. lol 🙂
My husband recently sent an email complaint to KitchenAid regarding our food processor because we are on our second bowl. Without being dropped or man-handled in any way, the silly old thing's handle was breaking. We received a new one in the mail last week. I like it when a company stands behind their (expensive) product!
Thanks for the heads up on the Cuisinart recall. I've got a new blade headed my way!
Thanks for the recall info. on the Cuisinart food processor. My model was listed on the recall.
After you mentioned that no one had gotten all 6 cookies right, I considered analyzing the wrong responses and forming an answer accordingly. Like a giant game of Clue, but easier. Looks like I ran out of time.
Thank you for mentioning the recall! I just checked mine and sure enough the blade was recalled. It's amazing how many fantastic things I have learned by being subscribed to your blog. 🙂
Excellent! So glad you're getting a new blade too.
How was your phone only a $35 upgrade??!! The price I see on Amazon for a new unlocked SE is $350. Did you trade in your old phone for over $300? I am looking to get my first smartphone, but the prices make me take a big gulp. I have been looking at Androids that have a bit of extra storage and it will be over $100 but less than $200.
Ah, in the post I wrote about it, I mentioned that I had an Amazon gift card and also a bunch of points from my Amazon credit card...so it was only $35 out of pocket for me. The actual phone was definitely more than $35! 😉
Androids are a cheaper way to go for sure, although you can find some great refurbished deals on iPhones on Amazon (that's what we've always done). Joshua's got an Android though, and he loves it.
Kristen, thank you for the information about the Cuisinart blade recall. I stopped reading the rest of your post to check my processor. Sure enough--GAAAH! Anyhoo, I filled in the form and the replacement blade is on its way! God bless you and yours with a very Merry Christmas.
