Because this never gets old...

and because I'm short on time today, please enjoy this. It's so excellent, even if you've seen it eleventy times before.

  1. Haha I saw a meme of this video and thought it was a brilliant take on debt and personal finance!

Mr. FAF and I just got a Roku TV, so we can now add a lot of channels to watch. I don't know if I'll have time for all the good TV shows, but it's refreshing to know that Saturday Night Live might be one of them!

  2. I hadn't seen this before, but I love it. Thanks for posting it!
Sad thing is.... I know someone who could be the wife in that commercial. She spent and spent, and the credit union finally closed her account because of her constant overdrafts. Her washer and dryer both quit and she had no money to replace them because she was already in too much debt. She owned a very nice piece of furniture that had been given to her years before, and her mother convinced a friend to buy it for $1000, to help her afford the washer and dryer. This woman got the $1000 for the furniture and.... bought jewelry with it. Seriously.

    1. JD, I was reading through the comments before posting my own. Oh dear, what a painful story. I hope the woman you know has grown wiser.

    2. Oh no. That's so sad. And there must have been something going on deep inside of that woman that made her behave in such an irrational manner financially. It probably wasn't about the jewelry!

      1. Yes, she had some issues from a difficult set of family relationships and history, and I think spending was her therapy. She wanted everything new, expensive, and now. She's moved away and I don't know how she is doing now, but last I heard, she was working a good job. I hope she learned to handle her finances! I spent a lot of time gently talking finances with her. I felt like a big hurdle had passed the day she asked me if she couldn't just clean and re-use zip-top bags that had only held some bread, instead of throwing them away.

  3. This was hilarious! I've never seen it before so thanks for sharing! I almost busted out laughing in the middle of my work cubicle.

Of course, I completely agree. If you don't have the money in your account to buy something, don't charge it on credit! Buy what you can afford and save for larger purchases until you have the cash to afford them.

That, unfortunately, is a lesson I had to learn the hard way but hey, life is all about learning. 🙂

  4. A classic! It's such a good one that Steve Martin even talks about it in his autobiography, "Born Standing Up." (just listened to the audiobook)
