Frugal ones, I’m happy to bring you a super offer from Ting Mobile today.

If you’ve hung around here for very long, you know that we are huge fans of Ting Mobile. We’ve currently got four phones on their plan, and our bill generally hovers around $60/month.

In other words, it’s ridiculously affordable!

Why is Ting so cheap?

It’s not because it runs on a crappy network!   Ting runs on  Sprint’s CDMA, EV-DO 3G, and 4G LTE nationwide network, plus GSM service via the T-Mobile network.

Rather, Ting keeps costs down by billing you for services in three different categories: talk, text, and data.

Each month, you’re billed for a small, medium, large, or extra-large level for each individual category.

So, if you talk a lot but use very little data, you’re not stuck paying for data you don’t need.   Or if you text a bunch but rarely talk on your phone, you’ll save money by not paying for talking coverage.

You do pay a base $6/phone charge per month, but aside from that and taxes, your monthly bill is based on your usage.

Which means that you can control how much you spend by controlling how you use your phone.

You can get a quick idea of what your bill would be on Ting by answering a few questions right here.

I want to switch. How do I get started?

First:

Hop on over to Ting’s site to check and see if you can bring your phone over to Ting. It’s super easy to do.

If you can’t bring your current phone over, Ting has lots of options available on their site, and you can also purchase a phone elsewhere. We’ve bought our phones from Amazon, as there are some great refurbished deals there.

You’ll just need to make sure the phone you buy is either a Sprint-branded device or an unlocked device.   You can read more about that here.

Second:

Check Ting’s coverage maps to make sure that the coverage is good in your area.

Third (and very importantly!):

Use this link to get signed up with Ting, and you’ll get a $50 credit!

This is a super great deal, and it’s only available for two weeks and only through this link.   Normally, Frugal Girl readers get a $25 discount for signing up through my link, so this is a doubled discount!

I know switching cell phone carriers is kind of a pain, but it’s one of those things that can pay you dividends every month, and I think you’ll be glad you took the plunge.

Let me know if you have questions and I’ll do my best to answer!

P.S.  If you’re bringing your own device to Ting, you’ll need to order a SIM card, which only costs around $5.   Ting will walk you through choosing the right SIM card for your phone…it’s really easy!\

P.P.S. If you are an extremely heavy data user, you will probably save more money by sticking with a cell plan that offers unlimited data.   But as long as you can manage to control your usage and stick to using wifi more than data, Ting should offer you significant savings.

This is perfect! I've been wanting to try them out...we currently use Straight Talk and like it, but it's $45 per month per phone...if I can cut my bill significantly, and the service is great in my area, I can maybe convince dh to switch too!

We have Cricket. Verison network. 2 phones $65/mos with unlimited. We are on our phones all the time mostly watching Netflix and texting. We have excellent coverage through out the US and have been very happy with customer support.

Great timing! I've been looking at Ting vs. Comcast/Xfinity Wireless. It's time for me to switch from Verizon, that's for sure. Not yet sure which one I'll go with.

I went with Ting for my cell phone largely because of your recommendation, Kristen, and I've been pleased with it. My son and I are currently on it and we average around $25/month. There are times when my bill is higher for a month or so, and I'm grateful to have the flexibility with my plan. I'd also like to mention that Ting's customer service is excellent! All of their representatives have been helpful and they follow up with me to ensure that my needs have been met. Recently my phone was giving me problems and Ting sent me, free of charge, a new SIM card to help remedy the problem. If you are like me and appreciate the extra support (I'm not hugely tech-savvy), you will like working with Ting!
