Help me decide what to bake!

I'm lacking inspiration and ideas for this week's Wednesday Baking post, so I thought I'd ask YOU what you'd like to see. After all, these posts are supposed to be helpful to you, not me!

Anything in particular you want to learn how to bake? or something you want to see me bake? Muffins? Bread? Biscuits? Cookies? Bars?

And I'm sorry, but I'm not going to show you how to bake pie (someone asked yesterday!). I dislike pastry crust pretty strongly (even well-executed pastry), so I've never put the effort into learning how to make a good one.

Pretty much anything else is fair game, though!

  1. We are always looking for Apple Anything this time of year. Apple bread, apple cupcakes!. apple crisp...done differently than Betty Crocker...or maybe Pumpkin, but it may be too early for that...the orange frosted cupcakes sound yummy though.

  2. I have been a longtime lurker and love your blog.
You once mentioned whole wheat cinnamon raisin bread, and I would love to see your recipe for that. I have made several of your bread recipes and they have all turned out wonderful so I would be very happy to find a good cinnamon riasin one.

  3. Another vote for Apple dishes! I'm thinking about baking teacher gifts this year so I'd really love to see something yummy I could bake in my mini-loaf pans.

  4. Well, how about a combo - apple & pumpkin something? Pie, nope. Cobbler, nah. Cookies - dicey. Muffins or quick bread - I hold out hope!

  5. Ohhh, Theresa! I have an apple/pumpkin muffin recipe...you just reminded me of it! Perfect.

I just baked something today that I'll use this coming Wednesday, and next Wednesday I'll do the pumpkin-apple muffin recipe.

    Keep the suggestions coming!

  6. Jenessa, so glad you de-lurked. I love to hear from my readers. You're right, I did mention some cinnamon bread one time, so I'll put that on my list of post ideas. Thanks!

  7. Muffins sound wonderful! I had my first muffin attempt about three weeks ago (blueberry) and they turned out more like cornbread. My husband and I still ate them but I would love to learn better muffin making techniques! I also would like some apple recipes or pear since they are also becoming abundant.

My husband loves cheesecake and pumpkin pie so I was wondering if there was anything out there such as a pumpkin cheesecake recipe?

  8. What about soft pretzels? I tried a recipe from the Miserly Moms book, but it didn't come out good enough to try again.

  9. I'd like to see some recipes with sweeteners other than refined sugar - recipes using honey, fructose or agave syrup for example ๐Ÿ˜‰ Not the most frugal of options, but I have a sugar intolerant daughter so am always creating sugar free stuff - honey can be reasonably cheap. Good to see you back btw; your holiday photos were beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I'm gonna toss in my vote for biscuits. Your bread recipes have been great, but I really need help with biscuits. Mine just aren't good. I"m sure I'd like whatever you give us. I've tried many, many of your recipes-all with good results.

  11. I had to de-lurk and finally post a comment or two. LOVE your blog Kristen, I have gotten so many good ideas & inspirations from you! ๐Ÿ™‚ Ok, now I have to ask why you detest pie crust? The taste or making it?

  12. @Anne Oh, making the crust isn't the problem! I just don't really like the taste. Traditional crust just doesn't seem to me like it goes with a sweet filling, you know? I infinitely prefer graham cracker crusts or cookie crusts.

I'm glad you delurked...it's so much fun to hear from my readers!

Sarah, I will work on a biscuit recipe for one of these weeks.

  13. I couldn't agree more about pie crust. I like graham cracker crusts, but I do not care much for "regular" pie crusts.

And if I get to ask for something, it would be: Challah-bread, bagels, or bread-bowls. I've had such good luck with your bread recipes, I would love to branch out even more.

Once again, thanks for the wonderful and inspiring blog. And I loved the vacation photos too.

  14. I totally understand about the pie crust. I kind of like them all - regular flaky crust, graham cracker, cookie, etc.
If it's a really sweet fruit pie filling - I do like the regular flaky crust. It offsets some of the sweetness.
Your vacation looked like it was such fun! Reminded me of our family vacation in August - lots of great beach time!
