I'm not really done...
...but the basic parts of the bed are painted. Yay!

I always have a moment of doubt when I start a project like this, but I'm happy to say that I am now 100% sure that I like the bed better this way.
I talked to Zoe about it yesterday and asked her if she thought we should leave the bed wood-toned.
"No!", she said.
I asked her why, and she said, "Then it would look....not good."
There you have it-the authoritative word from Zoe.
I haven't even started on the drawer part at all, but I don't think that'll be terribly time consuming (though it's going to be a bit of a pain since these drawers are the type that won't come out all the way).
Did I tell you that one of the slats for the box spring/mattress area broke on the way home?
Well, it did.
But just last night I found a board in our scrap pile that appears to be just the right thickness, so once Mr. FG chops it down to the right length, I think we'll have ourselves two more slats.
So, we're getting pretty close to the point where Zoe can actually use her bed, and she and I are both pretty excited about that.

Lo0king good! I am with Zoe, it will "look good" with her other furniture. I am excited for her.
The bed looks great! And the weather has been perfect for working on a project like this - dry and sunny. Can't wait to see the bed "in situ".
It looks so much better than the pine finish. Kudos!
An extra slat on a [-girls-] kids bed is always a good thing. (says she who with her sister broke her antique solid mahogany bed.)
nice!
Looks wonderful! Wow, you are fast! Would take me forever.
Wow! It looks great! What color comforter will you choose to go with it? (trying to make a mental picture)
Anyone have ideas how to keep the frame slats from sliding out of place? My girls bounce/jump a lot on the edge of their beds while chatting, and the slats keep sliding out.
Drill leader holes in them and screw them into the bedframe.
Thanks, SnowCat! Now why didn't I even think of that?!
Yep, what SnowCat said! We did that with Joshua's bed.
The comforter? I'm not sure yet...I'll have to chat with Zoe and see what she wants.
Oh, much better than the wood! It's perfect for a little girl's room. 🙂 Love it!
It look great! You are the re-painting queen!

And I am the queen of not reading my own writing before hitting "submit."

Looks fabulous! I love white furniture, you did a fantastic job.
Beautiful! You are amazing!
Wow, it looks so great! White is almost always better than pine finish. 😉
A pretty bed for a pretty girl!
Love all your painting projects. Any ideas on the best way to paint wicker? I just picked up two chairs and would love them to be painted a bright color for my porch.
I'd use spray paint for wicker if I were you...brushing it would be a nightmare!
Love the white paint! Ever since being inspired by your "How to Paint Furniture" post, I have been hunting down all kinds of bargains to paint!
I know...once you get started, then you can't really look at a piece of furniture without imagining what paint would do to it!
so far so great!!! looks really good....
can't wait to see it all together!
I think something bright for the comforter!
I'm thinking she'll choose something colorful...and probably something with purple in it. 😉
So pretty! Love your comment about having a moment of doubt at the beginning of each project -- thanks for that! It is so weirdly comforting and inspiring to hear. I am riven with doubts pretty constantly so you have given hope to this blunderer!
Priskill, because each project is slightly different, it's the uncertainty of how it'll all play out that cause us to have these doubts, I think. You don't doubt how laundry will go, because one laundry day is much like the last. The thought I keep in mind while I'm charging into a new project is -- any blunders can be fixed or covered up. It's all changeable. You will see where your blunders are/were, but no one else will, until you point them out.
I love it!!! Amazing what a little paint and time can do 🙂
