The extent of my Black Friday shopping

It wasn’t really Black Friday shopping at all, actually! CVS’s Black Friday deals were running for three days…Thanksgiving Day, Friday, and Saturday. I loathe Black Friday crowds, so I was very pleased with the idea of shopping ON Thanksgiving Day. I was a bit nervous that there would be a whole lot of people there, but apparently everyone else was home cooking, as the parking lot was nearly empty.

CVS was advertising a bunch of items for free after Extra Care Bucks. They were out of a couple of advertised items, but I managed to snag all of this for nothing:

Actually, I had two $1 coupons, so that paid for the tax with a bit leftover. I could add up the total price of the items and boast that I saved X amount of dollars, but truth be told, I would never have bought all of that stuff at CVS if it wasn’t free. I’d never pay $8.99 for a tube of lip gloss(that’s the regular price), for example!

Still, I’m pretty pleased that I managed to get all of that for free, and I’m especially stoked about the makeup powder, because I was all but out of that.

Did you do any Black Friday shopping?

I got a lot of the stuff you did. I also got some Bic razors and the Black and Decker coffeemaker. I spend $.64 OOP and $3 on a CVS gift card and got $19 ECBs back!

I didn’t do any Black Friday shopping. I never have and this year with traveling it wasn’t a good option. Though, the stories I’ve heard, don’t make me regret missing out on the deals this year at all!

How in the world did you get that all free? Seriously, how does that work?

I cant believe you can get that stuff for free! It amazes me the amount of free stuff americans can get. I live in Canada and we do not have any stores like that. (at least not that i am aware of)

Way to go! I should have checked out my local CVS and picked up some of this stuff for free as well. It’s amazing how many things you can get for free or nearly free when you take the time to look!

Snarky Lady threw your name out since I just posted about my Thanksgiving CVS trip. It’s amazing how many good deals you can get from ECB’s.

Imagine I used to pay FULL price for this stuff. ~gasp~

Just found your blog through Freecycle! Yay! I love the Tightwad Gazette, Goodwill, and all things frugal so I’m psyched. My mom was telling me about this CVS/Rite Aid thing she has going on where she gets all this stuff for free… your post reminded me that I need to look into it. Any tips on how do it right?

Oh cool! You’re the first reader who’s said they got here through Freecycle. ;) Welcome!

I will try to do a post about CVS in the coming week, but in the meantime, go to http://www.moneysavingmom.com. She has some good CVS and Walgreens tutorials, and each week she posts the best deals.

What IS Black Friday? I got to your great blog through Low Impact Man’s page and have been avidly reading down through your old posts. I’m in the UK, and I know we don’t have anything like Black Friday here.

Ah! Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, and at least here in the US, stores offer ridiculously good prices to get people out to start their Christmas shopping. It works, because the stores are usually CRAZY on the day. I try to avoid it as much as possible!
