While I'm posting about blog-related stuff...

img_8038-1...I thought I'd ask a couple of questions. I write The Frugal Girl mainly to serve my readers(although writing here helps me to save money too!), and so it's important to me to know what you like and what would be helpful to you. So, I'd be grateful if you'd leave a comment with your input.

First, I'm wondering if a weekly Q&A post would be welcome. Several other bloggers do this(Trent at The Simple Dollar does, and my friend Katy, who writes The Non-Consumer Advocate, just started doing this too), and I always find those types of posts interesting to read. Plus, you guys do send in questions pretty regularly, and if I had a weekly post in which to answer them, it might help me get around to that more promptly than I do sometimes.

If the questions needed short answers, I might put several in one post, or if the question needed a lengthy answer, I would devote an entire post to it. Of course, if there were no questions that week I'd just do a normal sort of post on who-knows-what-topic(which is how I usually write!).

Secondly, I was wondering if a post with links to articles from other frugal blogs in the blogosphere would be interesting to you. When I read these types of posts on other blogs, I find all sorts of neat articles I'd never have found otherwise, and perhaps you would benefit in a similar way if I did posts like these. On the other hand, I figure you probably come here to see what I have to say and not so much to see what other people are saying. So, if I did something like this, I'd probably just do it occasionally and not weekly.

If you have any other ideas or suggestions about how I could make my blog more helpful to you, I'm certainly open to hearing them.

  1. I think a Q&A would be great. I don't know quite what to tell you about the links though. I just started doing them a few weeks ago, and I'm not so sure it was the best idea. I think it works for some bloggers and not so much for others. Not sure why!

BTW - I think your blog is very helpful. I've gotten a lot of ideas here! Thanks and keep up the great work!

  2. Q&A posts once a week would be nice to see.

You should definitely put links, I think. That's how I find out about frugal blogs- through others' blogs. This is actually my first visit, having seen your link on Bargain Briana. 🙂

  3. I like the Q and A idea.

I think I would like links that you'd post. One reason I like your frugal blog more than others is because it's simple. Since reading your blog I have begun to bake most of our bread, keep our heat down, and budget weekly for groceries. Easy, everyday things to do as opposed to other frugal sites which have suggestions for freebies, coupons and lots of advertising. I don't want to be on the computer more, I just want to live a good and frugal life!

  4. I like the Q&A post idea. One thing I enjoy about Trent's weekly mailbag is the huge variety of questions he answers, from things directly related to his blog to topics that have nothing to do with his typical posts (one time he answered a question about who he thinks will win a football game!)

I think a post with links to other article(s) is only useful if you are using the article as a launching pad for your own post. I don't like Trent's posts with just a list of articles he read and found interesting. However, a list in a sidebar of other blogs that you visit regularly and enjoy would be nice! That's how I found yours!

  5. hi there! i've been following your blog for just a few weeks now but i LOVE it!!! i would love a q&a because i always have a few niggling questions for you after reading your posts.

i don't care so much for links to other articles.

  6. Q&A would be great. If it were a regular feature perhaps it would cut down on mail for you and duplicate questions, and all the readers could be informed at one time.

I'm not so sure about the links. I have a tendency to get bogged down and sidetracked with them... like the other reader, I just want the simple and frugal info not coupons, contests and especially not alot of advertising.

You have a great blog and post about good topics. That's why I come by everyday to check out your wisdom and learn a thing or two. Keep up the good work!

  7. I would like to see the links to other blogs. Sometimes I see interesting articles I would not otherwise see; other times the blog is sufficiently interesting that I start trolling for it daily. But I will never find all the interesting topics by myself.

  8. I like the idea of Q&A. When I sent you a question I felt your response was pretty prompt. No problems there.

I'm not sure about the links either. I guess if you read something and feel you MUST do a spin on it I'd love to read it. I often do that with your material as it gets my brain working when I come to read.

  9. You just answered my hamburger bun recipe question really quickly yesterday, so I think you're doing fine 🙂 but the Q & A would be okay. Probably not more than weekly, though.

About links...I like YOU and YOUR approach to frugality, so I'd hope that you wouldn't just put up a bunch of links and call it your blog for the day. But I don't think you would--you take your role seriously and don't seem to opt for the lazy way out. I've liked your blogs the way they are; I suppose an occasional link would be okay. But not too many, too often.
