This week's menu plan
There was no grocery shopping this week (yay!) except for a $1.49 trip to the organic store to buy cilantro.
I would totally have bought another container of the world's best sour cream while I was there, but they had none.
I hope this doesn't mean they've stopped carrying it. That would be sad.
On the upside, the lack of sour cream kept my grocery shopping to $1.49.
Actually, I also bought a lollipop for each kid from the bulk bin.

At 15¢ apiece, they're a pretty decent bargain, and my kids definitely get at least 15¢ of enjoyment out of them.

Our produce supply is getting woefully low (I think we're down to half an apple in the fruit department), so I'm probably going to have to make a produce run sometime today.
For breakfast this week, we'll be eating eggs, toast, fruit, yogurt, granola, and maybe pancakes if I am organized.
Lunches options will be sandwiches made with whole wheat bread, homemade yogurt, yogurt smoothies, cottage cheese, fruit, raw veggies, nuts, cheese, and leftovers as necessary.
Do you know what's amazing? I didn't bump anything off of my menu plan this last week...everything went pretty much according to schedule, which hardly ever happens.
Here's the plan for this week:
Saturday
- Pizza. I'm still debating which type to make.
Sunday
- French Toast
- local sausage
- OJ or maybe Orange Julius if I am feeling inspired
Monday
- Shrimp and Ravioli in Pink Sauce
- Whole Wheat Rolls
- green salad
Tuesday
- Beef Enchiladas
- fruit salad
- chips and salsa
Wednesday
- Tilapia Fillets
- garlic bread
- roasted veggies
Thursday
- We're having a weird weekend schedule, so we're having our takeout date night a day early
Friday
- Spaghetti
- green salad

Hmmm, Nancy's is the best sour cream? I'll have to go find that. I'm a sour cream addict myself and my current favorite is Horizon's Organic. Full fat, the low fat is too thin and lacking that tang and richness of flavor. I can never go back to store-brand, low fat (or heaven forbid fat free!) sour cream ever again. 😉
Have you ever made sour cream? Rhonda, at down to home, makes it and I wanted to try it.
I somehow knew before I clicked on the picture that it was going to be Nancy's sour cream! Absolutely amazing stuff - it's as rich and delicious as quality ice cream.
Yum... the Ravioli with Shrimp Sauce Recipe looks divine!
*smack*smack* (smacking my lips...) 😉
I'm so happy that my local grocery store now carries Nancy's sour cream in their health food dept.. I really like it. I also love Nancy's yogurt (which I buy if I don't have time to make my own). I really like your menu choices this week. I am woefully uninspired this week when it comes to menu planning.
Wow! You did so we. I'm now (thanks to you) going through the fridge and earmarking; breakfast and lunch items. I've previously only been thinking about dinners (and lot of desserts).
If you're looking for pizza inspiration, the kind I made last night wasn't too shabby, if I do say so myself!!! 😉

Which on a related note - do you ever freeze your home-made pizza dough? I'd love to make home-made dough more often but sometimes there's just not time.
Sorry - I know question was directed as Kristen by was above my comment as I typed... I freeze my pizza dough after rising. It's a great way of having it to hand. It thaws out pretty quickly and in my experience seems to work exactly the same as fresh dough... Jo
I knew it had to be possible! Do you just form it into a ball and then freeze it? And do you thaw out on the counter or in the refrigerator?
I just form it into a ball and freeze it and then if I'm going to be home I'll thaw on the counter and if not I'll thaw it in the fridge.
Hi Megan - I do exactly the same as Jane. Works perfectly everytime. I haven't timed it exactly but it thaws pretty quick if need be on the counter... Jo
Thanks for the tips!!! 🙂
If you do have to do another run to the store - don't do what I did early this morning and go in without having had breakfast, without a list and proceed to browse. Don't ask what I had for lunch today! So shameful I even photographed it, perhaps will reduce risk of doing again? Have a lovely week...
Pancakes are so inexpensive - and I make them sourdough, with healthier-than-wheat kamut berries - so I'm happy my DS wolfs them down on Saturday mornings.
Good luck using all the cilantro and having a no-waste week!
Adorable photos. Have a great week.
I have a question ... are there any farmer's markets in your area and do you ever buy produce from them? I don't see that mentioned much, so ... I was just curious. Love your blog. Thanks! 🙂
I love catching up on your site from time to time Kristin.
One thing that always strikes me is that I think Sonia looks like a mini-Betty Draper (January Jones) from the TV show Mad Men!
