Thankful Thursday | I passed my EKG exam!
This week, I am thankful:
that I finally got the results of my EKG exam
Yesterday at work, I finally got an email letting me know I passed the EKG exam that was part of the new grad program. Yay! So, I don't have to do any remediation work.

that I am learning so much
I have three shifts under my belt as a nurse on my unit now, and whew, my practical skills have improved so much already. I have given so many injections, hung IV meds, done tube feeds, and so on.
I did some of these tasks in clinical shifts, but not at this rate. So my skills are improving so much more quickly now!

that I still love this work even after a very long day
Yesterday was a wild day at work, and by the time I clocked out, I had been there for almost 14 hours. I was tired, yes, but it was still a good day.
And I think this is how you know you are in the right field of work: even after 14 hours, you still feel cheerful about the day. 😉
for the beauty outside the hospital walls
I love my little hospital world, for sure. But I also love the outside-the-hospital world.
Especially the woods.
And sunsets....
and various fungi.
(All pictures are from my non-hospital life since last Thursday.)
that I have a locker at work now
This means I don't have to lug all my stuff back and forth for every shift.
Something funny: I was struggling to get my lock back into the locker door, and I said to my fellow new grad, "I WAS HOMESCHOOLED, OK???" Hehe.
I've never had a locker before in my life!
for a few days off to get the rest of my life in order
My three shifts for this week are done now (I worked Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), which means I have some time to catch up on other life stuff before I go back on Sunday.
Having multiple days off in a row is a verrrry nice payoff for working long shifts.
for our sweet cats
Gotta include them before I hit "publish" on this post. 😉

Thankful for:
1. A husband who can clean our chimney
2. No fires in our county at the moment
3. A visit to a library in the town where my art show was —so huge, so exciting! (the library, not my show)
4. Sales at the show
5. Two pencil drawing and two oil painting commissions
@Central Calif. Artist Jana, a show and commissions is such a lovely accomplishment though! Gold stars!
Yay for your art-related successes!!
@Central Calif. Artist Jana,
Woo hoo on the art show and sales!
I'm so glad you are loving your job!
- I'm thankful that I am off work on Fridays. Going part time at work was difficult since my frugal-minded self was worried about giving up 25% of my income. But so far, I love my new schedule, and we are making it just fine on the reduced income.
- I'm thankful that both sets of grandparents will be attending Grandparents Day at our grandson's daycare tomorrow. I love that we are all involved in his life on a regular basis.
- I'm thankful that DH got an appointment at Vanderbilt Post-Acute Covid program. He has been tested for everything under the sun but still no diagnosis. Doctors are now leaning towards long-covid diagnosis.
- I'm thankful that my best friend and I will enjoy happy hour together tonight at home. I enjoy our time together to relax and catch up on life.
- I'm thankful that our donation drive at work for a local homeless shelter was successful. I will be dropping off donations this afternoon.
@Beverly,
Just curious - giving up one day of work/week cut 25% of your income? Asking because I'm contemplating cutting back on my 40 hr/week schedule. I'm glad its working well for you.
@Beverly, sadly, alot of people have "long covid" problems. A friend who is an EMT suffers from damage to a nerve that controls her stomach somehow. She's trying to get a grant to have the nerve blocked. Some stuff is just bizarre with no other diagnosis for people. Hope he gets some relief.
For my two week post op total right knee replacement appointment yesterday. While I wasn’t bending/flexing on my own as I should have been the PA said it was due to the fluid around my knee. He explained exactly how I should be elevating and icing. When I got home I did that about four different times last night and I already feel better. He was happy with the fact that he could straighten my knee all the way out, so it’s just a quad firing issue. It’s a goal to work on. The nurses and techs I had were amazing in the hospital right after surgery, so thankful for a great medical team.
Yay for a solution! The way they do joint replacements now is pretty amazing. Occasionally I have worked shifts on our joint replacement unit and I can hardly believe how fast people get up and move after surgery.
@Kristen,
Yes! My knee replacement was done as an outpatient surgery. I was up (a little bit) that day and the next!
@Kristen, better half will resist knee replacements as long as he can. The fact you can't do full squats is a non- starter for him. The hope is a European "disk insert" for lack of a better term is approved in the US. I am not holding my breath - orthopedic docs are making too much money in today's world. He had a fill in orthopedic doctor one time who a) refused to drain his cyst (which is what the appointment was for) and b) kept telling husband the injections he's been getting barely last. Better half makes it 6 months between injections. This fill in doctor makes a living doing knee replacements.
He's not stupid thinking he can do everything he used to be able to do and knows what things to avoid if at all possible (ladder work is big one).
He keeps his weight down and gets adequate exercise without overdoing it.
I'm glad it helps some people but it isn't for everyone.
That's funny about the locker lock. That's such a muscle memory, I bet I could still slide the lock in at just the right angle and click it shut with one hand. I was not homeschooled. 🙂
Very thankful this week that my husband avoided injury after the angle grinder kicked back out of his hand, flew past his leg and cut its own cord, resulting in a live wire and sparks while he was working on our bathroom. Yikes.
It's been three days and I am getting vaguely better at this. But it's still taking me two hands. Ha.
I'm glad your husband is ok!
@kristin @ going country,
Wow your husband was lucky! I'm sure it was scary, and now you need a new angle grinder.
@kristin @ going country,
Wow, that was close! My husband had that happen a couple of times, but mostly he cut the cords on his tools by using a right-handed tool with his left hand. Thank heavens your husband didn't get hurt!
@kristin @ going country, I too am thankful that your husband escaped injury with the angle grinder mishap. I had one friend (now deceased, but from other causes) who severed half a finger with a table saw, and another who recently almost did the same.
@kristin @ going country,
I jumped right out of my chair like the angle grinder was by me reading that. I'm glad your husband is ok.
@JD, I never considered that, but my husband is ambidextrous, so it's very possible he was using his left hand. I'll have to mention that to him as something to look out for.
@kristin@going country, I am halfway left-handed, in that I write right-handed and otherwise use my hands equally. Today I discovered our vintage hand-cranked drill does not work when cranked with the left hand. I was having a perplexing moment there trying to drill some holes for screws to mend a pantry shelf.
@kristin@going country, tools are designed for those who are right handed. Better half managed to avoid any mishaps over the 50+ years he's been using tools.
Thankful for
1. My husband's numerous fix-it skills. He saved us over $600 by installing car parts himself.
2. My children. Though both are grown and flown, they still check in on a regular basis.
3. My fur babies. They are a constant source of entertainment and joy.
4. My work and coworkers. It is such a blessing to like what you do and who you work with!
5. The beautiful weather our area is experiencing.
I loooove my coworkers too and I feel grateful for that every time I work!
Beautiful pics of your walks in the woods — thanks for sharing! This week, I am thankful for:
-time with my sister. She visited this past weekend for my birthday and we had some fun sister antics. Very thankful she’s just a 1-hr flight away.
-my husband. He noticed that I had been in the market for a small, wood, folding table to bring camping or for picnics, and took it upon himself to construct one for me using reclaimed wood and other found items. It’s the best birthday gift I’ve ever received.
-that our neatly 8-month old puppy is getting neutered today. He’s been displaying some (ahem) different behaviors recently and hopefully, this will help those!
I always wondered if 12 hour shifts with multiple days off are enjoyable! But I do really like my work from home set up, so I don't think I'll be changing it. However, the ability to get overtime shifts/pay is a boon. I saw a nurse on TikTok who works an extra 20 hours a week overtime to pay her loans off early....
Anyways, my gratitudes:
1. I'm grateful for all my husband's help around the house. I notice everything he does especially when he's not here, haha!
2. I'm grateful for what continues to be a healthy pregnancy, and looking forward to the next big scan in a few weeks.
3. I'm grateful for my parents' for hosting me the past few days, and how their dog gets my dog's energy out lol.
4. Really grateful for my local library, they have a really great hold turnaround for popular titles.
5. Happy for a string of lovely weather days here lately!
I definitely prefer this over a five day a week schedule; this way I can just be in WORK mode when I am working. And then when I'm off, I have vast expanses of time. I use those better than I use the time after a regular workday.
Glad to hear your shifts are going well- that you're enjoying them and learning a lot! I definitely can tell which type of work I like and don't like based on how fast the time flies or how energized I feel at the end of the shift, lol.
My biggest thankful today is that my tuition waiver application (/scholarship?) was approved again for the fall semester - a very frugal win. I have to reapply each semester. Fingers crossed that the trend continues. Grad classes are pricey.
Also thankful that the start of the school year is going well for all the students in our family (college x 2, high school, and myself).
Thankful for the recent lovely low humidity. So nice!
Thankful for jobs, health, education, and a place to live. Not to be taken for granted in the slightest.
Super thankful for my husband's gracious help with my frequent computer/tech issues!
Yay for your scholarship!!!
@PD, Hi, and glad the school year has started so well for all and with good news for you!
So much to be thankful for this week!
• School is back in session! It feels so good to be back to our school year routine.
• I played my first ever round of golf! My husband is a golfer so it was very fun for me to join him (he’s been asking for a while). I wasn’t terrible!
• The temps are cooler now and will stay that way! I can open our windows and enjoy the fresh air without worrying about “air conditioning the outside” or humidity.
• My parents celebrated their 47th anniversary this week.
• The new leash we got for the puppy is helping him become a wonderful walker.
• The puppy has been able to join me at two of my son’s games – he’s really great at sitting on the sidelines and accepting pets.
• My friend and I were able to meet up for our annual first day of school bunch!
• The books I have picked up from my TBR pile have been fun to read.
Update on my coworker’s cousin involved in last week’s school shooting – cousin is still in the hospital but is up and chatting with family. Cousin is on the road to recovery!
@Geneva,
Thank you for the update on the cousin. That's some really good news.
@Geneva, I'm glad to hear that the cousin is on the mend, at least physically. The trauma of the incident may take longer, but it sounds as if the cousin has good support.
After an accidental death there are always so many things left hanging — big ones and small ones — and we had news this week that two of the bigger ones (from four years ago, notably) are taking big strides. I know there is still time to go but that’s such a relief.
Also I’m glad that I have the option of serving brownie sundaes to the football team instead of doing a full-blown meal. That is cool.
Life is so much better when you love your job! Congrats on finding a job you live to do. I'm curious, did you always want to be a nurse? I love that you have days off to catch up on the rest of your life. I know 12 hour days are long, but those days offWefnesfay is a pretty free day, will be fabulous.
I'm thankful I have to e to do things. Both hubby and I are retired. I have exercise classes and other things scheduled throughout my week. Wednesday is a pretty free day, so I try to find things we can do together on those days. Yesterday we went to yep libraries to see art exhibits and then went out to lunch. We were only gone a few hours and it was fun. Lunch was so good and filling that we just grazed from the fridge later and skipped dinner.
I'm thankful we can afford the paper everyday. It got really expensive a few years ago, but I can't NOT read the newspaper. Knowledge is power and I learn something everyday from the paper that I would not see any place else. It's especially good to see local stories and info.
I'm thankful I finally figured out how to hook up my magnifying lamp so I can continue to cross stitch into the evening. We rearrange the living room a while back and I just hadn't gotten around to plugging it in. When I wrestled with the couch the other night and got it done.
Have a great week!
Oh my gosh Kristin, I love that you are new to padlocks. As a public school student, it never occurred to me that you wouldn't have experience with them. When you start having dreams that you're panicking because you can't get it open and you're going to be very late for your shift, you'll know you've hit the big time lol. I'm so glad that you love your new work life <3
@Price Chopper shopper, I cannot believe that I still have panic “locker dreams”! I graduated high school 50yrs ago and still have dreams where I can’t find my locker, can’t open my locker or even that I’ve missed weeks of a college class! I feel like more pressing anxieties should have superseded by now!
@Sue, lol. My other panic dream is being late for or missing exams, and I've been out of school for about the same time as you. It's a wonder to me why these particular anxieties stay with us for so long.
I've had a bit of a rough week (mentally and physically, which always seems like a double-whammy at times). But I'm grateful for:
1. That our bodies are miraculous. I dislocated my shoulder on Saturday (and popped it back in myself) and also slammed my knee into the ground. No hospital needed. Just ice. Meds. And time. SO grateful.
2. I got to see my in-laws from Jackson Hole twice this month. Sometimes we only see them twice a year!
3. That my husband, also a nurse, was able to assist and identify issues after my wreck. He was attentive and seriously helpful. I saw a side of him that he doesn't let many see... and knowing he was worried about me <3
4. I prepped breakfast sandwiches a week ago, and I'm so glad I did. Because I DEF need them this week.
5. For my kiddo's grandparents. Two sets bought him "spirit wear" that we weren't going to budget for. Which means he can have a couple additional dress-down days at his school in the upcoming year. A nice break for this mama from laundering uniforms 24/7.
I’m glad you are ok and also that you have a live-in nurse!
I spotted the cat!
I'm thankful:
1. For my daughter and her BFF having a safe trip to Iceland for their 40th birthdays (one in May, one this month), just the two of them, and for the fun they are having while they are there. They have literally been best friends since they were babies, and adulthood has had them living far apart too much (BFF is an Army spouse), but they make time to be together whenever they can. I am happy for them.
2. For a good visit at the vet's for Dog #2, who is a total sweetheart with people but quite aggressive to every other dog except my Dog #1. For vet personnel who gave me the all-clear to bring him in and checked for the all-clear for us to leave. And he was healthy, plus no issues with the missing leg. He had a very rough life before I got him, so the aggression is understandable, but I'm still hoping to get him over it.
3. For 66 deg. F this morning. This early in September, that is amazing. September is normally quite hot here.
4. For no hurricanes (so far) in our battered county this year.
5. For managing to control myself at the plant nursery when I realized that tickle on my neck was an enormous spider that obviously came off the bag of soil I was carrying, since I had just come from church. I am proud to say I didn't drop the bag and holler, but I was close.
@JD, back when my mother was living in Coral Gables and caring for her own mother, I undertook on a visit to repot some houseplants for her. She kept the bag of plant soil out in her garage. I opened the bag, reached in--and then went "WHOAAAA!" and scattered soil all over the garage when I came up with a frog in my hand. So you did better than I did!
@JD, My old pittie mix was aggressive to other animals & really wasn’t all that fond of anyone but us. Our vet saw him as the last appt of the day & we waited in the car until he was ready for him. He mellowed as he aged & I ADORED him, but he was a real liability as a young dog. I miss him everyday
Chiquita has the cutest little nose! Ans I see Shelly lurking....
I'm thankful for
* cooler weather.
*a husband who thinks tiling the bathroom wall is fun.
*the flea situation for my cats seems to be easing. How indoor cats got fleas , I do not know, but my third line of offense has worked. ( first-flea drops- they hated those and hid; second- baths and combing- also hated.) The flea collar is smelly but worth it.
I won $8 in the powerball drawing. Almost as good as the $1.5 billion jackpot. Well, I did get some entertainment and after ticket costs, made $2.
I’ve really been progressing with my work on my agoraphobia. Last week, I had my first trip volunteering to deliver bins of food for kids in need. They just had me assigned to one school, but if they are short on drivers I said I could do a second school as well. I also managed to go to a free workshop on gardening. It feels great to just get out there and interact with new people.
My husband’s replacement copy of his citizenship paper finally came.
The dog we got last year loves other dogs. After our last dog, who was animal aggression, it’s so much less stressful. It’s fun for us and our current dog to be able to visit so many more places together.
My kids are continuing to build on their school relationships from last year. Last year was a bit of a transition year with friends, especially for my high school-er, so it makes my mom heart happy to see their friendships grow.
@JenRR,
Yeah for replacement paperwork!
@JenRR,
I didn't win on Powerball, but I love to buy a ticket when it gets that crazy high. It's fun to dream. I know some people frown on lottery tickets but I think they're just fun. And I always say when we lose, well, we're helping send a kid to college. My sister always says it's cheaper than going to Vegas. I hate that they say what the odds are for winning the jackpot. There's lots of other prizes you could win. Lots of people win a million dollars -- and I could live on that!
@Regina, It’s a relief to have everything on hand again!
@Joyce from Arkansas, It is fun to play once in a while. We can afford a couple dollars less than once a year, so it’s good entertainment for us.
This week I am thankful for the people I have met since we've moved to WV. I have met some very nice scrapbooking/crafting ladies and gym folks that I enjoy being around. I have learned and grown from all of them. And I guess they like me too because they don't mind me coming back for more! LOL
So glad you are enjoying your job Kristen. It makes such a difference. Me, not so much. It's a chore some days to sit here and work without anyone to say hi to. Jabber/ Teams just isn't as friendly. However, I would hate to have to go back to an office after spending over 20 years telecommuting. Just the commute alone would drive me batty! And vacations are coming this fall, then the holidays and then retirement down the pike. So I know I can sit thru it.
Congratulations on passing your EKG exam! I was sure you would. That's funny about the locker!
This week I am thankful for:
1. Beautiful weather and a beach nearby. I love jumping off the swimming platforms after work!
2. The kind people who gave me a bag of plums they'd picked from a tree when I walked past. I made a delicious crumble with them.
3. Funny, helpful colleagues.
4. Instant access to every episode of The Americans which I am totally hooked on (and has meant a lot of procrastination with evening chores lol). It's so great being able to watch all of it on streaming (although I might get the DVDs later in case I want to rewatch, as sometimes things get removed).
5. A book I asked for as a birthday present has finally arrived and I'm looking forward to trying some of the recipes in it (it's a recipe book, obviously!).
Congratulations!!!! That EKG test is no joke! I am thankful to be done with my CMA class and externship. I am also thankful to be able to take my final test for national certification as a CMA. I’m happy to be on the hunt for a new position in the medical field. Moving from teaching has fun and interesting!I am also thankful that there is so much beauty in the natural world!
I have dreams sometimes of opening my high school locker. If I don't think about it, I can open it, but if I worry about it, then it doesn't open! This summer my two oldest sons worked in a cheese factory, and they had lockers. I had anticipated this problem and picked up a lock years and years ago at a yard sale (?) very cheaply, so all I had to do was teach them how to open it 🙂
This week I am thankful:
*the soccer injuries this week were minor.
*that we are getting back into the school routine.
*for the little rain shower we just had.
*for my brother-in-law, the one who told my then-boyfriend to get rid of me when he met me. (Context: he was only 10 at the time, and girls were ick.) He calls me to talk to me now, and I love him so much!
*that my sons seem to be doing well at college. I'm glad they are rooming together. I'm glad they go to a small school and can sit and talk to professors over meals. I'm glad their college streams chapel services so I can watch when the oldest sings. All of these soothe my momma's heart that misses them so much while they are so far away.
This week, I'm thankful that I'm making two new friends: the significant other and another friend of a neighbor who died last month. The three of us went out to lunch at our local, friendly, and reasonably priced Thai restaurant on Tuesday, and the SO has already offered to take care of Betty while I'm in Baltimore in October for the JASNA Annual General Meeting. This way, I won't have to ask NDN1 (with her increasingly shaky cognition) to do it, or to ask the Bestest Neighbors to make sure she's doing it.
Thankful for...
a peaceful dinner with our son last night just the 3 of us.
pleasant, cool mornings and evenings over the last several days.
finally recovering from a two week long cold.
the ease of crockpot meals and a family that genuinely appreciates home cooking.
the coming change of seasons, change of time, candlelight, sweatshirts and jeans, and pumpkin everything.
I laughed at your homeschool comment in regards to the locker lock. 🙂 Your current schedule is actually pretty darn good for a kind of newbie. Day on day off 2 days in a row & 3 days off is as close to perfect as you can get.
Thankful that teen vehicle done & back in service after deer damage. We've managed to figure out few issues & fix ourselves. Only one thing have not figured out for sure, but vehicle seems good.
Thankful teen college schedule is going ok. One more class that starts next week, but otherwise teen seems to have good schedule this semester. And is navigating things pretty well. 🙂
Thankful for rescue dogs---ALWAYS!
Thankful my acquaintance/friend is home after an unexpected & surprising medical emergency that was a lot in a very short time. My friend has had headaches lately (& has had chiropractic treatment in past) that just don't go away. Friend ended up going to ER & was admitted. Friend found out has malignant brain tumor & a mass with a small bleed. So much information in only few days. Luckily friend is currently home resting.
Thankful for my family (in Florida) who has been more helpful than I could have ever imagined. I don't know where we would be without them. We are so grateful & loved.
Thankful for antibiotics. I normally take some most days (no immune system) but more during certain times (currently). I have been feeling physically down & found out I have walking phenomena. But avoided Sinus infection. 😉 Luckily I've been able to rest & give my body a chance to heal & recover.
Thankful for our house. For a stocked pantry & freezer. If you go hungry at my house it's by your own choice. 😉
Thankful for Kristen & her blog where we can all learn & share with each other.
Have a great day everyone. <3
Glad you are adapting to work. And your locker. I have a combination lock on the garage, yeah, not the best, but it is a deterrent. I haven't locked it for some time. (It is pretty far off of the street.) I sat here trying to remember it. At one time the combination was written on the north side, so some workers could get in and out. I use a keyed lock at work.
Thankful for a safe trip a hundred miles away and then back last night. Country roads. I saw only one raccoon and not too far from home, a massive buck deer to the side was grazing.
Thankful for pleasant time with family at the destination and an entertaining rodeo. This has been a popular event in the area for my generation of people and I was amazed to notice how we are all aging. The rodeo seems to be for our generation, the musical entertainment is to pull the younger generation in. I have never even heard of the entertainers that are slated this week.
Thankful for the cooler weather. No a/c, windows open. Not so thankful for the ragweed. I just learned (as an eco-friendly gardener) that the oily seeds are good for the birds. Sorry, when I see it in my yard, it doesn't stay. I've been known to pull the neighbor's, too. (To the south. The neighbor to the north uses round-up and scalps his lawn, oh for shame.)
I've had my combination lock for years, but worry that I may have a "moment" and forget the code to get into it. So when I go to the gym (where I use my lock), I write the combination numbers on my lower inner ankle below the sock line in ink, just in case I forget it.
Thankful for senior cat (16), but I do not think she is going to make it through to the end of the year. It is very challenging being her caregiver, as she is 98% blind and 99% deaf, and oh my, I have to constantly rescue her from being stuck, an example, she'll get stuck under the dining room chair, with one leg over the lower bar, and she'll just stand there until rescued. Also toileting issues, sigh, I moved a cat litter into the dining room, and if she uses it I'm totally ecstatic! It's been 4 days! so to mention that sometimes she just goes on the floor, I'm thankful that I kept all the "pee rags" from the previous cat. On a happy note, kitty loves to be outside, I have a fenced in backyard and am either outside with her, or inside but I can hear her if needs be.
Thankful for tea, I buy from a Canadian company, and have quite a large assortment of teas, caffeine and herbal. My favourite caffeine tea is Organic Cream of Earl Grey, and for herbal, I am partial to Wild Grown Rooibos tea (from the Rooibos bush grown in South Africa, again, partial to that as I am S.A. born).
For a good visit to my GP. Due to my digestive issues that I am having, he wants me to have a colonoscopy. You would never in a million years hear someone so excited and happy to be having this procedure done, but here I am! Though not exactly looking forward to the prep, and very nervous if they find anything. My family has illiitis and colitis on one side, and the other side has Chrohn's.
My doctor was happy to hear that I've mostly given up sugar, mostly in support of HB having to give up sugar due to his borderline blood sugar levels. HB has lost 15lbs and his blood sugar is normal, but he has to be tested every 3 months. I have lost about 8-10lbs which I'm not mad about: the main benefit to this is that I can get into some clothes (pants and jeans) that I have not been able to get into for quite a while.
Thankful to be partially coming out of my cooking slump, I've started looking at recipes that I want to make. My favourite cooking time is Fall and Winter, I love soups and casseroles, & curries. And in the summer I try to minimize using the stove or oven due to the heat, so cooking is on the BBQ outside.
I am terrible at remembering numbers. So I have my combination written down in a safe spot!
@Kristen, I can't remember exactly how your synesthesia works, but if you associate individual numbers with something else, sometimes you can mark that directly onto your lock safely b/c no it makes no sense to anyone else (I know someone whose synesthesia associated numbers with particular colors, and they painted small dots on the lock to remind them... wish I had that!)
Oh, that is an interesting idea! My synesthesia is all spatial and black and white, but some of my kids have colors associated with theirs.
YAY for passing the EKG exam! We are just starting that module in my A&P class, and I'm a little nervous.
I love the picture of Shelley peeking around the doorway. Those two pictures perfectly encapsulate the personality differences between your cats!
I'm thankful:
That the rain this morning was pretty light, so I could bike to class.
That the rain stopped during class so the ride home was just gorgeous--cool and breezy with just enough sun.
For the ability to ride! I see so much more when I commute via bike.
For my school thoughtfully providing lockers and showers for students, so I can clean up and be presentable in class 😉
For the rain---we needed it, after about a month of drought.
2 new baby goats for our Farm!
15 pumpkins harvested from my tiny patch.
My son loves his new job.
First week of school has been successful (aka we all survived;).
Fun events for my daughter's 10 birthday
@Jennifer, Baby goats are SO cute!
Love the Locker/Home School problem. Never thought about high school lockers as a teaching experience.
Oh, I forgot that it was Thursday until I read this post. Hmm. I am very thankful for a nice visit with my sister and BIL today, for the hike I took after that, for the wonderful cooler temps, for getting to see my daughter earlier this week, and for my friend who treated me to lunch a few days ago.
was there ever any doubt you would pass ekg test? my son started a new school today. he misses his old school a lot. i hope he will be happier as he gets used to it. he sat with a few people at lunch. so that is a start. he is a very friendly guy.
my daughter is a senior this year. she is freaking out over her impending adulthood. i don't know how to help her but i will try to figure it out. where did the time go?
Glad you are doing well. Gotta see the outside world too! Great photos. I agree, must have cat photos...
Kristen, I look forward to your pictures every post. Especially the nature shots. Live in the desert in a retirement park that has a small dog park with grass. Everything else, 357 lots of gravel and cacti. I miss woods, flowers, ferns & moss so much! Thank you for sharing your photos. It soothes my soul. Well, that and Chaquita. My calico, Pumpkin, passed 2 years ago. Chaquita soothes that ache. The photos are just 1 of things I treasure about this blog. The commentariat is a huge blessing. Grateful for all of you.
Yes, I do love the green here! And I'm so glad Chiquita pictures brighten your days. 🙂
Most of your fellow new grads would not have used a locker either in school. Lockers in public schools seem to have stopped being used overall once giant physical textbooks in high school became uncommon. But I remember and am chuckling with you!
Oh, that's interesting! My one fellow new grad is in her early 20s and is good at it, but maybe that was in middle school for her. Or high school gym?
@Kristen, oh that's right, maybe in gym class, or our athletes for school sports do use specific lockers for all their gear...
* Hubby is at risk of losing his job due to cuts. So I'm very grateful to have a good job (a.k.a that pays well for what I do) where I can pickup . I am not the main "breadwinner" but we would manage with very careful planning and frugal ways. Also grateful for past us for doubling down on payments and getting rid of our mortgage 5 years ago, and having a paid off car. And having savings. So it is a stressful time but we would manage financially.
* To be a resilient person. My husband is not. So if we were both non-resilient everything would go sideways right now. Ee still have a house to run and kids to take care of, so... For now I'm being the "strong" one and trying to stay positive.
* Books. Reading.
* Being good with money, being naturally frugal and not materialistic. And hubby being the same.
* My kids
Oh, I am sorry to hear this. I hope he gets to keep it!
@Kristen, thanks!
I am thankful for many things, but reading this post, I will say that I am thankful for kind nurses! I had a procedure done at the hospital yesterday, and the one nurse in particular that I had, clearly enjoys her job! I was blessed to have her care for me. She even offered my husband a sandwich. (We probably will pay for it, but it was kind of her to think of him)
It's good to hear you say how you are enjoying your job. I'm sure your patients are blessed to have you!
Oh, I am happy you had a great nurse. 🙂 That makes all the difference in the world!
A little number hack, if it will work. Formulate the number into a phone number. You might need to add an area code or a prefix. Then put the number into your contacts. That gives you easy access and no one should be the wiser, if you’re sneaky about how you label the “phone” number.
Almost couldn't find Shelley! She's very stealth.
