I have to run to 2nd semester orientation...
But first....I got my grade back from my exam yesterday, and I only got one wrong!
So, now, funny enough, I have exam grades of 60, 59, 58, 57, and 56 in that class, just not in that order. 😉
120 is my semester-long class; the bread and butter of this semester. And then in my two half-semester classes, I finished with a 96 in each.
I know it doesn't matter in the long run, because C's get degrees, but I am personally pleased to have maintained my 4.0 for at least one semester of nursing school. Especially because this semester had some extra challenges.
I hear that future semesters are harder, so don't worry; I am not gonna be disappointed in myself if I start getting some B's. I always figure that I will just go in and do my best, and whatever happens, happens.
By the way, the other day, we were having a discussion here in the comments about whether it's important to aim super high in class.
And then in a class meeting that evening, the professor in charge of the first semester told us that students who barely squeak by in the first semester start to really struggle in subsequent semesters.
So, that made me feel like the hard work I'm putting in is worth it. I'm well-prepared to tackle the bigger challenges that are coming my way the next three semesters.
See ya tomorrow for Thankful Thursday. 🙂

Well done!!! Yay!!!
Congrats!! I'm super impressed!!
As a professor (at a law school) I find students who put in the hard work no matter what's going on with their life outside of school, do well in school.
GO KRISTEN! We never doubted you for a second.
My problem when I got to college was that I'd never studied in my life and didn't know how. Steep learning curve.
@Rose, me neither. That first semester of people expecting actual work from me was ... yeah, something.
Yay for you Kristen! I hope this week starts to feel lighter for you... Thanks for your inspiration <3
To give you a cheer from Jane Austen's era: Three hearty huzzahs! Huzzah! Huzzah!! HUZZAH!!!
Congratulations!!!
Applause!!! And not just on the grades, but on your attitude: "Do my best and whatever happens, happens" deserves an A+++
Congratulations, and I'm sure that put an extra sparkle in your day!
Happy Christmas break! Enjoy your break from the pressure.
And congratulations on the test score.
Great job Kristen!!! 🙂
I hope you will be able to have a great Christmas break with your girls, you all deserve it.
Way to go! Personally, I'd rather put my life into the hands of someone who learned very well, than someone who skated by.
I hope you do something terrific to celebrate.
Congratulations! Well done and well deserved.
Kristen, giving it your best effort will never let you down! Congratulations on a phenomenal semester! Enjoy your break and rest up!
Yay! Well done, you!
Woo hoo Kristen! Especially with all else going on - this must really make you feel good, with hard work paying off, and a shifting focusing to a valuable, fulfilling future. Huzzah-ing with A.Marie!
Hurrah! Well done, Kristen, especially given the other challenges you've had this semester, as you said. Praying that the other challenges lessen, so to make the future semesters easier. 🙂
Good job, and now maybe you can relax a bit!
I tend to feel getting good grades can not just show a good work/study ethic but also reveal one's interest for the subject one is learning. I want my nurse, lawyer, realtor or A/C tech to be interested in what they are learning and doing. I think they will make the effort to learn more, do their job better, and always be at the top of their game.
I don't think we have to worry about Kristen slacking as a nurse, ha.
@JD, I don't think we have to worry about Kristen slacking at anything.
CONGRATULATIONS! My department offers a minor in Spanish for health professions (I promise this is going somewhere...), so we see a LOT of nursing students come through our program. Please don't diminish the accomplishment it is to have achieved a 4.0 in a nursing program during a time of tremendous upheaval in your life. Nursing programs are incredibly rigorous (because they have to be!), and your hard work this semester (and in the preparatory semesters) will pay off in spades. I'm so proud of you, Kristen!
Yay!
Congratulations Kristen, It is very well deserved.
Most totally excellent, Kristen! When you are learning a "trade", the key is LEARNING. In normal college classes, it seems as if the goal is to complete assignments, pass tests and get grades, without regard for whether or not the information is sticking. It is probably different in nursing school, where the assignments, tests, and grades actually indicate that learning has taken place. Whatever the case, you are a champion!!
We all knew you could do it.
YES!
Congrats!! I hope you find a fun way to celebrate - this is huge. I don't know you, but I am proud of you and all that you've been able to do. Divorce is hard, and you're kicking butt.
Congratulations on a job well done! We all have faith in you! You will make a great nurse! Now to relax and enjoy your break!!! Merry Christmas, early!
Way to go, Kristen!!! Proud of you but not a bit surprised you scored so high. You had a whole lot of your readers pulling for you, and praying for you, too. Your hard work and fantastic attitude inspire us all.
Congrats on doing so well. I like your commitment to doing the best you can.
That is always a good attitude, particularly in someone who will be working as a healthcare professional.
I wouldn't want someone who went thru nursing or med school with a "let me just get by" attitude. They'd hardly be someone I'd trust.
And it isn't about the grades per se, it's about the effort one puts in to studying and committing to learning what is in a course.
It is especially gratifying to see your commitment given what is going on in the background of your life. It would be challenging at any time, but...after being out of school and having to deal with legal and financial stuff? Some might say that focusing on your course work is actually helping you to deal with the rest. Because studying IS under your control when other things may not be.
Congrats on the high marks!!
that is so well done!! Thing is, you're totally correct. Even quite blah grades still get you qualified, but inevitably, there will be stages / classes that maybe you don't do so brilliantly in on account of Whatever, but your generally good, overall fantastic average will stand you in good stead. It will buy you good favour too, should you need it in he future, when you might need it. This is hard to quantify, but the way I explain it to my 17 year old son is this: if you are consistently hard working, on time, don't miss deadlines and are generally switched on, lecturers, tutors and others will be more lenient in granting you extensions, in understanding if you are ill or any one of the many, weird, unforeseen dramas that litter every life! Hopefully, it will never be needed, but your track record will speak for itself as you go on.
Anyway. You've done amazingly well. You should be super-proud.
Congratulations! I’m not at all surprised.
Kristen, congratulations!
You have worked very hard for this, and your hard work is paying off ☺️
Personally I feel it is ALWAYS important to give best effort in school, and shoot for excellence ☺️
Congratulations on the 4.0, Kristen, very impressive work!
The thing about doing two super hard things at one time, though not ever wished, it means that both will be (are being) resolved at around the same time. Some clear skies ahead for the next few weeks and maybe some clarity on the personal level. Hawaii is looking closer!
Yeah! Good job!
Congratulations! I am impressed but not surprised by your excellent grades because I’ve been reading your blog for a long time and have seen your work ethic! Enjoy your down time between semesters!
Great work! Your approach seems perfect. It makes sense to prepare the very best that you can. And you really are building on all the solid learning you've been doing. So excited for you and your future career! You're getting yourself a little bit closer with each of these efforts.
I kept hoping you would pop in and give us an update! Such good news - congratulations !!!!
Fingers crossed that you are on a roll - academically and personally.
Yay for you! I always tell my students that the hard work is an investment in themselves, so it is always worth it!
Fantastic Job, Kristen! Go ahead, pat yourself vigorously on the back. Well done!
Can't say that I'm at all surprised. Enjoy your Christmas break.
My 2 college kiddos come home tomorrow, then the fun begins!
WOOT!! congratulations!! Your hard work shows. Like you've mentioned before, each semester builds on the previous one, so you should be at a great starting point next semester. Enjoy the break!
Congratulations, Superstar! You've set an incredible example for your girls and your classmates.
Congrats!
Congratulations!
I did really well in school--because I had to work so hard to pass every class that it was only just a little harder to do well. And as long as I was at it, I might as well.
So happy for you, Kristen!
Fabulous work - you rocked it!
Thank you!
