I had a busy weekend...

...so I haven't got a Monday post for you. Maybe we'll have a Tuesday Q&A this week. 😉

I do hate to post without a photo, even if it's a post saying I haven't got a post, so here's a photo I took of a full moon the other night.

Apologies for the slightly sinister start to the week. 😉

Have a lovely Monday, though!

  1. Snap, I am also posting my Monday post on Tuesday this week, but for different reasons.

Nice photo, and not too sinister 🙂

  2. I used your painting instructions this weekend for a shelf I bought at an antique shope the previous weekend. I can't wait to get the slow and steady coats of paint on and see the finished project. I am tackling my dinette set when the weather turns warmer. I want to do a few smaller projects to perfect my technique. I find I want a paint sprayer. I don't like brush strokes. Wish me luck!

  3. Just curious if you can share with us what a busy weekend looks like for you. I know what a busy weekend looks like for me - running kids around to activities, assisting kids with school projects, cleaning & laundry since I work M-F and don't have the time during the week to keep up on those things as much as I would like to.

But since you are home during the week, have kids that don't participate in extracurricular activities and/or sports and I'm sure you don't assign projects that need worked on during the weekends, I would love to see what your weekends look like 🙂

    1. Sure! When I have a busy weekend, a lot of it is church-related...like if there's a band rehearsal and then of course there's church every week. Family gatherings also make for a busy weekend for me, especially when combined with the time spent with church stuff. On weekends like those, there's usually just one afternoon/evening out of the weekend that's quiet.

Oh, and unless we have something else going on, Mr. FG and I have our weekly takeout date night on the weekend, but that is, of course, a happy kind of busy! =P

If I have time, I do some laundry and cleaning on Saturdays, but I do not do any household work on Sundays. That's the day we all take off from usual work and activities so that we can go to church and have some family time or have people over.

You ARE right, though...I never assign schoolwork that has to be done on the weekends!

    2. Actually, they DO have extracurricular activities, including piano lessons for all....and are very involved in church activities, including the music program (again, most or all members of the family)...and much more!

The busiest, most well-rounded families I know are the homeschooling ones. 🙂

      1. This is true...we just do piano lessons during the week, and the kids' martial arts class is during the week as well.

If we had to do that stuff on the weekend in addition to church activities, I might go crazy!

      2. Mrs. R - I would have to say that the busiest families I know, most definitely are NOT homeschooling families. If that were the case, I would think they really need to work on their time management skills 🙂

        1. I think you'd just have to take each family on a case-by-case basis. I know of super-busy families from both categories.

And it's not a competition, of course! Homeschooling and not homeschooling each present their own unique challenges, just like staying at home and working outside of the home do, you know?

          1. Nope, not a competition and I don't think anyone was making it one until Mrs. R made her snide remark about the busiest families being homeschooling families. So, I can follow that up by saying that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'd be way less busy if I was home 45 more hours per week and my kids weren't involved in the extracurricular activities and sports that they love. So, we make it work for our family....our kid's happiness and seeing them excel in the activities they are passionate about are so worth the craziness that surrounds us at times.

  4. It is not so sinister, it is remindful of a beautiful moonlite night after a snow and you might be out walking the dog and it is sooo peaceful and all seems right in the world. Or maybe it is when the werewolves come out hahahahah. Thanks for sharing, will look forward to any posts you are able to post. Thank you for sharing bits of your life.

  5. Lovely photo! I do love a full moon and the silvery light it gives... " the lesser light to rule the night... " 🙂

  6. I would like to submit a question for Q&A. I think you mentioned a long time ago two of your children have blogs and you use that as a part of your homeschooling. I would like to know how do you incorporate it into their education. Are their posts like assignments or do they just do what they like? Also, I noticed Lisey seems to have her own website but Joshua is a subsection of yours. I'm asking because my daughter has mentioned that she would like to make a cooking blog as well but I'm not sure how to go about it. I would prefer not to pay for it, are there any free options? Also, what age do you think is appropriate for her to start? She is 11 now but my husband says to wait until 13 at least. He is concerned with bullying like the Jessica Laney situation. Thanks!

    1. Most blogs are free to start! You pay when you want to change the URL, or you want to host it elsewhere. Try Blogspot or WordPress (I prefer WordPress myself...), but there's also LiveJournal. And other sites specific to photos.

Anyone can set up a blog as long as they have an email address. I had my own when I was 10, and my mom monitored it for me (comments, posts, accuracy, views, etc).

Judge how mature your daughter is. She may be ok now to do it if you think she can handle it 🙂

  7. Do you follow football at all? Did you enjoy the Ravens game/win? If you switched off the commercials and halftime show (ICK!), it was a great game!

    1. We actually root for the Chargers here (Mr. FG started following them when he lived in CA), so we weren't terribly interested in the Super Bowl. =P In fact, we turned it off and watched Downton Abbey. Hee.
