Grocery Shopping/Menu Plan | November edition

It's that time of month again! I'm here to share what I bought during a shop-for-two-weeks grocery trip and also a week's worth of recent meals.

I bought:

fg groceries local chicken I spent $169.57, which I'm super pleased about, especially because that included some expensive local chicken. I definitely have enough money for a milk/produce run.

We ate:

-The Pioneer Woman's BBQ meatballs and a green salad sweet and sour meatballs -chicken quesadillas with guacamole, blender salsa, and fruit salad chicken quesadillas -beef and sausage chili with a green salad beef and sausage chili -chicken and shrimp fajitas with grilled onions and red peppers (a Cook's Illustrated recipe) fajitas -Baked Potato Soup (and I can't remember what we had with this! I think a salad and some fruit, maybe?) baked potato soup -Thin Crust Pizza thin crust pizza I made a double recipe because we had two extra kids here that night, so I actually turned out four pizzas. cook's illustrated thin crust pizza These are the sorts of times when a double oven would be super handy! Lastly, (and not pictured!), we had a date night meal. Next time I do a grocery/menu post, it'll be the middle of December. Crazy...

  1. The chicken quesadillas look really good 🙂 I also like seeing what is available in Aldi in different countries because it seems to vary quite a bit (eg. I always buy coconut milk there).

    1. It does! Mine doesn't have coconut milk, in fact.

And I know Aldi stores vary some just in my own country...like the stores in the Chicago area carry some local sausages that we don't have here.

  2. Your photos make me hungry, and I just finished breakfast! One question about grocery shopping--I know you mention getting your yeast from Costco, but why don't you shop for other items there? Maybe you do and just don't post about it. I generally go once a month and get things like butter, cheese, nuts, bacon and milk. I freeze what we don't eat quickly and overall I think I get better quality basics (like cheese) for a better price, which is why I'm surprised you don't mention going more often. But maybe I'm missing something? Have I been taken in by clever marketing?!

    1. Well, for a lot of things, I find that Aldi is cheaper or just as cheap as Costco, and I don't have to buy ginormous quantities (this is especially beneficial for produce, in my opinion.)

I do buy most of my nuts there as well as some toiletries. And gas, when I happen to be driving by.

  3. Love your site and have been using your recipes for some time. I know how much you love roasted carrots and Aldi so I thought I should pass this weekly by info to you. This weekend at Aldi I picked up a silicone mat for rolling out food on the counter. The mat instructions say that it can be used on a baking sheet in the oven. The mat was big enough for me to cut out two liners for my baking pans. Price was very reasonable only $9.99. So now I have two liners for the roasting of veggies and can reuse these over and over.

  4. Our dinner plans suddenly changed and I needed dinner NOW (about 3 hours ago). Made the meatballs. They were a hit. So thank you very much 🙂

  5. I saw the recipe for meatballs & had to make them for dinner last night. I found a crockpot version that worked great & they were delicious! BBQ meatballs will be added to our menu rotation. Thank you!

  6. How do you manage to get all of those groceries for 169 and have enough for your family. It is only my husband I and we have a budget of 300 for our groceries. Can you give me some tips?
