The Pants That Won’t Quit.

I got these several years ago at the clothing exchange which our church has twice a year. Basically, people bring in all the clothes they no longer want, and it’s all given away for free. I almost didn’t pick up this pair of pants, because they had mildew on them. But, I decided to bring them home and do my best to salvage them. I washed them with some bleach, and lo and behold, they came out as good as new. For some reason, the color of the pants didn’t really change, but the mildew was gone! At the time, they (kind of) fit Sonia. She wore them in the winter(rolled up, because they were too long for her). She wore them again the next winter(not rolled up that year!). Then that summer, she wore them as capris(we just rolled up the legs, so they looked like cuffed capris).

Zoe wore them last winter(again, rolled up). This winter, she’s wearing them without the rolls, and I fully expect that she will wear them as capris this coming summer. So, unless the fabric of these completely gives out before then, we will have gotten 6 seasons worth of wear out of a pair of free pants.

This kind of thing makes me ridiculously happy.

By the way, all the rest of Zoe’s clothes are hand-me-downs too…all of which were originally purchased on clearance, right down to the socks. I love me a good clearance sale. 😉

The Frugal Girl :: I love fleece clothes.

Thursday 30th of October 2008

[...] Fleece sweatshirts and pullovers can often be obtained VERY cheaply in January or February when stores are getting rid of every last bit of clothing that can be worn in cold weather.  The black one in the photo was on clearance at Old Navy last year, and I think I paid about $2 for it.  Now that I think about it, all of the fleeces in the picture were purchased on clearance…three from Old Navy, and one from Sears. Have I mentioned that I adore clearances?? [...]

My boys are 5 1/2 years apart, born during different seasons (one July and one December), and totally different body types (husky and slim), so I always had a hard time with hand-me-downs with them. Some things were okay. Now they're 10 and 15 and almost nothing fits the little one that fit the big one. By the way, your little girl is WAY TOO CUTE!! ~Dana

Aww, thanks! I am lucky enough to have three of these girlie people! :) Which makes for a wonderful hand-me-down situation...all of our girl clothes get to be worn by three different people, as long as they don't wear out prematurely.
