You know your house is cold when...
..you come back from breakfast with your mom, wearing your fleece scarf and wool jacket, and don't realize until two hours later that you haven't taken it off. Yeah. This 65 degrees thing is a little hard to adjust to and I honestly don't know how some of my fellow bloggers manage to keep it colder than this. I'm pretty sure that 65 is my lower limit.
Anyways, this post is mostly about grocery spending and my menu and not so much about my cold house!

I spent $10 at a local grocery store.
I spent $54.32 at Weis.
and I spent $24.28 at Aldis(my first time there, which I will post about in the coming week).
That adds up to $88.60. This is kind of a bummer because I was hoping to have a low-spend week this week(I was over by $20 last week). I did manage to get under budget by $12 this week, though, so now I'm only $8 behind. I'm pretty sure I can make that up next week!
Here's what we're eating this Thanksgiving week.
Saturday
- Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp
- Cornmeal bread
Sunday(we're having company, so we're not having pancakes!)
- Baked Potato Soup
- Rolls
- green salad
- Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Monday
- Cilantro Panini
- grapes
Tuesday
- Calzones
- green salad
Wednesday
- Mandarin Chicken Roll-ups
- orange slices
Thursday
- Thanksgiving dinner is at my in-laws, and all I have to bring is a big basket of rolls. Yay! I love being the family baker. 😉
Friday(I'm bringing a meal to a family from church, so we'll have pizza on Saturday instead of Friday)
- Shrimp Veiness
- French bread
- green salad

65 - that sounds cold. That's 18, right?
I find 18 hard to deal with; I have to admit, but it depends on how my day begins. If I'm sensible and have a warm drink and eat porrage (and dress well) and then I'm doing housework I'm ok.
But forget it if I'm sitting still writing or something. But as we heat with wood, i don't feel so bad - if we burn it up, we have to go out and collect more, so it's a constant reminder to ask ourselves if we really need it that warm 🙂
At 20 I can cope with it (68 I think), but 21 is more comfortable and my preference........
Its amazing how cold 65 can be! Considering that when its an outside temp, not many people bundle up. I guess its all relative. We, too, have the same problem with feeling warm in the house. Oh well...we drink more hot stuff and wear more sweaters. No more barefeet I guess...love your blog!
You'll make up those 8 bucks, easily enough!
65 is not too bad! Even though we're in Texas, we've been getting some cold snaps. We're taking part in the Freeze Yer Buns challenge so there's no heating at all. I'm kind of enjoying it, though. When it's 40F, we bundle up in blankets. At night, the cat sleeps under the covers and keeps us all warm. It's awesome!
Dear me...40 inside your house? I KNOW I'm not up for that! lol Maybe you meant 40 outside?
It's been in the 30s here, even in the day, so our heat has been running a fair amount just to keep it at 65 in here.
When my two year old is big enough to understand the concept of sleeping underneath a comforter, I'll lower the temperature more at night. All three of my older kids sleep under a comforter, so I don't worry about them being cold at night.
We have started keeping our house at like 64 and we are constantly freezing! I know it's for a good cause (saving $ & energy) but I had to take a hot shower the other night just to warm up before I got in bed!
My house is usually 64 during the day when we are not home. I turn it up to 68 sometimes to get the chill off. When my nose is cold, the heat is too low. Try to find a small room that can be closed off from rest of the house and use a low wattage electric heater once in a while. It can be cheaper than heating all of the house and warm you up before bedtime.
65 sounds nice. we never go above 61.
Oh man...I don't think I could hang with 61. And I'm SURE that my husband would put his foot down if I tried that. lol
We (me and my ex) tried one winter to keep our house at about 58 when the kids weren't around, but I had to bundle up so much I couldn't stand it. Our house leaked heat like crazy because it was old. We stuck to about 67 on average though or the heating cost was outrageous.
my thermometer says 60 right now, i got home 2 hours ago and yes i still have my coat on! when im being sensible i change into thermals and a fleece gown, if i get ingrossed in the internet i sit for ages and freeze! our house just isnt well insulated. we got used to it very quickly. one night this winter it was 50 in the bedroom. i decided to sleep on the couch where it was warmer!! we have a lot of duvets and fleeces (fleece rocks!) on the bed which makes it so cosy i probably wont take them off until summer! once you get into a routine where you always wear warm clothes indoors and have blankets around on the chairs etc, you get used to living at a lower temperature pretty quickly. i do feel that elderly and immobile people will have a horrible time with it though, somewhat harder for them.
